The fictional universe of British author J. K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter series of fantasy novels comprises two distinct societies: the Wizarding World and the Muggle world. In the novels, the Muggle world is the world inhabited by the non-magical majority, with which the Wizarding world exists coextensively, albeit mostly remaining hidden from the non-magical humans. The plot of the series is set in 1990s Britain, but in a veiled and separate shadow society wherein magic is commonly used and practised, and those who can use it live in self-enforced seclusion, hiding their abilities from the rest of the world. The term “Wizarding World” refers to the global wizard community that lives hidden in parallel with the Muggle world the different terms refer to different communities within the same area rather than separate planets or worlds. Any new works taking place in this universe are released under the “J. K. Rowling’s Wizarding World” brand.

The sixth book in the Harry Potter Book Series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince gives us insights into Severus Snape. This is also the book in which Dumbledore dies. He leaves the responsibility of finding and destroying the remaining Horcruxes, to Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Harry comes across an old Potions textbook with a number of spells and notes pencilled in. He aces his Potions class with the help of these tips from the textbook, which is the property of the Half-Blood Prince. The school gets a new Potions teacher, Professor Slughorn and Snape finally gets the job he coveted, Defence Against the Dark Arts.

Everyone believes that Snape is not to be trusted, but Dumbledore firmly believes that Snape is on the side of the good. However, in the climax, it is Snape who is revealed to be the Half-Blood Prince and is the one who kills Dumbledore! Harry witnesses this and is devastated. Hogwarts and the wizarding world will never be the same again.

Harry Potter Universe Factoid: Voldemort, as Tom Riddle, a student at Hogwarts, first discusses the idea of Horcruxes with Professor Slughorn and goes on to create seven such Horcruxes to keep himself alive in some form. The Tales Of Beadle The Bard

The Tales of Beadle the Bard served as a gateway into the fictional stories of the Wizarding World. Once again this novel is available to muggles worldwide, but one story in particular stands out.

It was the Bard’s work that ultimately produced the Tale of the Three Brothers, which revealed the reality of the elder wand, the stone of resurrection and the cloak of invisibility.

Moin And The Monster By Author Anushka Ravishankar

Moin and the Monster by Anushka Ravishankar and published by Duckbill Books is a fun book about the monster that can come to life only if a person draws it out. Moin manages to draw a very funny-looking monster that is funny rather than scary and reminds us a lot of Dobby, the house elf in the Harry Potter book series.

Harry Potters Popularity Completely Changed The Publishing Industry And The Effect Spilled Over To Hollywood

What Happened to These 10 Characters AFTER the Deathly Hallows? – Harry Potter Explained

Here are just two of the ways Harry Potter changed publishing, and how those changes affected the rest of pop culture:

1) The books made it possible to publish long works aimed at children. Prior to Harry Potter, the accepted wisdom was that kids didnt have the attention span to read long books. And anyway, the thinking went, kids werent buying their own books. Their parents were paying for everything, and they would never be willing to pay an extra dollar or two for a longer book, with its extra printing and binding.

But after Harry Potter became an unstoppable cultural force, and it was clear that fans would keep buying thebooks no matter what, it started to expand. The last four volumes of the series are all doorstoppers that clock in at well over 700 pages each.

Publishers and childrens writers took notice. Booklist found that middle-grade novels expanded 115.5 percent between 2006 and 2016, the decade in which the Potter novels were at their longest.

The Outsiders reinvented young adult fiction. Harry Potter made it inescapable.

2) Harry Potter made childrens literature an unstoppable force. Before Harry Potter, childrens literature was often considered an afterthought. Sales were falling. Children, analysts would say wistfully, just werent reading anymore.

Three Dark Crowns By Kendare Blake

In this dark fantasy series, three sisters must fight to the death to become the queen of the island of Fennbirm. Triplets, each of the sisters possess a particular kind of magic they use against each other in a battle that begins when they turn 16.

Blake establishes myriad side plots and relationships, builds complex characters, and leaves plenty of compelling avenues to explore in future books, writes Publishers Weekly. Teens from eighth grade and up are the right audience, but adults will like the hypnotic story, too.

The four-book series consists of Three Dark Crowns, One Dark Throne, Two Dark Reigns, and Five Dark Fates.

The First Mention Of Bezoar In The Harry Potter Universe

We first come across the word bezoar in the Harry Potter series when Severus Snape asks Harry several questions in his first Potions class. Although Harry is keen on proving himself as an able student, Snape seems to have a seething grudge towards Harry and asks him several difficult questions. The second question he asks is about the source of a bezoar. Hermione is the only one in the class who knows the answers to all these questions. However, when Harry fails to answer these questions, Snape belittles him and calls him out for being famous. He later explains to the class that bezoars are hard ball-like objects found in the stomach or small intestine of a goat.

Quidditch Through The Ages By J K Rowling

Ravendor

Written under the pen name of an English wizard Kennilworthy Whisp, Quidditch Through The Ages explores each and every aspect of Harry Potter’s favorite wizarding sport. Starting with the first recorded quidditch match on Queerditch Marsh, the author continues to fill the pages with thrilling facts about the game’s rules, referees, the most acclaimed teams, glorious players, and much more.

Needless to say, some chapters deal with broomsticks and how this magical version of football is played today, considering there are so many quidditch fanatics out there among not only witches and wizards but also among non-magical folks.

Laws Concerning Magical Creatures

In both the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the film of the same name, laws governing magical creatures are often referenced. Like any laws, these are changed over time and vary from country to country.

There are three distinct definitions for all magical creatures given in the Fantastic Beasts book, which are “Beasts”, “Beings” and “Spirits” which were defined in 1811 by the British Minister for Magic. “Beings” are defined as “any creature that has sufficient intelligence to understand the laws of the magical community and to bear part of the responsibility in shaping those laws”.

Laws have been created surrounding the management of magical creatures, largely for the purposes of their protection, but also to protect wizards from dangerous creatures, govern ownership of certain creatures, and also to hide them from the Muggle world. In the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film, the political climate of the wizarding community at the time saw a blanket ban on possessing all magical creatures.

So What’s The Recommended Reading Order

What the Harry Potter books should have been called we all know that ...

Fortunately, Harry Potter isn’t one of those series like Star Wars has a sprawling number of canon novels, film novelizations, reference books, and comics to read. Instead, it’s a finite universe which makes catching up on it much easier. We recommend reading the main series chronologically so that you can see Harry and his friends grow up. Then if you’re still thirsting for more of the Wizarding World you can see where your interests most strongly lie , and start again there.

If you still havent read Harry Potter, just know that its never too late to start and even for those who have, youre never too old to go back and relive the magic.
