How Old Were James And Lily Potter When They Had Harry

Why Harry Didn’t Die in the Forbidden Forest Explained (Canon)

Its probably something youve never considered before, but James and Lily Potter were actually only 19 years old when they married and 20 years old when they gave birth to Harry. As Pottermore, a website endorsed by J.K. Rowling, details, Lily Potter was born on 30 January 1960 to two Muggle parents, Mr and Mrs Evans.

The Director For The Third Film Forced The Main Actors To Write Essays About The Characters They’d Been Playing For Years

The first two Potter movies were directed by Chris Columbus, while Alfonso Cuarón took the helm for Prisoner of Azkaban. Even though Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint had played Harry, Hermione and Ron for two movies already, Cuarón had them write essays as their characters. As the story goes, Radcliffe wrote one page, Watson wrote 16, and Grint, well, didn’t turn his in. In his defence, he was preparing to take his General Certificate of Secondary Education exams and was busy. Also in his defense: really, Al?

Cuarón claimed this exercise was a way to immerse the actors in their own emotions and experiences, while digging deeper into the characters they play. He said that their essays were “really beautiful, very honest, very bare and very courageous.” Apparently, he forgot that there was no essay from Ron.

Either way, Radcliffe says that they ended up being “freakishly” like their characters. In fact, that might have been the reason Emma Watson decided to embrace her inner Hermione, and celebrate the reasons she’s like her character. While the essay she wrote is unavailable online , we can only assume that Watson shares Hermione’s book smarts, common sense and strong sense of social justice. Socks for all the house elves!

The Cupboard Was Spider

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone threw audiences headlong into the magical world of Harry, with wands and owls who brought in the post, disapparating wizards, three-headed dogs, and brilliant little witches with bushy hair and big teeth.

As viewers got sucked into the magical universe of this knobbly kneed wizard, some might have overlooked the little details about the cupboard under the staircase where our hero lived for the better part of his childhood. Among other things, how many remember that Harrys closet was infested with spiders? This was not very surprising since, in any other house, this cupboard would have been a natural choice for a broom closet.

Why Did Harry Live

The first question that I have never been askedit has probably been asked in a chatroom but no one has ever asked meis, Why didnt Voldemort die? Not, Why did Harry live? but, Why didnt Voldemort die?’J.K. Rowling

This is the important question to consider, according to JKR, and by making this statement at the Edinburgh Book Festival she has since spawned numerous speculations. I have been reminded of this remark lately having read editorials which attempt to illuminate Voldemorts survival, most recently the excellent piece Blood Ties and Ancient Magic by simplybecky.

I must confess that it is in my nature to be contrary, and when specifically instructed to do something, I have an urge to do just the opposite. So my initial response was to consider instead, Why did Harry live? I doubt that JKR made this remark as a red herring, but her specific statement drew my attention to the fact that this question had not been satisfactorily answered in the text either.

JKR reminded us that we dont really know why Voldemort didnt die. Of course, the answer to that question had been alluded to in the books. In PS/SS, when Harry asks Hagrid what had become of Voldemort, Hagrid replies:

Some say he died. Codswallop, in my opinion. Dunno if he had enough human left in him to die.

James And Lily Were Head Boy And Girl In Their Seventh Year

Harry Potter

When Hagrid first delivers Harrys Hogwarts letter to him, hes bewildered at how little Harry knows about the magical world and especially his parents. As he tells Harry how James and Lily died, he also briefly mentions that they were Head Boy and Girl in their day. Its an easy tidbit to overlook, especially since it occurs so early on in the series. However, it says a lot about their academic achievement, skill, and responsibility as students at Hogwarts.

One Head Boy and one Head Girl are chosen by the headmaster in their seventh year from the entire student body. As such, they are essentially liaisons between the professors and students at Hogwarts, often communicating school procedures and tasks to Prefects and regular students alike. Since theyre given so much responsibility, its obvious that James Potter dramatically improved his behavior sometime before his appointment of Head Boy. Since he and Lily were already dating at this time, shes likely to have had some effect on him, which seemed to have paid off in his favor.

