His Giant Heritage Was A Secret At First
While it may seem obvious by his size alone that Hagrid is a giant, his giant bloodline was actually kept a secret from most for quite a while. Since Hagrid is half-human and half-giant, he doesn’t look like most giants that the wizarding world is used to seeing. He also acts like a human more or less, and is able to pass at Hogwarts as;a larger-than-life professor.
In The Goblet of Fire, Rita Skeeter published an article talking about Hagrid’s giant heritage and his supposedly evil ways. This got parents of Hogwarts students up in arms, calling for Hagrid to be fired, and worrying for their children’s safety. All of the hatred almost caused Hagrid to resign, but thankfully his friends convinced him otherwise.
Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
Following the resignation of Silvanus Kettleburn, who, according to Dumbledore, wanted to spend time with his remaining limbs, Hagrid is assigned to teach the subject of Care of Magical Creatures in the third novel. He is also allowed to perform magic again since his name has been cleared after the events of the previous book. During his first class, in which he introduces the hippogriffs to third-years, one of the beasts, Buckbeak, attacks Draco Malfoy after the boy insults it. Although Dumbledore manages to prove that Hagrid is innocent, the Ministry of Magic sentences Buckbeak to death. Thus, Hagrid’s classes become extremely boring, and Harry, Ron, and Hermione spend some time looking for information that would help Hagrid in Buckbeaks defence. Near the end of the book Hermione and Harry use a time-turner to save Buckbeak from death and Sirius Black from the Dementor’s Kiss.
The National Gamekeepers’ Organisation
In 1997, the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation was set up for the same reasons and in addition they felt that the main shooting association was not representing the keepers properly. The NGO now has some 15,000 members. The NGO run industry-based training for keepers and were the first organisation to react to EU legislation with regards to game meat hygiene producing a course for experienced keepers and stalkers which had approval from the Food Standards Agency. The NGO continue to promote gamekeeping, stalking, shooting and fishing. Its chairman is Lindsay Waddell, a gamekeeper from Co. Durham. The NGO also have dedicated moorland and deer branches.

Hagrid Has An Evil Twin
Hagrid does actually have a half-brother: the giant Grawp , whom he hides in the Forbidden Forest after his visit to the giants. Hagrids mother, Fridwulfa, had Grawp after she returned to the giants, and although he is sixteen feet tall, he was bullied among his kind for being too short, which is why Hagrid brought him home to take care of him.
There was another brother mentioned in the books, however;;Dirgah, Hagrids evil twin. In Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, there was a rumor among the students that Dirgah was hiding in the forbidden corridor, which is why it was off-limits. However, this turned out to be just a school rumor, as we all know that the corridor was actually off-limits because it housed the obstacles leading to the Philosophers Stone. The name Dirgah;is simply Hagrid spelt backwards. It would have made for an interesting plot twist if Hagrid really did have an evil twin, though!
He Is Taller Than You Think
When the Harry Potter;series was adapted into movies, a lot of details;were under consideration. There are many magical elements involved, and some things inevitably had to be altered – like Hagrid’s height. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Hagrid is described a being 11 1/2 feet tall, with “hands the size of trash can lids.” This makes sense, seeing as how Hagrid is half giant, but for movie purposes they scaled Hagrid down drastically.
In the films, Hagrid is only about 8 feet tall. This makes it much easier to frame him in shots, seeing as how Hagrid is often around regular-sized people. The smaller size also makes Hagrid far less intimidating, and allows for a much more relatable character.

Jk Rowling Always Planned For Hagrid To Carry Harry Out Of The Forbidden Forest At The End Of Deathly Hallows
Speaking in an interview with Daniel Radcliffe included on the Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows – Part 2 Blu-ray, J.K. Rowling revealed that she had always planned for Hagrid to carry Harrys seemingly lifeless body out of the Forbidden Forest during the Battle of Hogwarts. She explained that Hagrid carrying Harry at the end was symbolic, because he carried baby Harry when he delivered him to the Dursleys at Privet Drive in the Philosophers Stone. In fact, it stopped her from killing Hagrid off. That image kept him safe, she said. Phew.
He Is Allergic To Cats
Despite Hagrids love of all creatures great and small, there is one furry friend who does not have a welcome spot in the groundskeepers hut: the cat. Rowling has revealed that Hagrid is allergic to our feline friends, and it’s also mentioned in the first book, when he tells Harry that cats make him sneeze. This adds some extra depth to Hagrids interactions with Filch the caretaker and his cat, Mrs. Norris.
The two are polar opposites, with Filch being a thin, sadistic man who hates the students, whereas Hagrid is an enormous man who loves them one has a cat, and one has a dog . Hagrid also believes that Filch has told Mrs. Norris to spy on him, which would be a sneaky thing to do in any circumstances, but is extra cruel given Hagrids allergies. Filch isnt just spying on him; hes intentionally making Hagrid sick!

