She’s No Longer Afraid To Fly

One of the most thrilling moments in all of the Harry Potter films is when, after breaking into Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault, the golden trio needs to make a quick exit out of Gringotts and rides on the back of a dragon in order to do it.

And in the films it’s Hermione who comes up with this brilliant impromptu escape plan, however, in the books it’s Harry who originally comes up with the idea. And that comes as no surprise either, because the book version of Hermione actually absolutely hates to fly, and she actually has to overcome her fear in order to escape.

She Commited A Crime By Obliviating Her Parents

Oh, it was so sad how Hermione was separated from her parents by wiping their memories and yada yada, but thats just glossing over the fact that she actually committed a crime.

Wiping someones memory is not sanctioned as the Ministry of Magic had a specific department whose purpose was to do just that. Of course, Hermione didnt broadcast that she wiped her parents memories, but should someone find out that the current Minister of Magic had done this to her parents, her career would be in severe jeopardy.

She Eventually Became Minister For Magic

In 2007, Rowling told “Today” that Hermione went on to a “pretty high up” position in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic.

Previously, in “Deathly Hallows,” Hermione expressed she didn’t want to pursue a career in this field. When asked by Minister Rufus Scrimgeour if she was interested in Magical Law, she said she wasn’t because “I’m hoping to do some good in the world.”

According to the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” play, which joined the series’ canon in 2016, Hermione eventually went on to succeed Kingsley Shacklebolt as Minister for Magic.

Harry Potter: 10 Things About Hermione The Movies Deliberately Changed

An in

The Harry Potter movies are faithful adaptations of the books for the most part, but here are 10 ways Hermione is different.

When it comes to adapting any book into a film, the filmmakers who are creating the adaptation typically have their work cut out for them. It can be insanely difficult to translate an entire book into a completely different medium. And when film adaptations are trying to tackle material as dense, long, and complex as the entire Harry Potter series, the situation is infinitely more difficult.

As far as film adaptations go, the Harry Potter series is arguably one of the best. Although they couldn’t bring every element of the book on to the big screen, they did a fantastic job of capturing the heart of what the books were about. And they deserve a lot of credit for bringing these dynamic, dimensional characters to life too. However nothing can ever be completely perfect, and obviously the filmmakers wound up changing things. So here are 10 things about the character of Hermione Granger that the movies deliberately changed.

Despite Being The Top Of Her Class Hermione Wasn’t Good At Everything

Hermione is known for being a brilliant student who excels in almost everything she tries. She was even called an “insufferable know-it-all” by Professor Snape.

But there are a few things Hermione wasn’t good at.

In “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” we learn that Hermione isn’t particularly skilled at Wizard Chess. In “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” we also see that Divination isn’t her strongest subject. And throughout the series, the young witch never really got the hang of flying on a broomstick.

Movie Hermione Is Much More Attractive

Okay, so in fairness to the makers of the Harry Potter films, no one could have known for sure that young Emma Watson was going to grow up into one of the most naturally beautiful women in the world. And honestly, she’s not the only member of the Harry Potter movie world who was supposed to be ugly but underwent a massive glow up.

However, there are certain elements of Hermione’s appearance that are extremely distinct in the books, like her big teeth and voluminous hair, that the movies clearly completely omitted once Hermione was old enough to be styled like a more attractive teenager and young adult.

When Did Harry Potter Get His Wand

All the Reasons Why Harry Potter Chose Ginny over Hermione | OSSA Movies

Shortly after his 11th birthday and his first time learning he was, in fact, a wizard, Harry visited Diagon Alley with Hagrid to buy his school supplies. During this first trip to Diagon Alley, Harry visited Ollivanderâs Wand Shop to purchase his first wand.

It was something heâd been looking forward to since finding out he was a wizard and seemed quite taken aback by the shop owner Garrick Ollivander himself, and the process of his wand fitting. The details of his fitting included a measuring tape that could act on its own while taking Harryâs measurements, and testing out several different wands that didnât work.

After several failed attempts, Ollivander referred to harry as a âtricky customerâ and decided to try something he seemed to consider rather unorthodox. He gave Harry a wand that he alluded to being somewhat ominous as he offered it to Harry to try. Ollivanderâs intrigue grew as he realized the wand did indeed fit Harry.

Harry paid a total of seven gold galleons for his wand, and Ollivander confirmed that he felt that they would be seeing great things from Harry in the future. Ollivander seemed to base this opinion on the magic the wandâs âbrotherâ had done, which he acknowledged was âterrible, but great.â

Discover Your Wand On Pottermore

The first time we saw Harry Potter feel that sudden warmth in his fingers when he discovered his wand at Mr Ollivanders shop is a moment well remember forever and on Pottermore, you can experience that feeling for yourself by discovering your own personal wand.

If you simply cant wait to finish reading this article discover your wand right now, in our test created by J.K. Rowling.

These wizarding world accessories arent just ordinary wooden sticks theyre much, much more. They channel and focus magic, enabling the spell-caster to perform all sorts of fantastical feats from the familiar swish and flick of Wingardium Leviosa to a sneaky Confundus Charm to stop a certain chap named Cormac McLaggen stealing Ron Weasleys position in Quidditch.

Magic can be performed without a wand, but its difficult. Basically, having a wand helps and they also end up being a really personal item to the carrier. Remember Harrys devastation when his broke in Deathly Hallows? Its not just about the magic they carry, but the connection a witch or wizard has to it.

