How Good Are The Harry Potter Movies

Don't Miss

Deathly Hallows Part 1

Harry Potter – All Movies Reviewed and Ranked (part 1)

The Tale of the Three Brothers slaps, but beyond that, this movie is a lot of camping and set up for Part 2.

We appreciate the cinematography, acting, and character development , but its just not as exciting or re-watchable as others.

Also Dobby and Hedwig die in the same movie?! Its too much for our hearts.

We LOVE the original it started the whole adventure! Yer a wizard, Harry? ICONIC.

But while Sorcerers Stone is the OG, it still lands just shy of the top half for us. We love the introduction to the magical world, but the story falls a little flatter than others, and Quirrell is the least exciting Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor.

Plus, the acting and chemistry isnt quite up to par yet.

The Quotes That Will Stick With Us Forever

While the plot often takes centre stage, it’s also worth paying attention to the beauty of the writing. So many sections of the books are quotable and relatable to share at all times of life. Here are some of our favourites: “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live”, “But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light,””We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” And then of course the classic that started this whole magical journey off: “You’re a wizard, Harry.”

‘harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince’

The sixth movie in the series sees a brilliant balance of light-hearted comedy as Ron and Harry start to discover the opposite sex with hilarious consequences, and drama as we discover more about Snape’s backstory. Tom Felton is outstanding as Malfoy as his role within the Death Eaters steps up a gear, while actor Jim Broadbent delivers a goofy Professor Slughorn to perfection.

This is also the film where Harry shares his first kiss with Ginny, and Dumbledore meets an untimely end after Snape’s shocking “betrayal”. The only thing missing is Voldermort’s back story, which stands out as some of the more important parts of J.K Rowling’s sixth book which has been oddly left out of the film.

The Costumes And Descriptions

One of the main reasons that the series has become so loved is it’s attention to detail and the costumes, clothing choices and descriptions of the characters. Think Harry’s lightening-shaped scar, his broken glasses and his “mother’s eyes”. Umbridge’s saccharine aesthetic which is so different to her cold elitist approach to governing and the differing appearances of Durmstrang, Beauxbatons and Hogwarts students. Yes, the film franchise has helped us grasp this, but the way that Rowling included and focused on character aided the magic of the story.

‘harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Part 2

Another Harry Potter sequel in the making?

It’s the climax of all the films, bringing together the story in one final battle for Hogwarts, and while we didn’t want the series to end, this has got to be the most fitting finish we could have hoped for. All the loose ends of the story are neatly tied up with a bow, and the moment fans have been waiting for finally arrives when Harry finishes off Voldermort in epic style.

Fans are also treated to a glimpse into the future as we see Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermionie back on Platform 9 and three quarters waving off their own children as they board the Hogwarts Express… we challenge any die-hard Potter fan to watch the end of this film without a tear in their eye.

Deathly Hallows Part Two

Coming out in the summer of 2011 and as the eighth and final movie in the series, The Deathly Hallows part two did a great job of tying the series to a close.

As the second part of the Deathly Hallows, the movie shows fans what theyve been wanting since finding out about Voldemort: an epic showdown between the two. It couldnt have been better.

There were so many great moments in the movie: The epic bridge collapse as Voldemorts Army charges Hogwarts, Neville slaying Voldemorts snake Nagini on the staircase and Harry and Voldemorts final battle together.

The Deathly Hallows part two is a powerful and emotional conclusion to the beloved Harry Potter series. The only part I hated was that Fred was done dirty.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

At 161 minutes, Chamber of Secrets is the longest film of the franchise, and perhaps not so coincidentally its also the last film to try and fit everything from the book into the movie. Director Chris Columbus expands on the world he built so beautifully in the first film with a slightly darker and much more plot-heavy sequel, and while the film isnt bad per se, its definitely the most laborious of the bunch.

Though its certainly too long and meanders in places, theres still much to like about Chamber of Secrets. Columbus nails the realization of Dobby, toeing the fine line between mischievously funny and irritating to deliver a visually impressive and genuinely adorable CG character. Columbus also does a fine job at further defining the wizarding world with issues like the pureblood cause and Hogwarts dark past. But while Chamber of Secrets is enjoyable enough , it doesnt quite live up to the brilliance of the rest of the franchise.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Ah, Deathly Hallows, Part 1: perhaps the most divisive movie in the franchise. How do you feel about watching three teenagers bicker in the forest for a few hours? What if two of those characters take a dance break seemingly designed to enrage or tantalize fans, depending on which characters you ship?

There are things to adore in this movie, like the breathtaking animation of the Tale of the Three Brothers. And director David Yates does beautifully capture the frustrations of Harrys Horcrux mission. The scenes in which Harry, Ron and Hermione aimlessly walk through empty fields and abandoned parking lots, a fuzzy voice on the radio rattling off the names of the dead as they wander capture the book perfectly.

But Part 1 spends very little time during those quiet conversations exploring who Dumbledore was and his connection to the Deathly Hallows, three magical tools that are crucial to the final fight in the following film. That may seem like nerdy nitpicking. But good genre fiction distinguishes itself from bad genre fiction by imbuing its McGuffins with actual meaning. If Harry doesnt have a personal connection to the Elderwand through Dumbledore, then hes just chasing some meaningless shiny object. Such scenes also could have given the audience more time with Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort, who shines in Part 2 as one of the greatest onscreen villains of all time.

Helen Mccrory Was In Awe Of The Final Showdown Between Harry And Voldemort

During the 2011 EW press panel, Helen McCrory spoke about how epic the final battle scene was.

