When Did Harry Potter Go To Hogwarts

Don't Miss

The Harry Potter Saga

Did Mary Poppins Go To Hogwarts?

This, of course, is the centerpiece of the Harry Potter timeline. Lord Voldemort’s attack upon the young Harry Potter backfired, leaving him powerless and on the brink of death. The Death Eaters were forced into retreat, and many were imprisoned in Azkaban. The wizarding world entered a period of peace – but Albus Dumbledore believed it was just the calm before another storm.

Each of the Harry Potter books and films is set in a single school year, occurring from 1991 through 1998. During this period, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger attended Hogwarts, and the threat of Lord Voldemort once again loomed on the horizon. The Dark Lord’s return truly began in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when he managed to restore himself to full power with a potion incorporating Harry Potter’s own blood. Within two years, he had once again taken control of the wizarding community in Britain. However, he hadn’t factored in Harry Potter and his friends successfully destroying Voldemort’s Horcruxes and killing him.

He Often Fought With His Son

Its almost a certainty that children are going to fight with their parents.

James and Harry likely would have had arguments if he had been able to raise Harry, but as everyone knows, Voldemort took James life when Harry was very young.

While Harry has two sons in The Cursed Child – Albus and James – Harry primarily fights with Albus since they often dont see eye to eye on certain situations.

Albus often defied his father, which usually caused conflicts with Harry.

At one point, Harry even told Albus that he wished that he wasnt his son.

While the father and son have their disagreements, as the book progresses, they begin to fix their relationship.

He Was Given Sirius Motorcycle

Not very many people are aware, but the motorbike that Hagrid drives in The Sorcerers Stone actually belongs to Sirius Black.

He borrowed it from Sirius in order to drive Harry to 4 Privet Drive. Years later, Hagrid drives Harry away from Privet Drive in The Order of the Phoenix in the same bike but is attacked by Death Eaters.

The bike is seemingly destroyed, but Mr. Weasley salvages the bike and eventually is able to repair it.

The books explain how much Sirius loved his motorbike so it only makes sense that it would eventually go to Harry, according to J.K Rowling.

Sirius was said to have a lot of fun with the motorbike, so hopefully Harry will be seen flying it in a future movie.

Visiting The Harry Potter Great Hall

One of the most enchanting creations in the Harry Potter universe for me was simply the Great Hall: long wooden tables dressed to the nines with glittering goblets and and tableware, thousands of floating candles hovering in the air. and of course, decadent feasts filled with scrumptious English treats I never understood, like treacle tart and spotted dick pudding. Heh.

It was a childhood dream of mine to one day see the Great Hall for myself and if you shared that dream too, Im happy to report that you can! Here is how you can see the Great Hall in real life.

Option B: The Forbidden Forest

Remember: The Forbidden Forest is out of bounds for all students

But not the real life locations! So yes, if you want to visit them, youre totally free to do so.

A variety of forests around the UK were used for filming Forbidden Forest scenes, although pretty much all the magical, otherworldly additions were either accomplished on a set or with CGI, so visiting these spots will look very different from the sets in the films.

Nonetheless, if you dig forests or are simply curious, here are some real life Forbidden Forests that you can visit.

Black Park, Buckinghamshire: Used throughout the franchise for a few small scenes, including Hagrids Hut in the first two films, the detention scene from Philosophers Stone where they head into the Forbidden Forest for the first time, and a few wider shots in Chamber of Secrets like when the Ford Anglia is driving away from Aragog. It was also used in Order of the Phoenix, as Hogsmeade Station, when they constructed a special track and station set for the students to step off and transfer from the train to the Thestral-pulled carriages.

Frithaden Beeches Wood in the Chiltern Hills of England: This is actually where the real life model for the Whomping Willow once stood, but sadly the famous Queen Beech as it was known split in half and collapsed back in 2014. This is also the forest they walk through on their way to the portkey to the Quidditch Cup in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

What Will The Cast Talk About

In addition to interviews and cast conversations, the 20th anniversary special will give an in-depth look into how the first Harry Potter movie was made. Viewers can catch behind-the-scenes film footage, as well as never-before-seen clips.

