David Tennant Was In Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire And Sometimes It Is Easy To Forget Since He Wasnt In That Much Of The Movie To Even Begin With

Barty Crouch Jr. was in the Harry Potter series briefly and brought to life by David Tennant. The problem is that he wasnt in the movie for very long and if we do remember him in the role, it is because we were fans of his work outside of just what he brought to the table in Harry Potter.

There is something funny about looking at actors who have become well known and see how they change from the smaller roles we initially recognize them from. To be fair to David Tennant though, he was the Doctor at the time but it hadnt become the phenomenon in America that it was yet.

Still, Tennant isnt the only actor who went from a smaller role in the Potter series to being a household name. Some of the secondary characters have become stars of some of our favorite shows and movies and it is wonderful to see.

Can we give Harry Potter the credit for their success? No but it probably does help that they were in the series that we loved to watch as kids so when we see them in something else, were more likely to recognize them. David Tennant is amazing though so we are very lucky, as fans of this series, to have had David Tennant involved at all, even with his role as Barty Crouch Jr. being so small.

While some of these actors had recurring roles in the movies, others only popped in for one film, including Doctor Whos David Tennant. He was in the fourth movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as one of Voldemorts most loyal supporters, Bartemius Crouch Jr.

Barty took the Dark Mark in his late teens, and after Lord Voldemort‘s first defeat in 1981, he worked with Death Eaters searching for their fallen master. He was captured with Bellatrix, Rodolphus, and Rabastan Lestrange after they tortured the AurorsAlice and Frank Longbottom with the Cruciatus Curse, driving the couple into insanity. Barty and the other Death Eaters were brought to trial before the Council of Magical Law, over which his father presided.

Barty was insistent on his innocence, claiming he had not taken part in the crimes, and begged his father before the entire assembled Council and witnesses such as Rita Skeeter and his mother to clear him of the charges. Barty’s father headed the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the time and was under extreme pressure to appear to be punishing the terrorism perpetrated by Lord Voldemort’s Death Eaters. The torture of the Longbottoms was considered one of the most evil crimes recorded and used the trial as nothing more as to condemn his son.

David Tennant’s improv in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire changed the movie’s Mad-Eye Moody twist. The fourth Harry Potter movie introduced several major new characters to the franchise as Hogwartsin addition to students from the Durmstrang Institute and Beauxbatons Academy of Magiccompeted in a magical tournament. This included the first proper appearance of Voldemort and the debut of Robert Pattinson’s Cedric Diggory. Two of the new faces who played an integral part in Goblet of Fire‘s story, though, were Barty Crouch Jr and Alastor Mad-Eye Moody .

Moody played a pivotal role in the movie as he helped Harry Potter throughout the Triwizard Tournament. However, Harry and everyone else at Hogwarts was not aware that Mad-Eye Moody was an imposter. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire eventually revealed the twist that the seemingly cruel, albeit helpful teacher was actually Barty Crouch Jr. in disguise. The follower of Voldemort subdued Moody to take his place using Polyjuice Potion, and ensured that Harry Potter would be selected from the Goblet of Fire. While this twist also happened in J.K. Rowling’s book, the movie adaptation included a big change that could’ve clued unsuspecting viewers into what was happening.

He’s Too Clever For His Own Good

Crouch Jr. has managed to maintain his cover up to that point, but when he gets Harry alone after the tournament, his excitement at hearing about Voldy’s return betrays him:

Whoops. With his cover blown, Crouch decides to make the best of it and brag a little about his deviousness:

Do you think Cedric Diggory would have told you to open the egg underwater if I hadn’t told him first myself? Did you think Neville Longbottom, the witless wonder, could’ve provided you with Gillyweed if I hadn’t given him the book that led him straight to it?HARRY: It was you from the beginning. You put my name in the Goblet of Fire. You bewitched Krum, butMOODY/CROUCH: “But but…” You won because l made it so, Potter. You ended up in that graveyard tonight because it was meant to be so. And now the deed is done. The blood that runs through these veins runs within the Dark Lord. Imagine how he will reward me when he learns that I have once and for all silenced the great Harry Potter.

Winky knew that Barty had always loved Quidditch and persuaded his father to allow him to go out and have some fresh air. Barty’s mother, after all, wanted him to have freedom. Barty’s seat, by chance, was in the top box directly behind the seats of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. During the Quidditch match, Barty broke free of the Imperius Curse his father had placed on him.
