Why Does Dumbledore Want Snape To Kill Him

Why Dumbledore Pleaded with Snape Before Death – Harry Potter Explained

Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him so that hed be spared the indignity and pain that were sure to follow. To save Draco: At the same time, Dumbledore knew that Voldemort had ordered Draco to kill Dumbledore, not because he thought Draco could possibly succeed, but to punish both him and his family.

Why Is Sirius Black In Azkaban

Sirius was arrested by the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and sentenced by Barty Crouch Snr to life imprisonment in Azkaban without a trial for thirteen counts of murder with the curse, giving the information about the Potters whereabouts which lead to their death and service to Lord Voldemort.

Yes Dumbledore Did Ask Snape To Kill Him So Draco Wouldnt

Dumbledore did indeed ask Snape to kill him, so that Draco wouldnt either succeed and maim his own soul, or more likely fail and be killed by the Dark Lord for his almost inevitable failure.

All the same, try. I am concerned less for myself than for accidental victims of whatever schemes might occur to the boy. Ultimately, of course, there is only one thing to be done if we are to save him from Lord Voldemorts wrath.

Snape raised his eyebrows and his tone was sardonic as he asked, Are you intending to let him kill you?

Certainly not. You must kill me. – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Chapter 33

Dumbledore didnt want Draco to do it and harm his soul, but he also didnt want to die at the hands of someone who would prolong his death and make it more painful. He preferred that Snape kill him quickly, and since it was done as an act of mercy, Snapes soul would remain intact.

Its clear that Dumbledore did both ask and expect Snape to kill him, and this was always his plan.

After you have killed me, Severus

You refuse to tell me everything, yet you expect that small service of me! snarled Snape, and real anger flared in the thin face now. – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Chapter 33

So yes, Dumbledore did indeed ask Snape to kill him to spare Draco the Dark Lords wrath or a maimed soul because of Dracos own attempts to kill Dumbledore.

When Snape Killed Dumbledore

In probably the most shocking twist of the series, Snape cast the unforgivable Avada Kedavra curse on Hogwarts beloved headmaster. For those whod questioned Snapes loyalty, this was the moment that seemed to finally reveal his true colours. You know, killing one of the most beloved wizards of all time and all that.

What nobody understood was that Snape had no choice nobody, that is, except Dumbledore himself. Aware of his impending death from cursed ring, together with the knowledge that Voldemort had recruited Draco Malfoy as an assassin, Dumbledore prepared Snape for the awful task.

Dracos future would have been cut abruptly short if hed failed to commit the murder, or taken a very dark turn had he succeeded. In fulfilling his duty, Snape managed to save a boys soul.

Snape’s Legacy Lives On

Why did Dumbledore plead with Snape? Why did Dumbledore ...

After giving his life to defeat Voldemort, Harry is able to return to the realm of the living and face Voldemort one last time, and as the true master of the Elder Wand, he brings the Dark Lord down for good. In the aftermath of the battle, Harry gets the chance to live out his life, get married, and have children, and his second youngest son, Albus Severus, carries on Snape’s legacy, especially as Harry tells his son that he named him for two of the bravest men he’d ever met.

Ultimately, Albus Severus as detailed in the Tony Award-winning play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is sorted into Slytherin just like one of this two namesakes, eventually becoming close friends with Scorpius Malfoy and setting off on a time-bending adventure befitting his father and both of the men for whom he was named. Snape may have been a villain throughout his life, but Harry made sure to remember him as a hero.

Dumbledore’s Death was pre-arranged by Dumbledore and Snape back in The Half-Blood Prince :

Snape had to kill Dumbledore. Firstly, because it was an act of mercy for Dumbledore, as he was already dying, first from the curse he received when he put on the Gaunt ring, and second when he drank the potion from the cave with the locket horcrux. That’s what Dumbledore means when he says “Severus. Please.”.

Snape also had to kill Dumbledore to remain a trusted Death Eater, and Voldemort’s right hand. He needed to be a double agent in Voldemort’s ranks in order to be able to help Harry & Co on their quest, such as when he sent his doe Patronus to the lake where he hid the sword of Godric Gryffindor.

As to how Snape became a double agent – it was after Voldemort had become determined to kill Harry as an infant, thus endangering his mother, Lily, whom Snape love since they were children.

