Though it was noted that the series has “complicated rights issues”, due to a seven-year rights deal with Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution that included U.S. broadcast, cable and streaming rights to the franchise, which ends in April 2025.

International Box Office: Fantastic Has A Beast Of An Opening With $1433 Million

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opened in first place on the international chart with $143.3 million in 63 markets. The film had the biggest opening of the Harry Potter franchise in 16 of those 63 markets, but ironically not in the U.K., where it had its biggest opening. The film debuted in first place there with $18.90 million in 666 theaters. This is the third best in the franchise behind the two DeathlyHallows films. Weekend Prediction: Is Grindelwald Committing Crimes Against The Harry Potter Franchise

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the latest installment in the Harry Potter franchise, but sadly, its reviews are, by far, the worst in the franchise. It should still have no trouble earning first place and will very likely break even just on its international numbers, but this is still troubling for its future. The second biggest release of the week is Instant Family and its reviews are good, but not great. They are certainly fine for a family comedy. Widows is the best-reviewed new release, but its buzz is quiet enough that it will barely finish in the top five. Meanwhile, A Private War is expanding nationwide and that could help it earn a spot in the top ten, but I wouldnt bet on it. This weekend last year, Justice League opened with $93.84 million, while Wonder debuted in second place with $27.55 million. Add in The Stars $9.81 million opening and the three wide releases pulled in $130 million. Harry Potter Hogwarts House Editions

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the original publication of the first Harry Potter book in the U.K, Bloomsbury — the publishing house for the books in the United Kingdom — began re-releasing each book in the series with special house covers. Over the course of the past few years, every book up through Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has received the House Edition treatment with four unique versions of each title. Whether you are a Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, or even a Slytherin, there is a special edition of each of the first six books featuring your preferred house crest and color scheme.

Everything up through Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix can be picked up on Amazon, while the Half-Blood Prince can be purchased through Bloomsbury or for the time being. Home Market Releases For March 12th 2019

Its not a good week on the home market. There are some big releases, like Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, but none of them are good. There are a couple of contenders for Pick of the Week, but the The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends: The Complete Series DVD is a re-release at a more reasonable price, while it is worth waiting to get the The Miseducation of Cameron Post: Special Edition Blu-ray. In the end, I went with a late screener, The Forbidden Photos Of A Lady Above Suspicion: Collectors Edition Blu-ray. It is definitely the best bet for fans of Giallo and / or Film Noir. More…

Daily Box Office: Ralph Is Breaking Record Books

Its Thanksgiving long weekend, which means many studios are closed and are not reporting official numbers. However, one of the studios that is reporting numbers is Disney and they are reporting record-breaking numbers. Ralph Breaks the Internet earned $18.5 million on Wednesday, which is significantly more than either Coco or Moana managed the previous two years. In fact, this is more than Frozen managed during its record-breaking wide expansion back in 2013. This films reviews are great and it earned an A minus from CinemaScore, so it should have good legs and could top Frozens $93.59 million five-day opening. In fact, some studios think it has a real chance of $100 million during its five-day opening. Friday Estimates: Fantastic Dominates Charts But With Just $297 Million

As expected, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them easily earned first place on Friday. However, it only managed $29.7 million, which was well below expectations. This is the worst opening day in the Harry Potter franchise since The Chamber of Secrets. The reviews are weaker than the franchise as a whole, but its CinemaScore is an A and thats roughly average for the previous 8 Harry Potter films. The film should still earn between $70 million and $75 million over the weekend, depending on if the high CinemaScore can overcome the Fanboy Effect. Quidditch Through The Ages Illustrated Edition

Since first appearing in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone , Quidditch Through The Ages has been a fan-favorite of Harry Potter enthusiasts, and now thanks to a soon-to-be-released illustrated version, the history of the wizard worlds favorite sport will reach a new audience. With illustrations by Emily Gravett and text from J.K. Rowling, the updated version was published in October 2020 by Bloomsbury in the United Kingdom and Scholastic in the United States.

The Making Of Harry Potter

In March 2011, Warner Bros. announced plans to build a tourist attraction in the United Kingdom to showcase the Harry Potter film series. The Making of Harry Potter is a behind-the-scenes walking tour featuring authentic sets, costumes and props from the film series. The attraction is located at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, where all eight of the Harry Potter films were made. Warner Bros. constructed two new sound stages to house and showcase the famous sets from each of the British-made productions, following a £100 million investment. It opened to the public in March 2012.

