How To Make A Nimbus 2000
In the Harry Potter universe, Harry receives a Nimbus 2000 racing broom from Professor McGonagall when he joins the Gryffindor Quidditch team. This is how I made mine for a Harry Potter Halloween party. I’ve entered this in for the Halloween Props competition, feel free to cast a vote if you like this!
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows
Despite the school being overrun by Death Eaters, McGonagall remained at Hogwarts to ensure little harm came to the students. Later during the year, McGonagall was present when Harry, Ron and Hermione returned to Hogwarts searching for Rowena Ravenclaws diadem. She found Amycus Carrow attempting to break into Ravenclaw Tower, claiming his sister Alecto was inside. McGonagall opened the common room and found Alecto unconscious. Amycus revealed that he had been warned Harry would try to break into Ravenclaw Tower and admitted he would project the blame onto the students in the dormitories. When McGonagall refused and Amycus spat in her face, Harry angrily revealed himself and incapacitated the siblings with help from Luna. McGonagall then defeated Severus Snape and banished him from Hogwarts and began to defend the school. She tasked Neville and Seamus to destroy the wooden bridge to prevent Snatchers from sneaking into the school. McGonagall helped evacuate the younger students to Hogsmeade and ordered Pansy Parkinson and all those in favour of giving Harry over to Voldemort in exchange for their lives to leave. She was present to watch Harry defeat Voldemort once and for all and was one of the first people, aside from Ron, Hermione and Ginny, to congratulate him.

The Nimbus 20001 Broomstick
The Nimbus Racing Company didnt stop at the 2000 though! Next on the list was, yep, you guessed it, the Nimbus 2001!
The Nimbus 2001 was a step up in looks and technology. It features slender black and silver colours and was said to be somewhat faster than the 2000!
Although this broomstick is slightly shorter than the 2000, its bristles are longer, and I wonder if it is this addition to the Nimbus 2001 that makes it a faster broom? What are your thoughts on this?
It was released a year after the Nimbus 2000 in 1992 and was the quickest broom in production.
However, the 2001 didnt have the widespread appeal with its launch and many top quidditch players opted to remain loyal to their precious Nimbus 2000s!
This could be although the 2001 was quicker, the former broomstick still had much agility and many had become so accustomed to its performance they just didnt feel the need to purchase an upgrade!
One person of course, who only has the most expensive things in life, and had bought his way into the Slytherin houses quidditch team by his fathering gifting the whole team with Nimbus 2001s, was Draco Malfoy!

Background To The Nimbus 2000
The infamous Nimbus Racing Broom Company were the brainchild of the Nimbus 2000 in 1991. It was the FASTEST broom that was being produced at that time and BOY is it a marvel!
The broom was sleek and sexy with its mahogany handle but was light and rapid! It was expensive though so not all dedicated quidditch players were able to afford one!
One of its best features was the fact that it was protected by magic to avoid it being tampered with during play.
Only the strongest and darkest magic would have the power to bypass its charm, this is an AMAZING broom!
Remember when Harry got his?
It was actually Professor McGonagall who purchased it for Harry as she knew just how good Harry would be playing for team Gryffindor on a fresh Nimbus 2000 broomstick!

Hello. My name is Pat and Im in the middle of a Nimbus 2000 build for my pregnant Harry Potter obsessed 36-year-old daughter Charlotte.
The broom was originally intended to be for a fancy dress quiz evening at the college where she works, but then along came the COVID 19 Coronavirus and the evening function was canceled, but not the Nimbus 2000. Its now destined for babys Harry Potter themed nursery .
Ive been self-isolating from the coronavirus due to underlying health issues so with time on my hands I re-started the broom project to hopefully make a very close replica.
After looking carefully at the many enlarged stills from the movie I realised the original shafts were not made from solid wood but were actually made from laminated bentwood using 2 different wood types, with a solid wood headstock. This laminated construction would have imparted great strength and ensured the broom didnt get easily broken during filming.

A broom would normally be a less-than-ideal Christmas gift, unless, of course, its for a Harry Potter fan and its not just a broomstick, its a Nimbus 2000! Shelby Steins boyfriend of five years, Jared Weissman, took home the House Cup with his gift this year, a broomstick he made from scratch that looks exactly like Harrys Nimbus 2000. It took Jared three weeks to make the broom, made from pine with a mahogany wood stain and polyurethane coat, basket reed and styrofoam circles, and a gold-painted plastic rod for the kickstand. He even hand-painted the Nimbus 2000 logo. Shelby, a Ravenclaw, opened it in front of her family, who had no idea what Jared had been brewing. She told us, Only his parents knew about it and unfortunately we did not get a videotape of the reaction, but I was so excited and even cried a little. I love how accurate it is, since I like to collect prop replicas. Its beautiful! Alas, Shelby doesnt have plans to ride her Nimbus 2000 just yet, but she told us that its displayed in her room on top of a bookshelf.
My room is slowly turning into a Harry Potter fan cave, which Im totally fine with. Once Jared and I get our own place someday I plan to have a special place to display all of my Harry Potter collection items. We were thinking it would be really cool to somehow suspend it in air with fishing wire or something so it looks like its flying!

Adding The Nimbus 2000 Symbol To Your Broom
The logo is particularly important to me to get right . It turns out there are a myriad of ways there to add this sharp logo to your broom:
- Carving the logo into the handle and painting it with gold paint
My favorite method is definitely the decal, for two reasons. One, its really hard to get detail work right whether its with a stencil or hand carving and using a machine cut decal means you can get it just right. And two, its way easier. For sure.
But I couldnt find a good version of the logo anywhere online . And I needed it for the vinyl cutter!
So I took an evening to make a vector version of the Nimbus 2000 logo. I wanted to share it with yall as well so you can use it for making your own Nimbus 2000:

Having A Leg To Stand On
The Nimbus 2000 has golden footrests for the rider to rest upon and as a kickstand for display purposes. Mine are made from 10mm nylon rod. The stand has three parts: the two part yoke section and the U-shaped foot bar . I drew out the design to scale on some card and bent away. Nylon rod can be bent to shape when heated with a heat gun. Gently heat the rod and let it soak in, bend it to shape and then submerge in cold water to set the shape. For the semi-circle shape, use a circular form with the right diameter to bend the rod around. Sand the ends of the yoke sections to a shallow angle to meet the rounded rod at the right position. Secure the pieces together with small screws and fill any gaps smooth with car body filler. The foot rests are 22mm dowel rod that is sanded flat on one side and a 10mm hole drilled off-centre for the rod to insert. The dowel is sanded carefully into a rounded teardrop shape and smoothed out.

Why Are Harry Potter Broomstick Toys Being Sold In Nyc Sex Shops
While walking down New York Citys 8th Avenue, I noticed that a sex shop in theTimes Square area was selling the Harry Potter Nimbus 2000 broomstick for $40 double the online retail price. The toy was prominently placed in the window of the store under a sign that read Adult Toys & Lingerie.
At first, I thought it was a Harry Potter knock-off product, so I doubled checked the spelling and the imagery on the box. I was expecting that instead of Harry Potter it might be something like a Henry Potter broomstick. But it was real and everything checked out.

Its never explicitly stated who paid for this broom, however its likely to have been McGonagall herself as shes the one who made arrangements for Harry to receive it and its unlikely shed have access to Harrys inheritance to use that to pay for the broom due to McGonagall not being his legal guardian.
