What Is The 6th Harry Potter Movie

Don't Miss

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Set In 1997/98

6th HARRY POTTER TRAILER

The first of the main Potter movies to not be set at all at Hogwarts, Deathly Hallows: Part I is a slower movie and calls for some patience from the audience who are eagerly anticipating the climax.

It takes place across what would be Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s final year at Hogwarts, moving into the first half of 1998. It does, at times, feel like a stepping stone to get to the next film, but it has so much great stuff in its own right and is a good watch for those who are fans of the films when paired with the finale.

Harry Is Frozen By Dumbledore Before His Death

Again, this is just a minor tweak – but one that doesn’t seem to make much sense. In the Half-Blood Prince book, Harry is frozen under his invisibility cloak by Albus Dumbledore to stop him from interfering in his plan to die via Severus Snape, rather than Draco Malfoy’s hand.

In the movie, this doesn’t happen. Snape instead assures Harry all is well before going on to murder Dumbledore. We understand this made him come across as a lot more villainous but we still think the original version of events was better.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

Its tough to judge a film that is self-admittedly half a story, but since its presented as a separate entry into the Harry Potter series, Deathly Hallows Part 1 must be evaluated as such. Book readers had their issues with the walkabout nature of the first half of the final book, so many were bracing for a somewhat sluggish film adaptation of those initial chapters. And while Deathly Hallows Part 1 is mighty compelling for the first hour or so , it definitely loses steam in its second half. This is due in part to the fact that Harry, Ron, and Hermione are on a directionless hunt, disapparating from one gorgeous locale to the next as they bicker amongst themselves. This character conflict is necessary to set up the emotional payoff of Deathly Hallows Part 2, but the act of watching a film that is almost all setup gets a bit monotonous.

And perhaps Deathly Hallows Part 1s biggest issue is just thatits a lot of setup for the finale without much room for payoff. Its a necessity, and director David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves handle it about as well as they could, but in one film they have to lay the foundation for all the wand business, move Ron and Hermione towards a point where they can express their romantic feelings for one another, introduce Dumbledores secretive backstory, explain the Deathly Hallows, and solidify the raised stakes leading up to the Battle of Hogwartsall without wrapping up a single one of these threads.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone

The first movie captured our hearts and drew us into the magical world. Here we meet Harry Potter, played by Daniel Radcliffe, an 11-year old orphan who learns the truth about his past after receiving an invitation to Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Set in 1990-1991, Harry gets invited to Hogwarts by Dumbledore, meets long-time friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger , and even encounters the franchises main villain Lord Voldemort for the first time. The movie sets up Harrys story perfectly and introduces viewers to the secret Wizarding World.

Ideas To Discuss With Your Children

Trailer for sixth Harry Potter franchise

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth fantasy in the Harry Potter series. It is solid entertainment and contains some genuinely funny and clever humour and stunning special effects. Although it is milder in terms of scary images and violence than other Harry Potter movies, this movie is a little darker and has higher levels of emotion and romance than its predecessors. It also has more mature themes. It reflects the increasing age of Harry and his friends.

The movies main messages are that:

  • Trust in each other is all important, and doubting one another will lead to defeat.
  • To overcome insurmountable odds, you must be able to rely on your friends for friendship, help and support.

Values in this movie that you might wish to reinforce with your children include courage and selflessness.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1

The final book in the Harry Potter series was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and it was split into two movies. The first of the films came out in 2010 and saw Harry, Hermoine, and Ron on the run after the death of Dumbledore.

This entire movie mostly focused on the relationship between the three leads as their friendship fractures, breaks, and is eventually mended to make them stronger than ever as they return to battle Voldemort and the Death Eaters to end the war once and for all.

Completion Of The Series

In December 2005, Rowling stated on her web site, “2006 will be the year when I write the final book in the Harry Potter series.” Updates then followed in her online diary chronicling the progress of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with the release date of 21 July 2007. The book itself was finished on 11 January 2007 in the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, where she scrawled a message on the back of a bust of Hermes. It read: “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 January 2007.”

Rowling herself has stated that the last chapter of the final book was completed “in something like 1990”. In June 2006, Rowling, on an appearance on the British talk show Richard & Judy, announced that the chapter had been modified as one character “got a reprieve” and two others who previously survived the story had in fact been killed. On 28 March 2007, the cover art for the Bloomsbury Adult and Child versions and the Scholastic version were released.

In September 2012, Rowling mentioned in an interview that she might go back to make a “director’s cut” of two of the existing Harry Potter books.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Set In 1926

Set over sixty years before the events of the main Harry Potter series of movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them presented fans of the franchise with a fair amount of hope for its future.

Taking place in New York, with a British Hufflepuff main character, the movie does not reach the heights of most main Potter films, but retained its own magic and got fans excited for what was to come from this prequel franchise. These expectations quickly got dashed, however.

Talk To Your Kids About

Sixth Harry Potter film is hard to watch
  • Families can talk about the best age for kids to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and start getting into the Harry Potter series. Is it OK to read all the books at the same age?

  • What do you think of the way the movie depicts the teens’ romantic relationships? Are they believable? Is the story too hormone-filled for younger viewers?

  • What do we learn about Voldemort’s past in this movie? Does that change the way you feel about him?

  • If you’ve read the book, what parts of the novel were left out? Which were faithfully adapted? How does this movie compare to the earlier ones as an adaptation?

  • How do the characters in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince demonstrate courage, perseverance, and teamwork? Why are these important character strengths?

The Deathly Hallows Part 2

Things go from the sublime to the ridiculous in the The Deathly Hallows Part 2 the sequence in which we see Snapes memories of Lily Potter in the pensive is perfectly done, and delivers one of the biggest emotional payoffs in the franchise. Harrys dream encounter with Dumbledore in Kings Cross station is also very well judged. That being said, the totally bizarre addition of Harry and Voldermorts fight sequence, in which they jostle and tustle around the rooftops of Hogwarts is totally unnecessary and just plain daft. Notably, the deaths of characters like Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks and Colin Creevey in the Battle of Hogwarts are totally brushed over and never given the significance they deserve either. The 19 years later scene on Platform 9 ¾ is hopelessly out of place too. However, the film ties the series together reasonably well and provides great spectacle.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them

Five years after the end of the Harry Potter franchise, the world came roaring back to the big screen. This time, it wasn’t based on books of any kind but was instead a story J.K. Rowling created for the big screen. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them told the story of Newt Scamander, whose books about fantastic beasts Harry studied in school.

The Chamber Of Secrets

The first two films in the Harry Potter series are by far the most divisive theyre loved or hated, with no room for middle ground. While it feels unfair to criticise the acting exploits of young children, theres no denying that the standard is pretty poor throughout Rupert Grint arguably delivers his best performance of the whole series here though, pulling some amazing scared faces during their trip to the Forbidden Forest. Sure, the visual effects are a little rudimentary at times, but theres a sense of wonderment and magic that the franchise seems to lose a little as it progresses. Whatsmore, Kenneth Branagh is superb as the vain and cowardly Professor Lockhart, while Shirley Henderson is perfectly cast as Moaning Myrtle.