Fantastic Beasts 3 Trailer: Any Fantastic Beasts 3 Footage Yet

Filming might have finished, but we’re no closer to any footage from Fantastic Beasts 3 yet, we’re afraid.

The first teaser trailer for The Crimes of Grindelwald was released in March 2018, eight months ahead of the sequel’s release. A similar timeline would put the first trailer for the threequel landing in December 2021.

That’s speculative for now, but Warner Bros does have some big movies later this year, including The Matrix 4, that it could be promoted with.

Weekend Estimates: Breaking Dawn Posts 8th

The beginning of the end for the Twilight franchise is here, and, as expected, big money is being made by Lionsgate/Summit. While this installment doesn’t look like it will break franchise records, Lionsgate is predicting a $141.3 million opening weekend, which will be the 8th-best of all time, assuming it holds up. New Moon will most likely remain the top opener for the franchise with $142.8 million, although it will be a close-run thing. Twilight will most likely end up the 5th-highest-grossing franchise at the domestic box office, behind only the “box office gods”, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Batman and James Bond.More…

As there are no plans to adapt Harry Potter and the Cursed Child into a movie, there is no release date information to speak of.

Instead, film fans will have to look forward to the next Fantastic Beasts film, the third in the series, which is currently slated for release on July 15th, 2022.

Performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London are suspended until further notice owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A live-action Harry Potter show is in the works at HBO Max according to multiplereports. That probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise to those familiar with the property, most of whom have been predicting that Warner Bros. would start delving more into the Potter world for quite some time now, but it appears that the launch of a new streaming service has given the studio the extra motivation needed to start mining the franchise for even more spin-off potential.

The series is said to still be in the very early stages of development, so not many details have been revealed about it yet. With that being said, hereâs everything we know about the Harry Potter series right now, that you should also know.

Would The Harry Potter Cast Return

While recasting the beloved original cast of the Harry Potter franchise would prove a challenging endeavor, the studio might have to for story continuity. The characters are considerably older in the play Harry, Ron and Hermione are in their late 30s, so the original three actors of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are still a bit too young-looking to convincingly be just a stone’s throw away from 40.

Another thing to consider is how Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally cast, which had caused inevitable controversy back in 2016: Hermione Grangers role was given to a Black actress, which Rowling defended by saying that Hermiones skin color had never been described in detail in the novels. If the studio decides to go with that new canon, they should lean into fully recasting every role.

The Cursed Child Is The Continuation Of Harry Potters Story

According to Express, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two-part stage play that continues Harrys story. It begins 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, with Harry, Ron, and Hermione as middle-aged adults.

Warner Bros. recently acquired the rights to the play, sparking rumors that a film adaptation is in the works. However, the studio is currently in the middle of their five Fantastic Beasts prequels. That series wont conclude until the mid 2020s, which pushes back The Cursed Child until closer to 2030.

Serendipitously, around that same time the original Harry Potter cast will be the perfect age to reprise their roles. This is all hopeful speculation and fan theory at this point. Unfortunately, Tom Felton says theyve already told the story they wanted to tell. He doesnt think the original actors will reprise their roles if given the opportunity.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Illustrated Edition

Those of us who already own about five copies of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them found an excuse to buy one more when the fully illustrated edition was released in November 2017. The color illustrations came from artist Olivia Lomenech Gill, and used a variety of artistic techniques to depict the beasts. Nearly a year later in October 2018, fans saw the release of The Tales of Beedle the Bard: The Illustrated Edition which included masterful work by Lisbeth Zwerger who brought J.K. Rowlings collection of short stories to life in great detail.

In addition to a re-release of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, an audiobook edition for the textbook was released the same day the new edition of the book came out. Eddie Redmayne narrates the book. Normally, we would’ve hoped that Jim Dale — narrator of the U.S. versions of the Harry Potter books — would be back for this, but having the textbook narrated by Newt Scamander himself is far too perfect to complain. Based on Audible’s page, the audiobook clocks in at just under two hours.
