The third installment of this franchise takes place many years after the events of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. On this occasion, Professor Dumbledore seeks for Newt Scamanders help to stop Gellert Grindelwald, who continues to add followers to his evil cause of taking control of the wizarding world. Newt then recruits a team of wizards and witches to face against Grindelwalds growing army as his power increases to alarming levels.
No Magic Wand To Fix ‘fantastic Beasts’ Scandals
While Harry Potter movies were exceptionally successful, its no secret that the Fantastic Beasts films have been riddled with controversy, including J.K. Rowling going from being a literary icon to being called out for her transphobic rhetoric.
While there had also been pushback from fans that Albus Dumbledores sexuality was never mentioned in the franchise, and his romantic relationship with Grindelwald. It was reported this week that Warner Bros. accepted requested changes from China to cut six seconds of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which refer to the romance between the two characters.
Scandal specific to Fantastic Beasts also includes the fall of Johnny Depp, who played Grindelwald in the first two films, but was forced to leave the franchise after he sued The Sun for libel following the tabloid calling him a wife beater in a 2018 article, and Depp lost the case.
Who Is In Fantastic Beasts 3’s Cast
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore features a number of returning cast members, as well as some new additions. The cast for the movie includes Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, , William Nadylam, Poppy Corby-Tuech, Jessica Williams, Fiona Glascott, Victoria Yeates, and Jude Law.
New cast members include Oliver Masucci, Richard Coyle, Dave Wong, and . Additionally, Mads Mikkelsen will be taking over as Gellert Grindelwald, replacing Johnny Depp.

He may share a relationship with Queenie and Jacob Kowalski , given the three share the same surname. At the end of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Jacob and Queenie get married, and even though their marriage violates Rappaport’s Law, previously established in the first Fantastic Beasts film. While it’s not established whether Jacob and Queenie have any children, it’s an easy assumption to make, given the two of them share a lot of love for each other and the world around them. While still unconfirmed, Quentin Kowalski may indeed be apart of Queenie’s and Jacob’s ending after all following their Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore coda.

The latest Harry Potter prequel is struggling to cast a spell on audiences.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore debuted with an underwhelming $43 million at the domestic box office, the lowest opening for a movie set in the Wizarding World.
The previous low point was the film’s predecessor, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which opened with $62 million in 2018. The Crimes of Grindelwald also earned the weakest reviews of any Harry Potter movie, raising the question of whether the franchise could course correct.
Since then, Fantastic Beasts has faced a seemingly endless series of controversies. Johnny Depp was asked to step down over allegations of domestic abuse, and series star Ezra Miller was arrested for disorderly conduct shortly before The Secrets of Dumbledore‘s premiere. J.K. Rowling, who writes the Fantastic Beasts movies, has also become a controversial figure due to her tweets about transgender people that have been denounced by the franchise’s cast, including Eddie Redmayne.
Critics generally saw The Secrets of Dumbledore as a moderate improvement. But it still received mixed-to-negative reviews overall, and moviegoers gave it the same B+ rating as The Crimes of Grindelwald, according to CinemaScore. The original Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them earned far stronger reviews, nabbing an A CinemaScore and opening with $74 million in 2016.

Dumbledores Conflict With The Ministry Of Magic
Meet young Dumbledore. At this time, Dumbledore is the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. We see him teach a class on Boggarts that closely parallels the lesson Professor Remus Lupin gave Harry and his classmates decades later.
Fans find out that Dumbledores uneasy relationship with the wizarding government began early in the professors Hogwarts career. Officials from the Ministry of Magic interrupt the class to confront Dumbledore: they allege that hes working against them by sending Newt Scamander to America and then Paris to protect Credence, an Obscurial, from Grindelwald.
When Dumbledore evades their questions, they forbid him from continuing to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts. A boy named McLaggen comes to Dumbledores defense, saying hes the best teacher theyve had.

Has the latest ‘Harry Potter’ franchise spin-off lost its magic touch?
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore got off to a less-than-enchanted start in its first weekend in US and Canadian theaters. The third installment in the Harry Potter spinoff opened to $43 million in North America, according to studio estimates.
It was enough to secure the film the top spot on the box office charts, but its also a low for the franchise.
The first film had a $74.4 million debut in 2016 and the second, The Crimes of Grindelwald opened to $62.2 million in 2018. The Secrets of Dumbledore, which Warner Bros. released in 4,208 locations in North America, also carries a $200 million production price tag.
Its more common than not for sequels and threequels to come in lower than their predecessors, but Dumbledore also follows several franchise titles that defied that logic, including Spider-Man: No Way Home,Venom 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
The eight Harry Potter films were responsible for over $7.7 billion at the box office, while the first two Fantastic Beasts films made $1.5 billion total.
This installment stars Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Ezra Miller and Mads Mikkelsen, who replaced Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. In November 2020, following Depps failed libel case against The Sun tabloid newspaper for an article that labeled him a wife beater, the actor said Warner Bros. asked him to step down and that he agreed.

I remember going to this in theaters in 2001 and being blown away the first time I saw Hogwarts on the big screen. The wonderful feeling of magic and the joy it presents permeate this movie. There are so many memorable moments, including the first train ride to Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat scene, the Quidditch match, the troll in the dungeon and of course the trials the trio go through in the end. If you ever want to feel like a kid again, this is one of the best films to do so.