The show will take place at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, where the Harry Potter films were shot.

Here’s the first teaser for the anniversary celebration event.

And here’s another, released Dec. 6., which shows some cast members getting their letters from Hogwarts for the reunion.

On Dec. 20, HBO released a trailer giving a peek at some of the cast reunions.

He Came Face To Face With Voldemorts Daughter

Did Merlin Go to Hogwarts? When? Which House Was He In? – Harry Potter Explained

When Delphi is first introduced in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, she is believed to be the niece of Amos Diggory. This is soon discovered to be a lie and it is revealed that Delphi is actually the daughter of Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange.

Delphi manipulates Albus and Scorpius into helping her steal a time-turner from Hermiones office at the Ministry of Magic and travel back in time to save Cedric Diggory.

Knowing that this could potentially change history, Delphi tries to follow a prophecy so that her father can return.

While her plan ultimately fails, it was still surprising to have Harry come face to face with Lord Voldemort and Bellatrixs offspring.

  • The exterior model fixes the Great Hall’s corresponding window issue by switching the positions of the smaller and larger sets of windows. However, the interior film set did not change from the previous versions and thus does not include these windows, which should now be visible below the ceiling.
  • Students from a house in which the dormitories are located on the east side of the castle are shown marching to the Great Hall through the Viaduct Courtyard, even though the viaduct bridge that connects the two areas together was removed.
  • The redesign of the Grand Staircase shows that the area of the stairs far exceeds the area of the Marble Staircase Tower.
  • There is no tower that supports the shape and windows of the narrow staircase that leads up to the Ravenclaw Common Room.
  • The cloister where Harry talks to the Grey Lady does not appear to correspond with any of the model’s courtyards. It might be a new elevated cloister surrounding the Quad, but its size is too small and its nearby windows do not match up with that Quad.

Option B: Lacock Abbey

Siutated in the scenic Cotswolds, one of the most well-known Harry Potter filming locations is the quaint Wiltshire village of Lacock, which featured in a few films as Harrys parents house, Slughorns house, and of course, Hogwarts! So, where was Hogwarts filmed in Lacock?

Well, Lacock Abbey is where youll find a bunch of classrooms , some notable corridors , the room housing the Mirror of Erised, and even the Hogwarts Study Hall, which was the Chapter House in Lacock Abbey.

I had the pleasure of visiting Lacock Abbey last Fall, when the peak season crowds had dwindled and all that remained was undisturbed magic Truly, strolling through this cloister felt a bit like my own personal visit to Hogwarts Castle, and I would recommend visiting just before closing time to see it this empty.

Salazar Slytherin Left But Not Before

The Hogwarts Castle Quiz

…he built the Chamber of Secrets. The story goes that the hidden chamber was kept secret from the other founders, and was sealed until Slytherins true heir arrived at the school: a student who would be able to unseal the Chamber of Secrets and unleash the Basilisk inside, a huge snake that would purge the school of Muggle-born wizards. Now that is a grudge.

Option F: Other Hogwarts Offices And Classrooms

And last but not least, pretty much all the other notable classrooms and offices not mentioned above were filmed on set at Leavesden Studios.

Luckily, theyre easy to visit for yourself!

During your visit, you get to see famous sets like Dumbledores Office, Umbridges Office, and more, along with mannequins dressed with authentic costumes and props. Its definitely a fun experience that I highly recommend!

He Threatened To Shut Down Hogwarts

While Draco and Harry were mortal enemies during their time in school, their sons became good friends since they were both sorted into Slytherin.

In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Harry kept worrying that Voldemort was going to return, especially after he talked to Dumbledores painting and heard from the centaur Bane that a dark cloud was around Albus.

Harry, of course, assumes that Dracos son Scorpius has something to do with endangering Albus.

Because of this, he tells Minerva McGonagall that she must keep them separated and keep a close eye on Albus with the Marauder’s Map or he would shut down the school.

Minerva, being the strong independent woman she is, denies Harrys request and Harry never shut down the school.

He Lost His Parseltongue Ability

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, it is revealed that Harry can speak Parseltongue, which means that he can communicate with snakes.

