She Was Able To Restore Her Parents’ Memories After The Second Wizarding War

Harry, Ron, and Hermione Leave Home | Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1

At the beginning of “Deathly Hallows,” Hermione uses the “obliviate” spell to wipe her parents’ memory of her and send them to Australia for protection during the climax of the Second Wizarding War.

In the same 2007 web chat transcribed on The Leaky Cauldron, Rowling revealed that Hermione was able to restore their memories and bring them back to England “straight away” after the war ended.

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

Hermione first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone when she meets Harry and Ron on the Hogwarts Express, where she mocks Ron for his inability to perform a spell to turn his rat yellow. She proves just how much she knows by declaring that she memorized all the textbooks by heart. She constantly annoys her peers with her knowledge, so Harry and Ron initially consider her arrogant, especially after she criticises Ron’s incantation of the Levitation Charm. They heartily dislike her until they rescue her from a troll, for which she is so thankful that she lies to protect them from punishment, thus winning their friendship. Hermione’s knack for logic later enables the trio to solve a puzzle that is essential to retrieving the Philosopher’s Stone, and she defeats the constrictive Devil’s Snare plant by summoning a jet of “bluebell flame”.

Hermione is the brains behind the plan to enter the place where the Stone is hidden. She responds to Harry’s wariness of Professor Severus Snape and is also suspicious of him. She reveals to Harry and Ron that she does a lot of research in the library, which helped her defeat the Devil’s Snare and work out the logic of the potions.

Rowling said on her website that she resisted her editor’s requests to remove the troll scene, stating “Hermione is so very arrogant and annoying in the early part of Philosopher’s Stone that I really felt it needed something huge to bring her together with Harry and Ron.”

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Hermione buys a cat named Crookshanks, who takes to chasing Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers. Before the start of term, Professor McGonagall secretly gives Hermione a Time-Turner, a device which enables her to go back in time and handle her heavy class schedule, though this is not revealed until the penultimate chapter. Much tension comes into play between Hermione and her two best friends Harry is furious with her because she told McGonagall that he had received a Firebolt, which was confiscated to be inspected for traces of dark magic. Ron is angry because he feels Crookshanks is responsible for Scabbers’ disappearance, while Hermione fiercely maintains that Crookshanks is innocent.

While filling in for Remus Lupin in one Defence Against the Dark Arts class, Snape labels Hermione “an insufferable know-it-all” and penalises Gryffindor after she speaks out of turn in her attempt to describe a werewolf when no one else does. She correctly deduces Lupin’s secret after completing Snape’s homework assignment from the class. Crookshanks proves vital in exposing Scabbers as Peter Pettigrew, an erstwhile friend of James and Lily Potter, who revealed their whereabouts to Lord Voldemort the night of their murders, and was able to wrongly implicate Sirius Black in the Potters’ deaths. The Time-Turner enables Hermione and Harry to rescue Sirius and the hippogriff Buckbeak.

Why Hermione Gave Her Parents New Identities

Before Voldemort and his followers took over the wizarding world, the Death Eaters were becoming more brazen, even attacking innocent Muggles. It was clear that they would stop at nothing to get hold of Harry and his closest allies, including Hermione. In order to keep her parents out of the war, Hermione needed to effectively wipe any information her parents had on her, her friends, and the wizarding community. In a deleted scene in Deathly Hallows – Part 1, Death Eater Corban Yaxley arrived at the Granger home in search of answers, but he found the house empty. Hermione’s actions were justified since it kept her loved ones out of the conflict.

Hermione claimed that if she survived the Horcrux Hunt and whatever came after that she would find her parents and restore their memories. Shortly after Voldemort’s defeat, she located her parents in Australia, gave them back their memories, and the trio returned to England. It’s unclear how much of the truth that Hermione told her parents, but considering the threat was gone, she may have come clean about her role in the war. Years later, Hermione married Ron, and Mr. and Mrs. Granger went on to become grandparents to the couples’ two children. They undoubtedly remained proud of their daughter’s selfless actions and for her achievement in becoming the Minister of Magic following the events of the Harry Potter series.

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore

Quiz: Hermione Granger Facts

Albus, like Harry James Potter, got the first of his middle names from his own father, Percival Dumbledore. As the eldest son in the family this makes sense. Where Wulfric and Brian come from isn’t known.

Wulfric, oddly enough, means “wolf-power” despite Albus not being a werewolf. Brian, when traced back to Celtic, means hill. Dumbeldore itself means bee. So, there’s a lot of animal references in Dumbledore’s full name.

