Why Does Voldemort Look Weird

Don't Miss

How Did He Make Harry A Horcrux

Why Voldemort Looks Like A Snake | Harry Potter Theory

There are certain elements of Harry’s Horcrux-ification that make some sense. It’s understandable that Voldemort’s soul was incredibly unstable after he had made half a dozen Horcruxes. It’s logical that when the killing curse directed at Harry rebounded onto Voldemort that it split his soul again.

But how exactly does one accidentally make a Horcrux, and if it’s easy enough that it can be done accidentally, then why doesn’t that happen far more often? The process to create a Horcrux is still a mystery but it appears to be fairly complex, so it’s pretty strange that Voldemort’s soul managed to skip all of the technicalities and make Harry a Horcrux.

But What About Those Wings

In the play, Delphi has a pair of wings that are concealed until the end of the story, when she flies in the air above the others. Its the same pair of wings seen on the cover of the script book.

This part cant be explained in canon save for the fact that Voldemort is capable of flying. Obviously he didnt have wings, but we think the playmakers added them for a dramatic effect on the stage.

He’s Very Shy And Very Private

Most actors excel at talking about themselves, usually to the exclusion of everything else. Not Ralph Fiennes. “There are things that are… hard for me to talk about,” he told Saga Magazine in October 2012. He suspects this has something to do with his working process: “In order to create an emotional life for any character I play, I tend to scan my own life, my own experiences and fit them into the imaginary world my character inhabits,” he says.

Paradoxically, this technique makes him clam up about personal matters. Still, he was rather reserved and introverted as a child, too. “I was quite shy, I was never good at sport, I was happiest in the art class,” he told The Guardian in December 2011.

Exactly what life experiences did Fiennes draw upon to play Voldemort, a wizard who gleefully tried killing an infant Harry Potter with an Avada Kedavra curse? Alas, it seems the actor prefers staying mum on his process… but we do know a few things about his childhood.

Draco Was Forced Into Becoming A Death Eater

Following Lucius blunder at the Ministry of Magic in the fifth book, Draco is forced to take his fathers role as a Death Eater and is then coaxed into becoming the key player in the plot to assassinate Dumbledore. As we see in the sixth book, this takes a massive toll on Dracos sanity, breaking him to the point where his only true moment of agency is in refusing to hurt Dumbledore, only to need to carry that burden anyways when Snape finishes the job for him. Draco wanted to be a Death Eater, but he never really understood what that meant until he was forced to become one.

Draco Is Not Wholly Bad

How Did Voldemort Lose His Nose

Which actually does speak volumes to who Draco is as a person in the context of the Wizard World. When it comes down to it, hes not necessarily a bad man. He certainly acts spoiled and bratty while also actively helping Voldemort attack Hogwarts, but, and this is a big but, he doesnt want to be doing any of this. The fact of the matter is, Draco would not act the way he does in the series if he had any sort of agency. Of all the major characters in the books, Draco is the only one who exclusively acts on the wills of others, and its all because of one key reason.

Draco Isnt As Hardened As He Lets On

Throughout the series, when Draco does actually appear, he puts on a hard, antagonistic front. Every interaction he has with Harry after their first meeting is coated in layers of resentment and general hatred. It gives off the impression that Draco really is nothing more than a schoolyard bully.

While this is true to some extent, especially in the earlier books, its worth considering how later revelations about Draco reframe these earlier interactions. He is someone clearly influenced by his parents and the expectations of being a Slytherin. Draco is forcing himself to act cold and aloof as per his role. Would a hardened boy cry his eyes out to Moaning Myrtle?

He’s Been Nominated For Two Oscars

With such a list of iconic characters on Ralph Fiennes’ resume, one would think his home would be brimming with Academy Awards some displayed on the mantle, others tucked neatly away in the closet for safekeeping, and perhaps one could be proudly situated on a side-table as a some sort of kitschy keychain holder. Alas, Fiennes has yet to win a gold statue, although he’s been nominated twice.

Fiennes was nominated for best actor in a supporting role in 1994 for his unforgettable performance in Steven Spielberg’s Holocaust drama Schindler’s List. In the film, the actor portrays Amon Goeth, the merciless SS commandant who delights in killing random concentration camp prisoners without remorse. “I felt a kind of sympathy for him,” Fiennes said of Goeth, talking to The New York Times shortly after the film’s release. “In a way, if you are involved in dehumanizing other people, you yourself become dehumanized.”

Fiennes was also nominated for best actor in a leading role for the 1996 film The English Patient, but he lost to Geoffrey Rush in Shine.

He Looked Like He Did When Reborn

The Dark Lord looked the same when he killed the Potters as he did when he was restored to a body. When Harry sees him, Harry sees the face that had haunted his nightmares for three years.

