Who Is Padfoot Harry Potter

Don't Miss

Their Deaths Are All Connected

Moony Wormtail Padfoot and Prongs

Throughout the course of the Harry Potter series, a lot of characters died . Unfortunately, many of them died trying to protect the titular character and his friends from certain doom under Lord Voldemort. While the Marauders were all tied together by their time as friends and roommates at Hogwarts, they also shared another, most certainly unplanned, connection. All four friends died while trying to protect the Boy Who Lived.

James was Avada Kedavra-ed by Voldemort while trying to block the villain’s path to Lily and Harry. Sirius put himself in front of Bellatrixs wand and lost his life as a result to give Harry and his friends a chance to escape the Death Eaters. Lupin engaged Dolohov in a battle to distract him and let Harry continue on his quest to destroy a Horcrux. Even Peter Pettigrew, who worked directly for Voldemort, died because he couldnt bring himself to strangle Harry in The Deathly Hallows. Of course, that was because Harry had saved his life and he owed him a magical debt of gratitude, but that doesnt change the fact that he gave his life to prevent him from dying.

Remus Lupin Almost Didnt Die

From Cedric Diggory to Dobby the house elf, there were a whole lot of tragic deaths in the latter half of the Harry Potter series. Easily one of the most upsetting, though, for devout book fans, was Remus Lupin. He played a lot of roles in Harrys life a long-lost connection to his father, a mentor, a protector, and an ally, just to name a few. Lupin conquered a lot of demons, and overcame his fear of loving Tonks. Hed just had a son, for crying out loud! Why did he have to die?!

It turns out, he didnt. J.K. Rowling revealed in 2011 that she considered sparing Lupins life and letting him have some semblance of a happy ever after with his family. Then, she decided that Harry Potter should serve as a reminder to us all that war often leaves children parentless, and that the best way to make that point was to kill off our favorite werewolf. Point well taken.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Sirius takes refuge in his ancient family home at 12, Grimmauld Place. As the last Black, Sirius inherits the property and allows it to be used as the Order headquarters, although it had fallen into disrepair. Due to the ongoing manhunt, Sirius is confined there. His confinement causes depression, and he is frequently withdrawn and antagonistic â especially so by Snape’s increasingly important role within the Order. The hostility between himself and Kreacher, his demented house-elf, also affects him, and he is consistently hateful towards Kreacher. When he briefly leaves the house to see Harry off to Hogwarts, his Animagus form is recognised by Draco and Lucius Malfoy, resulting in more threats and warnings. Harry and Sirius stay in touch through owls and the Floo Network, a system to communicate through fireplaces. Sirius is nearly captured by Dolores Umbridge, a Ministry official who is monitoring the Network and the owl mail in and out of Hogwarts. Near the middle of the novel, a large number of Death Eaters, including Sirius’s hated cousin Bellatrix, break out of Azkaban. The Ministry, which refuses to accept that Voldemort has returned and that the dementors have joined him, tries to place the blame on Sirius, stating that Sirius helped the prisoners escape and is leading them.

J.K. Rowling has said on more than one occasion that she doesnt plan to explore the adventures of the Marauders at length in a prequel. She has thrown fans of Sirius and James a bit of a bone as a consolation prize, though. In 2008, she released a hand-written, 800 word untitled story to help raise money for the;charities English PEN and the Dyslexia Society. The quick tale takes place when the duo are in their late teens, and involves a high-speed chase and Sirius iconic flying motorcycle. Though Sirius and James end up backed into an alleyway by two stern policemen, they escape captivity thanks to some help from their wands and three unidentified flying friends who could very well be Remus, Peter and Lily.

Though Rowlings story only offers us a glimpse into their lives as teenage wizard rebels, we get a very real sense of how fun, and carefree, both James and Sirius were before they turned their attention to fighting Death Eaters and the forces of evil.

The Rise Of Lord Voldemort

Padfoot Returns

As prominent members of the original Order of the Phoenix, the boys used their considerable talents for good, but it wasnt always so. Like when they were handed any one of umpteen detentions for hexing their fellow students . And more especially when they picked on poor Severus Snape though, in fairness, it should be recalled that James Potter acted swiftly in rescuing Snape from certain death following a dangerous prank set by Sirius.

Both understood the risks of being associated with the Order. Dark forces would seek to destroy them. But neither expected their undoing, when it finally came, would spring from one of their own close associates.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

As stated by J. K. Rowling during the BBC Paxman interview, 2003, Sirius is “definitely dead.” She has created further intrigue, however, by making a cryptic reference to the communication mirror Sirius gave to Harry before he died: “The mirror might not have helped as much as you think, but on the other hand, will help more than you think. Youâll have to read the final book to understand that!” In the final book, Aberforth Dumbledore uses the two-way mirror – which he bought from Mundungus Fletcher a year prior – to see Harry in the Malfoy Manor cellars, which enables Aberforth to send Dobby to rescue Harry.

