Price Wars And Other Controversies
Asda, along with several other UK supermarkets, having already taken pre-orders for the book at a heavily discounted price, sparked a price war two days before the book’s launch by announcing they would sell it for just £5 a copy. Other retail chains then also offered the book at discounted prices. At these prices the book became a loss leader. This caused uproar from traditional UK booksellers who argued they had no hope of competing in those conditions. Independent shops protested loudest, but even Waterstone’s, the UK’s largest dedicated chain bookstore, could not compete with the supermarket price. Some small bookstores hit back by buying their stock from the supermarkets rather than their wholesalers. Asda attempted to counter this by imposing a limit of two copies per customer to prevent bulk purchases. Philip Wicks, a spokesman for the UK Booksellers Association, said, “It is a war we can’t even participate in. We think it’s a crying shame that the supermarkets have decided to treat it as a loss-leader, like a can of baked beans.” Michael Norris, an analyst at Simba Information, said: “You are not only lowering the price of the book. At this point, you are lowering the value of reading.”

Professor Slughorn Jim Broadbent
Jim Broadbent was a late edition to the Harry Potter cast, first appearing in Half-Blood Prince, but he certainly made his mark in a short time. The prominent roles continued after Potter, where Broadbent was cast in films such as The Iron Lady, Cloud Atlas, Brooklyn, the Paddington films, and a return as Dad in Bridget Joness Baby. He also managed to snag a role on Game of Thrones before the series end, as Archmaester Ebrose of the Citadel.

In later years, he is shown gaining more confidence as he joins the others in their battle against the rise of Voldemort and becomes an important member of Dumbledores Army. Neville also took part in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, the Battle of Hogwarts, and killed Voldemorts most precious Horcrux Nagini.
What Wand Does Grindelwald Have
Though nobody speaks of the Elder Wand in this film, Grindelwald presumably already wields the most powerful wand in existence. According to Rowlings timeline, Grindelwald steals the Elder Wand from wand maker Gregorovitch sometime between 1900 and 1926, before the events of Fantastic Beasts. Grindelwald presumably used the wand of Graves when he was disguised as that wizard in the last film. Now, he has reunited with his old wand, which helps explain the power he wields in the graveyard scene at the end of the film.

Viktor Krum Stanislav Ianevski
Hermiones first boyfriend was played by Stanislav Yanevski in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He filmed scenes with Emma Watson for Bill and Fleurs wedding in Deathly Hallows: Part 1, but this scene was cut from the film. After Potter, Yanevski has had a quiet career in the film and tv industry, but he is set to attend LeakyCon Orlando this summer.

Rowling On Finishing The Book

Rowling completed the book while staying at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh in January 2007, and left a signed statement on a marble bust of Hermes in her room which read: “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 January 2007”. In a statement on her website, she said, “I’ve never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric.” She compared her mixed feelings to those expressed by Charles Dickens in the preface of the 1850 edition of David Copperfield, “a two-years’ imaginative task”. “To which,” she added, “I can only sigh, try seventeen years, Charles”. She ended her message by saying “Deathly Hallows is my favourite, and that is the most wonderful way to finish the series”.

Deathly Hallows Casting News: Ciaran Hinds To Play Aberforth Dumbledore More On Nick Moran
We have some more big casting news today regarding Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.TLC can report that Ciaran Hinds has been cast in the role of AberforthDumbledore in the final installments of the Harry Potter film series. While not yet officially confirmed with WB, we believe this to be correct. Speaking with reps for the actor, we were told expectations and hopes certainly are that Ciaran Hinds will be taking on the role of helpful Order of the Phoenix member in the final Harry Potter films. A widely acclaimed actor, Ciaran Hinds has appeared in such films as Munich, There Will be Blood, Road to Perdition, Persuasion, Hallam Foe, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, and most recently voiced a part in the film The Tale of Despereaux with Emma Watson and Robbie Coltrane . Well known to TV audiences for his appearance in the hit HBO series, Rome, Ciaran Hinds once starred in a film called The Cook The Thief His Wife & Her Lover, which also co-starred Michael Gambon, who of course portrays Albus Dumbledore, the brother of Aberforth. Please note: For those who have asked, actor Jim McManus appeared in as the Barman at the Hogshead in OotP, where the character of Aberforth works. As WB does not normally comment on rumors such as this casting and others, we continue to wait for a formal release confirming and addressing all the casting for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Richard Harris As Dumbledore
Although there are still plenty of Harry Potter fans who prefer Richard Harris’ depiction of the Hogwarts headmaster, the role was recast ahead of the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, after the two-time Oscar winner passed away in 2002 from Hodgkin’s disease. Harris had expected that he might not be able to carry the character, which he took to please his granddaughter, to its cinematic end. He told the press, “I’ll keep doing it as long as I enjoy it, my health holds out and they still want me, but the chances of all three of those factors remaining constant are pretty slim.”
The part would eventually go to Michael Gambon, who starred in all six of the films to follow, but he wasn’t the first major British star who was invited to don the heaping wig and decadent cloaks. Years after the fact, Sir Ian McKellen revealed that he, too, had a shot at becoming Albus Dumbledore but turned it down. He later explained on BBC’s;HARDtalk,;”When they called me up and said would I be interested in being in the Harry Potter films, they didn’t say in what part. I worked out what they were thinking, and I couldn’t take over the part from an actor who I’d known didn’t approve of me.” Harris was reportedly unimpressed with McKellen during his life, implying that he was a “passionless” actor. Even so, though, McKellen added that he sometimes saw himself in the posters of Gambon as Dumbledore.
Dumbledore At One Point Possessed All Three Deathly Hallows
From Dumbledores letters to Grindelwald in Deathly Hallows, it is obvious that the headmaster of Hogwarts was obsessed with the idea of the Hallows in his youth. It seems fitting then that he should become the only character besides Harry to have owned all three at some point in his life. After winning the Elder Wand in his famous duel with Grindelwald, he came into possession of James Potters cloak after borrowing it to study, and kept it safe to give to Harry when he was old enough, meaning that it was in his possession for about a decade. He also came to own the Resurrection Stone, though it came with terrible consequences when he attempted to wield its power and fatally cursed himself.

