‘Harry Potter’ made household names of Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. IMDB

With the TV special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts set to air on HBO Max on New Years Day, Potter fever has returned with a vengeance.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, the three stars who played Harry, Ron and Hermione, are all set to share their memories of the pop culture phenomenon, and so naturally interest has grown in what the actors are up to now.

While the franchise made household names of the three, other actors who appeared in the films have gone on to enjoy success in front of and behind the camera, including Alfred Enoch, who played Gryffindor Dean Thomas, and Ginny Weasley, played by actress Bonnie Wright, who is now a successful producer and director.

Most successful of all, however, was the actor who only starred in one film, Goblet of Fire. Robert Pattinson, who played murdered schoolboy Cedric Diggory, went on to star in the hugely successful Twilight films and will soon be on the big screen as the new Batman.

Present: The Batman And Return To Mainstream Films

Pattinson’s first 2019 role was Robert Eggers‘s black-and-white psychological horror film The Lighthouse, set on a remote New England island in the 1890s. The film premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, with widespread critical acclaim for both the film overall and Pattinson’s performance. In his review for The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw described Pattinson’s performance as “mesmeric” and a “sledgehammer punch,” which “just gets better and better.” Gregory Ellwood, writing for Collider, said that Pattinson has “topped himself here” and his performance is “so transformative it’s jarring. You simply never thought he had it in him.” He received his second Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Male Lead for the film.

In May 2021, Pattinson signed an overall first-look production deal that encompasses the whole spectrum of Warner divisions, including Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Television, and HBO Max. The deal, which represents the actor’s first foray into producing, also takes into account a range of releasing platforms, among them theatrical, SVOD and television.

Pattinson will next star in Matt Reeves‘s superhero film The Batman as Batman.

Magical Abilities And Skills

Cedric Diggory, who also used the Bubble-Head Charm, was first to return with his hostage, though he returned one minute outside the time limit of an hour. We therefore award him forty-seven points.

Given Cedric’s relatively smooth and successful participation in the Triwizard Tournament, he was a skilful and competent wizard in his own right. He was also an accomplished Quidditch player.

  • Flying: As the Captain and Seeker of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, Cedric was a skilful and accomplished flyer and Quidditch player, especially since the position of Seeker was generally considered to be the hardest position to play. In particular, he was noted to have a very fast swerve. He even defeated Harry Potter once in a match, although this had been due to the presence of Dementors causing Harry to fall off his broom, but many still considered it an impressive display of his flying abilities.
You were the best, you know, no competition. Cedric did this weird thing where he Transfigured a rock on the ground… turned it into a dog… he was trying to make the dragon go for the dog instead of him. Well, it was a pretty cool bit of Transfiguration…

How Old Was Robert Pattinson When He Filmed Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

cedric diggory

Pattinson, who is now 35, was only 18 years old when he was cast as Diggory. The role found him acting directly opposite one of the biggest young stars in the world, Daniel Radcliffe, who was 15 at the time. Pattinsons smile and easygoing manner made him just as likable on screen as his character is in the book, which is why audiences were dreading the tragic moment at the end of the film when Diggory would inevitably be killed by Peter Pettigrew.

Despite his characters untimely end, Pattinson was just getting started. After Potter, he acted in the psychological thriller The Haunted Airman, the one-off television drama film The Bad Mothers Handbook, and the independent dramedy How to Be. Proving that he could handle a variety of cinematic genres, he was also cast as the artist Salvador Dalí in Paul Morrisons Little Ashes.

His breakout role came when Pattinson was tapped to play the sexy, enigmatic vampire Edward Cullen opposite Kristen Stewarts Bella Swan in Twilight. The novel that inspired the film was so wildly popular that Pattinson was initially hesitant to take the role, but when the film was released, his performance was praised by critics despite lackluster reviews for the film itself.

Why Cedric Diggory Is The True Hogwarts Champion

The Triwizard Tournament is an infamous competition between wizarding schools in the Harry Potter universe. The tournament’s first enactment is in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth of the series. One of its explored questions involved evaluating who earned their place as a Triwizard Champion. While Harry is often the remembered victor of the 1994 Triwizard Tournament, the other Hogwarts Champion, Cedric Diggory, is the one who should be solely credited with winning the tournament.

Prior to Harry’s surprise entrance, Cedric Diggory was formally named the Hogwarts Champion. Cedric had been chosen alongside Fleur Delacour from the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and Viktor Krum from the Durmstrang Institute. With Harry’s questionable addition, many began to resent him for doing what so many were prohibited from being able to do. Naturally, a majority of the school began to support Cedric, who they believe is the rightful Hogwarts Champion.

