When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it’s the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run – and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry’s tea leaves…. But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss….

  • Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

In 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was released, a two-part play written by Jack Thorne based on an original story by Rowling, Thorne, and John Tiffany. Billed as the eighth story in the Harry Potter series, it picks up where the epilogue of Deathly Hallows left off, following an adult Harry Potter and his son, Albus Severus Potter. Previews of the play began at the Palace Theatre, London, on 7 June 2016, and it premiered on 30 July 2016. The play opened on Broadway on 21 April 2018 at the Lyric Theatre, with previews starting on 16 March 2018.

Both parts of the stage play’s script have been released in print and digital formats as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II. The first edition, the Special Rehearsal Edition, corresponded to the script used in the preview shows and was published on 31 July 2016, the date of Harry’s birthday in the series and Rowling’s birthday, as well. Since revisions to the script continued after the book was printed, an edited version was released on 25 July 2017, as the “Definitive Collector’s Edition”. According to CNN, this was the most preordered book of 2016.

    The Deathly Hallows Audiobook Review:

    The Good:

The final instalment in the Harry Potter series will leave fans satisfied, but also sad. It always made me sad whenever I re-read it or listened to it. Sad to think that this was the end. The great thing about the Harry Potter series is that theyre just as good the second time, third time and 67th time! The Deathly Hallows ties up all the loose ends quite neatly, but the audiobook itself is filled with so many twists and turns, its impossible to predict how the story will end. We revisit some key places and characters from all the previous books and a new light is thrown upon some of them. The trio are in more danger than ever. More than they have been in the past 6 books combined, because they are being openly hunted. The magical world turns on them as Voldemort rises to power. Each of the characters face life threatening situations and accomplish amazing feats. *SPOILER* The break in to Gringotts Wizarding Bank is one of my favourite chapters of the whole series. Fantastic writing, incredibly original and very surprising.

    The Bad:

    The Good:

Dobby is the embodiment of selflessness and good will. Its incredible that after all the abuse he received at the hands of wizards, that he was still willing to put his life in danger to rescue some. Dobby was a loyal and loveable character, he adored Harry, basically idolised him and would do anything for him. I loved Dobby so much!

    The Bad:

Thank god the rest of the characters seemed to being doing ok.

    Harry Potter and Philosopher’s Stone | Chapter 10 | Hallowe’en | By Stephen Fry

JK Rowlings Harry Potter series was one of the Noughties biggest publishing events. It grossed many millions in sales, spawned a huge film and merchandising franchise, and led to the opening of its own dedicated theme park in Florida. But the main event was always the books the publication of each one was preceded by a huge build-up with articles in newspapers and magazines from the tabloids to the New York Review of Books, acres of critical commentary, the inevitable backlash as some writers claimed that the books werent as good as they were made out to be as if Rowlings many readers were listening to a word of it and the heart-warming spectacle of children and adults queuing round the block at midnight of the day of publication to get their hands on the little wizards latest adventure. Websites and bulletin boards sprang up all over the internet as fans piled in to discuss their favourite plots, argue about characters and speculate over what was to come next.

That all this fuss was over a book, rather than a film, toy or video game was proof that books and reading were not on their last legs, as the Jeremiahs were eager to claim.

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone Book 1 Publisher’s Summary

“Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake surrounding a large letter ‘H’.”

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Having now become classics of our time, the Harry Potter audiobooks never fail to bring comfort and escapism to listeners of all ages. With its message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

    Online Leaks And Early Delivery

In the week before its release, a number of texts purporting to be genuine leaks appeared in various forms. On 16 July, a set of photographs representing all 759 pages of the US edition was leaked and was fully transcribed prior to the official release date. The photographs later appeared on websites and peer-to-peer networks, leading Scholastic to seek a subpoena in order to identify one source. This represented the most serious security breach in the Harry Potter series’ history. Rowling and her lawyer confirmed that there were genuine online leaks. Reviews published in both The Baltimore Sun and The New York Times on 18 July 2007, corroborated many of the plot elements from this leak, and about one day prior to release, The New York Times confirmed that the main circulating leak was real.

    Price Wars And Other Controversies

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Book 7: J.K. Rowling, Stephen Fry ...

Asda, along with several other UK supermarkets, having already taken pre-orders for the book at a heavily discounted price, sparked a price war two days before the book’s launch by announcing they would sell it for just £5 a copy. Other retail chains then also offered the book at discounted prices. At these prices the book became a loss leader. This caused uproar from traditional UK booksellers who argued they had no hope of competing in those conditions. Independent shops protested loudest, but even Waterstone’s, the UK’s largest dedicated chain bookstore, could not compete with the supermarket price. Some small bookstores hit back by buying their stock from the supermarkets rather than their wholesalers. Asda attempted to counter this by imposing a limit of two copies per customer to prevent bulk purchases. Philip Wicks, a spokesman for the UK Booksellers Association, said, “It is a war we can’t even participate in. We think it’s a crying shame that the supermarkets have decided to treat it as a loss-leader, like a can of baked beans.” Michael Norris, an analyst at Simba Information, said: “You are not only lowering the price of the book. At this point, you are lowering the value of reading.”

    Rowling On Finishing The Book

    Deathly HallowsBalmoral Hotel

Rowling completed the book while staying at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh in January 2007, leaving a signed statement on a marble bust of Hermes in her room that reads “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 January 2007”. In a statement on her website, she said, “I’ve never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric.” She compared her mixed feelings to those expressed by Charles Dickens in the preface of the 1850 edition of David Copperfield, “a two-years’ imaginative task”. “To which,” she added, “I can only sigh, try seventeen years, Charles”. She ended her message by saying “Deathly Hallows is my favourite, and that is the most wonderful way to finish the series”.
