Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenixrating & Content Info

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Official Trailer)

Why is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix rated PG-13?Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images.

Theres been a lot of discussion about the Potter series growing darker, and certainly in tone and mood this film fulfills that prophecy. However, in our content categories, this one comes up with better grades than the two previous outings. Violence is the greatest concern, with a jump scene and other visions of ghost-like characters and odd-looking creatures that will certainly frighten young children. The death of a character is discussed, and we see a bloodied face in a few quick flashbacks. All other violence is through magic manipulation and people being shocked or knocked over by metaphysical forces. At times characters disintegrate or disappear in a beam me up Scotty type of effect, but nothing gruesome. Sexual content is limited to a single kiss, with absolutely no other activity seen before, during or after. Language includes one mild expletive and another word that is somewhat more objectionable in North America than Britain. Parents sensitive to depictions of occult and satanic-like themes may not find this film suitable for their children.

The Death Of Dobby Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1

Had audiences ever wept so much before at the death of a CG character? Have they since? The emotional death of Dobby was a marvel in giving one of the favorites of the series a tear-jerking send-off. Framestore augmented scenes of Daniel Radcliffe holding a Dobby-sized body double and dummy with a completely digital house elf. What made it extra-convincing were new ways to simulate sub-surface skin and deliver realistic cloth movement.

Norbert The Norwegian Ridgeback

  • The part where the dragon Norbert is sent to Charlie Weasley is omitted. Instead, Hagrid later revealed to the Trio that Dumbledore sent him to Romania .
  • When Harry and Hermione get detention, it is because they left the Invisibility Cloak in the Astronomy tower while sending Norbert to Charlie Weasley and were caught by Argus Filch at the foot of the stairs. Neville was also given detention for being out of bed because he was trying to warn Harry about Malfoy and was caught by Professor McGonagall. In the film, they get detention because Draco Malfoy saw them in Hagrid‘s hut past curfew . Ron is also with them in the film, while in the book he was recovering in the hospital wing after being bitten by Norbert. Therefore, in the film, Ron gets detention instead of Neville.

In The Scene Professor Mcgonagall Verbally Eviscerates Professor Umbridge In A Way Readers Only Wish They Could

Harry tells McGonagall that he wants to be an Auror, which is a type of law-enforcement officer who investigates the use of the Dark Arts. It seems like a perfectly reasonable career choice given that Harry successfully dueled with Lord Voldemort, and lived to tell the tale.

McGonagall responds by informing him of what academic qualifications he’ll need in order to be considered for the Ministry position.

It’s a seemingly straightforward exchange, except for the fact that Umbridge continuously interrupts the conversation by faking a cough and clearing her throat.

Without so much as looking at her colleague, McGonagall wryly says, “May I offer you a cough drop, Dolores?”

It’s a simple line, expertly delivered by an increasingly-impatient McGonagall. But Umbridge persists, launching a full-blown attack on Harry’s career plans, boldly stating, “Potter has no chance whatsoever of becoming an Auror.”

Incensed, McGonagall tells Harry, “I will assist you to become an Auror if it is the last thing I do. If I have to coach you nightly, I will make sure you achieve the required results.”

The exchange is fiery and unrelenting, and the message is clear: Umbridge may have the Ministry of Magic behind her, but Harry has McGonagall in his corner.

Differences From The Book

At 766 pages in the British edition and 870 in the American edition, Order of the Phoenix is the longest book in the Harry Potter series, however the film is the second shortest. Screenwriter Michael Goldenberg described his task to cut down the novel as searching for “the best equivalent way to tell the story. My job was to stay true to the spirit of the book, rather than to the letter”. Goldenberg said that Rowling told him, the producers, and Yates that “she just wanted to see a great movie, and gave permission to take whatever liberties felt needed to take to translate the book into a movie she would love”. Cutting down the book to meet the time frame of the film, Goldenberg explained, became “clearer when figured out that the organising principle of the screenplay was to narrate Harry’s emotional journey”. He and Yates “looked for every opportunity to get everything could in there. And where couldn’t, to sort of pay homage to it, to have it somewhere in the background or to feel like it could be taking place off-screen”.

