Weekend Estimates: Fantastic Beasts Makes Fantastic
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is doing everything Warner Bros. could have wished for this weekend, posting a lively $75 million opening in the US, hitting $143.3 million internationally for a global opening over $200 million, and getting a A CinemaScore that should give it positive word of mouth going into Thanksgiving. For a franchise reboot, thats a lot of reasons to be happy, although its opening is well below the openings enjoyed by the original Harry Potter franchise. The worst of those, Chamber of Secrets, opened with $88 million over three days .More…

Platform 9: Kings Cross Station London England
The Hogwarts Express departs from Platform 9¾ of Kings Cross Station, which is actually the arched wall between platforms 4 and 5.;
Or, head towards the entrance to platforms 9, 10 and 11 on the west side of the station where youll find a trolley disappearing into the magical realm through a wall marked Platform 9 ¾. To help you get into character theres a shop selling fun accessories from round Harry Potter specs to Hufflepuff hair scrunchies.;

Top Sights Where Harry Potter Was Filmed
Harry Potter’s story is set in a magical, largely fictional Britain, but the film series used many real locations as evocative backdrops. Other settings, like Diagon Alley, exist only at Leavesden Film Studios .
Many of the real-life filming sites are closed to visitors, far out of the way for most travelers, or an unmagical disappointment in person for all but the most committed fan. But plenty of locations are worth visiting for their own sake; these are my top picks.
Harry first realizes his wizard powers;in The Sorcerer’s Stone when talking with a snake at the London Zoo’s Reptile House.
When Hagrid takes Harry shopping for school supplies, they enter the glass-roofed Leadenhall Market and approach the storefront at 42 Bull’s Head Passage the entrance to The Leaky Cauldron pub .
Harry catches the Hogwarts Express train at King’s Cross Station. Inside the glass-roofed train station, on a pedestrian sky bridge over the tracks, Hagrid gives Harry a train ticket. Harry finds his way to the magical platform 9¾ with some help, but these days it’s well-signed, with a luggage cart that looks like it’s disappearing into the wall, and a cleverly located gift shop. Expect a 30-minute wait for a photo with the cart.
In The Prisoner of Azkaban , The Leaky Cauldron’s exterior was shot on rough-looking Stoney Street, at the southeast edge of Borough Market, near The Market Porter pub. En route there, the Knight Bus squeezes between Muggle buses on Lambeth Bridge .

His Reckless Obsession With Bellatrix Lestrange
Towards the end of Order of the Phoenix, in a fight between the Order and the Death Eaters, Bellatrix Lestrange murdered Sirius Black. Sirius was Harry’s godfather and a large paternal figure in his life so his death sparked immense anger and hatred in Harry, which led to his obsession with Lestrange.
Immediately after Sirius’ death, Harry chased after Bellatrix on his own, disarming her. However, this was simply a manipulation by Voldemort to force Harry to kill. In The Half-Blood Prince, Harry ran after Bellatrix on his own again, leaving him at the mercy of his foe and her accomplice, Fenrir Greyback.
Harry’s blind hatred of Bellatrix put himself in dangerous situations, falling for obvious traps that left him at the mercy of more powerful wizards. If it was not for Dumbledore, Ginny Weasley, Tonks and Lupin, Harry would have either been captured or murdered.

International Box Office: Grindelwald Has Quarter Billion Dollar Global Debut
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald started its international run with $191.5 million on 50,865 screens in 79 markets for a worldwide debut of $253.7 million. Its largest opening was in China, but it had to settle for second place there with $36.68 million on 22,008 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $37.53 million. It had more impressive debuts in the U.K. and in Russia . The film had the best opening in the Harry Potter franchise in 21 markets, but overall, it was only 3% ahead of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in the same markets. Its much weaker reviews will likely lead to shorter legs, but even so, it should still have no problem getting to $600 million worldwide and becoming Warner Bros. biggest hit of the year. If the next installment in the franchise falls just as much, then the studio will have reason to be concerned. More…

Wand Lengths And Flexibility
- “Many wandmakers simply match the wand length to the size of the witch or wizard who will use it, but this is a crude measure, and fails to take into account many other, important considerations. In my experience, longer wands might suit taller wizards, but they tend to be drawn to bigger personalities, and those of a more spacious and dramatic style of magic. Neater wands favour more elegant and refined spell-casting. However, no single aspect of wand composition should be considered in isolation of all the others, and the type of wood, the core and the flexibility may either counterbalance or enhance the attributes of the wands length.”

Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone
In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the book that started it all , Harry Potter discovers his true identity in the wee hours of his eleventh birthday: he is a wizard, famous in the magical world for having vanquished the evil Lord Voldemort when he was only a baby. This revelation, delivered by a gruff, hairy giant named Hagrid, sets Harry on a fantastical journey of a lifetime.
He meets bosom buddies Ron and Hermione aboard the Hogwarts Express, and is soon sorted with them into Gryffindor: the house of the intrepid and brave. However, Harry also makes plenty of enemies at Hogwarts, most notably the arrogant Draco Malfoy and the nasty potions master, Snape . And from battling a troll on Halloween to his first exhilarating Quidditch match not to mention the novels climax, in which Harry goes up against Voldemort for the second time in his young life theres never a dull moment in the first year of his new adventure.
Sorcerers Stone also perfectly balances exciting action with touching emotion, as Harry finds a true family in Ron and Hermione after years of misery with the Dursleys. Indeed, the books small, moving moments such as Harry being floored by a gift from Rons mother, or Hermiones tearful declaration at the end about books and cleverness are just as magical as the spells themselves.
Awards Honours And Recognition
The Harry Potter series has been recognised by a host of awards since the initial publication of Philosopher’s Stone including a platinum award from the Whitaker Gold and Platinum Book Awards , three Nestlé Smarties Book Prizes , two Scottish Arts Council Book Awards , the inaugural Whitbread children’s book of the year award , the WHSmith book of the year , among others. In 2000, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novel, and in 2001, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire won said award. Honours include a commendation for the Carnegie Medal , a short listing for the Guardian Children’s Award , and numerous listings on the notable books, editors’ Choices, and best books lists of the American Library Association, The New York Times, Chicago Public Library, and Publishers Weekly.

Minerva Mcgonagall Meryl Streep
Meryl Streep could;be practically anyone and she would do it with total authority, to the point that she becomes the character. More than anything else, she’s blessed with versatility, having played;high fashionistas, quirky witches, divorced mothers,;famous chefs, British Prime Ministers, and more.
Professor McGonagall is going to be a cakewalk in this regard; however, since Dame Maggie Smith’s portrayal is already near perfection, it remains to be seen how Meryl Streep would plan to don the character.
Damage And Underwater Use
Lockhart using a broken wand to cast a Memory Charm, which backfired onto himself
Spells and physical damage could irreparably damage wands, destroying or greatly diminishing their magical abilities. Attempts to repair the wand would not be effective, and the wand might break again while performing magic, or even backfire, as was the case with Spellotaped wands.
The only known way to fully repair a broken wand was through mastery of the Elder Wand, although this ability might be lost if the current master died undefeated because most of the wand’s power would disappear with them.
In addition, wands seemed to possess the capability to function underwater, although the appearance of spells might change, as was demonstrated when Harry Potter attempted to use a Revulsion Jinx to free himself from the grip of several Grindylows. Harry noted that instead of “sending sparks at the Grindylows”, it “pelted them with what seemed to be a jet of boiling water”.

Jurassic World completed the trifecta over the weekend. Not only did the film have the largest domestic debut, it broke the same record internationally and worldwide. The film pulled in $315.61 million on 19,612 screens in 66 markets for a worldwide opening weekend of $524.42 million. It broke the previous international and worldwide records that were held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II. It is also the first film to open with more than $500 million worldwide and it is just a matter of when, not if, it will top $1 billion globally. The only downside is the number of markets it has yet to open in, which is one. It debuts in Japan in August and it might be the biggest global hit of the year before it even gets there. More…

Madam Malkin’s Robes For All Occasions
Madam Malkin’s is a clothing shop next to Flourish & Blotts. It sells robes and other clothing, including the standard Hogwarts-required plain black work robes, and dress robes. Inside the shop, Madam Malkin and her assistants will tailor the robes to fit. Malkin is an archaic term for a crotchety old woman.
Harry has two meetings with Draco Malfoy in Madam Malkin’s shop. This is where Harry meets the first wizard of his own age, Malfoy, for the first time, in Philosopher’s Stone. Harry is rather bewildered by the questions Malfoy asks, because Harry is still unfamiliar with many aspects of the wizarding world. A second meeting occurs just before the beginning of Harry’s sixth year, in Half-Blood Prince. This meeting is far more unpleasant, and escalates quickly into a near-duel before Malfoy and his mother leave in disgust.
