Early Life And Government Career
Haddon-Cave was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia with his brother David and sister Pamela. He was educated at the University of Tasmania and King’s College, Cambridge. He joined the British Colonial Service in 1952 was assigned to Kenya, British East Africa. In 1961, he was appointed Financial Secretary in the Seychelles in 1961. In 1963, he was transferred to work in the Hong Kong government, working in the Department of Trade and Industry. In 1965, he became the Director of Trade and Industry and was promoted Deputy Secretary of Economy. In 1969, he was appointed Deputy Financial Secretary.

Jessie Cave, who played Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter franchise, said she “was not a right fit for the industry” at the time she scored the role. In a new interview with The Guardian published August 2nd, Cave opened up about life after Lavender and said that she’s been tainted by the industry in regards to her weight.
“It was like winning the lottery,” Cave, now a mother of three, best-selling author and comedic actress, said about landing the part in the franchise. She was chosen from 7,000 other girls who auditioned for Lavender Brownand it was only her third audition ever.

Jessie Cave has opened up about gaining a lot of weight in between filming the Harry Potter movies.
Cave first appeared in 2009s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, starring as the loved-up oddball Lavender Brown who has a brief romance with Ron Weasley .
The actor reprised her role as Lavender in the following two sequels, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I and Part II .
In a new interview with The Independent, the actor who was promoting her new book Sunset revealed that she was treated like a different species after gaining weight when she returned to shoot The Deathly Hallows Part I and Part II, which were filmed simultaneously.
I gained a lot of weight after doing Harry Potter, said Cave. I wasnt starving myself. I was growing up and people tend to gain weight as they get older. Thats just what happens. So I did.
And so going back to the last film, I was treated like a different species.
She described the experience as horrible and really uncomfortable, adding: It was probably more me and my insecurity, knowing that I wasnt fitting into the same size jeans.
It wasnt a time where actresses were any bigger than size eight, said the star, who said she felt invisible after gaining weight.

She later told The Guardian that she’s “definitely considered losing weight and when I have lost weight, I tend to get a part.” Cave continued, “I mean, it’s not rocket science. But I eat healthily, I’m a normal-sized woman, and I’m still regarded, probably, as a fat actress.”
Thankfully, the dialogue around women’s bodies has greatly improved in recent years, and Cave says it’s shocking when she’s treated kindly. “Now when they’re nice to me, and they are sensitive to how I may be feeling about my body, or that I may be breastfeeding or whatever, I almost cry.”
Cave stars in an upcoming ITV comedy called Buffering, which premieres tonight, August 5th, and her novel, Sunset, is out now.

Why Did They Recast Lavender Brown Like This

I’ve never even noticed the first Lavender before! I always imagined her as white though.
In the books, it is heavily implied that Lavender was white. I think it was more of just having someone there for the role until the character was needed in HBP.
is the very first one – weird.
I just thought that Lavender was never in the movies until HBP.
They didn’t know Lavender was white until Half-Blood Prince, when you “couldn’t tell whose hands were whose” while she and Ron were making out. So they recast her as a white girl. The first actress never had any lines and was never pointed out as being Lavender, so it really didn’t make a difference.
So….. they can’t get the final confrontation between Harry Potter and Voldemort right, but they can make sure that this insignificant line holds true?
I thought Lavender Brown would have had brown hair.
I wish they hadn’t have to recast. There’s a lot of different anomalies from the characters in the book to the big screen that are a lot more glaring, but the movie went along with that. There really shouldn’t have been a need to recast.
As others have mentioned, racism could have been a factor, but I don’t think it was something done on purpose. Why is it with all the liberties that the movie took, this was something they felt they needed to correct?

HARRY Potter actress Jessie Cave has bravely spoken out about being raped by her tennis coach when she was 14 years old.
The 33-year-old made the shocking revelation on her new podcast, We Cant Talk About That Right Now, in conversation with her sister Bebe.
Talking frankly about their teenage years and who “had it worse”, Jessie said: “I mean, come on, I was raped. I get the trump card.”
Jessie – who played Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter series – was then light-heartedly accused of “pulling out that trump card a lot.”
Jessie replied: To be fair, acne and braces are bad, but I think rape at 14 is pretty bad. By your tennis coach, who you trusted, a position of power.
She continued: “I was fit and I was very able with a tennis ball. But I was still taken advantage of, and he was sent to jail, so its fine.
“My rape did mean that I have had a completely different adolescence and early twenties to you, because in retrospect I was still recovering and my sexual journey was a completely abnormal road to yours.;
“I think that there are still consequences from that period of time that Im only realising 18 years later, and actually, the more time I have away from it this is going to sound awful but I do feel quite lucky in so many ways that I had a rape that was actually it didnt destroy me.
Jessie is pregnant with her third child.

Alan Rickman was so perfect as Severus Snape that most of the adult characters were aged up so he could be in the films, while Emma Watson is almost identical to Hermione Granger.
However, for various reasons there were some characters across the franchise who had to be recast.
From tragic deaths to behind-the-scenes drama, some actors had to be replaced during the course of making the movies.
There are the obvious ones, such as Michael Gambon taking over as Professor Dumbledore when Richard Harris tragically died, but many fans might not know who originally played Lord Voldemort.

Harry Potter star Jessie Cave, best known for playing Ron Weasleys love interest Lavender Brown in the film franchise, has given birth.
The 33-year-old welcomed her third child this week, but labelled giving birth this time around as extreme.
Posting to Instagram, she said her pregnancy was much more humbling, terrifying and out of her control, than with her two other children.
Abraham Bam Benjamin … Our baby boy was born in the early hours yesterday morning just 40 mins after my waters were broken. Slightly extreme but so were his kicks throughout the pregnancy! This has been a very different experience to my first two births … much more humbling, terrifying and out of my control, she wrote.
We are currently in the neo natal unit but hes a strong boy and its the safest place for him right now. The midwives and the doctors and neo natal nurses have been amazing . Thank you for all the cosmic well wishes.
She also tagged her partner, comedian Alfie Brown, and thanked him for being so wonderful .
Cave previously revealed she fell pregnant with their first child on her first date with Brown.
I told myself I was not going to go crazy the morning after. Because it was futile: he didnt want a relationship He text me a couple of weeks after, asking to go on a second date I didnt get round to arranging it, because I was pregnant, she said.

If Ive done nothing else, if Ive not gone to the gym, not had an audition, not accomplished anything, at least Ive done a drawing, she says, Last year I did 350 drawings out of 365 but this year I am doing 365 unless I die. And its that same brutal honesty that translates into her cartoons.
I felt like was way of getting out those feelings of rejection and unrequited love, she explains, and thats crystal clear when you see the doodles. Her drawings and captions are like that little voice in the back of your head, saying exactly what you want to say, but would really never say out loud. They speak the truth, and are incredibly relateable to not just relationships, but life in general.
