Synopsis teases that “only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic,” so it appears that players can make choices in the game and decide to become evil if they want
For context, Dumbledore was born in 1881, so this is mostly a pre-Dumbledore era we are talking about. The leaked footage, a montage of which you can check out below, also gives an idea of the general look and feel of the game in addition to the official trailer.
Bloomberg‘sreport teases that the game will “let players role-play as wizards and roam a vast, open-world re-creation of Hogwarts and its surrounding area” while also noting that that “the video was authentic, but most of the rumors that have come out since are not.”
The upcoming game does not appear to have a direct tie to the original Harry Potter book series but will flesh out the universe’s history like the Fantastic Beasts movies.
Which Cast Members Will Be Featured
Pretty much all the big names from the Harry Potter films will be there, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, who played main characters Harry, Ron and Hermione, respectively.
Other cast members will include Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and Ian Hart, as well as others.
The cast will also be joined by filmmaker Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films.

That’s not the only big news coming from the developer, however. It has a new game on the horizon– Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. We don’t really know anything about this game except for the fact that it’s coming in 2018. 2018 is halfway over, of course, so the odds of correctly guessing the date are now 1/182.5. But there are a few clues that might help us narrow that down.
From Niantic’s perspective, the ideal time to launch a game like this is in the summer months, when the weather is warm in northern climes and when many kids are out on summer break. It’s a thoroughly global game, which means that this window isn’t the same everywhere, but it applies to many countries that hold considerable sway in the video game industry like Japan and the United States. Pokémon GO released on July 6, 2016, and while I don’t think this game is going to release in four days, that date does offer some guidance on when Niantic thinks it’s a good time to release an AR title.

There’s Reason To Be Skeptical Of Hogwarts Legacy’s Attempts At Inclusive Representation
Hogwarts Legacy is going back in wizarding world history, but the game is coming with a fair bit of real world history that’s worth knowing about.
In recent months, J.K. Rowling has made a series of transphobic remarks that have upset many longtime Harry Potter fans, making her connection to Hogwarts Legacy a significant question. The story of Hogwarts Legacy is an Avalanche creation, and on an FAQ on its website WB Games says “J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World.”
When Kotaku asked Warner Bros. whether Rowling would receive royalties from sales of Hogwarts Legacy, a representative declined to comment.
Some fans also raised concerns over videos created by Hogwarts Legacy lead designer Troy Leavitt, who formerly ran an anti-social justice YouTube channel. Leavitt’s videos included his opinions supportive of Gamergate and references to the #MeToo movement as a “moral panic.”
“Im happy to say that, even though I disclosed my YouTube channel to WB Games, it didnt appear to be an issue for them,” Leavitt said in a video from 2018. “Not that they endorse anything that Ive said, of course, but at least they seem more concerned with making good games than with pushing some kind of a social justice agenda, so there is hope.”

What Studio Is Developing The Hogwarts Legacy
Harry Potter RPG is being developed by Avalanche Software. This was revealed in a Eurogamer article back in 2018 and reaffirmed by Bloomberg‘s 2020 report. Avalanche Software was a former developer owned by Disney that was acquired by WB Games back in 2017.
The developer is best known for its work on the Disney Infinity games and the Tak series. Hogwarts Legacy could serve as the studio’s next big break.

Harry Potter Tv Show On Hbo Max
This is not exactly surprising news. HBO Max has had small hits so far, and since Harry Potter is one of the biggest commercially successful intellectual property that parent company WarnerMedia owns, a series based on the Potter books makes sense to land on HBO Max.
HBO Max is already going to be the home for a John Cena-led series Peacemaker, a spin-off of the James Gunn DC movie The Suicide squad. DC Films president Walter Hamada told The New York Times that HBO Max would be getting many shows spinning out of upcoming DC movies.
The only obstacle in the development of the series is Potter creator J.K. Rowling herself. Her anti-trans tweets, and subsequent long-from online letter, have proven so divisive that the studios behind the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy needed to publicly distance themselves, and declare she wasn’t involved with the development.
Were Rowling involved with the writing of this series, the backlash would be swift. Its effectiveness, however, is unclear. Recent Harry Potter films have suffered more because of internal strife Johnny Depp left the Fantastic Beasts films to handle allegations of abuse from his ex-wife Amber Heard.
When Is The Ps5 ‘harry Potter’ Game Release Date

The end of Wednesday’s “Hogwarts Legacy” trailer revealed plans to release the game in 2021, but that’s a pretty broad time range. The difference between a spring and fall release for gamers is significant.
Bloomberg reported in June that the then-unannounced title would come out in late-2021, meaning it likely won’t be part of the first wave of next-gen games.

Update: What We Now Know About A New Film
Now that some time has gone on, there still may not be many updates about the rumor of this new film, but there has been more speculation on when it will be happening, if it does. The franchise is currently in the middle of production on their 5-movie prequel series, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. According to Express, these films wont be completed until the middle of the 2020s. This means that we would not see a film for Harry Potter And The Cursed Child until at least 2030.
While that seems like just too long to wait, it would put the original cast at the right age to reprise their original roles, if they should be interested. Ultimately, the decision is going to come down to J.K. Rowling and where she wants this film to go.
Where And When Can I Watch It
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will premiere Jan. 1 on HBO Max, right as the clock strikes midnight and the new year begins. It’ll also also air on TBS and Cartoon Network in spring 2022, just before the theatrical release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Hogwarts Legacy will release in 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC.

WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar recently teased that new Harry Potter content was in the works for HBO Max, and it has people wondering if they plan on adapting the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Ever since the epilogue scene at the end of the Harry Potter movie franchise in 2011, fans have been asking for more movies set in the wizarding world. Their wishes were granted, somewhat obliquely, by the release of prequels Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, as well as a sequel in the form of a two-part stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The Fantastic Beasts series is surrounded by controversy and has somewhat underperformed overall compared to its predecessor. In September of 2019, J.K. Rowling sent into a meltdown by posting a cryptic in relation to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This looked to be the starting point for the rumors of a film. With no other caption, there was no further elaboration as to what the tweet actually meant. Strangely quiet on as of late, J.K. Rowling still hasn’t confirmed nor denied whether this was a tease that a film was on its way. However, it had been announced that, despite the hype, J.K. While there were whispers, many believed it was simply to celebrate a new logo for The Cursed Child production.

Here’s What We Know About Character Creation
So far, we know that we’ll be able to make our own Hogwarts student in legacy, but we haven’t gotten a look specifically at character creation yet.
According to a Bloomberg report in 2021, Hogwarts Legacy will let you choose a masculine or feminine voice, body type, and dorm placement as “witch” or “wizard” independently when creating a student.
“Some members of the Hogwarts Legacy development team have fought to make the game as inclusive as possible, pushing for the character customization and even for a transgender character to be added,” Bloomberg says. “There was resistance from management at first, the people familiar with the project said, but currently the character customization is included in the game.”
Is Jk Rowling Involved With The Development Of Hogwarts Legacy
The author of the Harry Potter book series, J.K. Rowling, is involved with many projects set within the series’ world, including the ongoing expansion of the universe via Pottermore and the Fantastic Beasts films. In June 2020, Rowling made public criticizing transgender people, and this angered many fans of the series. Harry Potter actors like Daniel Radcliffe have even spoken out against Rowling’s comments, and her involvement with the game appears to be a dealbreaker for some .
