Knowing that she will not be free to search for her son unless she can return with the Death Eaters as part of a “conquering army”, Narcissa lies to Voldemort and declares Harry to be dead.

Ultimately, thanks to her lie to Voldemort, the Malfoys manage to escape during the final battle at Hogwarts.

Originally cast as the villain Bellatrix LeStrange, McCrory later joined the “Harry Potter” franchise as Bellatrix’s sister, Narcissa Malfoy, in 2009’s “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

McCrory played Draco Malfoy’s mother in the franchise’s final three films.

In recent years, McCrory returned to her roots, starring as Lady Macbeth at London’s Little Angel Theatre. McCrory also appeared on “Peaky Blinders” and “Penny Dreadful.”

She began her career in the theatre in 1990, straight out of drama school, playing Gwendolen in a production of Oscar Wildes The Importance of Being Earnest in Harrogate, Yorkshire. In 1993, the director Richard Eyre, who was the head of the National Theatre, cast her in the leading role in his production of Arthur Wing Pineros comic play Trelawny of the Wells for which she earned glowing reviews.

McCrory also formed the theatrical production company The Public with fellow actor and Staged star Michael Sheen. On Friday, he said she was “so funny, so passionate, so smart and one of the greatest actors of our time”.

He wrote: “From the first moment I met her when we were just kids it was obvious she was very special. It was an honour to work with her and know her. Much love to Damian and her family. Heartbreaking.”

A diplomat’s daughter, her family moved to Cameroon and Tanzania as a toddler, the latter of which she later described as “my most formative country”.

“I loved Africa and it stays with you,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs last year.

She said she caught the performance bug while performing in the school choir.

McCrory starred as Polly Gray in “Peaky Blinders” from 2013 until 2019.

Cillian Murphy, who starred alongside McCrory on the period drama, said in a statement that he was “broken-hearted” over McCrory’s death.

“Helen was a beautiful, caring, funny, compassionate human being,” Murphy said. “She was also a gifted actor – fearless and magnificent.”

“She elevated and made humane every scene, every character she played.,” he added. “It was a privilege to have worked with this brilliant woman, to have shared so many laughs over the years. I will dearly miss my pal.”

“My love and thoughts are with Damian and her family,” Murphy concluded.

Actor Finn Cole, who played her character’s son on “Peaky Blinders,” called McCrory “witty, classy, and “really f—— cool” in a series of Instagram story videos.

McCrory married Lewis in 2007.

They have two children together, aged 13 and 14.

In the tribute penned to his late wife, Lewis also revealed some of her last words directed at their teenage children.

Shes left our beautiful children, Manon and Gully, too early, but they have been prepared for life, Lewis said.

She has exhorted us to be courageous and not afraid. As she said repeatedly to the children: Dont be sad, because even though Im about to snuff it, Ive lived the life I wanted to.

Most of McCrorys friends and fans were shocked to hear she had been unwell.

While paying tribute to the actress, theatre director Carrie Cracknell revealed that McCrorys friends were sworn to secrecy about her struggle with cancer, the BBC reports.

Cracknell told the BBC that very, very few people knew about McCrorys illness because she didnt want to take the spotlight away from her other work – including her charity initiatives.

McCrory wanted to be fully alive and committed to her charity work, according to Cracknell.
