Who Is Cho Chang In Harry Potter

Don't Miss

The Reason For Their Break

How Dudley Dursley MARRIED Cho Chang – Harry Potter Theory

Again, if youve only watched the films then youre misunderstood as to why Harry and Cho broke up. The real reason behind the end of their coupling was Chos sneak friend Marietta, who betrayed the Dumbledores Army to the Ministry of Magic.

Cho was Mariettas best friend and still stood by her sneak friend despite her actions, which angered Harry so much he admonished Cho for it. Not wanting to hear any of it, Cho attacked Hermiones relationship with Harry, thus causing a permanent rift between Cho and Harry.

Magical Abilities And Skills

She’s a fourth year, and she’s good….
Cho’s talent at flying
  • Flying: Cho flew excellently, so much so that she was chosen to play the position of Seeker on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. However, Cho’s flying skills suffered intensely due to her grief over Cedric’s death, to the extent where she was actually afraid she would lose her position on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team.
  • Charms: Cho appeared to be proficient in charm-work, given how in 1996 she learned how to successfully conjure a fully corporeal Patronus in her sixth year, which is a very advanced piece of magic and a sign of superior magical ability and talent. Her Patronus took the form of a swan.
  • Defence Against the Dark Arts: Considering she trained with the D.A., Cho would have been capable in defensive and offensive magic. However, her track-record with defensive learning spells was uneven, as she struggled to learn the Disarming Charm effectively. She seemed to have improved her abilities based on her fighting in the Battle of Hogwarts against the Death Eaters in 1998, and surviving both the battle and the Second Wizarding War .

He Passed His Feelings From Cho To Ginny

Partly why Ginny felt threatened by Cho would be because everything Harry felt for her, he had already felt with Cho. If you go back and read the books, youll notice that every sensation of attraction Harry had for Ginny was the same he described having for Cho in the previous books.

Harrys main indication of attraction was a swooping feeling in the stomach, the very same feeling he has for Cho in Prisoner of Azkaban. You might say Ginny was something of a second choice after Harrys relationship with Cho didnt work out.

News Of Katie Leungs Cho Chang Casting Leaked

Leung was only 16 when she landed the role of Cho Chang in Harry Potter.

I was so innocent and naive, she told Herald Scotland. I think that allowed me to enjoy the moment of being a teenager, part of this massive franchise and not really having a worry in the world. If I was given the chance to go back and relive it, I would probably try to absorb everything around me a bit more.

Before she was announced to play the part of Harrys love interest, someone leaked the news.

It had got to the papers and then someone secretly took a photo of me, Leung said on an episode of the Chinese Chippy Girl podcast. I just broke down. I just started crying.

Soon after, Leung started receiving hateful comments.

I was like, Googling myself at one point and I was on this website, which was kind of dedicated to the Harry Potter fandom, and I remember reading all the comments. It was a lot of racist s, she said.

And then somebody had actually created a website, a hate site it was like, if you disagree with this casting, then click on this button and then it would just be like a count of how many people disagreed with the casting and you would just see a number, Leung continued. I know, its awful. Its so awful.

Cho Was Better: Undying Loyalty

Cho Chang

Being part of Dumbledores Army is not just a fluke for Cho Chang. She joined the coalition, despite opposition by her parents since her mother worked for the Ministry on Umbridges side. Cho also saw this as a way to avenge the death of Cedric.

That fighting spirit, trust, and loyalty are essential for a relationship to flourish, whether on good times or bad times. And Cho best exhibited this, as much as she tried conjuring defensive and offensive spells inside the Room of Requirement. Nevertheless, her fighting determination counts.

Cho Defended Her Friend Who Sold Out Dumbledore’s Army

Though Cho’s loyalty to her friend Marietta Edgecombe is admirable, it’s also hard to understand for many fans. After all, in the Harry Potter books, most of the members of Dumbledore’s Army know what they’re signing up for. They know the dangers and the risks associated with joining such a group. So why was Marietta not with the program? And why did Cho defend her?

Sure, Marietta’s punishment was perhaps a bit too cruel, but she should have been punished in some way. Maybe having the word “sneak” on your face is a bit much, but she did sneak around and tell on Cho and Harry and all of the rest of the members of Dumbledore’s Army. Cho should have been more angry with her friend, instead of just defending her. Whatever the reasons for defending her friend, this definitely ended Cho and Harry’s relationship.

Harry Potter Actor Kate Leung Added That She Found An Entire Website Spewing Hate For Her She Talked To Her Publicists About It Who Asked Her To Stay Silent

Katie Leung, who played the role of Cho Chang in the Harry Potter movies, has said that she faced racist attacks after she was cast in the franchise. She also revealed that she was asked by her publicists to deny what she experienced.

