James Family Has Ties To The American Wizarding World

Earlier this year, J.K. Rowling released a series of writings on Pottermore exploring the American Wizarding World and its own school of witchcraft and wizardry. Among all the information, which was preparing fans for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, was a key connection to the Potter family. In the piece about The Magical Congress of the United States , a list of the original twelve American Aurors was revealed. Among those twelve was a wizard named Abraham Potter, who lived in the US around the turn of the 18th Century.

Although it could easily be dismissed as a coincidence — Potter isn’t a super uncommon name, after all — it’s become safe to say that there is no such thing as coincidence when it comes to J.K. Rowling’s writing. According to Rowling, Abraham Potter’s “distant relationship to the famous Harry Potter would be uncovered by eager genealogists centuries later.” At some point, the Potter family tree must have branched off into America from Great Britain, like so many other Muggle families did during that time. Since there are five Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films in the works spanning from 1926-1945, it’s possible we’ll get to see James Potter’s parents, Fleamont and Euphemia, on screen at some point.

James Saved Snapes Life

Despite the constant teasing and bullying Snape was subjected to from The Marauders, there were limits to what was an acceptable form of torment, at least on James end. Those limits were tested during their time at Hogwarts, when Sirius Black decided to play a trick on Snape.

Sometime between their fifth and seventh years at Hogwarts, Snape became curious about how to get into the Shrieking Shack, likely because it was rumored to be haunted. In fact, it was the place where Remus Lupin went to turn into a werewolf during the full moon, a small detail which Sirius purposefully left out of his conversation with Snape. While Sirius, James, and Peter could safely visit the Shrieking Shack via the tunnel under the Whomping Willow, since they were all animagi, Snape, on the other hand, would have been ripped to shreds. Lucky for him, when James found out about Sirius trick, he put a stop to it saving Snapes life. Although James probably wouldnt have minded if Snape was expelled or dropped out of school, at least he didnt want him dead, a small consolation considering his history with Snape.

Lilys Love For Harry Wasn’t The Only Thing That Kept Him Safe At The Dursleys

It’s well known that because Lily consciously sacrificed herself to save Harry, her love protected him from Voldemort’s killing curse. Instead of being Avada Kadavra-ed out of existence, Harry was only left with his lightning bolt shaped scar well, that and a piece of Voldemort’s splintered soul inside of him. Nevertheless, if it wasn’t for his mother’s love, he wouldn’t have been around to take down Voldemort years later and fulfill his destiny as The Chosen One.

Why then was Harry given to The Dursleys, when there were so many other people in his parents’ lives who could have loved him like a son? Lily’s sacrifice literally ran through Harry’s blood and would remain there throughout his life. However, even that by itself couldn’t have kept him safe at The Dursleys forever. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore tells Harry about an additional layer of protection he placed on him before leaving him with his only blood relatives: “Your mother’s sacrifice made the bond of blood the strongest shield I could give you.” Thus, when his Aunt Petunia took him in, she sealed the bond of blood, ensuring Harry’s safety until he came of age.

Dolores Umbridge Also Produces A Patronus In The Shape Of A Cat

12 Magical Father

While Umbridge is an objectively hateful woman, she is also a skilled witch. As Rowling noted on Pottermore, she is one of few Dark Magic enthusiasts who’s capable of producing a Patronus.

“While there is a widespread and justified belief that a wizard who is not pure of heart cannot produce a successful Patronus… a rare few witches and wizards of questionable morals have succeeded in producing the Charm,” Rowling wrote. “Dolores Umbridge, for example, is able to conjure a cat Patronus to protect herself from Dementors.”

Remus Lupin’s Patronus Takes The Form Of A Wolf But He Prefers To Produce A Non

According to the character’s biography on Pottermore written by Rowling herself Lupin’s Patronus takes the form of “an ordinary wolf, not a werewolf.”

“Wolves are family-orientated and non-aggressive, but Remus dislikes the form of his Patronus, which is a constant reminder of his affliction,” Rowling writes. “Everything wolfish disgusts him, and he often produces a non-corporeal Patronus deliberately, especially when others are watching.”

Jk Rowling Tells Muggles Why Harry Potter Named His Son After Snape

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out eight years ago, but apparently you muggles are still hung up on the fact that Harry named his second son after Dumbledore and Satan Snape.

And J.K. Rowling gets it she does. But Snape, like most mortals, is more complex than the reductionist view offered by this fan would suggest:

As Rowling explained in a series of tweets, Snape loved Harry’s mother, Lily, and his unrequited affection drove him to resent Harry’s father, James and by extension, Harry himself. But, despite his maltreatment of Harry and the complicated killing of headmaster Dumbledore , Snape did sacrifice his life for Harry at the Battle of Hogwarts.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

Snape’s role in the fourth novel, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is not substantially different from that of the previous three books. He is apoplectic when Harry is unexpectedly entered into the Triwizard Tournament. Later Harry accidentally falls into Dumbledore’s Pensieve and views memories of several Death Eater trials from years before. At one point, Snape is named as a Death Eater by Igor Karkaroff, but Dumbledore comes to Snape’s defence, claiming that although Snape had indeed been a Death Eater, he changed sides before Voldemort’s downfall and turned spy against him. Later, Dumbledore assures Harry that Snape’s reformation is genuine, though he refuses to tell Harry how he knows this, saying the information “is a matter between Professor Snape and myself”.

