Apparently Making An Unbreakable Vow Causes Scars To Form On Your Hand

Why Dumbledore sees Socks in the Mirror of Erised – Harry Potter Fan Theory

In one confusing subplot, newly appointed Auror Tina Goldstein is trying to uncover the identity and motives of a strange wizard, Yusuf Kama. She notices scars lining his right hand and tells Newt that the markings “suggest an Unbreakable Vow.”

We know that making an Unbreakable Vow involves grasping another person’s right hand while a third person uses their wand to weave a stream of fire around the handshake. But we have never seen this practice leave any kind of scarring on either party.

In “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” Narcissa Malfoy has Severus Snape make an Unbreakable Vow so he will protect her son, Draco. If the Vow were to leave suspicious scars, as Tina suggests, someone at Hogwarts or another Death Eater would have noticed.

The Unbreakable Vow carries severe, deadly consequences if broken, so it’s hard to imagine that anybody would simply disregard Snape making a life-or-death promise to anybody.

Is Credence Actually Dumbledore’s Brother

At the end of the;second Fantastic Beasts movie, Grindelwald reveals to Credence that he is Dumbledore’s brother. However, was Grindelwald telling the truth?

There was no mention of a mystery brother in Dumbledore’s family before this movie and, to make things even stranger, Albus’ father died in 1890 and his mother died in 1899. What makes this information particularly intriguing is;that Credence was not born until 1901.

It seems from this that Grindelwald may have just been lying about Credence’s ancestry in order to manipulate him into fighting Dumbledore. Although, it will;certainly unanswered until the next Fantastic Beasts movie is released.

Magical Abilities And Skills

Since a young age, Dumbledore has always shown great magical abilities. During his education at Hogwarts, Dumbledore was known as the most brilliant student to have ever stepped into the school, winning “every prize of note that the school offered”, and in his N.E.W.T.s, “… did things with a wand never seen before”. Rowling has said that Dumbledore is primarily self-taught, although he “had access to superb teachers at Hogwarts,” and, as far as his education is concerned, “Dumbledore’s family would be a profitable line of inquiry.” While he is not vain, Dumbledore also exhibits no false modesty, readily acknowledging that he is unusually intelligent and an exceptionally powerful wizard. He admits a number oftimes to Harry in their occasional meetings in Half-Blood Prince that he makes mistakes, and since he is smarter than most men, his mistakes “tend to be correspondingly huger.”

Dumbledore is an expert at nonverbal spells and is famous as an alchemist who has worked with Nicolas Flamel, the only known maker of the Philosopher’s Stone, and is credited with discovering the twelve uses of dragon‘s blood. His Patronus takes the form of a phoenix, a recurring symbol in the books.

His knowledge of the most powerful kind of magic, love, is extensive. He taught Harry about its very essence, and the innate power of his ability to love his parents, which eventually helped Harry realise his destiny to kill Lord Voldemort.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

The Mirror Of Erised

In the fourth novel, Dumbledore introduces the Triwizard Tournament. He also serves as a judge during the entire event. When Harry’s name comes out of the Goblet of Fire, Dumbledore is not enraged, but remains calm; simply asking Harry whether he had himself, or had asked an older student to submit his name ” rel=”nofollow”>film version he does get angry to the point of manhandling Harry). When Harry answers no, he believes him. By the end of the book, Dumbledore’s fears are realized when Harry returns from his encounter with Voldemort clutching the dead body of Cedric Diggory and when Mad-Eye Moody takes Harry away from Dumbledore and to his office inside the castle. Dumbledore immediately becomes suspicious and heads straight towards Moody’s office with Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape to save Harry and to interrogate Crouch. Afterwards, Dumbledore listens to Harry’s eyewitness account about Voldemort’s return. Harry though, only wakes up later to find Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge in the hospital wing arguing with McGonagall and Dumbledore about the situation of Voldemort’s return and the consequences that would follow should Fudge remain in denial of this fact.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

In the second novel, a younger Dumbledore appears in a series of flashbacks, seen by Harry in a diary once owned by Tom Riddle, the most gifted student in Hogwarts’ history – and the future Lord Voldemort. Through the diary, Harry sees Riddles memory of Dumbledore questioning him about a series of attacks on Muggle-born students. In the present, Lucius Malfoy forces the school’s other 11 governors to suspend Dumbledore as Headmaster in the wake of attacks by a basilisk in the school when the Chamber of Secrets is opened. Dumbledore is reinstated when the governors discover that Ginny Weasley was taken into the Chamber of Secrets and Lucius is found to have coerced the other governors into suspending him.

Standing Up For Your Values

Fudge isnât willing to stand up and potentially lose his post, heâs only willing to suck up.

You must standup for your values and be willing to lose for those values, in leadership the values you strive for create the conditions of living you want for yourself and others. Minister of Magic Fudge is a fraction of Dumbledore because he doesn’t.