This leads everyone to believe that he is the heir of Slytherin and that he is the one who opened the Chamber of Secrets. While he was a Parselmouth, he only got the ability because part of Voldemorts soul was attached to Harry.

After Voldemort struck Harry down in the Forbidden Forrest, the Horcrux inside Harry was destroyed meaning he was no longer able to speak to snakes.

As J.K. Rowling explained in 2007, He loses the ability, and is very glad to do so.

Speaking to snakes may seem like an awesome ability for some, but Harry had always hated the similarities he shared with the Dark Lord.

Godric Gryffindors Legacy Lives On Today Through His Hat

Did Merlin Really Go To Hogwarts?

Godric Gryffindor favoured the virtues of courage and heroism, and has been described by J.K. Rowling as the best duellist of his time both with a wand, and a sword. Thus his legacy lives on with the Sword of Gryffindor, the relic that Harry Potter used to destroy Horcruxes. But he also endures through another object. You see, when the founders became older, they were faced with a problem: how would they ensure that students were sorted into the right House after they were gone? For up until that point, that decision was made by them and them alone. The solution? Godrics hat. The founders decided that the best course of action was for Godric to take off his hat so that all four of them could enchant it to sort students long after their deaths. And lo, the Sorting Hat was born.

Hermione Granger And Ron Weasley

Hermione and Ron have also enjoyed romantic happiness and have two children, Rose and Hugo. Ron joined Harry as an Auror at the Ministry of Magic, where they revolutionized the department. After only two years, Ron left the Ministry to co-manage the wizarding joke emporium Weasleys Wizard Wheezes, alongside his brother George. His greatest achievement to date remains getting his picture on a Chocolate Frog Card.

Hermione was the only member of the original trio to complete her schooling at Hogwarts. After which, she went on to a successful career in the Ministry of Magic. She began her path continuing the work of S.P.E.W. at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, where she promoted better treatment of house-elves. In spite of her slightly-unhinged house elf obsession, she eventually became Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement before rising to the top job of Minister of Magic.

The Castle Itself Was Huge And Complex

Hogwarts has a long history of ancient magic, and Albus Dumbledore admitted that not even he knew all of its secrets. Indeed, much about the design and construction of Hogwarts remains a mystery. Did the founders implement the Anti-Disapparition Jinx? Where did the Room of Requirement come from? Why did they build a school next to a dark and dangerous forest?

It Was Built In Scotland Away From Muggle Eyes

The tenth century was a dangerous time for witches and wizards, who were being persecuted by Muggles hostile to magic. Therefore, Hogwarts was built somewhere in the Scottish Highlands, and concealed with numerous charms and spells to make it impossible for Muggles to trespass. For instead of an enormous school, any passing Muggle would only see ruins and signs warning them of danger.

While in Oxford, you can also pop into the Hogwarts infirmary, which filmed on location at the Oxford Divinity School with its exquisite fan vaulting.

Scenes at the Infirmary for the first two films were shot on location .

It also makes a small cameo appearance in Goblet of Fire, in the scene where McGonagall has to teach the students how to dance leading up to the Yule Ball.

The infirmary was subsequently recreated at Leavesden Studios for its later appearances from the Prisoner of Azkaban onwards.

I got to sneak a peek at this while I was in Oxford and while it looks very different than in the film , it was still a gorgeous stop.

Richard Harris Aka Og Dumbledore Thought Fawkes Was Depicted By A Real Bird

During a portion of the reunion, which featured Daniel Radcliffe and director Chris Columbus , the two recalled filming certain scenes with Harris, aka the OG Dumbledore.

In their conversation, the two shared a laugh while describing filming the scenes that involved Harris and Fawkes, the phoenix that served as Dumbledores animal companion.

In the films, Fawkes is animatronic. But Harris, who was succeeded by Michael Gambon in the films after his death, didn’t know that, according to Columbus and Radcliffe.

“Richard came in and looked at the phoenix, and said ‘wow they train these animals marvelously these days,'” Columbus said.

“We never told him,” Radcliffe said.

“He just thought it was a real bird,” Columbus said.
