Narcissa Actress Almost Played Bellatrix
Actresses considered for the role of Narcissa Malfoy included Natasha Richardson and Allison Doody. On the other hand, Helen McCrory, the actress we now know as Narcissa, was originally cast as Bellatrix Lestrange for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Though, from the current point of view, no other actress would have been a better fit for Bellatrix than the great Helena Bonham Carter, and the same goes for Helen McCrory’s brilliant portrayal of Narcissa Malfoy.

The Harry Potter series has a huge focus on the family connection. The franchise thinks a lot about what it means to have a family and what role a family should play in ones life. Especially the mothers of the series, from Lilly Evans to Aunt Petunia to Molly Weasley, get a lot of focus in the Potter books and movies.

One mother which provides an interesting opportunity for debate is Narcissa Malfoy. While many would argue Narcissa is not a good mother, based in large part on the way her son behaves, others would claim that while Narcissa might not be a good person, she is a good mother. Here are some reasons why both might be true.
Magical Abilities And Skills
- Love: Narcissa loved her husband and son dearly, and was willing to do anything to protect them, such as securing an Unbreakable Vow with Severus Snape, to ensure that Draco had some form of protection. Narcissa’s love also drove her to lie to Voldemort himself, which was instrumental both for locating Draco, and for Voldemort’s final defeat at the hands of Harry Potter. This also indirectly ensured Harry was protected again by a mother’s love. During the final battle, she did not attempt to participate in the fight, but searched everywhere for her son along with her husband until they eventually found him.
- Dark Arts: Narcissa was described as being a practising dark witch by her former house-elfDobby, who was known for telling the truth. Her Black family background and association with the Death Eaters, also very strongly added to her connection with dark magic.

- Narcissa Malfoy: “It’s all right, Draco. I expect Potter will be reunited with dear Sirius before I am reunited with Lucius”

Harry Potter, whom she saved from Lord Voldemort
Harry held Narcissa in contempt due to his rivalry with her son and hatred of her husband. In the same respect, Narcissa held Harry and his friends in disdain and contempt: especially Hermione Granger, as she was Muggle-born, and Ron Weasley, as he was a blood traitor. Narcissa also held Harry in contempt for being Dumbledore’s favourite student and associating with those whom she considered to be inferior. It is also possible that her dislike of Harry was motivated in part by her likely image of Harry’s late father, James Potter, who was a known abuser during his time at Hogwarts, directing much of his abuse towards Severus Snape, a long-time friend of the Malfoy family.
Why Draco Malfoy Saved Harry Potter In Malfoy Manor
Draco Malfoy is known throughout the Harry Potter universe for being a tormenting daddys boy whos purpose was to annoy Harry during his time in Hogwarts. However in the later years Draco is seen to be more cautious about his actions and what part he plays with the Death Eaters.
Why didnt you tell her? Bellatrix. You knew it was me. You didnt say anything.
This statement by Harry shows that he knew that Draco was holding back on telling Belletrix that he was Harry Potter when he was trapped in Malfoy Manor. Draco purposely withheld the information from her. He reluctantly participated in Death Eater activities as his father was a Death Eater and was born into that situation. Draco hesitated on telling the Death Eaters that it was Harry Potter in Malfoy Manor along with Hermione and Ron.
Draco: STOP! The Dark Lord wants him alive Vincent Crabbe: So? Im not killing him, am I? But if I can, I will, the Dark Lord wants him dead anyway, whats the diff ;?Draco: Dont kill him! DONT KILL HIM!
The above state outlines that even though Draco hated Harry Potter, he was still compassionate about not killing him. He was clever with his excuse not to kill Harry as it was Voldemort who was supposed to. Draco knew that what he was doing was wrong and tried to limit his bad actions by stopping Crabbe from killing him.

Narcissa Is A Highly Skilled Witch
House-elf Kreacher describes Narcissa as a Dark Witch, suggesting her prowess in the dark arts. As we learn in the books, Narcissa is more than a capable witch and a great duelist. In fact, she was able to hold her own against both Harry and Ron, and was even not afraid to stand up to her insanely powerful and twisted sister Bellatrix.
She was also likely a skilled occulumens, given she was able to lie to Voldemort about Harry’s death without being detected – something only Severus Snape wasn’t capable of. Finally, Narcissa was great at apparition – a very difficult magic that allows the caster to instantly change location.
Why Did Narcissa Say Draco Is He Alive
Draco Malfoys mother Narcissa was cold, cunning and devoted to the Dark Lord. But she was also a mother, which meant she was willing to risk everything to make sure her son was safe. When Harry survived Voldemorts Killing Curse for the second time, Narcissa pretended he was dead so she could get to Draco.

What she did was more powerful than Dark Magic, and it protected Harry for the rest of his life. Her death was the ultimate gesture of selfless, all-consuming love.

Good Mother: Her Son Loves Her
At the end of the day, Draco clearly adores his mother. When she is mocked or threatened, he defends her without a second thought. As Draco is often cold and selfish, these shows of emotion are of great importance into understanding what kind of a mother Narcissa is.
Her sons clear love of her earns her a lot of points.

