What Happened To The Girl Who Played Ginny In Harry Potter?

Alicia Spinnet is one of those minor Harry Potter characters who often appears in the background, but never actually has any lines. Therefore, she has been played by a number of different actresses, although only two actually received credit for the role. According to IMDB, Leilah Sutherland played Alicia Spinnet in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, where she is seen with Harry when he plays his first Quidditch match.

Alicia was a chaser for the Gryffindor quidditch team and became a member of Dumbledore’s Army in the books, although it’s unclear whether or not she’s part of the villainous club in the films. Rochelle Douglas took over the role for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, again showing up during a Quidditch related scene. Neither Sutherland or Douglas have any other acting credits, but Douglas is a former international gymnastics champion and current girl’s gymnastics coach for Europa Gym in Crayford, a town about 20 miles east of London.

Costume And Set Design

Production designer Stuart Craig returned for the sequel to design new elements previously not seen in the first film. He designed the Burrow based on Arthur Weasley‘s interest in Muggles, built vertically out of architectural salvage. Mr. Weasley’s flying car was created from a 1962 Ford Anglia 105E. The Chamber of Secrets, measuring over 76 metres long and 36.5 metres wide, was the biggest set created for the saga. Dumbledore’s office, which houses the Sorting Hat and the Sword of Gryffindor, was also built for the film.

Lindy Hemming was the costume designer for Chamber of Secrets. She retained many of the characters’ already established appearances, and chose to focus on the new characters introduced in the sequel. Gilderoy Lockhart’s wardrobe incorporated bright colours, in contrast with the “dark, muted or sombre colours” of the other characters. Branagh said, “We wanted to create a hybrid between a period dandy and someone who looked as if they could fit into Hogwarts.” Hemming also perfected Lucius Malfoy’s costume. One of the original concepts was for him to wear a pinstripe suit, but was changed to furs and a snake head cane in order to remark his aristocrat quality and to reflect a “sense of the old.”

Harry Potter Actors Who Were Recast

From minor characters like Angelina Johnson to Lord Voldemort himself, the Harry Potter films had quite a few roles that ended up being recast.

With an eight film franchise, there were bound to be a few recasts along the way in the Harry Potterseries. Since many of the films came out before the book series was finished, some Harry Potter actors were cast when little information was known about their roles and where they’d end up. Even if the character they were playing had a name, if they didn’t have any lines or weren’t featured, they were just considered background actors and were cast accordingly.

However, seeing as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the first film in the franchise, made almost $1 billion worldwide, Warner Brothers had a lot riding on the continued success of the series. Many seemingly minor characters went on to play larger roles in the later books, and by extension, later films in the franchise. Some actors were replaced because they weren’t experienced or talented enough, while others simply became involved in other projects.

Whatever the reason, the films only got better after Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when David Yates took over as director. Hopefully, with Yates at the helm of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise, there will be little need for as much actor turnover as its predecessor experienced .

Here are 15 Harry Potter Actors Who Were Recast.

Ginny Weasley Bonnie Wright

Bonnie Wrights Ginny Weasley portrayal is definitely a source of debate within the Harry Potter fandom, but she has also kept busy post Potter. Shes starred in a few smaller movies, including a 2018 retelling of A Christmas Carol, but shes also moved behind the camera and has written, directed and produced a few shorts.

From tragic deaths to behind-the-scenes drama, some actors had to be replaced during the course of making the movies.

There are the obvious ones, such as Michael Gambon taking over as Professor Dumbledore when Richard Harris tragically died, but many fans might not know who originally played Lord Voldemort.

Magical Abilities And Skills

Hermione is portrayed during the whole series as an exceptionally talented young witch. J.K. Rowling has stated that Hermione is a “borderline genius.” She received ten O.W.L.s, which were nine Outstandings and one Exceeds Expectations. She is the best student in Harry’s year and is repeatedly the first student to master any spell or charm introduced in her classes and even from more advanced years, as evidenced when she can conjure a Protean Charm on the D.A.’s fake Galleon coins, which is a N.E.W.T. level charm. She is also the first one of her age to be able to cast non-verbal spells. Hermione is a competent duellist Rowling has stated that while during the first three books Hermione could have beaten Harry in any magical duel, but by the fourth book Harry had become so good at Defence Against the Dark Arts that he would have defeated Hermione. Hermione did not tend to do as well in subjects that were not learned through books or formal training, as broom flying did not come as naturally to her in her first year as it did to Harry, and she showed no affinity for Divination, which she dropped from her third-year studies. She was also not good at Wizard’s Chess, as it was the only thing at which she ever lost to Ron.