Sirius makes his final appearance in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when Harry discovers the Resurrection Stone within the golden snitch. Appearing as a ghostlike figure alongside Lily, James and Lupin, Sirius supports Harry’s walk into death and assures him that dying is “quicker and easier than falling asleep.” He also promises Harry that the four will always remain a part of him.

Rowling revealed a family tree in the J. K. Rowling Documentary on ITV concerning all of the grandchildren of the Weasley family. In this family tree, it is known that Harry named his first son James Sirius, after his father and godfather.

Sirius Is Padfoot And Remus Is Mooney

Prisoner of Azkaban explicitly mentions the names Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs. Yet it fails to give;viewers the rest of the admittedly very important information. Movie viewers would not know that those are the nicknames of Remus, Peter, Sirius, and James, respectively.

The nicknames derive from their Animagus forms. Remus is a werewolf , Peter is a rat , Sirius is a;dog , and James was a stag .

Lupins Nickname Was Misspelled On The Marauder’s Map

Everyone involved in the Harry Potter film franchise had to know that fans were keeping a close eye on how faithfully they adapted the books to screen. Over the years, fans were keen to point out the many mistakes or creative liberties that the creative team took with the source material. One mistake in The Prisoner of Azkaban, however,;was completely intentional.

When the Marauder’s Map displayed its creators names, Lupins was spelled as Mooney instead of Moony, as it appears in Rowlings novels. It wasnt a careless misspelling, but rather a bit of an inside joke for the HP production team. The visual effects supervisor for Prisoner of Azkaban was Karl Mooney, and his friends thought it might be fun to put his name on the map he helped create.

That wasnt the only not-so-hidden trick they fit into the map, either. In the films end credit sequence, which was styled like the map, fans caught a glimpse of two pairs of entangled footsteps in other words, a couple of Hogwarts students getting into a little bit of hanky panky. Its all in good fun, and while Lupin probably would have raised an eyebrow at the typo, we all know he and his fellow Marauders would have celebrated anyone who used their map as an excuse to get up to no good.

Remus Became Distrusted By Sirius

During the First Wizarding War, Sirius grew to distrust Remus.

When Harry Thought Snape Ignored His Message About Sirius

Hes got Padfoot at the place where its hidden!Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harrys cryptic warning about the safety of Sirius seemed to fall on selectively deaf ears. But Snape, an Order of the Phoenix member, must have understood the code, right? Say what you will about the Potions master, we can all agree that he was no fool. So why didnt he heed Harrys warning?

Did Snape despise Sirius so much that hed let him be tortured and killed? Of course not, but under no circumstances could they have brought that up in front of Dolores Umbridge. Unbeknown to Harry, Snape made contact once the students left with Umbridge and they ought to have returned to the news that good old Snuffles was safe and sound. Tragically, things didnt go as planned and Sirius left Grimmauld Place to fight alongside the Order, losing his life in the fray.

Whether it was for ignoring his message or for goading Sirius earlier on, Harry partially blamed Snape for his godfathers death. Perhaps it was easier than facing the pain of his loss.

The Marauders Is A Name Mostly Used By Fans

Ask any Harry Potter aficionado who the Marauders are, and chances are theyll have at least a vague idea. Despite the fact that its a commonly held nickname for James Potters group of Hogwarts friends, theres not a tremendous amount of textual evidence in the Harry Potter series to show thats what they actually called themselves. In fact, the only time its used in the books as a reference to Potter and his friends Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew is in regards to the mischievous map they left behind.

The name stuck for fans, and is frequently used in fan fiction, art, film and general widespread fandom discussions about the characters. While its fun to imagine the four students had a secret Marauders handshake or wore little badges with M on them, its more than likely that they adopted the name solely for the purpose of giving their magical parchment a really cool title.

Harry Potter Dog For Adoption: Berry Who Played Padfoot Needs A New Home

He saved Harry’s skin in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” and now Padfoot is in need of his own savior.

As pointed out by the Sunday Express , the German Shepherd that played Sirius Black’s animagus is up for adoption in Britain, as his owner, stuntman Paul Thompson, can no longer take care of him.

I found myself spending a lot of time away from home,” Thompson told The Sunday Express. “The dogs needed more attention then I could give. It was a difficult decision to make but one I had to accept was best for the dogs.”