Now, as Mr Ollivander has pointed out a few times, The wand chooses the wizard. And they really do: if you try to use a wand belonging to another wizard, it might have the tendency to get the hump with you, or at the very least, just wont feel quite right.

Which is why its important to have your very own wand, whether its core is made from a phoenix feather or a dragon heartstring .

Some Of The Spells She Did Were Illegal

Hermione was a stickler for the rules throughout most of the series, but there were times when she felt the need to go against the law.

For example, in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” she used an undetectable extension charm on her bag in order to fit all the supplies the trio needed on their quest for the Horcruxes.

According to Wizarding World, these charms are illegal for private use and are only intended for the production of objects like school trunks and family tents.

In “Sorcerer’s Stone,” she also told Ron while they were riding the Hogwarts Express that she’d already tried out a few spells before starting school. But later on in the series, we learn that underage students aren’t allowed to practice magic outside of Hogwarts.

Harry Potter And The Half

What do Harry, Hermione and Ron look like in the books ...

Voldemort does not appear in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, although his presence and actions are felt: he once again declares war, and begins to rise to power once more. He murders Amelia Bones of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and begins to target members of the Order of the Phoenix, including Emmeline Vance.

Rowling uses several chapters as exposition to establish Voldemorts backstory. In a series of flashbacks, using the pensieve as a plot device, she reveals that Voldemort was the son of the witch Merope Gaunt and a Muggle called Tom Riddle. Riddle abandoned Merope before their childs birth, soon after which Merope died. After living in an orphanage, young Riddle met Dumbledore, who told him he was a wizard and arranged for him to attend Hogwarts. Riddle was outwardly a model student, but was in reality a psychopath who took sadistic pleasure in using his powers to harm and control people. He eventually murdered his father and grandparents as revenge for abandoning him. The book also discusses Riddles hatred of Muggles, his obsession with Horcruxes, and his desire to split his soul to achieve immortality. Rowling stated Voldemorts conception under the influence of a love potion symbolises the coercive circumstances under which he was brought into the world.

Fiennes Had An Unusual Situation Under Those Robes

One of the most unique aspects of the wizarding world is that every wizard and witch dons a distinctive robe, and naturally, Voldemort is no exception. With his sweeping black get-up, Voldemort looks more imposing than ever once he resumes his semi-human form, but if viewers had known about the entire construction of Fiennes costume, they mightve been a little less frightened.

Despite playing one of the most formidable villains of all time , Fiennes had a fairly comical situation happening under his flowing robes. In an interview with Graham Norton, Fiennes admitted that he couldnt handle the womens tights in which he was originally outfitted, so he begged the costume designer to cut part of them out, leaving him with a garter belt and suspenders throughout the entire production. This was a wise move on Fiennes part when you consider that he had trouble performing Voldemorts smooth, powerful walk without this adjustment. But still, its amusing to think about Fiennes clothing situation under those robes. A garter belt is guaranteed to make an evil wizard far less intimidating.

Decades later, in 1945, Dumbledore finally defeated the now-Dark wizard Grindelwald, who had come to possess the Elder Wand. Grindelwalds defeat made Dumbledore the master of the Elder Wand, which remained his until just before his death, when Draco used the Disarming Charm on him.

Dumbledore had another Hallow in his keeping since the death of James Potter: the Invisibility Cloak, which he had borrowed to examine. When James died, Dumbledore kept the cloak and decided to pass it on to Harry, James son.

What You Don’t Know About Hermione From Harry Potter

Perhaps done even better than shown in the books, Emma conveyed Hermiones grief at being overlooked by Ron as a love interest spectacularly. In the novel version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Hermiones sadness was shown through Harrys point of view, which didnt tell us just how grief-stricken she was.

Her Fear Of Voldemort

Hermione is a nerd who reads up on everything before she even has to deal with it. When shes introduced in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, Hermione already knows all about Voldemort and is shown to be as terrified of him as every other wizard.

This makes no sense, because she only has books to go from about Voldemort and was never raised to feat him like Ron. She was even terrified of saying his name until the fifth part. It doesnt make sense why a logical thinker like her would fear something such as a name.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone

Hermione first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone when she meets Harry and Ron on the Hogwarts Express, where she mocks Ron for his inability to perform a spell to turn his rat yellow. She proves just how much she knows by declaring that she memorized all the textbooks by heart. She constantly annoys her peers with her knowledge, so Harry and Ron initially consider her arrogant, especially after she criticises Rons incantation of the Levitation Charm. They heartily dislike her until they rescue her from a troll, for which she is so thankful that she lies to protect them from punishment, thus winning their friendship. Hermiones knack for logic later enables the trio to solve a puzzle that is essential to retrieving the Philosophers Stone, and she defeats the constrictive Devils Snare plant by summoning a jet of bluebell flame.

Hermione is the brains behind the plan to enter the place where the Stone is hidden. She responds to Harrys wariness of Professor Severus Snape and is also suspicious of him. She reveals to Harry and Ron that she does a lot of research in the library, which helped her defeat the Devils Snare and work out the logic of the potions.

Rowling said on her website that she resisted her editors requests to remove the troll scene, stating Hermione is so very arrogant and annoying in the early part of Philosophers Stone that I really felt it needed something huge to bring her together with Harry and Ron.