Can Hagrid Do Magic
Of course he can, though he is not supposed to, at least not in the first two books. In fact, we see him do so twice in the early chapters of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, once when he gives Dudley a pig’s tail, and once when he sends the boat back to the mainland by tapping it with his umbrella. Hermione asks, before Hallowe’en in that same book, whether he has used an Engorgement Charm on the pumpkins in his garden, and he admits to having done so, without directly saying he did use magic. Presumably, once he has been exonerated of the fifty-year old accusation that he had released the monster from the Chamber of Secrets, which happens at the end of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the prohibition against Hagrid’s using magic will have been lifted. However, we are never explicitly told this.
It is true that Hagrid, having been expelled in his third year, will not have as much magic ability as he ought to, and there is no sign of either getting his wand repaired or obtaining a new one. There is no real explanation of this; perhaps it is simply that Hagrid is aware of the lack of training and his resulting lack of magical ability. It is true that Hagrid seems very diffident about many things, and likely his minimal use of magic stems from lack of confidence due to his being surrounded by much more competent witches and wizards.

Hagrid Had A Hard Childhood
Hagrid is another character in the Harry Potter series who had a hard childhood. When he was three years old, his mother, the giantess Fridwulfa, returned to her giant colony, leaving him alone to be raised by his father. Despite their size differences, he had a strong bond with his wizard father Hagrid even used to put his father on the top of his dresser when he was annoyed with him. However, his father, sadly, passed away when Hagrid was in his second year of Hogwarts.

He Is Older Than He Appears
Pottermore has given Harry Potter fans a lot of valuable information about their favorite characters. One thing we learned is that Hagrid was born December 6th, 1928. This may seem like a small detail, but it is worth pointing out, especially in regards to the film adaptations.
In the movies, Hagrid has a relatively young appearance. When filming the final movie, Robbie Coltrane was 58 years old. In the books, in Harry’s final year at Hogwarts, Hagrid would have in fact been 70 years old. While this difference isn’t wildly drastic, it’s worth noting that Hagrid is definitely entering old age by the time the series ends. The films did add small details, like grey hairs, to age Hagrid a little more.
Hagrid Is A Surprisingly Tragic Character
Although Hagrid often provides a little comic relief , and is a very warm, positive character overall, hes also a deeply tragic figure. His mother left him when he was only three, and while his father did a good job of raising him as a single parent, Hagrid was aware throughout his life that his father was heartbroken. His father then died when Hagrid was still only around twelve making him functionally orphaned at a very young age.
As a half-giant, he has dealt with prejudice and loneliness his entire life, and any other family members disowned Hagrid and his father because of his fathers decision to marry a giant. This prejudice followed Hagrid to school, where he was largely a loner, and was wrongly accused of a major crime that led to his expulsion. At sixteen, Hagrid was friendless, orphaned, and disgraced, unable to use magic and without anywhere to turn other than to Dumbledore, who saved him by managing to give him a position at the school. We love Hagrid, but his story is not a happy one, and highlights some of the major issues with prejudice in the wizarding community.

Relationships With Other Characters
During Harry’s fourth year, he developed a romantic relationship with the half-giant headmistress of Beauxbatons, Madame Maxime.
He has generally been friendly with Harry, Ron, and Hermione through the series. His opinion is valued by Dumbledore, who allowed Hagrid to stay as Grounds Keeper after being expelled.
Hagrid has deep respect to Professor Dumbledore. Anyone who dared tried to insult or hurt Dumbledore in his face suffered Hagrid’s wrath. For example, when Vernon Dursley insulted Dumbledore by calling him a “crackpot old fool”, Hagrid retaliates by giving Dudley a pig’s tail. Hagrid hates the Dursleys as he angrily calls them out on their abuse and even aimed his umbrella at Vernon when he insulted Harry’s parents.

