Umbridge’s Unique Brand Of Evil

Why Did Voldemort HAVE to Kill the Potters? – Harry Potter Explained

Elsewhere in her essay on Dolores Umbridge published to Wizarding World, J.K.;Rowling explained that she based Umbridge on a real-life figure in her own life whom she strongly disliked and who also donned pink, childish, and girly outfits that seemed in direct opposition to her true nature. However, Rowling made it clear that the fictional Umbridge is in an entirely different league when it comes to sadism and violence. She even noted that Umbridge’s vile actions are on par with Voldemort’s: “Her desire to control, to punish and to inflict pain, all in the name of law and order, are, I think, every bit as reprehensible as Lord Voldemort’s unvarnished espousal of evil.”;

Even Umbridge’s name reflects how terrible a human she is: “‘Dolores’ means sorrow, something she undoubtedly inflicts on all around her,” wrote Rowling. “‘Umbridge’ is a play on ‘umbrage’ from the British expression ‘to take umbrage’, meaning offence. Dolores is offended by any challenge to her limited world-view; I felt her surname conveyed the pettiness and rigidity of her character.”

Compared to Voldemort, who makes no attempt to masquerade as a good person, Umbridge is a villain posing as a hero; she’s the wolf in sheep’s clothing, and that’s why she’s so terrifying.

Why Did Voldemort Kill Harrys Parents

In the Harry Potters series. Voldemort the Lord is insecure after hearing the prophecy that he will be disposed of.

Harrys parents were standing on his way to exterminate Harry; his enemy according to the prophecy. The prophecy was that Voldermot would be killed by a boy who was born at the end of July. Which meant it was either Harry or Neville Longbottom.

Voldemort did not want initially to kill Harrys parents James and Lily. He had promised Snape that he didnt want to kill Lily. But after hearing the Sybill Trelawney prophecy things changed.

Harrys parents died protecting the baby. Voldemort had come to Harrys house looking to kill the boy but the parents would not allow that. They paid the ultimate price. Voldemort killed both. Its also not clear why he wanted to kill Harry the baby. It was rumored that Harry was the savior who was born to rid the magical world of evil symbolized by Voldermot and that is what he feared. He believed the Prophecy and that it pointed Harry as the one to defeat him.

Snape tells Dumbledore, that the Dark Lord believes Harry is the boy meant and intends to kill the Potters.

The Real Reason Voldemort Wasn’t The Worst Villain In Harry Potter

In the magical world of Harry Potter, it’s pretty clear from the very beginning that Voldemort , born Tom Marvolo Riddle, is the main antagonist. After trying to kill Harry Potter as a baby in order to overturn a prophecy that predicts Voldemort will fall at the infant’s hands, the Dark Lord spends the next decade in hiding. But, as his enemies predict, he comes back stronger than ever.

Throughout his time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry the “Boy Who Lived” must wage war against Voldemort every single year. The ongoing feud culminates in his seventh and final year at Hogwarts when, at the young age of 17, Harry and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger set out to destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes, hunting pieces of the Dark wizard’s soul so that he can finally be killed once and for all.

Whether you’ve read the books a million times, watched the movies over and over again, or done both, you probably think that Voldemort is;Harry Potter‘s worst villain but you might be wrong about that. While Voldemort is a horrific, vindictive, and cruel mass murderer, there’s someone arguably even worse than him: Professor Dolores Umbridge, played in the movies by Imelda Staunton. A high-ranking Ministry employee who will do anything for personal gain and professional development, Umbridge is the worst person in the Harry Potter series, particularly because she presents herself as a hero.;

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

why does voldemort want to kill harry

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort furthers his quest for ultimate power. He disposes of the Minister for Magic and replaces him with Pius Thicknesse, who is under the Imperius Curse. Establishing a totalitarianpolice state, he has Muggle-borns persecuted and arrested for “stealing magic” from the “pure blood” wizards. After failing to kill Harry with Draco’s father Lucius Malfoy‘s borrowed wand , he goes on a murderous search for the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand ever created, seeing it as the weapon he needs to overcome Harry’s wand and make him truly invincible. He goes on a quest that takes him out of the country to Gregorovitch‘s wand shop, where he kills the old wandmaker. His journey also takes him to Nurmengard, the prison where Gellert Grindelwald is kept, and he kills Grindelwald as well. He finally locates the Elder Wand and steals it from Dumbledore’s tomb.