Jason Isaacs And Alan Rickman Were Getting Into Character By Stealing Stuff

Jason Isaacs played the despicable Lucius Malfoy, who was both super-blonde and super-evil. The real Jason Isaacs is nothing like his alter-ego, though, so perhaps he felt that he needed to do a little method acting in order to really get into the evil spirit. And what do evil people sometimes do when they are trying to get into the evil spirit? They steal stuff.

“I once tried to take a copy of the Daily Prophet because there were thousands of them,” Isaacs said in an interview with Bang Showbiz. To his credit, the director, David Yates, had given him the impression that he was actually allowed to have the prop, but he was later thwarted by security people who told him Yates wanted it back. “It was so embarrassing,” Isaacs said. “So I got nothing.”

According to CinemaBlend, though, Isaacs wasn’t the only one nicking props from the set the late Alan Rickman, who you’ll recall played Severus Snape stole all of the gold Gringotts on one of the first days of shooting. That both set a precedent for evil method acting and put security on high alert for prop theft.

Magical Congress Of The United States Of America

The Magical Congress of the United States of America is the magical body in charge of governing the wizarding population of the United States of America. It is led by the President of the Magical Congress of the United States of America. Unlike the No-Maj United States Congress, which is divided into a House of Representatives and a Senate, the MACUSA is unicameral. The MACUSA is located within the Woolworth Building in downtown New York City and spans hundreds of stories.

Newt Scamander visited the building in the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, when he was brought in by Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein for threatening the Statute of Secrecy by using magic in front of Jacob Kowalski, a No-Maj.

What Is The Purpose Of A Horcrux

According to J.K. Rowling, Horcrux is the object in which a Dark wizard has hidden a fragment of his soul for the purposes of attaining immortality. Horcrux is usually an object, but it can also be a living creature, having in mind that it is risky to do so.

The purpose of the Horcrux is to protect a soul from anything that can happen to the body. As long as Horcrux exists, the person whose soul is in her will be immortal, moreover indestructible.

No matter if the body is destroyed, the soul will remain intact and connected to the world of the living. Rarely will anyone choose such a way of life over death? It is known that such an act was performed only by two wizards, Herpo the Foul and Lord Voldemort.

Horcrux is known to have the ability to live independently without its creator. It has some kind of mind that thinks independently of its creator and can be strengthened by feeding on other peoples lives and negative emotions. Horcruxes that have been intact and hidden for years do not have such capabilities. Most Horcruxes, however, are well hidden to protect them from the risk of destruction.

The nature of Horcrux was considered extremely repulsive, so wizards were not taught about this spell and it was kept secret. Moreover, in the Hogwarts Scholl of Witchcrafts and Wizardly, it was a forbidden material. Only a few wizards knew what Horcrux was, and almost no one knew how to perform that spell.

People lined up outside the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square in Londons West End for the first public showing of the Harry Potter movie on November 12, 2001.

The late NPR correspondent Margot Adler spoke to a bunch of kids and their parents as they left a Manhattan movie theater. She found that most loved the movie, but loved the book more.

I like the book, one young viewer said. It explained more.

I thought the book was very detailed and the movie was very good but it sort of just quickened it a little too much, said another.

St Mungo’s Hospital For Magical Maladies And Injuries

St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is a hospital within the Harry Potter universe. Medics at the hospital are not called doctors, but are known as Healers and wear lime-green robes. Founded by famous wizard Healer Mungo Bonham, St Mungo’s is located in London. It was established to treat magical maladies, injuries or illnesses endemic to the Wizarding World. To enter the premises, one has to step through the window of what appears to be a derelict department store called Purge & Dowse Ltd. The exteriors of the hospital are red-bricked and dirty, which is the complete opposite of the interiors. Inside, everything is very neat and looks exactly as a hospital should. There are six floors. The emblem of St Mungo’s is a magic wand crossed with a bone. This is the hospital where Arthur Weasley is sent after he was attacked by Voldemort’s snake, Nagini, in the Ministry of Magic and Minerva McGonagall is hospitalised from severe stunning when Hagrid is forced out of Hogwarts. During one visit, Harry and company happen across Neville Longbottom, who has come with his grandmother to visit his parents in the long-term care ward. They also find former professor Gilderoy Lockhart there, still suffering from the effects of a backfired Memory Charm.