Despite Being The Top Of Her Class Hermione Wasn’t Good At Everything

Hermione is known for being a brilliant student who excels in almost everything she tries. She was even called an “insufferable know-it-all” by Professor Snape.

But there are a few things Hermione wasn’t good at.

In “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” we learn that Hermione isn’t particularly skilled at Wizard Chess. In “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” we also see that Divination isn’t her strongest subject. And throughout the series, the young witch never really got the hang of flying on a broomstick.

Why Did Ron And Hermione Name Their Daughter Rose

Rose Granger-Weasley, also known as Rosie, came first in the family of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. She was a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and sorted into Gryffindor House, like her both parents.

Rose joined Hogwarts with her cousin Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy , as well.

Unlike her cousin Albus, Rose demonstrated a natural affinity for broomstick flying, and during her second year in Hogwarts, she was chosen as the new Chaser of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. This situation, along with the fact Albus Potter was sorted into Slytherin house, distanced them from each other.

Suppose, we dont have to mention that Rose was a brilliant student, like her mother Hermione.

In terms of physical appearance, Rose inherited red hair from her father and in this case became a true member of the Weasley family. Speaking of intelligence, her father Ron said: Thank God you inherited your mothers brains. We cant agree more!

Rose was an intelligent and ambitious young girl with a photographic memory, putting a lot of pressure on herself, but more secure and more grounded than her mother.

And now lets talk a little about the etymology, i.e. the meaning of the name Rose.

Apart from being a flower of love, the rose was also a symbol of heroic courage, triumph, and glory, but it represents even luxury, wealth, and excellence. Not to forget, it is a flower known for its distinctive scent.

Harry Potter And The Half

New Potions professor Horace Slughorn invites Hermione to join his “Slug Club”, and she helps Ron retain his spot on the Gryffindor Quidditch team when she casts a confund spell on Cormac McLaggen, causing him to miss his last save attempt during Keeper tryouts. Hermione’s feelings for Ron continue to grow and she decides to make a move by inviting him to Slughorn’s Christmas Party, but he romances Lavender instead in retaliation for his belief that Hermione had kissed Krum years earlier. She attempts to get even by dating McLaggen at the Christmas party, but her plan goes awry and she abandons him midway through the party. Ron and Hermione continually feud with each other until he suffers a near-fatal poisoning from tainted mead, which frightens her enough to reconcile with him. Following Dumbledore’s death, Ron and Hermione both vow to stay by Harry’s side regardless of what happens. A minor subplot in the book is that Hermione and Harry form a rivalry in Potions, as Hermione is used to coming first in her subjects and is angered that Harry outperforms her undeservedly by following tips and different instructions written in the margins of Harry’s potions book by the previous owner. Hermione is also the only one of the trio to successfully pass her Apparition test .

Her Patronus Has A Special Meaning To The Author

The Parselmouths – What Kind of Name is Hermione?

A Patronus is an advanced spell used to protect a witch or wizard, and it can only be conjured by thinking of a particularly happy memory.

Each character’s Patronus takes on the form of a different animal.

In “Order of the Phoenix,” we learn that Hermione’s takes the form of an otter, which Rowling later revealed to be her favorite animal in a 2015 tweet.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Hermione becomes a Gryffindor prefect along with Ron and befriends Luna Lovegood, but their friendship gets off to a rocky start after Hermione chastises the publication of Luna’s father: “The Quibbler‘s rubbish, everyone knows that.” She also lambasts housemate Lavender Brown for believing the Daily Prophet‘s allegations of Harry fabricating stories of Voldemort’s return. Ron and Hermione spend much of their time bickering, likely due to their growing romantic feelings toward one another, but they show continued loyalty to Harry. One turning point in the series is when Hermione conceives the idea of Harry secretly teaching defensive magic to a small band of students in defiance of the Ministry of Magic‘s dictum to teach only the subject’s basic principles from a textbook, with no hands-on practice. Hermione gets an unexpectedly huge response, and the group becomes the nascent Dumbledore’s Army. She is involved in the battle in the Department of Mysteries and seriously injured by a spell from Death Eater Antonin Dolohov, but makes a full recovery.

Hermione’s Greatest Fear Is Academic Failure

In “Prisoner of Azkaban,” the students were introduced to Boggarts, a shape-shifting creature that takes the form of a witch or wizard’s deepest fear.

Hermione didn’t get to face off against the creature during Professor Lupin’s initial lesson on them. But later in the book after her Defense Against the Dark Arts exam she revealed what the Boggart transformed into for her.

The scene in the book reads, “‘P-P-Professor McGonagall!’ Hermione gasped, pointing into the trunk. ‘Sh-she said I’d failed everything!'”

It’s clear that failure, especially at school, is among Hermione’s biggest fears.