Leung said while speaking on the Chinese Chippy Girl podcast, I was, like, googling myself at one point, and I was on this website, which was kind of dedicated to the kind of Harry Potter fandom. I remember reading all the comments. And yeah, it was a lot of racist s***.

Leungs character was introduced in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth film of the series. She was a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and belonged to the Ravenclaw house. Robert Pattinsons character Cedric Diggory was her boyfriend before he was killed by Voldemort.

She Was Targeted By Racist Trolls

While working on the Harry Potter movies, Leung famously shared an on-screen kiss with Daniel Radcliffe‘s Harry Potter in the series’ fifth installment, 2007’s The Order of the Phoenix. Needless to say, she was the envy of fangirls and fanboys everywhere. However, her casting and the publicity surrounding that infamous smooch made Leung the target of online abuse and racist comments via so-called “I Hate Katie” fansites. “I was quite impressed by how well I coped with it,” Leung told The Telegraph in 2016. “I think it was all to do with being in denial. I tried to shut it out of my mind.” However, more than a decade later, Leung still gets attacked by online trolls for being the beloved boy wizard’s first love interest.

Luckily, the majority of Potterheads actually adore Leung, her portrayal of Cho, and her undeniable chemistry with Radcliffe. As she told Herald Scotland, “It has been incredible because the fans I got to know and love from the beginning have been with me throughout my career.” The actress added, “They come to see my plays and contact me through social media. …They have been so supportive and I’m grateful for that.”

All The Patronuses Of The Harry Potter Characters

ALL CHO CHANG MOMENTS FROM THE HARRY POTTER SERIES ð?ð?

Harry Potter fans know that a patronus is a spell associated with the character’s happiest memory. We’ve compiled every patronus in the series.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban introduced the idea of the Patronus charm in Harry Potter canon. Since then, Patronuses have become one of the most iconic elements of the entire franchise. The spell itself, Expecto Patronum, is the only tool to combat the soul-sucking beings known as Dementors. These charms, if powerful enough, come in the form of an animal associated with the user’s happiest memory.

Which Made Any Dates Very Awkward

Teenage relationships tend to be awkward. Yet Cho and Harry are on another level. They have absolutely nothing to talk about besides Quidditch, making their level of awkwardness very high. Poor Cho and poor Harry deserve better. They both deserve someone they can each really talk to. Someone who will bring out both of their true selves. Someone who will love them both for who they are. Cho and Harry are far too awkward even for an immature teenage relationship. Cho needs someone who can make her smile and laugh. And so does Harry. The two of them together just winded up being depressing.

She Perfected Her Art At Drama School

Leung’s success on the stage inspired her to enroll in a three-year course at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to hone her acting skills and overcome her insecurities. She says that decision made a huge “difference” in her abilities. Acting “requires craft, you can’t learn without training,” she told the Daily Record in 2014. “…I’m now about to graduate and I am indebted to the drama school I wouldn’t have done all the things I’ve done if I hadn’t come to them.”

Prior to graduating in 2015, Leung continued to work in the theatre, appearing in The World of Extreme Happiness at the National Theatre and You For Me For You at the Royal Court. “Perseverance is important,” she told The Herald. “Rejection is the biggest thing I’ve had to overcome, but that happens to all actors. It doesn’t get easier but you learn to appreciate all the rejections and the jobs when they come. I’m learning to embrace everything that comes my way.”

The Relationship Didn’t Fully Fit Cho’s Character Either

Cho is in Ravenclaw, the house known for its wisdom. So surely Cho would be wise enough, even as a teenager, to know when she wasn’t ready for a relationship. She should have waited, taken her time to grieve Cedric before jumping into a relationship with anyone, especially Harry. If she really liked Harry as much as she thought she did, she would have taken time to get into a relationship with him. She would have given herself time to truly get over Cedric. Instead, she jumps into a relationship with Harry and it ends up being almost traumatic for both parties.

She Went On A Date With Harry To A Tea Shop

Cho Chang

In the movies, many of the scenes between Harry and Cho are cut out. In the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book, Harry and Cho actually go on an official date together. The date happens in Hogsmeade at Madam Puddifoots Tea Shop. The date is, unfortunately, a bit of a disaster. Cho gets jealous of Hermione when Harry says he has to leave to go meet her, and Cho is also still emotional over losing Cedric. Overall, the two don’t hit it off well, and their relationship didn’t progress further than that.

Important Things About Cho Chang The Harry Potter Movies Leave Out

The Harry Potter series has a ton of side characters, and here are 10 things which the movies leave out about Harry’s crush Cho Chang.