At the end of the book, Dumbledore attempts to convince a disbelieving Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, that Voldemort has returned. As proof, Snape willingly shows Fudge the restored Dark Mark on his arm. He is subsequently sent on a secret mission by Dumbledore. This mission, as had been implied in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and revealed in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was to rejoin the Death Eaters and spy on Voldemort as a re-doubled agent, while pretending to spy on Dumbledore on behalf of Voldemort.

Harry Potter Psa: Lily And James Are 20

SNAPE IS HARRY POTTER’S FATHER?

Why have we never considered this before?

It’s probably something you’ve never considered before, but James and Lily Potter were actually only 19 years old when they married – and 20 years old when they gave birth to Harry.

As Pottermore, a website endorsed by J.K. Rowling, details, Lily Potter was born on 30 January 1960 to two Muggle parents, Mr and Mrs Evans.

Along with her older sister Petunia, the family lived in Cokeworth, England, and – as detailed in the 33rd chapter of the Deathly Hallows book, it was Severus Snape who helped Lily to discover that she was a witch.

Fast forward to 1972 and the age of 11, Lily and Severus enroll at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which is where Lily met Harry’s father, James Potter.

James was born on 27 March 1960 as the only child of wealthy, elderly parents . He was cocky during his time at Hogwarts, though JK Rowling notes in Philosopher’s Stone that he “deflated his head a bit” by seventh year, 1977, when he was named Head Boy and started dating Lily.

The pair within a year sometime between summer of 1978 and fall of 1979 – which would make them 19-years-old when they tied the knot.

Now, we know that Harry Potter was born on 31 July 1980 so, taking into consideration the above narrative, would mean his mother had turned 20-years-old the previous January, and his father in the prior March.

Woah. Why have we never considered this before?

Harry Potter theories can go on all day, can’t they?

James Potter’s Stag Patronus May Have Been Different When He Was Younger

Harry’s father’s Patronus was the same as his Animagus a form he adopted at Hogwarts, which earned him the nickname “Prongs.”

However, Rowling has said that Lily’s Patronus being a doe and James’ Patronus being a stag is not a coincidence.

“The Patronus often mutates to take the image of the love of one’s life ,” she wrote of the couple in 2007.

It’s more likely that James’ Patronus morphed to match Lily’s when they fell in love, rather than the other way around since Snape had known Lily since childhood and his Patronus matched hers, it seems reasonable to assume that Lily’s Patronus had been a doe all along.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

In the fifth novel, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Snape returns to a more prominent role. With Voldemort having returned to a fully corporeal body, Snape continues working as a re-doubled agent for Dumbledore. He is seen prior to the start of school at Number 12, Grimmauld Place giving reports to the Order of the Phoenix. He has a very strained relationship with Sirius, who owns Grimmauld Place and must remain there in hiding. The two trade frequent snide remarks and at one point almost begin a duel. Snape taunts Sirius about the latter’s not being able to take an active role in the Order’s missions because of his fugitive status. Harry feels later that this taunting contributed to Sirius’ willingness to take unsafe risks. Back at school, Snape’s allegiance to the Order has no effect on his dislike for Harry.

Later in the book, Dumbledore has Snape teach Harry Occlumency, the protection of the mind from outside intrusion or influence. The sessions are made difficult by their mutual hostility and end prematurely when Harry uses Dumbledore’s Pensieve to view one of Snape’s worst childhood memories without the latter’s permission. He sees the memory of Snape being bullied by James and Sirius, and of calling Harry’s mother Lily a Mudblood . Only in the final book is it revealed that, prior to this confrontation, Snape and Lily had been close friends.

Domhnall Played Bill Weasley

Domhnalls journey in Harry Potter is far more straightforward than his fathers. In fact, he doesnt even make an appearance until the penultimate film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. Domhnall was cast as the oldest Weasley child, William Bill Arthur Weasley. Bill was essential in helping Harry escape from Privet Drive after the trace broke on his 17th birthday. His fiancée, Fleur Delacour, took polyjuice potion to transform into Harry Potter so that the Death Eaters wouldnt know who was the real Harry Potter was.

Funnily enough, The Seven Harrys scene is the only scene in which Brendan and Domhnall act alongside one another in the Harry Potter films. In the following scene, when the Order of the Phoenix returns to The Burrow, Bill announces that Mad-Eye has been killed. As Mad-Eye Moody was one of the most powerful wizards, this is a devastating blow to the Order.

Relationships With Other Characters

Orphaned as an infant, Harry lacks a true family. The Dursleys, his only blood relations, disdain him, treating him so cruelly that Harry could be expected to cut off contact with them once he is of age. Cousin Dudley does show some remorse over how he bullied Harry and wishes him well when they part company, presumably for the last time, in the final book of the series. Rather than family, Harry instead develops close relationships with his Hogwarts school friends, most importantly, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and later, Ginny Weasley, as well as the entire Weasley clan.