The thin man stepped out of the cauldron, staring at Harry and Harry stared back into the face that had haunted his nightmares for three years. – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 32

The nightmares Harry refers to are likely the ones he has of the night his parents died, meaning the Dark Lord looked the same then.

He had a gradual transition from the handsome T.M. Riddle to Voldemort, looking less human and more snakelike with each Horcrux he created. If you’re talking about the time just before accidentally making Harry into a Horcrux , he would have looked the same as he did when Harry saw him resurrected. People at the MoM who saw Voldemort in the battle at the end of OotP used their seeing him as what jolted them to the realization that Voldemort was indeed back, which would not have happened if he looked different before Halloween, 1981.

Alan Rickman Knew About Snape’s Backstory Years Before This Film

Why Voldemort Didn’t Have a Nose – Harry Potter Explained

Severus Snape has one of the most intriguing backstories, revealed in flashbacks via the Pensieve in the last act of this movie. But author JK Rowling actually told Snape actor Alan Rickman all about his character’s history years before the final movie was ever shot.

In January 2016, four days after Rickman’s death, Rowling explained that she told Rickman about the meaning behind the word “always,” a now-iconic Snape quote.

He Was A Coward By Personality

Just because he wasnt inherently rotten doesnt mean Malfoy was a braveheart. While all the fangirls on the internet would love to believe that Malfoy was secretly brave and on Harrys side, this wasnt the case.

In actuality, Malfoy was a deep coward who only hesitated to take out Dumbledore because he was scared about the consequences. He didnt rat Harry out at the Manor because he was afraid of what would happen if Voldemort arrived there. In the Battle of Hogwarts, all Malfoy did was cower like a frightened little boy.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort furthers his quest for ultimate power. He disposes of the Minister for Magic and replaces him with Pius Thicknesse, who is under the Imperius Curse. Establishing a totalitarianpolice state, he has Muggle-borns persecuted and arrested for “stealing magic” from the “pure blood” wizards. After failing to kill Harry with Draco’s father Lucius Malfoy‘s borrowed wand , he goes on a murderous search for the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand ever created, seeing it as the weapon he needs to overcome Harry’s wand and make him truly invincible. He goes on a quest that takes him out of the country to Gregorovitch‘s wand shop, where he kills the old wandmaker. His journey also takes him to Nurmengard, the prison where Gellert Grindelwald is kept, and he kills Grindelwald as well. He finally locates the Elder Wand and steals it from Dumbledore’s tomb.

Rowling stated that after his death, Voldemort is forced to exist in the stunted infant-like form that Harry sees in the King’s Cross-like Limbo after his confrontation with Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. Rowling also mentioned that, despite his extreme fear of death, he cannot become a ghost.

Harry Potter And The Half

Voldemort does not appear in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, although his presence and actions are felt: he once again declares war, and begins to rise to power once more. He murders Amelia Bones of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and begins to target members of the Order of the Phoenix, including Emmeline Vance.

Rowling uses several chapters as exposition to establish Voldemort’s backstory. In a series of flashbacks, using the pensieve as a plot device, she reveals that Voldemort was the son of the witch Merope Gaunt and a Muggle called Tom Riddle. Riddle abandoned Merope before their child’s birth, soon after which Merope died. After living in an orphanage, young Riddle met Dumbledore, who told him he was a wizard and arranged for him to attend Hogwarts. Riddle was outwardly a model student, but was in reality a psychopath who took sadistic pleasure in using his powers to harm and control people. He eventually murdered his father and grandparents as revenge for abandoning him. The book also discusses Riddle’s hatred of Muggles, his obsession with Horcruxes, and his desire to split his soul to achieve immortality. Rowling stated Voldemort’s conception under the influence of a love potion symbolises the coercive circumstances under which he was brought into the world.

Similarities To Real Life

The many faces of Lord Voldemort

Voldemort’s character draws certain parallels to three real-life dictators Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Benito Mussolini. However, J.K. Rowling uses Hitler as the bigger influence for Voldemort.

  • Prior to Voldemort and Hitler’s reign, persecutions of both Muggle-born and Jews were evident. Salazar Slytherin upheld that Muggle-borns should not attend Hogwarts while early Christians had viewed Jews as people who must never live among them.
  • It is common sense to never say Hitler greetings. Similarly, it is inappropriate to say “Voldemort”.
  • Joseph Stalin:
  • Both men had feared names during their reign.
  • On a related note, both men also created their names largely because they hated their pasts.
  • Both men also had unpleasant upbringings and started off in very modest circumstances .
  • Benito Mussolini:
  • Both also formed gangs as young boys .

