Awards Honours And Recognition

Voldemort & Harry Are RELATED? – Harry Potter Explained

The Harry Potter series has been recognised by a host of awards since the initial publication of Philosopher’s Stone including a platinum award from the Whitaker Gold and Platinum Book Awards , three Nestlé Smarties Book Prizes , two Scottish Arts Council Book Awards , the inaugural Whitbread children’s book of the year award , the WHSmith book of the year , among others. In 2000, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novel, and in 2001, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire won said award. Honours include a commendation for the Carnegie Medal , a short listing for the Guardian Children’s Award , and numerous listings on the notable books, editors’ Choices, and best books lists of the American Library Association, The New York Times, Chicago Public Library, and Publishers Weekly.

Relationships With Other Characters

Voldemort calls Death Eaters his true family, though he has compassion for none, using them only as servants rather than comrades, eliminating them almost capriciously if they fail him in some way, are unfortunate enough to be in close proximity when he is enraged, or if it serves his evil plan. Indeed, Voldemort murders Severus Snape, who he probably considered among his most trusted and valuable Death Eaters after Snape killed Dumbledore, solely in an attempt to gain more magical power although he did express regret at doing so. Voldemort also shows no respect or allegiance to Bellatrix Lestrange, his most fanatical follower he does rescue her during the Battle at the Ministry, though likely because she was still useful to him, rather than feeling any loyalty to her.

Voldemort became obsessed with Harry Potter after he failed to kill the one-year-old boy livid that a helpless infant caused his downfall. He later seeks revenge on Harry to prove that he, Voldemort, is the most feared and powerful wizard of all time. Voldemort considers Harry weak in comparison to himself and he always discounted how loves power has aided Harry. But after possessing Harrys mind, Harrys overwhelming emotions for his friends and family are so overpowering and disturbing to Voldemort that they drive him out. He never attempts to possess Harry again.

Completion Of The Series

In December 2005, Rowling stated on her web site, “2006 will be the year when I write the final book in the Harry Potter series.” Updates then followed in her online diary chronicling the progress of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with the release date of 21 July 2007. The book itself was finished on 11 January 2007 in the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, where she scrawled a message on the back of a bust of Hermes. It read: “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 January 2007.”

Rowling herself has stated that the last chapter of the final book was completed “in something like 1990”. In June 2006, Rowling, on an appearance on the British talk show Richard & Judy, announced that the chapter had been modified as one character “got a reprieve” and two others who previously survived the story had in fact been killed. On 28 March 2007, the cover art for the Bloomsbury Adult and Child versions and the Scholastic version were released.

In September 2012, Rowling mentioned in an interview that she might go back to make a “director’s cut” of two of the existing Harry Potter books.

He Was Not Initially Going To Kill Lily

Voldemort never planned to kill Lily Potter, although this is something that is only revealed to readers. The movies never mention the fact that Snape begs his master to spare Lily. Voldemort only killed the woman as she tried to defend Harry and it seemed better to Voldemort to kill the entire family.

20 Harry Potter Facts That Most People Might Not Know ...

After his Horcruxes are destroyed, Voldemort dies in a dramatic fashion, slowly crumbling into dust and blowing away in the wind. This death is very different in the books, where the character simply falls to the ground and dies in a very unspectacular manner, proving he is just like any other person.

The Murderous Hand He Gives Peter Pettigrew

After chopping off his own hand in order to bring back Voldemort, the dark lord rewarded Peter Pettigrew with a magical silver hand. Later in The Deathly Hallows, the villain hesitates when attacking Harry Potter, prompting the hand to choke him to death as it believes he has betrayed Voldemort. This gruesome end for Pettigrew is left out of the movies.

Voldemorts Wand Only Connects With Harrys Once

In the novels, Voldemort and Harrys wands only connect once. This is due to very specific reasons with the pair using wands with the same core. However, the movies play out differently. Their wands constantly connect and dont seem able to be used against each other, even when they use different wands.

He Felt That Hogwarts Was His True Home

Voldemort clearly has a special connection with Hogwarts in the books. The films leave this detail out, but readers will know that the villain has a strong connection with the school and acts as it’s his true home. Voldemorts young life was spent away from his family and it also signified that he was special as it is the school for wizards.

