In what seems to be an endless game of hot potato, the Harry Potter films have now, again, jumped ship from Peacock to HBO Max. The definitive tentpole fantasy franchise of the 2000s, which began with a record $93 million opening weekend and $974 million global gross in November 2001 and ended with a record $169 million opening weekend and $1.34 billion global cume in July of 2011 essentially has two homes.
The films obviously belong to Warner Bros., but the theme park attractions belongs to Universal Studios. Anyway, to mark the occasion, and since Ive never sat and done this before, I have used science, math and dark magic to create the the official, 104% accurate ranking of all eight Harry Potter movies. I like all of these films to various degrees, but, as always, this list will not be your list, because what fun would that be?

While giving away the keynote speech at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecommunications Conference, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar teased about the next Wizarding World movie after the Fantastic Beast series. Since the series came to an end, the Wizarding World has been seen in the Fantastic Beasts film series. While Fantastic Beasts 3’s release is set in 2022, the series has two more movies.

Kilar, as per The Hollywood Reporter, said that Harry Potter is Warner Bros.’ one of the most beloved franchises, and Warner Bros. is incredibly thankful to be able to partner with author J.K. Rowling. The CEO added that there is a lot of fun and potential there. Reportedly, this could be about an upcoming live-action TV series on HBO Max. However, according to several reports, a new tentpole could also be developing based on Harry Potter And The Cursed Child stage play.

Harry Potter Is Getting Something Huge In 2022
Even though the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released way back in 2007, the magical wizarding world of Harry Potter is still going strong. From the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie franchise to the ever-expanding Potter-themed park at Universal Studios, theres no shortage of ways for muggles to experience the magic of Harrys world. And beginning in 2022, fans will have yet another Harry Potter experience to look forward to visiting.
Just in time for the 25th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter: The Exhibition is launching at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in early 2022. According to a press release obtained by Looper, the exhibition will be an expansive Harry Potter world experience complete with recreated movie sets, original costumes from the films, and interactive environments for visitors to explore.
While the exhibit is kicking off in Philadelphia, the goal is for this unique Harry Potter world event to travel the globe so fans around the world can celebrate the storys landmark anniversary. As of writing, the opening date and future locales of the exhibit have not been confirmed, but the press release notes the tour will eventually make its way to Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well.

A few months have passed since the events of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film was announced in March 2014 as the second instalment in the series. In October 2016, it was revealed that Yates and Rowling would return as director, and screenwriter and co-producer, and Redmayne would be returning to play the lead role of Newt Scamander in all the series’ films. In November 2016, it was confirmed that Johnny Depp will have a starring role in the sequel, reprising his role as Gellert Grindelwald from the first instalment. Later that same month it was also announced that Albus Dumbledore would be appearing in future instalments, albeit with a younger actor for the prequel film series. Taking into account that the play is shown in two parts because of its length, many argue that a movie version of Harry Potter in the Cursed Child wouldnt really work and might it be better adapted in a TV show format. It so happens that the studio has announced a call for writers for a potential spinoff show set in the world of Harry Potter.

Hogwarts Legacy Video Game
Besides mobile games and various LEGO games over the years, there hasnt been a proper Harry Potter game since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 back in 2011. That will all change in 2022 with the release of the long-awaited Hogwarts Legacy role-playing video game under development at Warner Bros.-owned Avalanche Software. According to a January report from GamesRadar,, the game was originally scheduled to be released at some point in 2021, but now wont come out until some point in 2022 due to delays.. Not much is known about the game outside of the fact it is an RPG set in the 1800s, but more details will surely be available in the coming months.

Is A New Harry Potter Movie Trilogy Coming
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child never struggled when it came to ticket sales, but despite the success of the play, J.K. Rowling has said that it will act as the final chapter in Harry Potters journey.
Well, maybe not so fast on that last part. Some recent comments were made by Jim Hill, a theme park historian and journalist with massive contacts at Disney and Universal, that may contradict earlier remarks from the studios and Rowling that Cursed Child would indeed be the final piece of Harrys story on film.
Hill appeared on the Unofficial Universal Orlando Podcast to discuss a myriad of topics regarding Universal Orlando . During the conversation, Hill made mention of the current contract between NBCUniversal and Warner Bros., specifically a clause that allows NBCUniversal the exclusive broadcast rights for all Potter and Fantastic Beasts films from July 1, 2018, forward.
They not only have Potter, they have Fantastic Beasts and, supposedly, if you drill down into the language of the deal, they also have when theyre finally made the trilogy of movies that will be based on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
That is certainly an interesting development, and would allow the actors to get on wit their careers while also passing on the torch to a new group of stars for future films. Whether it happens or not, who knows, but it is certainly worth revisiting once Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them has started to run its course.

Columbus and Kloves returned as director, and screenwriter for the film adaptation of Chamber of Secrets. Just three days after the wide release of the first film, production began on 19 November 2001 in Surrey, England, with filming continuing on location on the Isle of Man and at several other locations in Great Britain. Leavesden Film Studios in London made several scenes for Hogwarts. Principal photography concluded in the summer of 2002. The film spent until early October in post-production. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets premiered in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2002 before its wide release on 15 November, one year after the Philosopher’s Stone.

The Cursed Child Story
Set 19 years later after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child shows Harry, Ron and Hermione as 37-year-old parents who are seeing their children off to Hogwarts. The play continues Harry Potters story through his son, Albus, following Albus Severus Potter as he uncovers secrets from his fathers past in a time-travel adventure. On top of the original set of characters, the play also features Draco Malfoys son Scorpius, Hermione and Rons daughter Rose, as well as Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestranges surprise offspring Delphi. The time-travel aspect of the play could make for a very engaging movie or TV series, both for new and old, loyal audiences by exploring much of the original story through a fresh lens.

Harry Potter is not available on Disneys streaming service. But, they still offer a lot of original content and new series such as The Mandalorian, WandaVision, Encore, and Marvel Legends.