“The culmination of Harry looking at Voldemort, and all of us being present in that scene that we did with all those extras they were really there, the place was on fire it was extraordinary,” she said “… We filmed it in real time. It really happened, and it was a privilege to be there. It was electric.”

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Due to off-screen legal issues, Johnny Depp has since exited the franchise as silver-tongued, entrancing dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, but this weighty prequel goes all in somewhat to its detriment with “Potter” connections andnumerous bombshells, from debuting Jude Law as a young version of Harry’s wise mentor Dumbledore to a mystery surrounding intensely repressed magical youngster Credence Barebone .

The Prisoner Of Azkaban

The Prisoner of Azkaban is a masterpiece and Ill tell you why. The narration and the pace of the story are very engaging. I never got bored while watching this film. The cinematography and screenplay are both very delightful and fun.

With an immersive and hair-raising atmosphere, director Alfonso Cuaron brought the magic of The Prisoner of Azkaban to life.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets 82%

In his review of The Chamber of Secrets, legendary film critic Roger Ebert writes, The first movie was the setup, and this one is the payoff. And what a payoff! The longest film in the franchise uses its 161-minute run-time to delve deeper into the Hogwarts setting, while further fleshing-out its students and staff, who already have the warm familiarity of old friends. In this decidedly darker adventure, theyre tasked with an intriguing series of mysteries to solve, each one leading to the next: Who is trying to prevent Harry from returning to Hogwarts? What terrifying force is petrifying Muggle-born students? What is the Chamber of Secrets? Its a fascinating puzzle that maintains a breathless pace throughout. Although this is our last glimpse of Richard Harris as the definitive Dumbledore, its ultimately Kenneth Branagh who steals the show as lovably flamboyant fraud, Gilderoy Lockhart.

These silly Harry Potter jokes are sure to make you smile.

‘harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Part 1

By the time the films get to the Deathly Hallows double bill, things are really picking up, action-wise. However, the first installment of J.K Rowling’s final book seems to simply be setting the scene for the final showdown, and let’s face it, there is a lot of setting up to be done.

The first half of the movie is fairly pacey and it is nice to see Ron, Hermionie, and Harry in the muggle world for a change, but soon they are flitting from one location to another trying to track down the Horcruxes, and we’re still not ready to talk about THAT beach scene with Dobby.

While it’s hard to judge a film as a standalone movie when it is only one half of a book is hard, it had to be said that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are outstanding in this film, standing out from the crowd as they make a move away from the rest of the cast and carry the film along.

Review: The Harry Potter Franchise From The Eyes Of Someone Who Never Wanted To Watch The Movies

All the Reasons Why Harry Potter Chose Ginny over Hermione | OSSA Movies

I somehow managed to make it to age 21 without ever sitting through an entire Harry Potter movie. A 10-year-old version of Hannah attempted to read the series I read Book 1 and part of the second book during one summer but was not intrigued enough to continue. This book and film franchise consumed my peers during my adolescence, although I never understood why. My mom would watch a movie or two when ABC Family would show the entire franchise back-to-back over a weekend, but I never made it more than 15 minutes.

Now as a young adult, my boyfriend is forcing me to watch all of the movies. He is arguably a Harry Potter nerd, but not to the extent that hes wearing a cape and waving around a wand.

So far, we have watched all the movies through Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I enjoyed the charms of the first couple movies where the exposition focused on Harry returning to Hogwarts from his awful Uncles home.

This may be a very muggle thing to say, but where is Child Protective Services? And why does Dumbledore and Hagrid send Harry back to these people when they quite obviously do not care for the boy?

Anyway, I liked the consistency of the movies starting out with the trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione reuniting on the journey back to school. This disappeared as directors changed and the franchise developed.

The worst movie by far is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Don’t Miss: Hermione Granger Beaded Bag

‘harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets’

This isn’t dead last because house-elf Dobby is the Jar Jar Binks of the “Potter”-verse. The underwhelming second installment unleashes a monstrous Basilisk on the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but other than bringing in family members of the antagonistic Draco Malfoy , it doesn’t do a whole lot for the overall saga.

The Hobbit One Of The Best Movies Like Harry Potter Series

Based on the 1937 novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit continues the story told in The Lord of The Rings trilogy. Its much darker ad serious in tone, especially considering the fact that the source material is a children book. This, however, is certainly not a childrens movie. There are a lot of dark, stressful moments that only an adult mind can process.

I dont understand the negativity surrounding it. How can one like LOTR and not The Hobbit, considering that the theme is not much different? Dont pay attention to the negative review. Go for it. If you loved LOTR, youll love what The Hobbit series has to offer.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire Didn’t Wow Fans As Much As The Other Films

Audience score: 74%

“Goblet of Fire” is the fourth installment in the “Harry Potter” series.

Although some complained that it felt “episodic,” or like a long “teaser” for the fifth film, others thought it did a fine job ushering in the final chapters of the series.

“A very solid movie in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise. While it may not have been as good as the third, this is the first movie where you get the sense that these characters have matured, and are no longer the same as when we first met them,” audience reviewer Aiden S. wrote.

On The Other Hand Radcliffe Wasn’t A Fan Of His Quidditch Scenes

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

The beloved, fictional sport is fun to watch on screen, but less fun to film, according to Radcliffe.

“Quidditch is right up there with the least fun things I’ve done on ‘Harry Potter,’ certainly,” the actor told IndieLondon in 2009. “It’s not a pleasant experience, it does hurt quite a lot, and it’s not something I would rush back to.”