Harry Potter is full of many side characters who dont get all that much time in the book or on-screen. Cho Chang is one of the students that Harry went to school with who he interacted with a fair amount during his time at Hogwarts. While she wasnt a main character in the books or the movies, she did get a little more focus and information given about her in the books. For movie fans, they might not even know some of the more interesting things about her. Here are ten important things about Cho Chang that the Harry Potter movies leave out.

They Couldnt Have A Laugh With Each Other

Laughter is the key to every relationship, and yet Harry and Cho didnt just have zero chemistry, they also seemed to be unhappy, insecure or awkward in each others presence almost all of the time. The only time they seemed to be able to chat away was when they were talking about Quidditch, but knowledge about a broomstick sport does not a romantic relationship make! Even their first kiss was pretty much a traumatic experience for Harry.

‘Well? Ron said finally, looking up at Harry. How was it?Harry considered it for a moment.Wet, he said truthfully.Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Perhaps in a parallel wizarding world, one where Harry gathered the courage to ask Cho to the Yule Ball before Cedric got in there first, this relationship would have been entirely different. Harry would have taken Cho to the ball, theyd have started dating, and the most pressing issue in their relationship would have been having to compete in Quidditch against each other. Instead, circumstances meant that Harry and Chos relationship never quite took off, which is a shame. But if Harry and Cho had made it work, then we wouldve been deprived of Harry and Ginny so maybe things do happen for a reason.

Harry Is Not That Sensitive And Understanding Of Her Feelings

Harry tried his best but he was not a good boyfriend to Cho. The two of them were just not a good match. Harry should have been more sensitive and understanding of her feelings. Sure, they might have been overwhelming for Harry, but he still should have tried harder. He should have understood her grieving and helped her through it. Instead, he probably made it somewhat worse. Poor Cho. She just wanted some help dealing with her overwhelming feelings. And Harry should have given that to her. Cho needs someone who can help her through her feelings and can distract her when she needs it. She’s somewhat similar to Harry in that way. Perhaps that’s another reason they didn’t work.

Harrys Wanted To Win The Triwizard Tournament To Impress Her

Overrated But Hated Characters : Cho Chang From Harry Potter

Another thing that film fans might not know is that Harry did envision winning the TriWizard tournament before his name was called out. In the first night back at Hogwarts for his fourth year, Harry had a dream where he imagined winning the cup and seeing Chos face the clearest in a crowd of admirers.

When he realized he very well could win the tournament, Harry again saw the picture of Cho in front of him as he held the trophy aloft. To be honest, theres no better motivation for a guy than impressing the girl hes into. No wonder Harry won the whole thing.

Harry Wasn’t Very Considerate Of Cho’s Feelings

Yes, he was a teenager. But he’s still Harry Potter. He’s the hero of the whole story and he should’ve known better. He should’ve been kinder to Cho and understood her feelings. Especially since he was dealing with some similar ones himself. He should have helped Cho get through her grief, not made it worse. Of course it does make sense in a way that Harry didn’t want to talk about Cedric. It’s a difficult topic. Yet Harry still should have found some way of offering Cho some closure.

Cho Defended Marietta Edgecombe Destroyer Of Awesome Clubs

Dumbledores Army was Harrys safe space during a terrible year of Voldemort visions, the reign of Professor Umbridge, and being vilified by the media, so the fact that Chos friend destroyed that by betraying them to Umbridge was a terrible move made even worse by Chos attempts to defend her and reproach Hermione for cursing her with SNEAK-patterned pimples.

Even if you are Chos number one fan, this one is hard to get past. Sure, she gets points for loyalty to her friend, but what about loyalty to defending Hogwarts? Also, the fact Harry, constantly angry in his fifth year, couldnt see Chos point of view, made for an almighty clash that pretty much obliterated the entire relationship.

Oh, no, said Cho hurriedly. No, it was only… well, I just wanted to say… Harry, I never dreamed Marietta would tell…Yeah, well, said Harry moodily. He did feel Cho might have chosen her friends a bit more carefully it was small consolation that the last he had heard, Marietta was still up in the hospital wing and Madam Pomfrey had not been able to make the slightest improvement to her pimples. She’s a lovely person really, said Cho. She just made a mistake Harry looked at her incredulously.A lovely person who made a mistake? She sold us all out, including you!Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Was In Major Awkward Teenager Mode

Like any first date, we can all get a bit tongue-tied, and Harry was no different. Although he clearly wanted to connect with his Ravenclaw crush, the Boy Who Lived was also the Boy Who Failed At Keeping Conversation Flowing, mostly because he couldnt think of anything to talk to her about apart from Quidditch.

For heavens sake Harry, you went to the same school! You had almost every single part of your daily routine in common! You were both MAGIC. Surely that would have been a good starting point, right? But alas, Harry was simply too young and too speechless. Weve all been there, right?