He Didnt Really See Socks In The Mirror Of Erised
After Dumbledore told Harry he saw himself with a nice pair of socks when looking into the Mirror of Erised, Harry later reflected that he might have been lying, but that it was a rather nosy thing to ask:

After it was revealed that Dumbledore was devastated by the accidental death of his sister during a fight with Grindelwald and his brother, Aberforth, it became clear that Dumbledores deepest desire, and regret, involved his family. J.K. Rowling confirmed this after the final novel, revealing that when Dumbledore looks into the mirror he sees his family alive, whole and happy Ariana, Percival and Kendra all returned to him, and Aberforth reconciled to him. Dumbledores Obsession With Obscurials
Dumbledore seems to have a more comprehensive knowledge of Obscurials than most wizards. A quick recap for those who have forgotten: Dumbledores sister Ariana was abused by some local Muggle boys who saw her casting magic when she was young. Ariana became sick afterward, suppressing her magic only to let it out in dangerous bursts.
Dumbledores father attacked the Muggles who hurt Ariana, and he was imprisoned in Azkaban. He never told anyone of Arianas problem, fearing that if he used that as a defense, the Ministry would take Ariana away from the family. Many fans now theorize that she was an Obscurial.
Dumbledores mother was later killed in an accident caused by Ariana, and Dumbledore became guardian to Ariana and his brother Aberforth. It was during that time stuck at home that Dumbledore met Grindelwald. The two exchanged ideas and plotted a new world order in which wizards ruled Muggles for the greater good.
The two planned to search for the Deathly Hallows together in order to achieve this goal, but when Aberforth confronted them, the three dueled, accidentally killing Ariana. Grindelwald fled, Dumbledore overcome by guilt realized the error in his thinking about Muggle rule and spent the rest of his life trying to defend innocents against dark magic.

Chapter Eleven: The Bribe
While they wait for Kreachers return, Death Eaters have started taking up watch outside Grimmauld Place. Lupin shows up to give them news of what happened after the wedding, and theyre all really glad to see someone from the Order. Lupin doesnt bring much good news, however. The Death Eaters now have the full might of the Ministry behind them now that the Minister is dead, and rumors are being spread that Harry is wanted for questioning in Dumbledores death.
He also tells them that the Ministry, which is now really headed by Voldemort, is rounding up Muggle-borns and making them register. If they cant prove they have at least one close wizard relative, theyre being punished for stealing magic.
Lupin also asks them if he can go with them on their mission. Harry wants to know why hed volunteer to go away when he and Tonks just got married, and Lupin tells them that shes also expecting a baby. When Harry finds this out, hes outraged that Lupin would ditch his wife and kid to go off with them. They get into a huge argument about it, and Lupin tells them that he regrets marrying Tonks and regrets having a kid because now theyre all going to be outcasts because hes a werewolf.
Lupin leaves suddenly when Harry calls him a coward, and then Harry feels really guilty for laying into him like that. Still, he reasons, if it makes Lupin go back to Tonks, it will be worth it.
Richard Harris To Michael Gambon
This particular change applies only to the movie version of Albus Dumbledore. In;Sorcerer’s Stone and;Chamber of Secrets, the character of Dumbledore is played by actor Richard Harris. In every film subsequent to those two, actor Michael Gambon takes on the role. Both actors did the character justice.
And thanks to the power of costuming and make-up, they were both able to sport Dumbledore’s iconic white beard, spectacles, and long-flowing robes.

Percy Weasley Chris Rankin
After playing the pompously-reformed Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter films, Chris Rankin largely put acting aside. Instead he took on work behind the camera, working as a production coordinator for Atlantis, Downton Abbey, and A Discovery of Witches. Themes such as normality, oppression, survival, and overcoming imposing odds have all been considered as prevalent throughout the series. Similarly, the theme of making one’s way through adolescence and “going over one’s most harrowing ordealsand thus coming to terms with them” has also been considered. Rowling has stated that the books comprise “a prolonged argument for tolerance, a prolonged plea for an end to bigotry” and that also pass on a message to “question authority and;… not assume that the establishment or the press tells you all of the truth”.