Snape begged Dumbledore to protect Lily however, Lily still died. Snape continued to serve Dumbledore as a double agent to honour her memory , which was living in her son

Why Did Dumbledore Trust Snape So Much

Dumbledores relationship with Snape was open and close but he didnt trust Snape completely. Snape felt responsible for Harry Potters mother, for her death caused by Lord Voldemort. He had no one else to turn to, except Dumbledore, to keep Lily safe.

This was the right reason and a proper time for Dumbledore to take advantage of Snapes sense of guilt and initiated him into the Order of the Phoenix.

So, Snape became a double agent. As a spy for the Order of the Phoenix, he continuously updated Dumbledore about the movements and acts of the Death Eaters.

On the other hand, Snape did a great job in the role of Lord Voldemorts spy, supplying him with all of the information about the Order. He provided only the information received from Dumbledore.

As we said before, Dumbledores confidence in Snape was not unconditional. Dumbledore did not fully trust Snape to reduce any damage that could occur if Snape was somehow compromised.

Snape did not like Dumbledores secrecy and was offended by his lack of faith in his abilities. What bothered him the most is the fact he had been used in Harry Potters destruction, whose mother was the love of his life.

After the Marvolo Gaunts curse and the agreement he made with Snape to kill him, Dumbledore finally granted him the post of the future Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts.

When Harry Thought Snape Ignored His Message About Sirius

Why Snape’s Avada Kedavra Was BLUE When He Killed Dumbledore – Harry Potter Theory

Hes got Padfoot at the place where its hidden!Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harrys cryptic warning about the safety of Sirius seemed to fall on selectively deaf ears. But Snape, an Order of the Phoenix member, must have understood the code, right? Say what you will about the Potions master, we can all agree that he was no fool. So why didnt he heed Harrys warning?

Did Snape despise Sirius so much that hed let him be tortured and killed? Of course not, but under no circumstances could they have brought that up in front of Dolores Umbridge. Unbeknown to Harry, Snape made contact once the students left with Umbridge and they ought to have returned to the news that good old Snuffles was safe and sound. Tragically, things didnt go as planned and Sirius left Grimmauld Place to fight alongside the Order, losing his life in the fray.

Whether it was for ignoring his message or for goading Sirius earlier on, Harry partially blamed Snape for his godfathers death. Perhaps it was easier than facing the pain of his loss.

How Did Snape Feel About Killing Dumbledore

Why Did Snape Kill Dumbledore?

Snape was angry at Dumbledore for being tempted by the Ring, knowing it contained a curse.

Actually, he didnt want to kill Dumbledore but he had to do it. Firstly, because he had to keep a promise he had given Dumbledore earlier. As well, it was an act of mercy, as Dumbledore was already dying, from the curse he received because of the Ring.

So, Snape killed Dumbledore but he didnt cause his death. The curse and the potion did it. Nobody forced Dumbledore to put on the Ring neither to drink the potion.

Dumbledore caused his own death and Snape just finished his life.

Snapes motivation was merciful, intending to spare Dumbledore from a humiliating and painful death in the future.

The Battle of the Astronomy Tower and the death of Albus Dumbledore had a major impact on the wizarding world. The only wizard Lord Voldemort had ever feared and who had the power to oppose him was finally dead. The battle showed that there was no longer a place safe from the Death Eaters, as one of the Hogwarts students allowed them to enter and one of the teachers betrayed the school. Teachers were unsure if the school would remain open, so some parents dropped their children out of Hogwarts.

Unfortunately, this one was a little bit sad topic to write about .

Why Was Dumbledore Already Dying

He was already dying because of the curse of the Marvolo Gaunts ring.

Marvolo Gaunts Ring was the inheritance of Salazar Slytherin and Cadmus Peverell. It was a gold ring inset with a black stone, which was actually the Resurrection Stone, the symbol of the Deathly Hallows.

For years, the signet ring had passed from father to son until Tom Riddle stole it from Morfin Gaunt , and framed him for murders of the Riddle family.

As the only heir, Tom Riddle decided to make the Ring into his second Horcrux, instead of wearing it. Tom placed a powerful curse upon the Ring anyone who dared to wear it, would have been killed at once.

When Dumbledore found the Marvolo Gaunts Ring, he immediately recognized it as the Resurrection Stone, one of the Deathly Hallows. Wishing to use it to redeem his family and make amends for his past mistakes, Dumbledore put on the Ring. It began to take effect almost immediately and nearly killed him.

Thanks to his amazing skills, he had been able to contain the curse from spreading any further. Anyone else in his place would die instantly.