Privet Drive Was Based On Jk Rowlings Own Home

That is, it was sort of based on JK Rowlings second childhood home, which was in Winterbourne, Bristol. In her planning, Privet Drive was meant to befit Vernon Dursleys status as a company directorbig and square and smugly upper-middle class.

Why Did Harry Not Die In The Dark Forest

Harry potter

Once Voldemort announced he would spare everyone in Hogwarts if Harry came to him willingly and surrendered. Once Harry made it to Deatheaters camp Voldemort cast the Killing Curse, but turns out Harry didnt die.

The question has divided the fans ever since J. K. Rowling wrote the event into the books since there are so many different explanations as to why Harry didnt die.

Most people believe that Harry escaped the death because once Voldemorts Avada Kedavra hit him, the curse only killed his own part of the soul which was connected to Harry.

Another thing fans often point out is that Voldemort could not kill Harry since he was using the Elder Wand at the time and the true owner of the wand, ever since the events in the Malfoy manor was Harry.

This seems like the most likely explanation since its pointed out in the books as well. The book series points out that while Voldemort could use the Elder Wand he could not cast a proper Avada Kedavra which in turn would not have its ordinary effect.

However, the conversation Harry has with Dumbledore reveals that his mothers protection saved him and he never truly died which is why he had the choice to go back to life.

A Terrible Accident Happened During The Second

On , during the filming of Deathly Hallows, a horrible accident occurred, rendering Radcliffe’s stunt double, David Holmes, permanently paralyzed.

The 25-year-old former gymnast was filming a flying scene, one that required him to be yanked backward during a controlled explosion. Something went wrong and he was thrown to the ground Holmes, who had been Radcliffe’s stunt double since the first movie, suffered a broken neck and is still in a wheelchair.

Despite this tragedy, Holmes has maintained his relationship with some of the Potter cast members, especially Radcliffe and Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy. He’s also an official Ambassador for RNOH, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Appeal, where he did his strenuous recovery after the accident. He’s even encouraged other people, like gymnast Max Whitlock, to get involved.

Life, of course, isn’t easy for Holmes. In 2011, he faced some trouble getting permission to build a house to accommodate his needs. He likely had to find a new spot to build his house , but he moved on to other projects, notably a crowdfunding attempt to raise money for a specialist spinal unit at the hospital that treated him for seven months after he was injured. When he’s not busy raising 15 million pounds to buy new equipment and facilities for RNOH and running a production company with two of his friends, he gets his kicks driving specially modified race cars. At 150 mph. This all just goes to show that the Gryffindor bravery is real.

Professor Snape Was Secretly Cool

Children arent exactly known for professional discretion, even children who are Harry Potter actors. Even British Harry Potter actors.

If you ever drew an unflattering picture of an authority figure when you were a kid, youll be able to relate to this one on the set of one of the early films, Rupert Grint recalled drawing an unpretty picture of Alan Rickman as Professor Snape, and as I was drawing it, Alan Rickman was standing right behind me and I was so scared.

Now, if this had been an actual scene shot for any other movie, the authority figure would have snatched up the picture, scowled at its exaggerated features, and sentenced the offender to detention. But according to the Independent, Rickman did the opposite he was actually a good sport about it. In fact he was such a good sport that he made Grint sign the drawing and then took it home as a keepsake. I have it in my possession, Rickman later recalled. And Im very fond of it.

Where Harry Potter And Sherlock Holmes Live

Do you remember the addresses of Bilbo Baggins or Mary Poppins? A tour of literary addresses, from Privet Drive to Baker Street.

Characters in novels have a home. In some cases, fictional addresses are precise, complete with apartment number, street address and town.

The address 7 Eccles Street in Dublin refers to the row house of Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of James Joyce’s 1922 novel, “Ulysses.” The house existed but was demolished in 1967. There is now a hospital on that site.

In his stories, the author Hugh Lofting placed Doctor John Dolittle, who famously spoke with animals, in an English village he named Puddleby-on-the-Marsh.

In some cases, the authors simply give their protagonists a home in mansions and halls such as Manderley , the Pemberley country estate or a plantation by the name of Tara .
