Everyones caught up in the trauma and the idea that they might die, and they were fighting for an honorable cause. They were just like, I quite like you and lets see, and maybe well die, and this will be beautiful. But I think that ended, and then they both survived. Im not surprised about it, because I remember feeling astonished seeing Neville confess his love in the movies : I didnt remember at all it being in the book, and I still cant find it. I think they sit together at Dumbledores funeral, but that might be it. It is not in the book. Neville does not end up with Luna.

There is a reason Neville was such a disappointing student during his first several years at Hogwarts, and it has everything to do with wand lore.
Neville Longbottom, like the actor who plays him, Matthew Lewis, had a legendary glow-up throughout the Harry Potter series. He began as a mostly comic-relief character. Yet, the underwhelming and forgetful Gryffindor classmate of Harry Potter grew into one of the key members of Dumbledore’s army, as well as one of the few people who destroyed one of Voldemort’s horcruxes. He was indispensable in the destruction of the Dark Lord.
There is a very reasonable explanation as to why Neville was such a disappointing student for his first several years at Hogwarts, and it has everything to do with wand lore in the Wizarding World. Wand lore plays a significant role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and author J.K. Rowling, through the wandmaker Ollivander, explains in great detail the importance of wand allegiance. “The wand chooses the wizard” is a famous line from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, but the real consequences of that concept becomes relevant in Hallows.

Harry Potter And The Half
Neville receives a new wand in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince as the old one, which was actually his father’s, was broken during the struggle with Death Eaters in the previous book. During the train ride to Hogwarts, Neville is invited by Horace Slughorn to join the Slug Club, but apparently does not pass Slughorn’s first test as he is not invited again. It is revealed that Neville achieved an “Outstanding” in Herbology, and he did well in Defence Against the Dark Arts and Charms, earning an “Exceeds Expectations.” Neville wants the D.A. meetings to continue, as he feels they have helped him and the others to improve their skills, however they stop as Harry now says there is no need as they now have a “proper teacher”. When a group of Death Eaters guided by Draco Malfoy attack the castle, Neville answers the call for help, and he fights against the Death Eaters once again, though he suffers minor injuries. During Dumbledore’s funeral Neville is accompanied and assisted by Luna, and Harry felt a “great rush of affection” for them because they were the only two D.A. members that helped Ron, Hermione, and Ginny in the struggle with the Death Eaters.

His Parents Never Recovered
Voldemorts disappearance following his encounter with baby Harry was widely celebrated in the wizarding world, but the event had dire consequences on Neville and his family. Four Death Eaters attacked Frank and Alice Longbottom in an attempt to discover Voldemorts whereabouts among them were Bellatrix Lestrange, her husband Rodolphus, his brother Rabastan, and Mad-Eye Moody-wannabe Barty Crouch Jr.
The Longbottoms were tortured into insanity when their son was just a year old. They were sent to St. Mungos Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, where they would sadly spend the rest of their lives.
I know some people really wanted some hope for , and I can see why, said Rowling. In a way, what happens to Nevilles parents is even worse than what happened to Harrys. But, she went on to explain, The damage that is done, is some cases with very dark magic, is done permanently.
Neville Longbottom And Hannah Abbott
We know from J.K. Rowling that Neville Longbottom and Hannah Abbott, a Hufflepuff in the same year, eventually married, living together above the Leaky Cauldron pub. But we never really saw Neville and Hannah even talking while they were at Hogwarts. We can see it making sense though: they had a lot of opportunities to become friends, such as both being members of Dumbledores Army and the fact that Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors often had Herbology lessons together.
Academic anxiety was, of course, another thing Hannah and Neville had in common, with Hannah bursting into tears during a Herbology lesson and saying that she was too stupid to take exams and wanted to leave school now. Herbology was also the lesson Hannah was taken from to be told her mother had been found dead. A family being shattered by Voldemort and the Death Eaters was something else Neville could understand well. Perhaps the first deeper conversation they had was through bonding over these shared experiences.
Though we dont see it, its easy to believe Neville and Hannahs relationship would have been a lovely one, perhaps not glamorous but steadfast, long-lasting, and based on deep mutual respect, supporting each other and keeping each other strong. The sort of love that makes you feel all cosy inside, like good toffee. Bless em.

JK Rowling did actually warm to the idea of their relationship, purposely leaving it open at the end of The Deathly Hallows, but she has since insisted that both found love elsewhere. In fact, Matthew Lewis has suggested that Neville and Luna enjoyed a summer fling before the pair moved on.
Luna married Rolf Scamander, grandson of Fantastic Beasts Newt Scamander, and together they traveled the world looking for unlikely magical creatures. Neville eventually settled down with Hufflepuff Hannah Abbott. The newlyweds live alone above the Leaky Cauldron, where Hannah is the landlady, although she has applied for the role of Hogwarts matron to be closer to her husband.