And Is Connected To Alchemy
Hagrid and Dumbledore may come from Old English, but the first names of these two key characters also tell an interesting tale. Rubeus comes from the Latin word “rubinus”, meaning red. Albus, meanwhile, comes from “alba”, meaning white. Red and white are mystical components of alchemy, and are often used to represent two sides of human nature. As Harrys two father figures, it makes sense that Hagrid and Dumbledore be linked in this way.
According to Rowling herself, the choice to make Hagrid red and Dumbledore white is closely linked to their personalities. Rubeus Hagrid and Albus Dumbledore both hugely important to Harry, seem to me to represent two sides of the ideal father figure he seeks; the former is warm, practical and wild, the latter impressive, intellectual, and somewhat detached. This is just one more example of the incredible level of detail and thought that went into Rowlings world, and the way that she names her main characters.
Is Hagrid Dead In Harry Potter And The Cursed Child
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place during Albus Potters first year back at Hogwarts. This would set it in the year 2017. During this time Hagrid was still present and teaching in Hogwarts and he would be for another two years.
We also know Albus met him since the books mention that Hagrid invited him for tea in his hut during the first day of school. Despite this, Hagrid didnt actually make an appearance in the plot of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Since Hagrid was such an important part of Harrys school life and the fact that it was hinted that he would be there for the Cursed Child, so when the play was released and Hagrid wasnt in it many fans were surprised by that.
This is why many people assumed Hagrid was dead or maybe gone by the time the play takes place. This is not the truth and there are many characters that suffered the same treatment.;
One such character is Neville Longbottom, who we know is a teacher at Hogwarts during the time where Cursed Child takes place. However, that doesnt mean that he isnt alive or has suddenly disappeared.
There is a simple explanation for this and it has to do with the medium it was interpreted in. Since the Cursed Child is actually a screenplay made for that particular medium and a novel like the original book series there is no way J.K.Rowling could have fit the same amount of information and plot into it.

How Did They Make Hagrid Look So Big In Harry Potter
We all know and love Rubeus Hagrid: Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts, lover of strange magical creatures, and fierce supporter of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. With half of his genes coming from a giant, this is no small man. In the books he is said to be almost 12 feet tall, and in the movies he appears around 8 feet tall. There are certainly no 8-foot-tall actors in Great Britain, so how did they make Hagrid so tall?
He Was An Orphan Like Harry
Hagrid may speak about his parents often, but from a very young age he was orphaned, just like Harry. In fact, Hagrid may have an even sadder tale of losing his parents. When he was only a baby, Hagrid’s mother abandoned him. We are left to believe that his father raised him, which he did for the most part. Hagrid talks about his father, describing him as a “tiny little bloke” and said that “
Sadly, Hagrid’s dad passed when he was just 12 years old, and only Hagrid was left. It wasn’t until later in life that Hagrid found his half-brother, Grawp.

Hagrid’s Powers And Personality Are Inconsistent
So far, the evidence all seems circumstantial at best, and arguably runs counter to J.K. Rowling’s portrayal of Hagrid in the books. The problem, however, is that Rowling’s version of Hagrid isn’t exactly consistent. For all Hagrid may have been one of Dumbledore’s closest allies, he has a pretty harsh attitude towards Muggles; he performs illegal magic on Dudley Dursley in;Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and repeatedly refers to the Dursleys as “filthy Muggles” throughout the entire series. That seems to be the worst insult Hagrid could think of, which perhaps testifies to his own prejudices.
Meanwhile, Hagrid’s normal bumbling and slightly witless manner is at odds with his mission for Dumbledore in;Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. When recounting the story of his adventures convincing the giants to side with them in the war to Harry, Hagrid unwittingly demonstrates;strong situational awareness, brilliant judgment, and an ability to negotiate and lie: he recognizes trained Ministry of Magic agents who are shadowing his team, and deploys counter-surveillance techniques to throw them off; and, his negotiations with the Giants are conducted with a degree of caution and empathy that’s quite remarkable, especially when the trip should be an emotional one for Hagrid. This tale should naturally lead readers to question whether there could be more to Hagrid than meets the eye.