How Harry Potter is related to Voldemort
“I have my reasons for using the boy, as I have already explained to you, and I will use no other. I have waited thirteen years. A few more months will make no difference. As for the protection surrounding the boy, I believe my plan will be effective. All that is needed is a little courage from you, Wormtail — courage you will find, unless you wish to feel the full extent of Lord Voldemort’s wrath —

Knowing that Dumbledore was sure to have seen to it that the Philosopher’s Stone was destroyed, Voldemort knew he would not be able to use the Elixir of Life to create a new body for himself. Voldemort decided to attempt an old piece of ritualistic Dark Magic to create a potion that would restore him to a body. He made plans to travel to England in order to obtain two of the three key ingredients: a bone from his father and the blood of his most hated enemy, Harry Potter. The third ingredient, the flesh of a servant willingly given, he would obtain from Wormtail himself.

He Had A Child With Bellatrix Lestrange

While on the subject of Voldemort’s family, those who skipped over Harry Potter and the Cursed Child might not realize that Voldemort actually has a daughter. Delphini is the unstable offspring of Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange and the last surviving heir of Salazar Slytherin now that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is no longer around.

While there was certainly time enough for a child to have been conceived and born in the build-up to the battle of Hogwarts, many fans didn’t take too kindly to this somewhat bizarre plot-point. That said, when compared with some of the other major story beats in the play, it doesn’t actually sound too far-fetched. Given all that he went through to conquer death though, it’s perhaps a little ironic that something so simple could help the Dark Lord to live on even after his downfall.

In the Half-Blood Prince, we see Tom Riddle Jr. as a troubled child and teenager before he became the most evil wizard of all time .

In one scene, Albus Dumbledore visits 11-year-old Riddle in the orphanage, and explains to him about the magical world, inviting him to Hogwarts.

In this scene, the young Riddle is played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes actual nephew.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin, now 23, from London got the part over thousands of young actors who auditioned for the role.

Some speculated that he was selected due to the family connection, but Harry Potter director David Yates said this was not the case but admitted the family resemblance was a clincher.

Yates described Fiennes Tiffin as very focused and disciplined and said he got the corners and dark moods and odd spirit of the character as well as having a wonderful haunted quality that seemed to bring Tom Riddle alive on-screen for us.

While he was just 11 years old when he is in Harry Potter, Hero has gone on to star in lead roles including of Hardin Scott in the film After.

Newt Scamander & Luna Lovegood

Since Neville Longbottom revealed that he was ‘mad for’ Luna in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 , film fans might be surprised to learn that Luna didnt actually end up with Neville but with Rolf Scamander, the grandson of Newt. Although we never got to meet Rolf in the books, Evanna Lynch revealed at the Oz Comic-Con in 2015 that J.K. Rowling almost had him explain The Tale of the Three Brothers to Harry, Ron and Hermione instead of Xenophilius.

In summary, Lunas marriage to Rolf made her Newts granddaughter-in-law: awww!

Similarities To Real Life

15 Things You Didn

Voldemort’s character draws certain parallels to three real-life dictators Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Benito Mussolini. However, J.K. Rowling uses Hitler as the bigger influence for Voldemort.

  • Prior to Voldemort and Hitler’s reign, persecutions of both Muggle-born and Jews were evident. Salazar Slytherin upheld that Muggle-borns should not attend Hogwarts while early Christians had viewed Jews as people who must never live among them.
  • It is common sense to never say Hitler greetings. Similarly, it is inappropriate to say “Voldemort”.
  • Joseph Stalin:
  • Both men had feared names during their reign.
  • On a related note, both men also created their names largely because they hated their pasts.
  • Both men also had unpleasant upbringings and started off in very modest circumstances .
  • Benito Mussolini:
  • Both also formed gangs as young boys .

First Rise Of The Dark Lord: 1970s

Many of the witches and wizards who joined him came for a share of the power he offered, but increasingly many joined his following out of fear of reprisal. The years of Voldemorts ascent to power were marked with disappearances, and increasingly open violence.

Each Death Eater bore a sign, the Dark Mark, a skull with a serpent protruding from its mouth like a tongue, burned into his or her left inner forearm by the Dark Lord when they had killed, Death Eaters would send the same sign into the air, comprised of emerald stars blazing in a haze of greenish smoke, causing terror when it was seen.

Voldemorts first reign of terror lasted eleven years. During this time, Voldemort and his minions attacked anyone who resisted or who defended the rights of Muggles and Muggle-born wizards, and marked the gruesome scenes of torture and murder with the Dark Mark lest anyone else think to stand in their way. Whole families were wiped out and many others went into hiding.

