Is Harry Potter Good Literature

Don't Miss

Ella Enchanted By Gail Carson Levine

Harry Potter Books. …Any good?

If youve seen the movie but never read the book, do yourself a huge favor and buy it right now. In this young adult fantasy novel, Levine skillfully weaves the tale of Cinderella into a decidedly darker, less Disney-esque tapestry. Our heroine Ella has been cursed to obey every order she receives, even when it endangers her life. She sets off on a quest to reverse the gift, but has to contend with everything from hungry ogres to wicked stepsisters along the way not to mention the constant threat of strangers discovering the curse and using it against her.

Gloriously imaginative and compulsively readable, Ella Enchanted has become just as much of classic as the fairytale it emulates. Its tragically a standalone novel rather than a series, but it could be credited with sparking the modern trend of fairytale retellings. Speaking of which

Completion Of The Series

In December 2005, Rowling stated on her web site, “2006 will be the year when I write the final book in the Harry Potter series.” Updates then followed in her online diary chronicling the progress of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with the release date of 21 July 2007. The book itself was finished on 11 January 2007 in the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, where she scrawled a message on the back of a bust of Hermes. It read: “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 January 2007.”

Rowling herself has stated that the last chapter of the final book was completed “in something like 1990”. In June 2006, Rowling, on an appearance on the British talk show Richard & Judy, announced that the chapter had been modified as one character “got a reprieve” and two others who previously survived the story had in fact been killed. On 28 March 2007, the cover art for the Bloomsbury Adult and Child versions and the Scholastic version were released.

In September 2012, Rowling mentioned in an interview that she might go back to make a “director’s cut” of two of the existing Harry Potter books.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban One Of My Favourite Books

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third installment of the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. The story focuses on Harry Potter, a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and his two best friends, Ron and Hermione on their quest to defeat Voldemort. In the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry finds out that an escaped prisoner named Sirius Black is the man who betrayed Harrys parents, Blacks friends, and revealed where they were hiding to Voldemort, who eventually murdered them. Harry and his friends set out to catch Black after Harry finds out he is his godfather, but it is revealed that a man named Pettigrew, another friend of Harrys parents, betrayed them, and framed Black for the incident.

This books genre is fantasy and mystery, though more fantasy than the latter. Fantasy stories usually include magic, things that are purely fiction, and a conflict of good versus evil. This book includes all three of those characteristics. Magic being the main one, the majority of the characters are wizards or witches and are able to perform magic. The second characteristic, fictionalized elements, are also common in this book. For example, one of the main creatures featured is a Hippogriff, which is a fictional animal with the front half of an eagle and the second half of a horse.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Prisoner of Azkaban is often deemed as one of the very best Potter films and the book is no different. Following Harry, Ron, and Hermione in their 3rd year at Hogwarts as they investigate serial killer Sirius Black, a believed former ally of Voldemort who has escaped Azkaban and is looking for Harry.

The book earned its 4.56/5 from 2,489,864 ratings, with it garnering 48,909 reviews, and 99% of people liking it. 66% gave it 5 stars with 0% giving it 1 or 2 stars. The book has received wide acclaim and is beloved by fans, most everyone sees it better than the first two, and rightfully so, the narrative and characters throughout are great.

Harry Potter’s Epilogue Is A Perfectly Good Happy Ending

After Harry, Ron, Hermione, and everyone else at Hogwarts finally defeat Voldemort once and for all, the characters are finally at peace, and in both the book and film of Deathly Hallows, we see the aftermath years after the fact. Almost 20 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione head back to King’s Cross Station to send their own children off to the magical school, giving audiences a glimpse into the trio’s life beyond Hogwarts.

Though fans loved Deathly Hallows as a whole, upon the book’s release, the epilogue was widely derided, as readers and audiences felt as if it was unnecessary and that it too neatly tied up a series that never shied away from difficult subjects. However, it’s best to remember that, in the end, Harry Potter is a series meant for all ages, and Rowling likely wanted to provide a neat conclusion to the story to satisfy readers young and old, which feels like a pretty impossible task. Ultimately, from a brief glimpse of Draco and his family to the names of our heroes’ children, as well as an admission from Harry to his son, Albus Severus, that being sorted into Slytherin would be okay, the epilogue isn’t actually that bad, and it serves as a sweet and complete ending to the entire series.

Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone

While each movie introduced into society brings a new sense of reality, Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone written by J. K. Rowling and directed by Chris Columbus brought a whole new world into the lives of millions. Not only did the book seem to take the world by storm, the movies seemed to do an even better job at capturing the hearts of both old and young. Harry Potter and friends showed the world a new side of magic that exposed witches and wizards alike. Although this was only the first movie, reviewers raved over the advanced special effects used to entrance the audience. Each country that I researched had almost the same take on Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone as the next one. From the United States to Japan, the young wizard took flight and soared to new heights.

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

Harry first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Starting in 1981, when Harry was just one year old, his parents, James and Lily, were murdered by the most powerful Dark Wizard, Lord Voldemort . He attempted to kill Harry too, but was unsuccessful and only left a lightning bolt shaped scar on Harry’s forehead. Voldemort’s body was destroyed, but his soul was not. Harry later learns that the reason why he survived was that his mother sacrificed herself for him, and her love was something that Voldemort could not destroy.

According to Rowling, fleshing out this back story was a matter of reverse planning: “The basic idea Harry … didn’t know he was a wizard … and so then I kind of worked backwards from that position to find out how that could be, that he wouldn’t know what he was… That’s… When he was one year old, the most evil wizard for hundreds and hundreds of years attempted to kill him. He killed Harry’s parents, and then he tried to kill Harryhe tried to curse him…. Harry has to find out, before we find out. And for some mysterious reason, the curse didn’t work on Harry. So he’s left with this lightning-bolt shaped scar on his forehead, and the curse rebounded upon the evil wizard who has been in hiding ever since”.

Identity Formed By Choices In Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone A Novel Series By Jk Rowling

While the entire Harry Potter series works to establish the identity of the main character, the first installment in J.K. Rowlings bestselling books, entitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, clearly presents a pattern which begins early on in the life of the protagonist, Harry Potter. Contrary to works which might emphasize the influence of coincidence or destiny, it is evident that Harry chooses what his identity will be, rather than letting fate and circumstance determine it for him. As Rowling is introducing readers to the young protagonist, she follows a pattern, especially throughout the first book of the series, in order to illustrate how Harry takes that act of shaping his identity into his own hands.

Upon beginning the novel, readers immediately discover that little eleven-year-old Harry Potter lives with his unsavory Aunt and Uncle Dursley. It is also made apparent that he is rather unloved by his caretakers and is forced to live in a cupboard under the stairs. He is abused and neglected, while his cousin is spoiled and fattened. Come his eleventh birthday, Harry learns he is a wizard and is taken to a whole new magical world with a friendly half-giant named Hagrid. Now he is faced with a choice. Will he choose to trust this new world and these new people, or will he approach this with apprehension and distrust because of the way he has been treated for his entire childhood?

The Kane Chronicles By Rick Riordan

Though hes best known for his Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series, Rick Riordans Kane Chronicles are just as thrilling as their Greek predecessors. The protagonists of this series are Carter and Sadie Kane, siblings whose Egyptologist father reconnects them with their own ancient roots that is, that theyre descended from Egyptian pharaohs and magicians.

After their father is captured by Set, the Egyptian god of evil, Carter and Sadie must tap into parts of themselves they never knew existed and battle unimaginably powerful forces. For those of us who had a childhood obsession with Egyptology , this book is a marvelous source of wish fulfillment and entertainment all the way through.

Harry Potter’s Big Con Is The Prose

It is time to make a stand against Harry Potter. A futile stand, no death or glory involved: just popping my head over the trenches so it can be mowed off by the vast, unstoppable juggernaut of popular acclaim before I have begun to open my mouth.

Firstly: if you’re going to buy her book, don’t buy it for half price at a supermarket. As an example of a world gone mad, you couldn’t do much better than this: a writer whose sales have actually fulfilled a publisher’s wildest dreams is indirectly responsible for large-scale misery among independent bookstores. This is not JK Rowling’s fault. It’s a consequence of the deregulation of the book market.

Tesco, say, sells the new Potter for about the same price as two tins of beans, in the hope that the mugs who do so will be convinced that everything in the shop must be marvellous value. Meanwhile, Mrs Betty Cardigan who runs the Lovely Bookshop Round the Corner has to grit her teeth and lose money every time she sells a copy if she is to compete, without being able to sell toilet paper or sushi to make up the difference. If you must buy the book, go to Mrs Cardigan’s and, even if it is at a discount, insist on paying full price.
