Book Editor Arthur Levine Took A Chance On Rowling With A $105000 Contract

Although she was an unknown author, readers were immediately drawn to J.K. Rowlings boy wizard.

I wasnt neglected. I didnt sleep in a cupboard under the stairs. My family loves me, Arthur Levine tells The Washington Post.

Levine is the Scholastic childrens book editor who famously bought the rights to the Harry Potter series for $105,000 after reading the first book.

That doesnt mean I didnt feel invisible and I didnt feel powerless and I didnt have the fantasy that I would be recognized someday. This is something we all share, says Levine in explaining why he took a chance on Rowling.

I remember loving the humor, thinking she is so funny, Levine continues, and thinking that heres a rare range of talents in a writer: somebody who can engage me emotionally and yet who can make me laugh. And whose plot is really driving me forward.

Harry Potter Robe Pattern

Creating such an imaginative and immersive world, Harry Potter is sure to stand the test of time. I have been a fan of Harry Potter since I first read the books when I was twelve years old. My love of Harry Hotter has passed down to my kids and I love how much it encourages them to read.

Halloween came around and I really thought it would be fun to dress up my kids as characters from Harry Potter. There are so many pieces to the Harry Potter costume and I wanted it to look authentic, but also not break the bank.

I decided to buy them official looking Hogwarts scarves and ties but I did NOT want to spend $20+ dollars on each robe. I even went to the fabric store and almost had the fabric all cut when I realized that it was just too much money to justify a Halloween costumeeven though I wanted to BADLY. Lucky for me I stumbled across an idea to use a t-shirt as a robe.

How To Make A No Sew Harry Potter Robe

    By admin

Ever needed a Harry Potter robe for a Halloween costume or other costume party? Didnt want to spent $30, $50, or over $100 on a Harry Potter character robe? Well, we ran into the same issue back on Halloween.

The family theme for our Halloween costumes this year was Harry Potter. My wifes costume as Professor McGonagall was a little tougher to find, so she needed to create one from home. She decided to take the easier version for this years costume and create a no sew costume using just material and ribbon as a tie. It took her less than 15 minutes to make a cape for less than $15. It turned out amazing!

    Making A Full Scale Pattern

In Step #2, I said we need paper scissors, glue and lots of paper.Take you printer paper and glue them together so that you have a very large sheet. If you are lucky enough to have a large role of butcher paper of craft paper then that is even better. Newspaper works too. You want enough paper glued together that you can lay down on it and most of you will not touch the floor.Take the Print out in Step #4 .Copy the pattern from the Printout onto the large sheet of paper using ACTUAL Dimensions. So if you wrote “55 inches” on the printout, then you DRAW a 55 inches line on the large sheet of paper. After everything is drawn on the Large sheet of paper, Cut it out with paper scissors . Why do I keep saying “paper scissors”? Cutting paper dulls a blade very quickly, because of that I have a pair of scissors dedicated to Fabric and another dedicated to Paper.Picture #3 and #4:If you are new to sewing just make the arm hole a Straight line. Notice my arm hole has a curve at the armpit, that is for a more fitted shape. To make it easier for noobs, just make a straight line. If you want to copy my pattern exactly, Pay Attention to Picture #4. if you do not, the Sleeve will not fit onto the Body.NOT pictured is the Hood Pattern. The hood can be thought of as a rentangular piece of fabric.

To Make The Arm And Leg Pads:

Hogwarts Wizard Robe DIY (FREE pattern)

Measure your childs forearm from below the elbow to the wrist. This will be the length of your arm pads. Measure around the thickest part of the forearm add 2 inches, use this for the measurement at the top of the arm pads.

Measure the wrist and add 2 inches, use this as the measurement for the bottom part of the arm pads. Cut out two of these out of black felt, then cur the 2 inches off your pattern and cut 2 of these out of faux fur.

Stitch these together on your sewing machine with black thread in a design you want. I did mine freehanded because I wasnt sure the best way to mark the faux fur. They are not exactly the same, but look close enough. Repeat for the leg pads.

Attach some black velcro on the sides of the arm and legs pads make sure the one side of the velcro is on the top of the pad and the other side is on the bottom so they close correctly.

Now your child is ready to suit up for the next Quidditch match!

Daniel Radcliffe Is Worth Millions Upon Millions Of Dollars All Thanks To Harry Potter

When Daniel Radcliffe was only five years old, he made one of the biggest decisions of his entire life. Radcliffe signed on to play Harry Potter in the new film franchise.

When the production started in 2000 with Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, Radcliffe earned $145,000. By the second movie, he had already increased to $3 million for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This was then doubled to around $6 million in exchange for starring in the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire raised him to $11 million. By the fifth film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix , Radcliffes contract went up to a hefty $14 million. The final novel of the series, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows , was divided into a two-part movie adaptation released in 2010 and 2011, coming out to around $20 million each for Radcliffe.

Currently, Daniel Radcliffe is worth around $110 million dollars. However, since the major motion picture, Radcliffe has stepped out of the limelight and has worked on smaller productions.

At the end of the day it goes to show you that one decision can have a major impact on the rest of your life and while there are thousands of struggling actors, a single acting job can take you from sleeping on the roof of your friends apartment to living in the most expensive homes in California.

Transfer The Body Pattern To Fabric

OK, when you purchased your fabric it was folded in half length-wise with the “back” of the fabric on the outside. And remember I told you NOT to unfold it. To make the project easier you may even consider ironing the fold so it is even more creased and easier to see. That fold and keeping the long edge of the fabric alined is really important. On a flat, hard surface lay out about 2-3 yards of your fabric. On the left side will be the center fold and the right side will be the edges. The fabric is folded inside out, so the back surface is showing and ready for us to mark on with our fabric marker. We do NOT want to make our mark on the “face” of the fabric. The face is the side of the fabric that is intended to be the outside. Lay your body pattern on the fabric. I am using a dark brown which does not take pictures well so I am using Paper for illustration. See Picture #1Picture #2 – Put your body pattern on the fabric with the center edge flush with Fold edge. Trace with your Fabric markerPicture #3 – I made two mistake on the Picture – To Minimize waste material, the body pattern should be upside down. That is the neck hole should be near the bottom of the picture.Put the Center line of body pattern on the right edge but NOT flush. Back off from the edge 1-2 inches. Trace the pattern.Picture #4 – Cut out the Fabric. Do NOT cut on the line. Cut 1 inch outside the line.

How To Make A Harry Potter Robe

DIY Harry Potter Robe – No Pattern Needed

The most important part of a Harry Potter costume happens to be the Harry Potter robe simply because its the most visual. So if youre planning on making a Harry Potter robe such as the one used by members of the House of Gryffindor, then this article can help you out on how to make one yourself.

First off, youre going to need a black fabric thats 2 inches longer than your size and at least 2 inches wider too . Youll also need a red fabric to complete the costume as a lined robe. This has to have the same measurement as the black fabric. Then youll need a sewing machine , scissors, chalk, an iron, and an ironing board.

Fold the black fabric in two to get you started. Then you need to measure your form against the fabric by lying down on it. Use your chalk to draw a wide outline of your body to get a glimpse of the shape of your Harry Potter robe. If you cant do it alone, get someone to trace the outline for you. Just make sure to stretch out. If you want wider sleeves, draw bigger outlines there. If you want the robe to reach ankle length, draw up to there . Just make sure to make the tracing at least 5 inches or less from your actual body measurement.

The last step would be to iron the raw edges of the openings of the robe that means the bottom hems, the front openings, and also the cuffs. Fold about 1/2 inches. When youre done ironing, stitch the red robe onto the black robe from the inside out. After that, youre done.