The box office numbers are in, and they are not so good for the newest Wizarding World film.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore opened this weekend in the US, and it a broke a record–but not the record that Warner Bros. would have wanted. The film earned $43 million over its opening weekend in the US, which is the lowest of all time for any Harry Potter film.
The 2016 Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them made $74 million over its opening weekend in the US. The 2018 sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald, earned $62 million for its opening weekend.
According to Deadline, there are “no immediate, concrete plans” for any further Harry Potter franchise content for film or TV. This is no surprise, as a previous report said a fourth Fantastic Beasts film was not a guarantee and would depend on how well The Secrets of Dumbledore performed at the box office.
Whether or not the slow start for The Secrets of Dumbledore is enough for Warner Bros. to put the film series on hiatus is unknown, though Deadline said there is currently no script for a fourth film. A Harry Potter spinoff series for HBO Max was also discussed as an idea, but it’s unknown if this is moving forward.
Box office comparisons are never perfect or complete, and that’s especially true given the impact of the pandemic. But still, looking at the wider Harry Potter universe, The Secrets of Dumbledore ranked lowest for its domestic opening weekend by far. You can see the full rankings below.

Pandemic Delays May Have Played A Part Too
Filming on the new Fantastic Beasts film had been due to start in March 2020 with an intended release of November 2021. But then COVID-19 struck and production was rescheduled to September.
When Depp left and Mikkelsen joined in November 2020, Warner Bros. announced it was rescheduling the release for July 2022. Last September, it was pulled forward to April, but that still meant it had been 3½ years between releases.

Studios put a lot of thought into release dates, planning marketing strategies around other films releases, school holidays and awards seasons. They also hope to maintain and capitalise on a franchises momentum.
The question for Fantastic Beasts now, as it contends with Sonic the Hedgehog 2, is if it has left its run too late and does it risk falling between the gap of being too young for nostalgic Millennials and too old for kids?

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a 2016 fantasy film directed by David Yates and written by J.K. Rowling. It is the first instalment in the Fantastic Beasts film series and the ninth overall in the Wizarding World franchise, serving as a spin-off of and prequel to the Harry Potter film series, inspired by the 2001 guide book of the same name by Rowling. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo, Ron Perlman, and Colin Farrell.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them premiered in New York City on 10 November 2016 and opened in theatres worldwide on 18 November 2016 in 2D, 3D, 4D, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX formats, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It received generally positive reviews from critics and emerged a commercial success after grossing $814 million worldwide, making it the eighth highest-grossing film of 2016.
Dumbledores Obsession With Obscurials
Dumbledore seems to have a more comprehensive knowledge of Obscurials than most wizards. A quick recap for those who have forgotten: Dumbledores sister Ariana was abused by some local Muggle boys who saw her casting magic when she was young. Ariana became sick afterward, suppressing her magic only to let it out in dangerous bursts.
Dumbledores father attacked the Muggles who hurt Ariana, and he was imprisoned in Azkaban. He never told anyone of Arianas problem, fearing that if he used that as a defense, the Ministry would take Ariana away from the family. Many fans now theorize that she was an Obscurial.
Dumbledores mother was later killed in an accident caused by Ariana, and Dumbledore became guardian to Ariana and his brother Aberforth. It was during that time stuck at home that Dumbledore met Grindelwald. The two exchanged ideas and plotted a new world order in which wizards ruled Muggles for the greater good.
The two planned to search for the Deathly Hallows together in order to achieve this goal, but when Aberforth confronted them, the three dueled, accidentally killing Ariana. Grindelwald fled, Dumbledore overcome by guilt realized the error in his thinking about Muggle rule and spent the rest of his life trying to defend innocents against dark magic.

Where To Watch Fantastic Beasts Movies Online
Similar to the Harry Potter series, the Fantastic Beasts movies can be watched online in time for the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Both films can be streamed on either HBO Max or Peacock Premium. They can also be rented on-demand on YouTube, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, or Vudu.
Fantastic Beasts 3 4 And 5 Release Dates: When Is Fantastic Beasts 3 Released
Long story short, Fantastic Beasts 3 will be released in UK cinemas on and in US cinemas a week later on .
The film was first set for a November 12, 2021 release, but the pandemic saw the start of production delayed. After Depp’s resignation the movie was pushed back to July 2022.
After another production delay in early February 2021, filming wrapped later that month according to composer James Newton Howard: “I know that David Yates has finished shooting, and I’m chomping at the bit to get going.”
Now with Warner Bros moving it forward to April 2022, hopefully that’ll be the final move as it seems unlikely they’d announce an earlier release date if they weren’t confident they could make it.
The fourth and fifth movies have never had release dates, but we originally assumed we could expect them in November 2022 and November 2024, which now definitely won’t be the case.
However, we’re still not 100% sure we’ll get the originally planned five Fantastic Beasts movies, and the box office performance of Secrets of Dumbledore will go a long way to see if we get another movie.
Assuming they do happen though, don’t expect a fourth movie anytime before 2024.