Dumbledore’s father, a criminal, died in Azkaban and he himself has a deeply checkered past, he likes giving people second chances perhaps because he needed one himself. In Harryâs time he is warm and forgiving, as Snape says âhe has to beleive the best in peopleâ.

Abandoning his youthly desire for Muggle subjugation he rose to establish a liberal wizarding era, as recognised by making him Supreme Mugwump, head of the wizard’s court the Wizengamot.

All the sayings âthe apple doesnât fall far from the treeâ, constraining people on their background, stifling peopleâs opportunities prevents contributions which could improve the welfare of all. Dumbledore’s own life, son of a criminal, head of the Wizengamot, dissproves the value of past-blinkered judgements.

Dumbledore would likely also see Pure Blood supremacy, the idea people are born perfect or trash, as much the same as his destructive teenage beleifs and so be deaf to them. Sinning immunised Dumbledore to prejudice.

Kings Cross Station Was Hugely Significant

Although Muggle commuters may not see Kings Cross Station as particularly sentimental the station had colossal value to Harry, and returned to him in Deathly Hallows in the most surreal way. Platform nine and three-quarters was, after all, a gateway between the normal world and the wizarding world, and it was here that Harry ended up when he was nearing the end of his life or so he thought.

Once Lord Voldemort had attempted to kill Harry Harry returned back to one of the most special places from his childhood, and met Professor Dumbledore in a Kings Cross-styled limbo. It was never really explained why, but this world between Muggle and magic discovered as a young boy seemed the perfect place for him to return to between life and death. The next time we saw Kings Cross, it was with Harry waving off his own children going to Hogwarts, showing that the train station had become quite the catalyst for important moments in Harrys life.

What Dumbledore REALLY saw in the Mirror of Erised

We know from the first book that Dumbledore guessed what Harry must be seeing in the Mirror of Erised .

In the chapter in which this happens, JKR doesn’t immediately reveal what Dumbledore sees when he looks in the Mirror.

Is it later revealed by JKR what Dumbledore sees when he looks in the Mirror of Erised?

Dumbledore sees the same thing as Harry – his family, alive and well. Harry realises this in Deathly Hallows.

Harry did not ask whether Dumbledore had ever found out who struck Ariana dead. He did not want to know, and even less did he want Dumbledore to have to tell him. At last he knew what Dumbledore would have seen when he looked in the mirror of Erised, and why Dumbledore had been so understanding of the fascination it had exercised over Harry.

This question has a quote from JK confirming this:

Allie: What did dumbledore truly see in the mirror of Erised?J.K. Rowling: He saw his family alive, whole and happy Ariana, Percival and Kendra all returned to him, and Aberforth reconciled to him.

Harry Potter: What Each Character Saw In The Mirror Of Erised

The Mirror of Erised in the Harry Potter saga showed a person’s deepest and most desperate desires, so what did the main characters see in it?

The Harry Potter novels and movies introduced a number of magical objects that might seem harmless but actually hold a lot of power, and thus can affect each person differently. Among those is the Mirror of Erised, one of the most fascinating objects in the Wizarding World and which showed different things to those who saw their reflection in it, and heres what the main characters in the saga saw in it. Readers were introduced to the Wizarding World in 1997 in J.K. Rowlings debut novel Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, which would become the first entry in a successful series of seven novels.

The Harry Potter books tell the story of the boy who lived and Lord Voldemort, the darkest wizard of all who had sinister plans for both the muggle and wizarding worlds and a personal vendetta against Harry as the young wizard was the only survivor of his attacks. The Harry Potter series became a worldwide phenomenon, so it wasnt surprising that it made the jump to the big screen between 2001 and 2011 . The movies were very well-received by critics, fans, and casual viewers, and it allowed fans of the books to see more clearly some moments, objects, and more, though many others got lost in the jump from the pages to the big screen.

Why Does Dumbledore See Grindelwald In The Mirror

It has been confirmed that Dumbledore is in love with Grindelwald. As the two powerful wizards set out to find the three deathly hallows, Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwalds ideology and overall persona. Its remain to be seen if Grindelwald loved him back.

I believe there is more to this than just being in love with Grindelwald. Dumbledore has always been power hungry. He turned down the Minister for Magic role as he believes it wouldve spiraled him out of control.

The idea of Grindelwald to Dumbledore is being young again, and chasing after the most powerful objects in the magical world. It shows what he wants deepest down in his heart, which is to stand on top of the world with Grindelwald by his side.

What Does Dumbledore Claim To See When He Looks Into The Mirror Of Erised

When Harry arrives at Hogwarts, Dumbledore tells him about the Mirror of Erised which shows the viewer his heart’s desire, claiming that when he looks into it, he sees himself “holding a pair of thick, woollen socks.” Harry later recalls in the final book that this was probably the only dishonest answer Dumbledore ever gave him.

Harry Potter And The Half

And what do you see in the mirror Dumbledore Myself ...