Draco eventually went on to marry Astoria Greengrass, despite some of his other on and off again relationships throughout his early years. Astoria was exactly the sort of person that Draco needed to ground himself.
However, the suspected Slytherin member wasn’t well-liked by Draco’s mother. Narcissa didn’t at all agree with Astoria’s attitude towards blood tolerance. Despite being of a pure-blooded family herself, Astoria certainly didn’t hold the same views as the rest of the Malfoy family.
Jk Rowling Reveals What Happened To Draco Malfoy After ‘harry Potter’
“Family gatherings were often fraught with tension, she wrote. Find out why.
Tom Felton, Not Really Draco Malfoy
— In Monday’s entry of J.K. Rowling’s 12 days of Harry Potter stories on her site Pottermore, the Potter mastermind revealed what happened to Slytherin villain Draco Malfoy after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”
According to MTV News, Draco refused to “follow the same old pure-blood line” and saw things differently after Potter saved him in the final moments of “Deathly Hallows.”
For those not privy to the “Potter” books, Malfoy came from a pureblood family, who taught him that only those coming from a mother and father both of magical decent were worthy. Any coming from one parent of magical origin mixed with another without such powers was lower class, according to the Malfoy family.
Malfoy married pureblood Astoria Greengrass, who did not raise their son to believe Muggles or others were less than purebloods.
“Family gatherings were often fraught with tension, Rowling adds about when Draco would get together with his parents Narcissa and Lucius.
In the end, Rowling said she actually felt “pity Draco.” Malfoy was a product of his upbringing and felt like Potter disrespected him by not being friends.
The author left one final note about Malfoy, that she finds readers attraction to Malfoy a unhealthy fantasy.

She Was Highly Prejudiced
Raised in the Black family, Narcissa has grown up with the notion that all non-magical people, muggle-borns, and other beings that are not of pure blood like Werewolves are beneath wizards and those who associate with them are “blood traitors.”
Because of this, she frequently scoffed and grimaced at the sight of anyone;who she would see close to these characters… even her own family. In fact, her beauty was often tainted by her uncomfortable and condescending expression described as looking like “she’s got dung under her nose.”
Worst Mother: Cuts Herself Off From The Good Parts Of Her Family
Narcissa is the worst mother because she cuts herself off from the best of her family. Both Sirius Black and Andromeda, Narcissas sister, manage to overcome their upbringing to understand where their previous ways of thinking were flawed.
Interacting with this part of the family could have been helpful to Draco, but Narcissa is too set in her ways to consider that her son could use some more influences in his life.

Hands, softer than he had been expecting, touched Harrys face, pulled back an eyelid, crept beneath his shirt, down to his chest and felt his heart. Why Did Narcissa Save Harry
The Malfoys want the battle to cease so they will know what happened to their son Draco.
Narcissa lied because she wants the war to end and she knows that Harry is the only one who can end it.
Thus, she save Harry from Voldemort because Harry said that Draco is in the castle, its like a thanks giving for Harry..

Good Mother: She Dotes On Draco
While physical offerings of love are not a replacement for emotional support, there is no doubt Draco this a the apple of his mothers eye.

How Did Harry Know He Could Trust Narcissa Malfoy
In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort believes he has killed Harry, and gets Narcissa to verify that. Taking quotes from this post:
Is Draco alive? Is he in the castle?
The whisper was barely audible; her lips were an inch from his ear, her head bent so low that her long hair shielded his face from the onlookers.
Yes, he breathed back.
Still feigning death on the ground, he understood. Narcissa knew that the only way she would be permitted to enter Hogwarts, and find her son, was as part of the conquering army. She no longer cared whether Voldemort won.
Deathly Hallows – Chapter 36 – The Flaw In the Plan
From the quote, it seems that Harry understood what Narcissa wanted after he revealed Draco was still alive.
How could Harry have trusted her beforehand to not reveal to Voldemort that he was still alive?
- 3From the moment Narcissa asked if Draco was alive he knows what she wants no? At least he could have known. That does not change after answering does it? Or am I missing something?
Harry didn’t have a choice of whether to trust her or not. He couldn’t have prevented her from telling that he’s alive without revealing he’s alive anyway.
Harry did not know who had been sent to verify. He could only lie there, with his heart thumping traitorously, and wait to be examined, but at the same time knowing, small comfort though it was, that Voldemort was wary of approaching him, that Voldemort suspected that all had not gone to plan

Did Narcissa Really Mean It
After reading HBP, many feel compassion for the Malfoys, and the big debate is whether Snape is really evil or if he had a pact of some sort with Dumbledore. Something I wonder, though, is whether Narcissa Malfoy was truly laying her cards on the table when she begged Snape to save her sons life. Is it also possible that Narcissa was instructed by Lucius or by the Dark Lord himself to entrap Snape and thus ensure both his loyalty and Dumbledores demise?
Narcissa is under the influence of a husband who would do almost anything to return LV to power, including cause someone elses child to attempt murder and nearly die herself. Luciuss greatest irritation when he tweaks Draco about his grades is that a Mudblood has bested him. And, Fenrir Greyback is a family friend. Fenrir Greyback is also a werewolf who targets children. These are not signs of a caring parent who loves his son more than he hates Muggles and Mudbloods, but they are signs of someone who would instruct his wife to use their son as bait.

Why Did Narcissa Think Harry Knew If Draco Was Dead Or Alive
When Voldemort did the Killing Curse on Harry in The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and he asked Narcissa to see if Harry was dead, and she asked if Draco was dead – why did she think Harry knew if he was alive or not? It’s not like they’re brothers.
- Presumably because Harry was leader of Voldemort’s opposition. Also he came from the castle which was Draco’s last know location as he did not exited Hogwarts with rest of Slytherin students. And last maybe Narcisa thought that Harry did something to Draco knowing hatred of each otherMar 11 ’16 at 0:45

She wasn’t sure Harry would know, but he was more likely to know than anyone else there.
He’d been on the inside of Hogwarts, with the defenders, and she knew Draco was also inside. Stuck in the Death Eater camp, she had no way of knowing what was happening to Draco or even of getting in contact with anyone who knew – until Harry came along. He was the only person in that clearing who might have a chance of knowing whether Draco was alive or dead, so she took that chance and asked him.