Rowling stated that after his death, Voldemort is forced to exist in the stunted infant-like form that Harry sees in the King’s Cross-like Limbo after his confrontation with Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. Rowling also mentioned that, despite his extreme fear of death, he cannot become a ghost.

Why Did Harry Survive Voldemorts Curse In The First Place

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Every Harry Potter fan knows why Harry survived the first time Voldemort tried to kill him. Its all thanks to his mothers love. Yet that protection wore off once Harry reached the age of 17, which he had by the time he met Voldemort in the forest.

This time things are more complicated. His mothers protection does play a role, which well get into later. For now, all you need to know is that it had supposedly worn off when Harry met Voldemort again since he had reached the age of maturity in the Wizarding World and was no longer living with his Muggle aunt and uncle.

One of the complicated reasons why Harry survived has to do with the Elder Wand. Though Voldemort had the wand at the time, Harry was its true master. Therefore the wand wouldnt allow Voldemort to kill Harry. When Voldemort tried, he instead destroyed the Horcrux that he never intended to make in Harry.

What Powers Did Harry Have That Voldemort Didnt

Voldemort tried to kill Harry when he was just an infant. He should have killed him, but when Lily sacrificed herself to protect her son, Voldemorts curse rebounded and wounded him. It only left a small mark on Harry.

It is often said in the movies that it was the power of love. Now, having this world filled with power and magic and being saved by the mothers love is beautiful but kind of disappointing as an explanation. Perhaps the curse never hit Harry right due to Lilys protection, a charm, or Voldemorts wand. There are many theories.

It is also mentioned it was the kind of power Voldemort didnt expect it was old magic. Lilys sacrifice resided in Harrys blood ever since she has protected him. The killing curse rebounded and destroyed Voldemorts body. He had also had a part of his soul latch onto Harry the only living thing it found, and so another Horcrux was created. But this one was not planned.

Harrys parents were Aurors, they wanted to fight Voldemort and found themselves with a son in the middle of a war. So Lily Potter needed to take action and protect her family. This protection stayed with him which was seen after the last battle.

In Deathly Hallows, when Harry goes into the forest to fight Voldemort to sacrifice himself, he still has a part of Voldemorts soul within him without even knowing. But the protection from his mother is still there.;

    Why Voldemort Didn’t Kill Harry Immediately In The Graveyard

    It’s one thing that Lord Voldemort banned all of his followers from actually killing Harry Potter, but it’s quite another that Voldemort had half a dozen opportunities to kill Harry himself but he didn’t. And why didn’t he, you may ask? Well, because he had a lot of stuff to explain before he did.

    Again, it’s no surprise that Voldemort’s ultimate downfall was his own arrogance, but you’d think after a couple of failed attempts on Harry’s life that Voldemort might hold off on the big speeches and just try to kill Harry. Had he done that, he probably would have actually succeeded.

    How Did Snape Betray Voldemort

    There is no evidence to show that Voldemort ever knew Snape had betrayed him by revealing his plans to Dumbledore; on the contrary, there is a fair amount of circumstantial evidence to indicate that he didnt. There are only really two ways Voldemort could have found out: from his spy Pettigrew, or from Snape himself.

    How Did He Make Harry A Horcrux

    Why Did Voldemort Want To Kill Harry Potter?

