Along with a Hogwarts letter, many fans have been eagerly awaiting a revival of the fantasy franchise for quite some time. However, it seems the retrospective special is the only project currently in the works. While rumors swirled about a scripted show earlier this year, HBO Max denied having a Harry Potter series in development at the time.
Even if a reboot makes its way to screens someday, its safe to say thered be some casting shakeups. Many of the actors, including Radcliffe, have previously said theyd prefer not to reprise their exact roles in a reboot.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
Set in 1926 and inspired by an in-universe textbook of the same name written by J.K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sees Newt Scamander go on an adventure to help an abused and neglected boy named Credence and locate some of his missing creatures. David Yates once again returns to the world of Harry Potter, but this time, way before the events of the first eight films.
We meet a bunch of new characters in this one. Along with Newt, we meet American witches and wizards like Tina and her sister, Queenie , muggle/no-maj baker Jacob , and Colin Farrell as Percival Graves a wizard detective who is not quite what he seems. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them acts as a way to expand the Potterverse.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Childis an original play that was written by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany in which Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, Ronald Weasley, and Hermione Granger had grown up and had children. The play was set after the events of the main Harry Potter series and followed one of Harry Potters children, Albus Severus Potter. The plot of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child revolves around Albus using the time turner to go back to when his father was still attending Hogwarts and as a result, altering history for a time. Part of the story is a fun what if? style tale, altering some of the classic Harry Potter stories fans know and love, all with the backdrop of Voldemorts possible return.
Harry Potter & The Cursed Child’s Release Date Is Unconfirmed
Since nothing has been confirmed by either Warner Bros. or JK Rowling, there is no way to predict when a new Harry Potter movie or TV show might be released. However, an adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is not entirely out of the question. The Potter Universe has struggled lately with the Fantastic Beasts franchise, but bringing back Watson, Radcliffe, and Grint could tempt fans into giving new Potter content a chance. Whether or not Chris Columbus can live out his fantasy by making Harry Potter and the Cursed Child or some other new content, the idea hinges entirely on whether the original HP trio wants to make a return and that won’t happen any time soon.

Originally scheduled for a single theatrical release, on 13 March 2008, Warner Bros. announced that the film adaptation of Deathly Hallows would be split into two parts to do justice to the book and out of respect for its fans. Yates, director of the previous two films, was confirmed to return as director, and Kloves was confirmed as screenwriter. For the first time in the series, Rowling was credited as a producer alongside Heyman and Barron, however Yates noted that her participation in the filmmaking process did not change from the previous films. Pre-production began on 26 January 2009, while principal photography began on 19 February at Leavesden Studios, where the previous six instalments were filmed. Pinewood Studios became the second studio location for shooting the seventh film.

HBO Max streamed the Harry Potter movies when it launched in summer 2020. See, WarnerMedia owns the Harry Potter film franchise. However, the corporation sold the broadcast and cable rights to NBCUniversal, which owns Peacock. But WarnerMedia borrowed them back likely for a hefty fee so that its new streaming service could launch with some big titles.
Then, the Harry Potter movies moved back to Peacock, where they streamed on and off through 2021. They returned to HBO Max over the summer. In October, both streamers have them.
And then who knows what will happen in 2025, when NBCUniversal’s TV rights lapse.

Daniel Radcliffe won’t be returning for Harry Potter & The Cursed Child. Out of the entire cast, Radcliffe has been the most adamant about the fact that he’s not ready to jump back into his titular role yet. It’s understandable, given that Harry Potter‘s the Boy Who Lived had a slow start with his career outside of Harry Potter and has only just begun to shed the persona as a whole. The idea was brought up to the actor during an interview with The New York Times. Radcliffe went on to say, “I’m getting to a point where I feel like I made it out of Potter okay, and I’m really happy with where I am now,”. He then went on to compare his role to that of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Harrison Ford as Han Solo, basically saying that they were allowed at least 30 years before returning to their defining parts. This should at least give hope to audiences that while Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t want to make another Harry Potter movie any time soon, he could still be open to it in future.
