Snape returned with a more prominent role in the fifth episode of Harry Potter. Voldemort had returned to a mortal body, and Snape had continued working as a double agent for Voldemort.

Snape and Sirius had several altercations in this series, and he even taunts Sirius about his inability to have a role in the orders mission because of his fugitive status. Harry felt Sirius took many risks because of Snapes taunts.

Later in the series, Dumbledore approached Snape to teach Harry the Occlumency, which protects the mind against external influence. Harry also prematurely enters Dumbledores Pensieve, where he saw his father, James, and Sirius bullying Snape and Snape, calling Harrys mother, an offensive name- Mudblood.

Sirius later died in this series, and Harry held Snape partly for it.

Staunton Has Continued Her Successful Career On Stage And On The Screen

Staunton went on to appear in Maleficent and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil alongside Davis, and voice a character in Paddington and Paddington 2 alongside Walters and Gambon.

On TV, shes played Karen Edwards on ITVs A Confession, Mary on ITV Hubs Flesh and Blood, and, most recently, Penny on the Apple TV+ series Trying.

Staunton will also be taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth II starting on the fifth season of Netflixs The Crown.

Dumbledore Also Gives Harry The Resurrection Stone

During the first book, Harry Potter catches a Golden Snitch by swallowing it during his first Quidditch match. Later, Potter discovers Dumbledore hid the resurrection stone within that snitch. After Dumbledore’s death, his will leaves the resurrection stone-containing snitch to Harry.

“To Harry James Potter, I leave the Snitch he caught in his first Quidditch match at Hogwarts, as a reminder of the rewards of perseverance and skill,” his will reads.

For a while, Harry is unable to open the snitch. A sentence merely appears on the golden sphere, “I open at the close.”

But at the end of the final book when Potter is walking to his death match with Lord Voldemort, he’s finally able to open the snitch by whispering “I am about to die.” Inside, he finds the resurrection stone, the stone that was part of the Tale of Three Brothers. Harry is then able to see all of his deceased family members before what he believes is to be his final fight with Lord Voldemort.

Why Dumbledore Was Recast

In the first two Harry Potter films, Dumbledore is portrayed by Richard Harris. Unfortunately, after the second film was completed, Harris died. This put Warner Brothers in an unenviable position of replacing a major character in their franchise. This was particularly difficult for this series, as WB knew they had at least five more films Dumbledore would need to appear in. That meant that whoever they cast would have to be the right fit for the role. Recasting again could throw off the franchises continuity even more.

The studio ended up going with veteran actor Michael Gambon. Gambon played Dumbledore starting with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and finished out the series as the character, with his last appearance coming in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.

When the Potters became Voldemort’s targets due to a prophecy made about their son and the Dark Lord, Dumbledore attempted to protect them by casting the Fidelius Charm and offering to be their Secret Keeper, but the role of Secret Keeper went instead to Peter Pettigrew, which turned out to be a fatal mistake, as Peter turned out to be a spy, and he betrayed Lily and James to Voldemort, who killed them. Dumbledore was very saddened by their deaths and dedicated the rest of his life to protecting their son, Harry, without giving him any happiness in his childhood. He often told Harry about the great goodness of his parents, and repeatedly consoled him with the assurance that his parents would never ever truly leave him because of their love for him. Harry learns that the Order is a secret group fighting Voldemort they remain undercover because the Ministry of Magic officially claims Voldemort never returned. Why Sir Ian Mckellen Turned Down The Role Of Professor Dumbledore In Harry Potter

In 2002, Harris passed away in between the filming of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. McKellen opted not to replace him because apparently Harris had been critical of McKellens work, calling him technically brilliant, but passionless. Because of that nonsense statement, McKellen was turned off by the idea of taking over for the role.

When he died, he played Dumbledore, the wizard. I played the real wizard, McKellen said. When they called me up and said would I be interested in being in the Harry Potter films, they wouldnt say what part, I worked out what they were thinking. And I couldnt. I couldnt take over the part from an actor who Id known didnt approve of me.

Apart from the shade about playing a real wizard, I respect McKellens decision to ultimately not take on the role. He knew Harris wasnt a huge fan of his, and stepping into his shoes just didnt feel right. Plus, did he really need Harry Potter when he had The Lord of the Rings?

McKellen made the decision out of respect rather than bitterness or anger, and I doff my cap to him. That said, Im sure him playing Dumbledore would have been instantly iconic.

And even though McKellen didnt actually play Dumbledore, Im one of those people who always assumed he and Michael Gambon were one and the same. And it turns out, McKellen feels the same. When I see the posters of Mike Gambon I think sometimes it is me.

Azad joined the Harry Potter cast in Goblet of Fire, just in time for the Yule Ball. She continued to appear in the subsequent Potter films, but has not pursued acting since. Snape had to kill Dumbledore. Firstly, because it was an act of mercy for Dumbledore, as he was already dying, first from the curse he received when he put on the Gaunt ring, and second when he drank the potion from the cave with the locket horcrux. That’s what Dumbledore means when he says “Severus. Please.”.

Snape also had to kill Dumbledore to remain a trusted Death Eater, and Voldemort’s right hand. He needed to be a double agent in Voldemort’s ranks in order to be able to help Harry & Co on their quest, such as when he sent his doe Patronus to the lake where he hid the sword of Godric Gryffindor.

As to how Snape became a double agent – it was after Voldemort had become determined to kill Harry as an infant, thus endangering his mother, Lily, whom Snape love since they were children.

Snape begged Dumbledore to protect Lily however, Lily still died. Snape continued to serve Dumbledore as a double agent to honour her memory , which was living in her son

Dumbledore did indeed ask Snape to kill him, so that Draco wouldnt either succeed and maim his own soul, or more likely fail and be killed by the Dark Lord for his almost inevitable failure.

Dumbledore didnt want Draco to do it and harm his soul, but he also didnt want to die at the hands of someone who would prolong his death and make it more painful. He preferred that Snape kill him quickly, and since it was done as an act of mercy, Snapes soul would remain intact.

Its clear that Dumbledore did both ask and expect Snape to kill him, and this was always his plan.