Rita Skeeter, the journalist played by Miranda Richardson in Goblet of Fire, was also removed. In the book, Hermione blackmails her into writing an article that supports Harry as the rest of the Wizarding world denies his claims. Richardson noted that “it’s never gonna be the book on film, exactly. … They’ll take certain aspects from the book and make it something that they hope is going to be commercial and that people want to see”.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix: 10 Things The Movie Changed From The Book

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix- NW third trailer

The Harry Potter movies definitely captured the essence of the books, thought The Order of the Phoenix adaptation left some important things out.

It was always going to be difficult for Warner Bros to cram in every little detail for the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie, which was released back in the summer of 2007. With JK Rowling’s book spanning a gargantuan 766 pages, it’s easily the biggest novel of the entire franchise, easily longer than the Goblet of Fire, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows entries.

Voldemort Can’t Overcome The Power Of Love

One of the biggest moments in the final battle is when Voldemort possesses Harry, likely in order to pressure Dumbledore to sacrifice the boy. Unfortunately for He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Voldemort isn’t all-powerful, shown through his failure to beat Dumbledore in a one-on-one battle and leading him to resort to the possession. It’s also likely that the only reason Voldemort is able to possess Harry is because of their connection as Harry is technically one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes although neither person realizes this fact by this point in the story. Because of this, Voldemort is still controlled by the limitations of magic even if he doesn’t believe so.

No Percy Weasley Storyline

He’s not a main character, but Percy Weasley is involved in the first three Harry Potter movies. He then leaves to work at the Ministry of Magicbut that’s all movie-goers get to see.

In the books, it’s established that Percy has turned his back on his family following their decision to accept Harry’s word on Lord Voldemort’s return. This causes Mrs. Weasley, in particular, a great deal of anguish. The rest of the family are furious with him, and it would have made Percy’s appearance to arrest Albus Dumbledore later in the movie make a whole lot more sense.

  • The story of Lupin’s connection to the Shrieking Shack and Whomping Willow is omitted.
  • In the novel, Snape appears in the Shrieking Shack after pulling off the Invisibility Cloak, but in the film, as the trio didn’t bring the cloak with them, Snape appears visible and is seen when he disarms Sirius.
  • Also, in the film, Snape disarms Sirius with Lupin’s wand since Lupin passed it to him when Sirius was so wanting to kill Pettigrew. In the novel, Lupin never gave his wand to Sirius, so Snape never disarms the latter.

Flight Of The Fat Lady

  • While the book has Peeves describe Sirius Black’s attack on the Fat Lady’s portrait after learning about this from her when he saw her in a portrait on the fourth floor, in the film it was the Fat Lady herself that described the attack from a nearby portrait.
  • In the book, while Harry cannot go to Hogsmeade and stays with Lupin, they spend their time in his office and Harry sees a Grindylow which Lupin was taking delivery of for their next lesson, while in the film, they are talking on the Wooden Bridge. This difference creates a continuity error in the seventh film when Lupin interrogates Harry after the Battle of the Seven Potters holding his wand to Harry’s face and asking him ‘what creature sat in the corner the first time Harry Potter visited my office in Hogwarts.’

Costume And Set Design

Who would you have liked to see more of in the 5th movie ...

Cuarón wanted to establish a more mature tone in the characters’ costumes and the sets. He explained, “What I really wanted to do was to make Hogwarts more contemporary and a little more naturalistic.” He studied English schools and noted, “Each teenager’s individuality was reflected in the way they wore their uniform. So I asked all the kids in the film to wear their uniforms as they would if their parents weren’t around.” Columbus considered the costumes changes as “a reflection of the character development within the books themselves” and their transition to teenagers. Whereas in the first two films the characters are constantly in their uniforms, in Prisoner of Azkaban the characters often wear modern street clothes. Rowling, who had to be consulted on this change, stated, “for me the cloaks and everything makes sense for the academic time but in personal time they would be wearing their own clothes.” joined the film as costume designer, also working on all of the following instalments in the series.

Some sets were either reused from earlier films or used for more than one space. The Defence Against the Dark Arts and Divination classrooms were filmed in the same set. The Honeydukes set was a redress of the set of Flourish & Blotts that was seen in Chamber of Secrets, which, in turn, had been redressed from the Ollivanders set from the first film.