Despite Harry’s questionable entry and Dumbledore’s decision to allow him to compete, Cedric’s name was still chosen to be the Hogwarts Champion. When Cedric’s name was spit from the goblet, it did so with the knowledge that Harry’s name was inside. If Cedric didn’t have a legitimate standing or chance to be the Triwizard Champion, then the goblet wouldn’t have pulled his name to begin with.

What Is Robert Pattinson Working On Now

His wizardry skills were greatly overshadowed once Pattinson became the face of the Twilight series with his role as the brooding vampire, Edward Cullen.

In 2019, Pattinson was announced as the new Batman, set to release in theaters on March 4, 2022.

The film is reportedly three hours long.

Ive never auditioned for any comic book movies before, Pattinson explained to Moviemaker Magazine. And at the time, even my agents thought it pretty out of character to just suddenly get fixated on Batman. And I didnt even really know the status of the project.

Nevertheless, fans are raving over Pattinsons perfect Batman voice.

Harry Potter Killed Cedric Diggory

Amos and Cedric Diggory | Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Bear with me here.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the titular character and a handsome Hufflepuff boy named Cedric Diggory compete in the Triwizard Tournament. Long story short, they end up walking headfirst into Lord Voldemorts evil plan and spoiler alert, one of them ends up dead.

It has long been accepted that Peter Pettigrew aka Wormtail kills Cedric on the orders of Voldemort, and the movie adaptation of JK Rowlings fourth book runs with this without question. But Im pretty sure weve all had it wrong since 2000. Im pretty sure theres one suspect we all over looked: Harry Potter. Lets examine the evidence.

Harry had both the motivation and the opportunity to kill Cedric.

Now, if this were a true crime podcast, youd be expecting that the cops would have arrested Harry right on the spot. But they didnt do that. Even though all the evidence points in Harrys direction, theyre prepared to let this one go without any proper investigation.

This is doubtlessly in no small part to Harrys status as a protectee of Albus Dumbledore who, on multiple occasions, has allowed Harry to break the rules of Hogwarts, and even allowed him to go back in time the year previous. Dumbledore is not impartial when it comes to any matter concern Harry, and once again he uses his influence to shield Harry.

But I know what youre thinking. JK Rowling tells us that Wormtail kills Cedric on Voldemorts orders. But heres the thing.

She doesnt.

Cedric is one of the main characters and ends up representing Hogwarts in the Triwizard Tournament as an honorary Hufflepuff.

Pattinson was only 18 years old when he was cast as Diggory, alongside Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe, who was 15 by the time of the fourth movie.

Pattinson’s quiet charm made it harder for moviegoers to watch when he is inevitably killed off by the end of the movie.

Harry Potter: 10 Reasons Why Harry & Cedric Werent Real Friends

Though Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory experienced a lot together, they were more rivals than friends. Here are a few times their friendship was fake.

Differences From The Book

With the Goblet of Fire novel almost twice the length of Prisoner of Azkaban, the writers and producers reduced certain scenes and concepts to make the transition from page to screen. Director Mike Newell described the problem as one of “compressing a huge book into the compass of a movie”. This was achieved by “putting aside” all the components of the novel which did not directly relate to Harry and his journey.

Goblet of Fire is the first film adaptation not to begin at Privet Drive after the opening sequence, Harry awakens at the Burrow on the morning of the Quidditch World Cup.

The gameplay at the World Cup was removed for timing reasons, leaving an abrupt temporal jump that some reviewers considered awkward or “rushed”. In the book, Harry and many of the Weasleys support Ireland, while in the film Harry and Ron support Bulgaria. Nonetheless, both of them admire the Bulgarian seeker Viktor Krum.

It’s been nearly two decades since Robert Pattinson cemented his status in the “Harry Potter” franchise as Cedric Diggory, a popular Hufflepuff, star Quidditch player, and Triwizard Tournament champion, in the fourth installment, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” Despite his brief time in the Wizarding World due to Cedric’s untimely death at the hands of Lord Voldemort , Pattinson made a lasting mark by bringing Cedric’s good-natured, modest personality to life on the big screen.

In 2008, Pattinson went on to earn a heartthrob title as the brooding vampire Edward Cullen in “Twilight,” the movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s acclaimed book series. Following the dramatic conclusion of the “Twilight” saga with “Breaking Dawn Part 2” in 2012, Pattinson went on to have a successful career in film, appearing in “Good Time,” “The Lighthouse,” and “Tenet.” This is in addition to being cast as the Dark Knight himself in “The Batman.”

Despite his impressive résumé, Potterheads and Twihards will forever associate Pattinson with those fictional teen roles. However, both Cedric and Edward came close to looking much different on-screen.