    Voldemort Was Incredible At Transfiguration

Transfiguration is the art of making an object look, feel and sound like something else Just like everything else, it would seem, Voldemort is amazing at Transfiguration as well. For example, he made Nagini appear to be Bathilda Bagshot for an extended period of time just in case Harry returned to Godric’s Hollow. He also transformed Dumbledore’s fire-rope into a snake and gave Peter Pettigrew a forearm to replace the one he lost.

Canon That Makes No Sense: No Muggle Technology But Sewer Pipes Big Enough To Comfortably House A Basilisk

We’ve already discussed the lack of technology, but we need to discuss the indoor plumbing situation again. Let’s talk about the whole Heir of Slytherin thing from the Chamber of Secrets. The school was founded a huge amount of time ago and Salazar Slytherin had a basilisk in the Chamber. Okay, cool, I can get behind that, but when the basilisk is literally living in the modern day plumbing system, one has to wonder how the snake got into the pipes enough to live there, how the people installing the pipes didn’t notice the snake, and how the snake didn’t die from coming into constant contact with the waste of an entire school for at least one full year. Either way, this canon makes no sense.

Why Does Voldemort Have No Nose

Why Does Voldemort have no Nose?

The Harry Potter book and movie series are some of the most fascinating and popular of all time and will probably never be matched in terms of sales and followers. This series goes back nearly a decade and I cant see it ever really going away or dying out at all. There are way too many characters for this series to get old and so many people have latched on to at least one of each of them since the series started back in the day. One of the most important and interesting characters within the series has to be the man or creature they call Voldemort.

Voldemort is one of those classic villains that catches you off guard when you first see him and amazes you more and more as him character further develops. One of the most intriguing and confusing things about him is the fact that he doe not appear to have a nose on his face. I have always questioned why that is, but the answer is actually quite simple. As with many of the character in this series, Voldemort can change himself into a creature and his creature of choice happens to be a snake. Well, we all know that snakes do not have any visible noses on their faces, hence the nose free face that Voldemort has.

He Had A Daughter With Bellatrix Lestrange

Why It Angered Voldemort To Kill Snape

In the stage play, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” which became part of the “Harry Potter” canon in 2016 we learn that Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange had a daughter together named Delphini.

The exact date of Delphini’s birth is still a bit of a mystery, but she must have been born sometime between Bellatrix’s escape from Azkaban in “Order of the Phoenix” and the Battle of Hogwarts in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” during which both Voldemort and Bellatrix died.

Don’t Miss: Who Gives Harry Potter The Nimbus 2000

He Was Only An Average Student

Being born into a pureblood family gives you many advantages over those who didnt grow up in such conditions, but Malfoy didnt make much use of this for his studies. Not once did we ever see him stand out among the students as being good in any subject.

All we saw of him was tooting his own horn because of his familys status Malfoy had no achievements of his own. While he wasnt a por student like Crabbe and Goyle, Malfoy was nothing special and was lower in this regard to both Harry and Ron.

His Similarity To Harry Weakened His Wand

Anyone who was an avid fan of the wand selection process know that your wand’s composition is heavily dependent on your personality and how you think. Not only this but ‘the wand chooses the wizard’, meaning the likelihood of Harry and Voldemort having twin phoenix tail feathers is astronomical. This similarity shows that, at their core, Voldemort and Harry are similar people. However, this similarity does get Voldemort into trouble as these wands cannot hurt each other or their masters, causing Voldemort to use others’ wands when battling Harry.

Fanon That Makes All The Sense: Dudley Having A Magical Child

J.K. Rowling went on record to say that despite magic clearly running in Lily’s side of Harry’s family, Dudley Dursley could never have a magical child because of the total lack of magic in Vernon Dursley’s bloodline. This is a total missed opportunity. For one, the idea of Dudley’s child running around Hogwarts with his magical cousins James, Albus, and Lily, is too good to not actually happen.

For another, it really cements the total separateness between Lily and Petunia and robs Harry and Dudley of that chance to truly understand each other and repair that generational rift. There’s lots of symbolism there that the fandom picked up on, but the official material just sort of forgets about it.

The Harry Potter Meme Where Yer A Wizard

    This Cat

It may be the line that first brought the true magic of Harry Potter to life in The Sorcerers Stone, but its also often misquoted. Strangely enough, its that version that has become a meme.

After the pivotal moment that is Rubeus Hagrid bursting through the door of the Hut-on-the-Rock to deliver Harrys Hogwarts acceptance letter and discovering that the Dursleys have never told Harry about his magical lineage, the line Hogwarts gentle giant groundskeeper actually says is, Harry yer a wizard.

In meme form, Harrys name generally appears at the end of the quote instead. And Hagrid is generally telling Harry that hes something other than a wizard.

The Yer a wizard, Harry reaction gif is also employed to inform someone when theyre stating the obvious.
