Harry, Ron, and Hermione return to Hogwarts for their second year, but a mysterious chamber, hidden in the school, is opened leaving students and ghosts petrified by an unknown agent. They must solve the mystery of the chamber, and discover its entrance to find and defeat the true culprit.
Columbus and Kloves returned as director, and screenwriter for the film adaptation of Chamber of Secrets. Just three days after the wide release of the first film, production began on 19 November 2001 in Surrey, England, with filming continuing on location on the Isle of Man and at several other locations in Great Britain. Leavesden Film Studios in London made several scenes for Hogwarts. Principal photography concluded in the summer of 2002. The film spent until early October in post-production. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets premiered in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2002 before its wide release on 15 November, one year after the Philosopher’s Stone.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter movies, told The Hollywood Reporter, A version of Cursed Child with Dan, Rupert, and Emma at the right age, its cinematic bliss. After seeing a Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Londons West End, Columbus said, To be able to actually see these adult actors now back in these roles? Oh yeah. It would be amazingly fun to make that film or two films.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the franchise and the first installment adapted to the stage. The events take place 19 years after the final novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Released in theaters two decades ago, on Nov. 14, 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was the first of an eventual eight-film franchise based on Rowlings seven-book saga about a young wizard attending the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The film which just last year surpassed $1 billion at the global box office after a 4K rerelease in China and other markets would not only launch the careers of then-newcomers Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry, Ron and Hermione but spawn franchise spinoffs Fantastic Beasts and a Broadway play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, based on an original story by Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne.
To mark the films 20th anniversary, Warner Bros. will debut two new Potter-inspired TV projects: a four-part competition series, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of House, hosted by Helen Mirren and a retrospective special to follow.
Columbus, 63, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and took a trip down Hogwarts memory lane, reflecting on his approach to adapting Rowlings source material, working with Radcliffe, Watson and Grint, why he eventually left the franchise, and why hed return to direct a Cursed Child adaptation.

When my mum announced we were going to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the West End, it felt almost as magical as when I was given the first movie as a Christmas present.
But I was anxious to see how its plot would fold out on stage. I remember reading the screenplay for Cursed Child, written by Jack Thorne, the day it came out after buying it from my local Waterstones.
Like most fans, I wasnt very happy with the plot. However, as a theatre fan as well as a Potter fan, I appreciate the way a production can transform a story into something you might not have first imagined when reading.

The Director Says The Actors Are Just About The Right Age To Star In An Adaptation
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint haven’t reprised their roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley for a decade now, but the director of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Chris Columbus, wants to bring the gang back together for one more ride.
Speaking to Variety, Columbus said he would love to work on a movie adaptation of The Cursed Child, a 2016 Harry Potter play that takes place 19 years after the final book in the series ends.
“I would love to direct ‘The Cursed Child,'” Columbus said. “Its a great play and the kids are actually the right age to play those roles. Its a small fantasy of mine.”
Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint are all in their early 30s, making them about the right age to play Harry, Ron, and Hermione on the big screen once again for this story. The Cursed Child focuses on Harry and Draco Malfoy’s children, with the original heroes serving as supporting characters. The play was a big hit on Broadway, setting records when it opened in 2018.

Columbus directed 2001’s The Sorcerer’s Stone and 2002’s sequel, The Chamber of Secrets. He also served as producer on Prisoner of Azkaban. David Yates took over directing duties for the final four Harry Potter movies, and also directed the first two Fantastic Beasts movies.
Yates is next helming The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third movie in the Fantastic Beasts spinoff series set to be released next year.

Could Harry Potter & The Cursed Child Happen
While J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros. have both denied that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would ever be adapted for the big screen in the past, Kilar’s remarks rekindled old rumors. Taking into account that the play is shown in two parts because of its length, many argue that a movie version of Harry Potter in the Cursed Child wouldn’t really work and might it be better adapted in a TV show format. It so happens that the studio has announced a call for writers for a potential spinoff show set in the world of Harry Potter.

When Is Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Coming Out
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set for release in hardback on Sunday, July 31.
Its the eighth book in the Harry Potter series and, rather than being in standard novel format, is based on the rehearsal script for the new stage play.
The West End production, written by Rowling with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, is already running at the Palace Theatre in London and has its world premiere there on Saturday, July 30.
The play is in two parts, which can be watched on the same day or on different nights.
Harry Potter Hbo Max Series
In addition to Fantastic Beasts 3 there is reportedly another Harry Potter project in the works, instead of taking a theatrical route, this one if it actually pans out will be coming to HBO Max in the form of a television series. In January 2021, The Hollywood Reporter released a report stating that very early discussions were happening for a live-action series set within the Harry Potter universe, but there has been no word as to what the story will be about or even a confirmation from Warner Bros, who has denied that any Harry Potter TV show is currently in development at the studio or HBO Max

The original cast of the Harry Potter series will be reunited 20 years after the first film was released.
An HBO Max special titled Return to Hogwarts will be released on 1 January 2022, the network has said.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will join American film-maker Chris Columbus to discuss the films and explore their creation in depth.
The excitement is palpable as they prepare to take their fans on a very special and personal journey, through the making of these incredible films.
It comes as Radcliffe told a BBC documentary, also marking 20 years since the first film, of his joy that many people watch the Harry Potter films when they are hungover.
The 32-year-old said: The time in most peoples lives when they discovered it meant that it has an incredibly important place in a lot peoples childhoods, and they still feel very protective over it.
One of my favourite fates that we could never have ever imagined for the Harry Potter films but that I have been told by several friends is that they are fantastic when people are hungover and feeling really crappy about themselves.
They will just watch back-to-back a few movies and it just takes them to a place of warmth and comfort.
That is so lovely to me. That is the real-world effect that a film can have on someones life. I think that is great.

The Cursed Child Story
Set 19 years later after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child shows Harry, Ron and Hermione as 37-year-old parents who are seeing their children off to Hogwarts. The play continues Harry Potters story through his son, Albus, following Albus Severus Potter as he uncovers secrets from his fathers past in a time-travel adventure. On top of the original set of characters, the play also features Draco Malfoys son Scorpius, Hermione and Rons daughter Rose, as well as Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestranges surprise offspring Delphi. The time-travel aspect of the play could make for a very engaging movie or TV series, both for new and old, loyal audiences by exploring much of the original story through a fresh lens.