In the sixth book, Dumbledore fetches Harry from Privet Drive and takes him to persuade Horace Slughorn to rejoin the Hogwarts staff. Harry notices that Dumbledore’s right hand is shrivelled and black. During the school year, Dumbledore teaches Harry of events in Voldemort’s past that he feels are of immense importance. Using the Pensieve, they visit the memories of others, which contain important information about Voldemort’s life and his genocidal rise to power. While using the pensieve, Harry sees a vision of Dumbledore’s first encounter with the young Tom Riddle; Dumbledore had known from the beginning that the boy was dangerous, but believed that Hogwarts would change him.

It is learned that Voldemort created six Horcruxes to gain immortality and that they must all be destroyed before Harry goes after the final piece of Voldemort’s soul in the Dark Lord’s body. Harry also repeatedly warns Dumbledore in most of their lessons that school bully Draco Malfoy is working for Voldemort. Dumbledore refuses to take any action against Draco, and instead tells Harry that he already knows more about what is happening than Harry does.

Filch Probably Tipped Him Off

There are three contributing factors at work here that I think indicate how Dumbledore was able to know that Harry would be using the Mirror of Erised that night.

  • Dumbledore himself had only recently given Harry the Cloak – and he knows how inquisitive Harry is.

Remember that Dumbledore himself gave Harry the Cloak in the first place. Harry gets a magical Cloak of Invisibility. Are we really to suppose that Dumbledore thought Harry wasn’t going to use it? If you give someone a Cloak like that then you wouldn’t be surprised to find out that they’ve been wandering around at night when they weren’t supposed to. It’s basically an aide to rule-breaking. Dumbledore knew that James used it to steal food from the kitchens. I don’t think he was at all surprised to find Harry using it for mischievous purposes over the Christmas period. Harry gets given an incredible Cloak. It’s only natural that he’d want to try it out straight away.

  • Filch is a telltale.

However, Dumbledore had some more concrete intel that Harry had found the Mirror. Filch is obviously the member of staff who has the primary responsibility for policing the corridors at night. He is also a stickler for disciplinarian. He seems to go running to Dumbledore every time he thinks a rule is being broken. Consider the following examples:

So Filch has an interest in catching Harry out-of-bed. So does Snape:

Harry decides to go back to the Mirror that night :

Dumbledore And Harrys Chat By The Mirror Of Erised Came Back Around

One of Dumbledore and Harrys first moments of closeness happened when the headmaster found Harry obsessing over the Mirror of Erised. This was the mirror that showed you your utmost desires, and for Harry that meant seeing his parents alive and well.

Dumbledore told Harry that he saw a pair of socks, and he did make a fair point one can never have enough socks. But during their chat in Kings Cross limbo, we finally learnt the tragic past about Dumbledores family, and how he lost both his mother and sister as a young man.

In Philosophers Stone, Harry suspected Dumbledore wasnt being entirely truthful about what he saw in the mirror. After discovering the sad truth about his old headmasters past, and as nice as those imaginary socks mightve been, you might be forgiven for wondering if Albus saw his lost family reflected back at him, too.

It Doesn’t Make Sense That Dumbledore Would Have Such A Young Brother

The big reveal in “Crimes of Grindelwald” is that Credence Barebone, the powerful and unstable Obscurial, is apparently a Dumbledore: Grindelwald tells the young wizard, who was adopted by a No-Maj as a baby, that his real name is Aurelius Dumbledore and that his brother is Albus Dumbledore.

You can read our full analysis of the reveal here, but essentially, the timelines don’t match up.

Dumbledore’s father, Percival,;was sentenced to life in Azkaban when the three Dumbledore children were still very young. Dumbledore’s mother, Kendra, died unexpectedly years later in 1899.

Credence is 18 years old in the first “Fantastic Beasts” film, which makes his birth year either 1907 or 1908.

It’s also notable that Dumbledore’s family strife is a source of great pain and guilt for him throughout his life. If he had had another brother a brother who was abused and manipulated throughout his life and never went looking for him , then that feels very out of character.

We Saw Bathilda Bagshot In Two Very Different Lights

Dumbledore Sees Grindelwald In the Mirror of Erised?!

As little as Harry may have actually read A History of Magic, this old textbook by Bathilda Bagshot was one of the first wizarding books that Harry was introduced to.

However, in Deathly Hallows, Harry actually met the esteemed author when he returned to Godrics Hollow, although maybe you couldnt really call it a meeting. Bathilda was an old neighbour and friend of Harrys parents who Harry went to see during a hopeless phase of Horcrux hunting with Hermione. However, it ended in a real-life nightmare.

Voldemorts dreaded snake Nagini had already got to Bathilda, and used her own skin to masquerade as the old author in an attempt to lure Harry in. It was probably one of the most terrifying scenes from any Harry Potter book, and something we never imagined happening to the author from Harrys first Hogwarts syllabus.