Harry Potter: Hermione’s Parents Almost Had A Connection To Baby Harry

Mr. and Mrs. Granger nearly had a much larger role in the Harry Potter universe with a very early connection to baby Harry when he became an orphan.

Hermione’s parents almost had a much more prominent role in theHarry Potter franchise according to an early draft of the epic tale following the boy wizard. Mr. Granger was considered to rescue baby Harry following the death of the infant’s mother and father, Lily and James Potter. Instead, Albus Dumbledore set up the recovery mission, resulting in Harry’s delivery to the Dursley residence. Had author J.K. Rowling went with the scrapped plan, Harry would have experienced a very different childhood.

Mr. and Mrs. Granger didn’t have major roles throughout Harry Potter despite their relation to one of the franchise’s most integral figures. In fact, the characters were never even given first names. There were, however, a few details unearthed about the Granger parents, including the revelation that they were Muggle dentists. When the Second Wizarding War ramped up, Hermione made the difficult choice to wipe her parents’ memories. They ended up relocating to Australia until it was safe enough for their daughter to restore their minds.

Hermione Granger Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ...

Hermione is horrified by the cruelty that house-elves suffer, and establishes S.P.E.W., the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, as an effort to gain basic rights for them. She is Bulgarian Quidditch prodigy Viktor Krum‘s date at the Yule Ball of the Triwizard Tournament. The proper pronunciation of her name is interjected into the plot when she teaches it to Krum the best he can do is “Herm-own-ninny,” but she has no problem with it. She later gets into a heated argument with Ron after he accuses her of “fraternising with the enemy” about her friendship with Krum. In the book, Hermione’s feelings toward Ron are hinted at when she says that Ron can’t see her “like a girl,” but Krum could. She supports Harry through the Triwizard Tournament, helping him prepare for each task. At the end of the second task, Krum asks her to come to see him over the summer in Bulgaria, but she politely declines. Near the end of the term, she stops fraudulent tabloid reporter and unregistered Animagus, Rita Skeeter, who had published defamatory material about Hermione, Harry, and Hagrid during the Triwizard Tournament, by holding her Animagus form captive in a jar.

Her Middle Name Changed Over Time

In earlier years, Rowling was quoted in multiple interviews saying that Hermione’s middle name was Jane.

Somewhere along the way, that must have changed, because in “Deathly Hallows” it’s listed as “Hermione Jean Granger” in Dumbledore’s will.

She Eventually Became Minister For Magic

In 2007, Rowling told “Today” that Hermione went on to a “pretty high up” position in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic.

Previously, in “Deathly Hallows,” Hermione expressed she didn’t want to pursue a career in this field. When asked by Minister Rufus Scrimgeour if she was interested in Magical Law, she said she wasn’t because “I’m hoping to do some good in the world.”

According to the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” play, which joined the series’ canon in 2016, Hermione eventually went on to succeed Kingsley Shacklebolt as Minister for Magic.

Hermione’s Appearance Was Altered In The Films For Emma Watson

The Entire Life of Hermione Granger Explained ( Ron/Hermione Relationship)

Emma Watson is well known for playing Hermione in the “Harry Potter” movies, but the actress’ features didn’t necessarily match with the way the character was described in the books.

Namely, Watson’s hair wasn’t as bushy and her teeth weren’t as big.

The filmmakers tried to remedy the latter with the use of fake teeth in the first movie, but it didn’t go according to plan.

Director Chris Columbus told Entertainment Weekly’s Binge podcast in 2016 that the crew planned on having Watson wear fake teeth. But they only ended up filming one scene with them.

“I realized that she’s never going to be able to perform with these huge fake teeth in her mouth for the rest of the movie,” Columbus said.

Nomen Est Omen And Etymology

We suppose you know that old Latin saying Nomen est omen which literally means: the name is a sign, the name speaks for itself. It is also described as true to its name or name is destiny which tells that each name has a specific destiny.

Etymology is the study of the origin of words and how the meaning of words has changed through the course of history. Etymology derives from the Greek word etumos, meaning true. Etumologia was the study of words true meanings.

Now that we have learned something new, lets meet these children from the Granger-Weasley family.

Early Readers Weren’t Sure How To Pronounce Her Name

Many fans who read the first few books before the films were released weren’t sure how to pronounce Hermione.

“I get asked that so much because people a lot of times say Her-me-one which I think is really cute. I wish I had told people right in the beginning it was pronounced Her-me-one,” Rowling said in the same 1999 interview.

This led the author to include a scene in the fourth book where Hermione teaches Viktor Krum how to pronounce her name by sounding out “Hermyohnee.”
