What she didnt realise was that there were already 13 witches and wizards sat at the table, if you included Peter Pettigrew in Rons pocket

Dumbledore stood up to greet Trelawney, therefore making him the first of the 13 to get up from dinner. Sure, it could be a coincidence, or it could have been a nod about Dumbledores fate from J.K. Rowling. Clever!

Can Dumbledore See Through The Cloak Of Invisibility

Dumbledore is a very powerful wizard, but even he has limits. He should not be able to see through the cloak. Although J.K. Rowling mentioned he used a spell when seeing Harry and Ron at Hagrids, it would go against everything she wrote on the cloak!

Dumbledore was expecting Harry, so he could have guessed when he heard the door open and footsteps that Harry had entered the room and stood in front of the mirror. Harry most likely removed his cloak once inside the room, and Dumbledore noticed him.

And then there was Hagrids cottage. Dumbledore noted the two extra teacups, as well as other signs of a visitor.

Dumbledore is aware that only three pupils pay visits to Hagrid, and only one of them has an invisibility cloak. Looking around the corner was also a good guess.

Dumbledore expected them to move as far away from the door as possible, so he looked to the farthest corner.

If there are any other exceptions, Im sure Dumbledores keen perception and understanding that only Harry has a perfect invisibility cloak can explain them.

Harry Potters History With The Cloak

Harry Potter is spellbound when he first receives the cloak as a gift for Christmas. He and Ron wear it several times and revel in its magical abilities to hide its wearer completely. Harry first uses the Invisibility Cloak during his Christmas vacations to sneak into the school library at night and search for books that have information about the Philosophers Stone in the Restricted Section. However, he is almost caught red-handed, first by Mr. Filch and later by Professor Snape who seems to sense Harrys presence. Harry continues to use it several times throughout the events of the book series sometimes also taking Hermione and Ron with him.

The Quill Of Acceptance

According to Pottermore, the Quill of Acceptance is a magical object which detects the birth of a child with magical capabilities. It is located in Hogwarts School, where it records the children’s names in a large book. Professor McGonagall consults the book and sends out the subsequent Hogwarts acceptance letters by owl once the child turns eleven. It has been made very popular due to its use in registering users for the closed beta of Pottermore.

Arthur Weasleys Flying Ford Anglia

Arthur Weasley owned a 1960 Ford Anglia 105E that he subsequently enchanted consequently, the vehicle can fly, become invisible, and carry the entire Weasley family in spite of its formerly non-enchanted interior dimensions , among other abilities. The enchantment placed on the car also made it semi-sentient. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the car is borrowed by Fred, George and Ron, who use it to rescue Harry from the Dursleys house. Ron and Harry later steal the car in order to return to Hogwarts after the gate to Platform 9¾ is sealed by Dobby. After they arrive at school, landing in the Whomping Willow, the car ejects Harry, Ron, and their luggage, then flees into the Forbidden Forest, ignoring Rons pleas for it to come back. Mr Weasley soon faces an inquiry at the Ministry of Magic, as seven Muggles saw the car flying across areas of Central London and the British countryside, and is forced to pay a large fine.

The 1962 Ford Anglia used in the film was acquired by Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, and is currently displayed in the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. A total of 14 Ford Anglias were destroyed during the filming of the scene where the car crashes into the Whomping Willow.

For sound waves, though, such perfect cloaking is possible in principle an object could therefore be made invisible to sonar, for example.

Who Gave Harry Potter The Cloak Of Invisibility

The Cloak was rightfully Harrys and was retained by him after Lord Voldemorts defeat as Ignotus last remaining descendant. Harry vowed to pass it down to his children one day, just as his forefathers had.

Dumbledore got Harry Potter the Cloak of Invisibility as a Christmas gift a decade after his fathers death, and advised him to use it well.

As the Cloak of Invisibility assisted Harry on numerous travels and adventures, particularly his hunt for Lord Voldemorts Horcruxes, this would be one piece of advice he would use quite well throughout his school life and beyond.

It wasnt until 1998 that Harry discovered the true origins of his Invisibility Cloak and its real identity as the Cloak of Invisibility, as mentioned in the Deathly Hallows tale.

The Cloak of Invisibility is particularly potent. It is impervious to jinxes, hexes, and other spells that would ordinarily harm or make an invisibility cloak useless.

A Death Eaters Summoning Charm, for example, had no effect on eliminating the Cloak of Invisibility just before the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998, while Harry, Ron, and Hermione were huddled beneath it.