Overwhelmed by reports of deaths, disappearances, and torture in an atmosphere of terror, Bartemius Crouch, then Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, authorized Aurors to use the Unforgivable Curses against suspects, empowered them to kill rather than capture, and some suspects were handed to the dementors without trial. Still, the Ministry could not cope with the situation, so Albus Dumbledore began organizing the resistance, creating the group that became known as The Order of the Phoenix .

    Magical Creatures In Harry Potter

Magical creatures are an aspect of the fictional wizarding world contained in the Harry Potter series and connected media, all created by British author J. K. Rowling. Throughout the seven main books of the series, Harry and his friends encounter many of these creatures on their adventures in Hogwarts, the Forbidden Forest, or other locations throughout the Wizarding World. In addition, students learn to take care of creatures such as Hippogriffs and Unicorns in the Care of Magical Creatures class at Hogwarts. Rowling has also written Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a guide to the magical beasts found in the series, and based on the fictional textbook of the same name written by Newt Scamander and used by students at Hogwarts. Many of these creatures are derived primarily from Greek mythology and other folklore, namely British and Scandinavian folklore. Many of the legends surrounding these mythical creatures are also incorporated in the books. “Children … know that I didn’t invent unicorns, but I’ve had to explain frequently that I didn’t actually invent hippogriffs,” Rowling told Stephen Fry in an interview for BBC Radio 4. “When I do use a creature that I know is a mythological entity, I like to find out as much as I can about it. I might not use it, but to make it as consistent as I feel is good for my plot.”

    Events At Little Hangleton: 1944

Riddle didnt learn the complete story of his birth until he tracked down and visited his uncle Morfin Gaunt the summer after Myrtle died. In revenge for his fathers abandonment and Muggle blood, he went to the Riddle mansion in Little Hangleton and murdered his father and grandparents . The Riddles gardener, Frank Bryce, later told police that on the day of the Riddles deaths he had seen a stranger a teenage boy, dark-haired and pale, near the manor. The next morning a maid found Tom Riddle Sr. and his elderly parents dead in their drawing room, still in their dinner things. The Riddles were as cold as ice and each had a look of terror upon his or her face but had no sign of physical injury. The Riddles were buried in the Little Hangleton churchyard.

This last year at Hogwarts, Tom was Prefect, Head Boy, and received a Medal for Magical Merit. Albus Dumbledore later said of him, Brilliant. Of course, he was probably the most brilliant student Hogwarts has ever seen. Secretly however, Tom was researching Horcruxes and had come to the conclusion that if one Horcrux was good, seven would be better . He made his first two Horcruxes with the murders of Myrtle and his father. He was only seventeen.

About this time, Albus Dumbledore defeated the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in a spectacular duel and became the only wizard that Riddle ever feared.

In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it is revealed that Bellatrix gave birth to Voldemort’s daughter Delphi in Malfoy Manor before the Battle of Hogwarts. Twenty-two years later, Delphi poses as Cedric’s cousin and manipulates Harry and Ginny’s second son Albus Severus Potter and his friend, Draco and Astoria Greengrass‘s son Scorpius Malfoy, into stealing a prototype Time Turner with which she hopes to resurrect her father. Using the Time Turner, Scorpius accidentally creates an alternative timeline where Voldemort killed Harry at the battle and now rules the wizarding world. After receiving a message from his son, Harry, together with Ron, Hermione and Draco transfigures himself into Voldemort so that he can distract Delphi, allowing them to overpower her. He Had A Daughter With Bellatrix Lestrange

In the stage play, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” which became part of the “Harry Potter” canon in 2016 we learn that Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange had a daughter together named Delphini.

The exact date of Delphini’s birth is still a bit of a mystery, but she must have been born sometime between Bellatrix’s escape from Azkaban in “Order of the Phoenix” and the Battle of Hogwarts in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” during which both Voldemort and Bellatrix died.

Some Fans Think Harry Potter Is Now Immortal

This fairly new fan theory states that if Harry and Voldemort can only be killed by the hand of the other, then now that Voldemort is dead, Harry might be immortal, since the Dark Lord isnt around anymore to threaten him.

One Harry Potter fan, u/whompthatwillow, explained things on Reddit by discussing an alternative ending for the book series. They wrote of Trelawneys prophecy, What if it meant that the only way either of them could die, would be at the hand of the other? Meaning the one who didnt die had no other means of achieving death. They went on to explain that by killing Voldemort, Harry sacrifices his own death and gives up his only opportunity to reunite with his deceased loved ones, making him an even bigger hero.

We have to admit, this fan theory is a novel take on something that seemed pretty obvious before, but its clear we need to take a second look at what went down between Harry Potter and Voldemort. Prophecies are tricky things!
