What Is The Spell For Light In Harry Potter

Don't Miss

The Imperius Can Take Over Its Victim’s Mind

Harry Potter Spells

Like the Memory Charm, the Imperius is a spell that attacks the mind. However, it is far more potent. One of the three Unforgivables, Imperius allows the caster to take complete control of the victim. Disguised as Mad-Eye Moody, Barty Crouch Jr. uses this spell, first on spiders, then on the students. Voldemort casts it on Harry, trying to force him to kneel.

On both occasions, he is able to fight Imperius off. The goblins of Gringotts aren’t so lucky, as Harry is forced to resort to his spell when he and his friends break into the bank.

Confundo Used To Confuse Opponents

Heres an easy one. Confundo is the exact first-person conjugation of the Latin verb confundere. The prefix con- means with or together and the suffix -fundo means to pour. When put together, the word literally means something like mix, but is now figuratively used to be jumble or confuse.

    Portraits In The Headmaster’s Office

The portraits in the Headmaster’s office depict all the former Heads of Hogwarts, with the exception of Dolores Umbridge. They advise the Headmaster and are “honour-bound to give service to the present headmaster” . Rowling has explained that portraits of past headteachers tend to be more realistic than most, as the subject in question usually imparts knowledge and teaches them how to behave before their death. The portrait of Snape was installed in the Headmaster’s Office at Harry’s request.

Protego Diabolica Burns Away The Caster’s Enemies

Crafty Distractions: A Harry Potter Spell Book

A newer spell that appears in Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Protego Diabolica summons a circle of flame around its caster, keeping all allies safe and incinerating opponents. In the script, Protego Diabolica is described as black, but the movies portray it as a light blue.

The spell kills Leta Lestrange at the end of the movie. Enhanced into a gigantic dragon, it would have destroyed Paris, if not for the combined efforts of Newt and Theseus Scamander, Tina Goldstein, Nicolas Flamel, and Yusuf Kama. Protego Diabolica has many things in common with Fiendfyre, but its main advantage is that it cannot kill the caster or his allies.

The Really Useless/worse Than Useless Harry Potter Spells

    81. Avada Kedavra

Its used to kill people, its an Unforgivable Curse, and it was Voldemorts favourite, so its going last. Theres probably a big philosophical debate we could get into about violent curses like this would this one have been okay to use on an evil dark wizard, for instance? but were going to take the tack that murder is bad and leave it there.

    80. Crucio

Yep, this is another Unforgivable Curse that Harry actually attempts to cast himself a couple of times, but nobodys perfect, right? Its also yet another spell that could land you in a cell with some Dementors .

    79. Imperio

We know what youre thinking: Why is a spell that Harry Potter busts out in order to retrieve a horcrux so low down on the list of usefulness? Wouldnt the whole wizarding world be a different place if Harry hadnt used the Imperius Curse to sneak into Gringotts? Well, maybe. But if were looking at this thing objectively, an Unforgivable Curse which puts the victim under the casters complete control is both a) obviously super evil, and b) a good way to get yourself locked up in Azkaban for life.

    78. Morsmordre

Baddies use this one to conjure the Dark Mark in the sky. You dont want to be a baddie, do you?

    77. Brackium Emendo

Avada Kedavra Is The Ultimate Unforgivable Curse

As the most sinister of Unforgivables, Avada Kedavra the Killing Curse is an incredibly powerful spell that is a favorite of Lord Voldemort’s. It is impossible to block through any kind of shield charm, though it can be dodged or stopped through the use of physical barriers. The only clear weapon against Avada Kedavra is sacrificial magic powered by love, as demonstrated by Lily Potter’s rescue of her son, Harry.

Expecto Patronum Summons A Powerful Protector

The Patronus Charm is an incredibly difficult spell to master. Expecto Patronum is a spell used to fight dark creatures like Dementors or lethifolds, and it is powered by strong, happy memories. It is said that dark wizards cannot cast this spell, and merely making the attempt would make them be eaten by maggots. The spell can also be used to convey messages. The only Death Eater capable of casting the Patronus Charm is Severus Snape.

Known as the Memory Charm, it was also Gilderoy Lockharts forte with it allegedly being the only spell that he could use without making a mistake during Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, before Rons broken wand made sure that wasnt true either.

But even in the wizarding world, winter isnt all Weasley jumpers and Butterbeer. Witches and wizards seem to rely on a few little spells to help them through the colder months. Spells we think it would be quite useful to have in the real world, too. Heres a few of them:
