Who Narrated Harry Potter Books In The Uk

    Stephen Fry

There are many other audiobook narrators who narrate the Harry Potter series, but these two are the most popular by far. This is also showcased in how their audiobooks are distributed.

Jim Dales audiobooks are more popular in America and the rest of the world, while the distribution of Stephen Frys audiobooks is focused on the territory of the UK.

Despite this strategy set for marketing the audiobooks both narrators also have fans in different parts of the world based on which style of narration the fans prefer.

This at first glance seems like an ordinary enough statement, but it actually describes a division and constant debate between fans focused on finding the answer to one of the most controversial questions regarding the Harry Potter fandom; who out of two narrators is the better one.

  • Why You Should Give Harry Potter A Listen On Audiobook

    Harry Potter Audio Books 1

As many of us are donning our school robes, hats, and scarves in our favorite house colors and lining up at the theater in anticipation of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1, I have to wonder: how many viewers have read or listened to the books?

That’s right. I said listened to the books. I don’t think I ever finished reading any of the Harry Potter books that are sitting on the bookshelf , and yet I practically have the series memorized. I’m sure I’ve listened to the audiobooks well over two-dozen times.

I think fans of the series, even if they’ve enjoyed reading the books, should give the audiobooks a listen, and here’s why:

Jim Dale – Fans of the television show Pushing Daisies might recognize the name ; Jim Dale as he is the narrator for the quirky and cute show. Some of us know him better as the narrator for the audiobook version of the Harry Potter series. The voice characterizations of Jim Dale bring the stories to life in a different way than they might play out in your head while reading or as portrayed on-screen. Each character’s voice is unique and fitting. A Dungeons and Dragons gal that I play with Twittered, “Seriously, Jim Dale, your Aunt Marge voice is positively disgusting. Well done.”

If you are interested in listening to Harry Potter, the books can be downloaded from the iTunes store, and the CD copies are available through .

    ‘carry On’ And Absorbing Voices

Some of the “Harry Potter”;characters have just a few lines, but Dale adheres to the no-small-parts-only-small-actors credo, breathing life into each, no matter their contribution to the advancement of the plot.

    He credits much of his audio-book;success to two jobs at the start of his career: as a stand-up comic touring the fading music halls of the United Kingdom, and his work on 13 of the wildly popular British sketch movies called Carry On.;;

When J.K. Rowling asked me to do the Harry Potter audiobooks, she knew my work from the Carry On films,” he said. “I didn’t know I had the ability to do different voices.

The voices, he says, he absorbed on the road.

Because I had toured England for two whole years in a different town every week and lived for that one week with people speaking in that dialect, I think that stayed with me, unbeknown to me,” he said. “Consequently, I was able to delve deep into those memories of what it was like living in Yorkshire, living in Scotland, living in Ireland, living in Wales, and reproduced some of those accents when called upon to do so by J.K. Rowling.

His Schoolhouse show, at which he’ll be accompanied by Mark York, will capture the spirit of Dale’s beloved music halls, with stories and sing-alongs.

While millions have heard his voices in those celebrated readings, from the raspy giant Hagrid to the meek house elf, Dale has not.

The voices in his head are enough.

But his grandson, Alfie, had heard the audiobooks.

Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the book that started it all , Harry Potter discovers his true identity in the wee hours of his eleventh birthday: he is a wizard, famous in the magical world for having vanquished the evil Lord Voldemort when he was only a baby. This revelation, delivered by a gruff, hairy giant named Hagrid, sets Harry on a fantastical journey of a lifetime.

He meets bosom buddies Ron and Hermione aboard the Hogwarts Express, and is soon sorted with them into Gryffindor: the house of the intrepid and brave. However, Harry also makes plenty of enemies at Hogwarts, most notably the arrogant Draco Malfoy and the nasty potions master, Snape . And from battling a troll on Halloween to his first exhilarating Quidditch match not to mention the novels climax, in which Harry goes up against Voldemort for the second time in his young life theres never a dull moment in the first year of his new adventure.

Sorcerers Stone also perfectly balances exciting action with touching emotion, as Harry finds a true family in Ron and Hermione after years of misery with the Dursleys. Indeed, the books small, moving moments such as Harry being floored by a gift from Rons mother, or Hermiones tearful declaration at the end about books and cleverness are just as magical as the spells themselves.

So What’s The Recommended Reading Order

Fortunately, Harry Potter isn’t one of those series like Star Wars has a sprawling number of canon novels, film novelizations, reference books, and comics to read. Instead, it’s a finite universe which makes catching up on it much easier. We recommend reading the main series chronologically so that you can see Harry and his friends grow up. Then if you’re still thirsting for more of the Wizarding World ;you can see where your interests most strongly lie , and start again there.

If you still havent read Harry Potter, just know that its never too late to start and even for those who have, youre never too old to go back and relive the magic.