It has also remained entirely successful throughout its seven-century existence, unlike other cloaks, which lose their power over time. It was unaffected by even the Thiefs Downfall.

Properties Of The Invisibility Cloak

A lasting characteristic of this capable piece of clothing is the fact that it doesnt wear down over time with age and use.

As the name suggests, it makes anything under the material completely invisible.

This allows the user to sneak around undetected, even a powerful and dark individual.

As you can probably tell, its a useful and sometimes even necessary object when dealing with Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

Invisible material is usually woven out of hair from Demiguises, which is a magical creature that can turn invisible with the properties of its natural coat.

Standard materials can also gain this property through the use of a kind of enchantment.

Normally, Disillusionment Charms and Bedazzling Hexes can disguise someone or something as the surroundings.

However, these effects wear down over time.

In addition to the Cloak of Invisibilitys lasting invisible properties, it has more than normal. It protects the wearer against hexes, jinxes, and various harmful spells that would make normal invisibility cloaks useless.

For example, Thiefs Downfall at Gringotts failed to reveal the wearer.

Unfortunately, it doesnt protect from individually targeted spells.

Any detection methods not dependent on optical sight could actually reveal the user.

While the abilities of this object are quite incredible, where do they come from?

Additionally, the only way to fully understand how Harry received the cloak is to understand where it actually came from.

The Cloak Of Invisibility

The Tale of the Three Brothers, a wizarding legend, speaks of a Cloak of Invisibility which Xenophilius Lovegood characterised as one which “endures eternally, giving constant and impenetrable concealment, no matter what spells are cast at it.”

According to the legend, Ignotus Peverell was given the cloak by Death in the 13th century as a reward for having bested him. However, in his introduction to The Tales of Beetle the Bard, Albus Dumbledore speculated that its more likely that Ignotus and his brothers were highly talented wizards who created the Hallows themselves. Whatever the truth, the cloak became a family heirloom and was inherited by Ignotus’ descendents, including James Potter and eventually his son, Harry Potter who was given it as a gift on Christmas day 1991.

In 1997, Ron Weasley was the first to speculate that Harry’s cloak was the cloak of legend, since it was still in perfect condition despite being at least two generations old. Other invisibility cloaks of similar age would have worn out or, at least, become less effective yet Harry’s remained as good as new. Ordinary cloaks would have, over time, become visible, ripped, had their enchantments worn off, or had been countered with other spells.

How Did James Potter Get The Cloak Of Invisibility

James Potter inherited the Cloak of Invisibility from his father Fleamont Potter. Fleamont was a descendant of Hardwin Potter who married Iolanthe Peverell, the only daughter of one of the descendants of Ignotus Peverell, the original owner of the Cloak of Invisibility. James, like Harry, used the cloak for interesting escapades from the castle of Hogwarts.

Dumbledore Also Gives Harry The Resurrection Stone

During the first book, Harry Potter catches a Golden Snitch by swallowing it during his first Quidditch match. Later, Potter discovers Dumbledore hid the resurrection stone within that snitch. After Dumbledore’s death, his will leaves the resurrection stone-containing snitch to Harry.

“To Harry James Potter, I leave the Snitch he caught in his first Quidditch match at Hogwarts, as a reminder of the rewards of perseverance and skill,” his will reads.

For a while, Harry is unable to open the snitch. A sentence merely appears on the golden sphere, “I open at the close.”

But at the end of the final book when Potter is walking to his death match with Lord Voldemort, he’s finally able to open the snitch by whispering “I am about to die.” Inside, he finds the resurrection stone, the stone that was part of the Tale of Three Brothers. Harry is then able to see all of his deceased family members before what he believes is to be his final fight with Lord Voldemort.

Did Dumbledore Have All 3 Deathly Hallows

Yes. At one point in time, Professor Dumbledore did possess all three of the Deathly Hallows. He had already owned the Elder Wand since 1945, which was the year he defeated Gellert Grindelwald in a historic duel. He had obtained the next Hallow when he collected the Gaunt ring from where it was hidden by Lord Voldemort as a Horcrux, which also contained in it, the Resurrection Stone. He obtained the third and final Hallow when he borrowed James Potters Invisibility Cloak to study it.

It was later borrowed by Dumbledore to study its properties and to verify if it was actually a Deathly Hallow. Dumbledore later decided to rightfully hand the cloak to Harry and therefore sent it as a Christmas gift.