Dumbledore returned to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to find Snape. As the Potion Master, Severus was able to manage this issue, with a thick golden potion and a few incantations. As well, he didnt miss to rebuke Dumbledore for his act that kind of wizard must not be foolish in any way.

Besides the Ring, another thing that contributed to Dumbledores death.

Snape Was One Of Slughorn’s Favorite Students When He Was At Hogwarts

Snape was a Slytherin when he was at Hogwarts, and like many students in that house, he excelled at Potions, the Dark Arts, and Charms.

Professor Slughorn, his Potions Master, was very fond of both Snape and Lily, so they were both likely a part of his elite student group, the Slug Club. However, it’s never clearly mentioned in the books, probably because Slughorn only liked to show off the students he was most proud of.

The professor questioned Snape’s loyalty, especially after he killed Dumbledore, so he likely wouldn’t have highlighted him even if he was one of his favorite students back in the day.

Harry Potter And The Half

In the second chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy visit Snape at his home in Spinner’s End. Narcissa’s son Draco has been given a difficult task by Voldemort, and Narcissa swears Snape to an Unbreakable Vow that he will protect Draco, help him complete Voldemort’s task, and finish the task himself if Draco fails. When questioned by Bellatrix about his loyalties, Snape says he has been working for Voldemort ever since Voldemort’s return, and explains his actions in the previous books in that light. He points out that gaining Dumbledore’s trust and protection has kept him out of Azkaban and free to operate on Voldemort’s behalf.

Later, during a fight with Draco, Harry casts one of the Prince’s spells marked “For Enemies,” and is horrified by the devastating wounds it inflicts to Draco’s face and chest. Snape rushes to the scene and heals Draco, then interrogates Harry regarding the spell, using Legilimency to extract the source of Harry’s knowledge from Harry’s mind. When Snape insists that Harry show him his Potions textbook, Harry hides the Prince’s book and gives him Ron Weasley‘s book instead. As punishment for the attack and knowing Harry is lying about the textbook, Snape assigns Harry detention during the final Quidditch match of the year.

A Divide Grows Between Two Childhood Friends

Why Snape Agreed to an Unbreakable Vow (and to Kill Dumbledore) – Harry Potter Explained

Upon their shared arrival at Hogwarts, Lily is furious at Snape for sabotaging her relationship with her sister, and matters only get worse from there. At the Sorting Ceremony, Lily is sorted into Gryffindor, while Snape ends up in Slytherin, ensuring that the two friends are separated for their entire tenure at Hogwarts.

While Snape and Lily try to remain close despite their differences, Lily disapproves of Snape’s friends all of whom later become Death Eaters under Voldemort while Snape can’t stand James Potter, one of Gryffindor’s most popular students, who’s clearly carrying a torch for Lily. It’s especially bad since James has a penchant for bullying Snape. Though Lily assures her friend that she can’t stand James, an altercation with the young bully ends in nastiness when Snape calls Lily a “Mudblood,” a horrible slur referring to Muggle-borns … and it effectively ends their friendship forever.

Though Snape begs for her forgiveness, particularly because Lily was defending him against James, he can’t justify hurting Lily, and she gives up on him for good.

Why Did Severus Have To Kill Dumbledore

I know that one of reasons is that Malfoy would be killed by voldemort but if they helped dumbledore to survive they could help Malfoy as well.Voldemort couldn’t kill harry because he was hiding so they could hide Malfoy as well. And severus didnt need to be in voldemort’s favor. They could just all survive.

I’m not an expert on ths as many are, but I recall that the curse of the ring was already killing Dumbledore. I thought that Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him.

As Aslan said, Dumbledore had already put the horcrux ring on, out of a desire to see his family–he had guessed that the horcrux was in fact the resurrection stone that is, one of the deathly hallows. Meanwhile, Dumbledore had asked Snape to spy on Voldemort for him by pretending to become a death eater and spying for Voldemort. This was quite feasable since Snape was a teacher at Hogwarts and so could easily “spy” on Dumbledore. Therefore, and we see this in the scene where Snape was trying to keep the ring’s curse from spreading, Dumbledore asked Snape to personally kill him when the time was right to:

-Prevent Draco from having to commit murder.

-Ensure that Snape enters Voldemort’s inner circle easily

-As a side bonus, Dumbledore would be saved from the slow and painful death the curse would cause in the future.