In a cute “personal essay” written on his adoption agency’s website, Berry describes life with two foster parents and the desire to find a permanent home alongside his best friend, Porridge. He’s also very humble.

“I am a German Shepherd and my Dad got me as a puppy,” it reads. “He did lots of exciting things like being a stunt man and animal training for films. Thats probably how I got my part. I love people and my best friend is Porridge who is 13 human years and who I live with. Porridge has also been in some films. Both of us are a bit wobbly in our older years but we still love life.”

Perhaps we shouldn’t be so dismissive of his literary capability; after all, he could very well be magic.

They Almost Drew Inspiration From Another Fabulous Foursome

Padfoot

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron had a pretty specific vision for bringing the Marauders to life. Early versions of the script featured a flashback sequence that introduced the audience to James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter as students at Hogwarts and showed them putting their map to good use. While planning the scene, Cuaron told his creative team that he wanted them to be modeled after the Beatles.

It makes a lot of sense, from both a stylistic and a storytelling standpoint. James would be the clean-cut Paul, Sirius the moody John, Remus the introspective George, and Peter the always-overlooked Ringo. Cuaron requested that each of the teenaged Marauders have shaggy hair and sideburns, much like their rebellious musical counterparts.

Unfortunately, the scene was cut from the film as was most of the Marauders backstory, in general — so we never got a chance to see the reference to the Beatles Come Together.

Yer not still on abou that, are yeh? Look, Snape helped protect the Stone, hes not about ter steal it.Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

Despite Hagrids assurance, Harry, Ron and Hermione couldnt ignore such suspicious behaviour. Where did Snape sneak off to while that troll was on the rampage? How did he get his leg mauled by Fluffy? Why was he threatening another teacher? It could only mean one thing Snape was plotting to steal the Philosophers Stone and use it to resurrect the Dark Lord!

Once again, the trio had the wrong end of the broomstick. Snape was trying to prevent the Stone from falling into the wrong hands. Unfortunately, he was a distraction from the real threat: nobody suspected Quirrell while his colleague was swooping around like an overgrown bat. Nonetheless, Voldemorts plan failed and that particular misunderstanding was cleared up. But if we thought this would put Harry and Snape on better terms, well… we were just plain wrong.

Magical Abilities And Skills

It took them the best part of three years to work out how to do it. Your father and Sirius here were the cleverest students in the school, and lucky they were, because the Animagus transformation can go horribly wrong one reason the Ministry keeps a close watch on those attempting to do it. Peter needed all the help he could get from James and Sirius. Finally, in our fifth year, they managed it. They could each turn into a different animal at will.

When Hermione Thought Snape Was Trying To Jinx Harrys Broom

Harry had a close call during his first Quidditch match when his Nimbus Two Thousand started a strange impromptu dance trying to knock him off. Meanwhile, Hermione noticed Professor Snape muttering with his eyes fixed on Gryffindors Seeker and, being Hermione, put two and two together. Being well-read on the subject of curses , she thought Snape was jinxing the broom and ran to Harrys rescue with her fiery spell.

What Hermione actually did was distract the real culprit as she sneaked up on Snape. The truth came out when Professor Quirrell admitted to Harry that hed jinxed the broom and claimed hed have gotten away with it too if it hadnt been for those meddling counter-curses. In other words, Snape tried to save Harrys life, and the only thanks he got was being set on fire. Harsh.

Pointed Out By Alexis Nedd On Twitter Its Surprising That Nowhere In The Harry Potter Series Do They Explain Who The Marauders Are Meaning Thatharry Thinks Theyre Random People

Why Voldemort Called Peter Pettigrew ‘Wormtail’ – Harry Potter Theory

Color me shocked when I realized that in the;Harry Potter;films, they dont explain who the Marauders are. When a tweet went viral with fans pointing out the thing that makes them mad about the movies, Alexis Nedd pointed out that they dont explain who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs are.

To be clear, look to Alexis Nedds tweet.

At no point in the films do they explain who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs are so as far as Film Harry knows, four complete randos drew the Marauders Map and Lupin just thought it was neat.

alexis nedd

Okay so now that shes pointed it out, its weird, right? We have to sit and look at the idea of the Marauders and know that there is an entire generation of kids who didnt read the books who think that Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs are just random people? Do they not understand that Harrys own father made the map?

If not for the map itself, it is upsetting that they also dont know these fun nicknames for Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter. There is something so strange about thinking of the world of the;Harry Potter;series without the context given to us in the books that Ill never understand.

I read the books as a kid so, for me, I have all this knowledge going into the movies and it would have to be interesting to explore the moves with someone who has no idea what information theyre missing from the series.