    There are certain elements of Harry’s Horcrux-ification that make some sense. It’s understandable that Voldemort’s soul was incredibly unstable after he had made half a dozen Horcruxes. It’s logical that when the killing curse directed at Harry rebounded onto Voldemort that it split his soul again.

    But how exactly does one accidentally make a Horcrux, and if it’s easy enough that it can be done accidentally, then why doesn’t;that happen far more often? The process to create a Horcrux is still a mystery but it appears to be fairly complex, so it’s pretty strange that Voldemort’s soul managed to skip all of the technicalities and make Harry a Horcrux.

    Why Didn’t He Try Straight Up Murder

    This is a question that we could ask about pretty much every character in the Harry Potter series, but it seems especially relevant since Voldemort’s ultimate goal throughout the story is to kill someone. And that is, why didn’t he just try some more traditional killing methods? Why didn’t he just stab Harry? Or shoot him with a gun?

    Why Did Voldemort Want The Prophecy In Order Of The Phoenix

    He wanted the prophecy so that he could know fully what it said, in case it held any information that would have helped him. He was aware he had only heard part of the details, and given the defeat by Baby-Harry, was keen to know the rest in case it gave him a clue how to avoid a repeat of that outcome.

    Dolores Umbridge Betrayed Her Own Family

    J.K. Rowling, who penned the original Harry Potter book;series, was pretty clear about why she created the character of Umbridge in the first place: she didn’t want the concept of “evil” to be entirely black and white. She expresses this through Sirius Black , who, during Harry’s fifth year, tells his godson that the world isn’t simply divided into totally good people and nefarious Death Eaters making it clear that bad people can also work for seemingly virtuous causes like the Ministry of Magic.

    In an essay on Wizarding World, Rowling relays how Umbridge turned on her own family in order to succeed within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement;;she hated her father because of his lack of ambition within the Ministry and ultimately got him fired, and lied about her Muggle mother to assume pure-blood status. As Rowling tells it, anybody who asked about Umbridge’s family would end up experiencing some kind of accident or misfortune, showing the lengths Umbridge would go to in order to cover up her real lineage or the fact that her father was a Ministry janitor.

    Why Was It Essential Voldemort Had To Kill Harry Himself?

    Professor QuirrellHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

    Voldemort makes his debut in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In this story, Rowling introduces him as the Dark Lord who tried to kill Harry Potter because the boy was prophesied to destroy him. Voldemort murdered Harry’s parents, James and Lily, but as a result of his mother’s love and willingness to sacrifice herself for him, baby Harry survived when Voldemort tried to murder him with a Killing Curse. Voldemort was disembodied, and Harry was left with a mysterious, lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead as a result.

    In the book, Voldemort unsuccessfully tries to regain his dissolved body by stealing the titular Philosopher’s Stone. To achieve his objective, Voldemort uses Professor Quirrell’s aid by latching onto the back of the latter’s head. However, at the climax of the book, Harry manages to prevent Voldemort from stealing the stone.

    • It seems like a matter of pride and of proving to the world that he was more powerful. What strikes me as odd, is how intent he was on proclaiming his victory over Harry Potter, to the rest of the world, in the last book, but plotted a long-winding scheme to abduct Harry, kill him in secret and return to his body in the fourth book.

    What Happened When Voldemort Tried To Kill Harry

    A post shared by Harry Potter Film on Oct 1, 2019 at 12:18pm PDT

    Voldemort was not able to kill Harry because Harry was the true master of the Elder Wand. So, therefore, Harry survived. Instead, Voldemort unknowingly made himself more vulnerable by trying to kill Harry since instead, he destroyed the Horcrux inside Harry. Harry ended up going to a kind of in-between place, where he meets Dumbledore and Voldemort is temporarily knocked out as well.

    Harry is also still somewhat protected by his mothers love for him. And this is all Voldemorts own doing. When he was rebuilding his body during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he used Harrys blood to do so. Therefore, he took some of Lilys protection into himself.
