Swinley Forest Aka One Of The Forests They Camp In

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) Official Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe Movie HD

Appeared in: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Parts of Swinley Forest in Bracknell were used for miscellaneous scenes in Deathly Hallows Part 1, like when theyre being chased by Snatchers but most of them used green screens to add more dramatic landscapes, so I wouldnt go out of my way to see this place.

That said, I found this hilarious news article about how the crew kept denying that they were filming Harry Potter there, until a 10 year old boy literally just found a callsheet in the bushes that had ALL THE ACTORS ON-SET TIMES, where they would be, and a map of the locations! Luckily, he only found this after the filming wrapped up, otherwise it would have made fangirl stalking a little too easy.

Charming Snakes: Reptile House London Zoo England

Harry first discovered his gift for talking with snakes, in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, at London Zoo‘s Reptile House. In the scene, Daniel Radcliffe speaks to an enormous Burmese python, but the enclosure filmed is actually home to the venomous black mamba, recognisable for its distinctive inky black mouth.

But dont leave it at that. London Zoo is the worlds oldest scientific zoo, dating back to 1828, and offers all sorts of incredible animal experiences. Once youve seen the snakes, immerse yourself in a butterfly paradise or get up close to big cats in the Land of the Lions.

    New College Courtyard & tree

The New College Courtyard was also used as an Harry Potter Oxford location in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

    Number 10 Downing Street

It is inside the Prime Ministers office that the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince takes place.

It is revealed that there is a portal from the wizarding world to that of the muggle world so that the Prime Minister of the U.K. and the Minister for Magic can occasionally speak.

It is also here that Kingsley Shacklebolt works during his time as a bodyguard to the Muggle Prime Minister.

Harry Potter Tour Oxford: Practical Tips

    • Wear comfortable shoes. Oxfords cobbled streets might be beautiful but they can be killers on your feet. You dont want to be the person hobbling around halfway through the day.
    • The colleges have very specific hours when they are open to the public. I have included links to their websites but check before you go. As a rule, theyre more likely to be open in the afternoon, so I would start your Harry Potter walk around Oxford in the afternoon.
    • You do have to pay for entrance to the colleges and the Divinity School and Duke Humphreys Library can only be accessed on a Bodleian tour factor that into your costs.
    • Oxford is an easy day trip from London. If its your first time visiting the city, I would recommend staying at least one night as theres so much to explore.
    • While there is plenty of accommodation dotted around Oxford, you can actually stay in many Oxford University colleges outside of term-time for a real Oxford experience .

    Number 12 Grimmauld Place

HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE Trailer (2001)

Number 12, Grimmauld Place , London is the address and name of reference to the home of the Black family, an ancient and pure-blooded line of wizards. It first appears in the fifth book. The structure of Number 12 Grimmauld Place is a Georgian terraced house.

Number 12 houses the Black family tree on a wall tapestry, and an enchanted portrait of Walburga Black, Sirius’ mother. An ancient and deeply mad house-elf named Kreacher is loyal to the portrait of Mrs. Black. There are other portraits of members of the Black family, including Phineas Nigellus Black, one-time Head of the Black family and least-popular Headmaster of Hogwarts. The staircase is lined with the heads of beheaded former house-elves, which are mounted onto the walls.

The house fell into disrepair during Sirius’ twelve-year imprisonment in Azkaban. Following his escape, he returned to it in the fifth book to discover that it was now a gloomy and unpleasant ruin teeming with dust, decay, magical creatures, and various dangers. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and various members of the Order gradually restore it to a livable condition over the course of this book. In Half-Blood Prince, Harry learns that he has inherited the property under the terms of Sirius’ will, although he donates it to the Order .

The Claremont Square area of London was used for the exteriors of Number 12, Grimmauld Place.

Alfonso Cuarn Gave The Cast Homework

When Cuarón joined Prisoner of Azkaban as director, the cast said he was quick to treat them as teenagers rather than child actors.

He was the first one that assigned us homework, Watson said of the director. Grint explained that Cuarón asked them each to write an essay in character to help explain and help him understand the roles since they would know them the best.

Emma writes like 12 pages that are beautifully written, Grint quipped of Watsons Hermoine-esque demeanor, only for the special to later reveal that he never did the assignment.

Rupert didnt deliver anything, Cuarón said. He said, Well I thought that Ron wouldnt do it.’

Luckily Alfonso saw that it was very in character for me not to have done it, Grint teased.

Madam Malkin’s Robes For All Occasions

10 Most Controversial Changes Made To The Story In The ...

Madam Malkin’s is a clothing shop next to Flourish & Blotts. It sells robes and other clothing, including the standard Hogwarts-required plain black work robes, and dress robes. Inside the shop, Madam Malkin and her assistants will tailor the robes to fit. Malkin is an archaic term for a crotchety old woman.

Harry has two meetings with Draco Malfoy in Madam Malkin’s shop. This is where Harry meets the first wizard of his own age, Malfoy, for the first time, in Philosopher’s Stone. Harry is rather bewildered by the questions Malfoy asks, because Harry is still unfamiliar with many aspects of the wizarding world. A second meeting occurs just before the beginning of Harry’s sixth year, in Half-Blood Prince. This meeting is far more unpleasant, and escalates quickly into a near-duel before Malfoy and his mother leave in disgust.

    Hardwick Hall Aka Malfoy Manor

Appeared in: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2

The ominous Malfoy Manor may not be recognizable at first glance as Derbyshires Hardwick Hall. Thats because CGI was used to enhance the roof and make it pointier. BUT otherwise, the giant windows and imposing facade are all there for you to gawk at in real life, since the property is owned by the National Trust and open to visitors!

According to the BBC, exterior shots were filmed from a helicopter and the film-makers photographed and measured inside to help shoot indoor scenes at the studio, although there are definitely big similarities with the interior, especially the dining room we see near the start of Deathly Hallows Part 1. Remember, when Voldemort is having a fun dinner party with his squad and he kills the Muggle Studies prof who becomes Naginis dinz for the night?

Saying Goodbye To The Franchise Resulted In An Identity Crisis

Toward the end of the special, the cast looked back on saying goodbye to the characters they had portrayed for 10 years. Grint admitted that when the filming was coming to an end, it marked a weird time and he felt as if he lost track of who he was.

Even my name didnt feel like my name. I felt like I only really knew how to do one thing: I knew how to play Ron, he said to which Watson and Radcliffe agreed.

Many of the cast grew visibly emotional when discussing the impact working on the films had on their lives. In a touching moment, Watson shares with Grint that despite time having passed, its clear hes a pillar of her life.

We grew up together. Were family. We always will be. Even though we dont see each other all the time, yeah its a strong bond well always have. We will always be a part of each others life, Grint told Watson before also telling her that he loved her, which left Watson emotional.

Coltrane tearfully said that despite the franchises conclusion marking an end of an era, they will continue to live on in generations to come. He also said that though there will be a time when he wont be around, he assured that Hagrid will.

It really is like family. Were just so intrinsically linked. Theyre very important people to me, Grint said of the cast and crew.
