Ollivanders Was A Staple Location

Ollivanders had two locations: one in Hogsmeade and another in Diagon Alley. While the latter was the most popular, the store in Hogsmeade still did good business and helped witches and wizards find their perfect wands. Moreover, since every Hogwarts student had to visit an Ollivanders location before their first school year, it was one of the most important shops.

Unfortunately, the store closed following Voldemort’s rise, as he kidnapped and tortured Ollivander for information about the Elder Wand. However, it reopened after the Second Wizarding War and helped wizards in need.

Hogwarts Express Hogsmeade Station

Hogsmeades third attraction is also a means of transportation between the Wizarding World lands. Hogwarts Express is a faithful recreation of the majestic train system that transports Harry and his friends to and from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry each school year. This highly enjoyable and relatively relaxing ride utilizes moving window projection screens and special lighting effects to create enchanted landscapes and recognizable characters. As the British countryside changes to lands off-limits to muggles through the windows, Harry, Ron and Hermione encounter friends, and foes on the other side of the frosted glass cabin doors. The effects are fun and impressive and the air-conditioned train cars make this a nice break from the heat while traveling to Diagon Alley. It should be noted that guests may only take advantage of Hogwarts Express if they have Universalâs âPark to Parkâ ticket. Eligible for Universal Express Pass.

Other Things To Do In Hogsmeade

Tri-wizard Spirit Rally and the Frog Choir: These 10-minute shows are performed outside on a stage between the village and castle.

Nighttime Lights: If hours permit, we highly recommend visiting Universal Studios Orlando Harry Potter Hogsmeade at night to see all the lights. Depending on the season, Hogwarts Castle can be lit up with incredible projection light images that may highlight the different houses of the school or the season of the year.

Where Is Hogsmeade Located In Universal

When visiting Universal Orlando Resort, there are two different theme parks that guests can visit. Both parks have a Wizarding World of Harry Potter land, but only one has Hogsmeade village at Universal Orlando. You can find Hogsmeade Village in Islands of Adventure park between The Lost Continent and Jurassic Park.

How To Do Harry Potter World In One Day

Given that weve had the pleasure of visiting Universal Studios and as a result The Wizarding World of Harry Potter a number of times we feel as though weve got the itinerary down when it comes to experiencing everything both Diagon Alley and Hogsmede have to offer in just one day.

As such weve gone ahead and put together an itinerary for our one day at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter below.

Flight Of The Hippogriff Family Coaster

Although deemed a kiddie coaster, this outdoor roller coaster will be enjoyed by adults as well. Riding this coaster will bring you into the Forbidden Forest and give you a great view of Hagrids hut as well as Hogwarts Castle. With a height requirement of just 36 inches, its a great way to introduce the kids to roller coasters. It provides all the energy without any of the scary stuff. Every now and then, we like to provide Wizarding World of Harry Potter tips, and our tip on this ride is to ride it at night and see all the beautiful sparkling lights of Hogsmeade as you ride.

Breaking: Entire Area Of The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter Hogsmeade Temporarily Closed At Universals Islands Of Adventure

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hogsmeade is closed this morning at Universals Islands of Adventure. The land and all three of its rides have yet to open today.

A sign at the entrance to Islands of Adventure informs guests that Hagrids Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure will be open later today.

Some Team Members from Hogsmeade are out in the Lost Continent, advising guests of the closure and directing traffic.

Team Members out front are advising guests to visit Universal Studios Florida for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley. No official reason for the closure has been given, but some Team Members are reporting they are being sent home due to a power outage.

Guests were able to board the Hogwarts Express at Hogsmeade Station for a one-way trip to Universal Studios Florida. However, the train has now ceased operations from either station.

Power outages are not uncommon, but the early release of scheduled Team Members may indicate that this will not be resolved quickly.

Ever heard frogs singing? Well, naturally Hogsmeade has a choir of frogs! They are a student-led group at Hogwarts and go by the name Hogwarts Frog Choir.

Dont forget to watch out for the Triwizard Spirit Rally. Each of the three elite schools Beauxbatons, Dumstrang and Hogwarts showcase their support for their champions through dance!

St Mungo’s Hospital For Magical Maladies And Injuries

St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is a hospital within the Harry Potter universe. Medics at the hospital are not called doctors, but are known as Healers and wear lime-green robes. Founded by famous wizard Healer Mungo Bonham, St Mungo’s is located in London. It was established to treat magical maladies, injuries or illnesses endemic to the Wizarding World. To enter the premises, one has to step through the window of what appears to be a derelict department store called Purge & Dowse Ltd. The exteriors of the hospital are red-bricked and dirty, which is the complete opposite of the interiors. Inside, everything is very neat and looks exactly as a hospital should. There are six floors. The emblem of St Mungo’s is a magic wand crossed with a bone. This is the hospital where Arthur Weasley is sent after he was attacked by Voldemort’s snake, Nagini, in the Ministry of Magic and Minerva McGonagall is hospitalised from severe stunning when Hagrid is forced out of Hogwarts. During one visit, Harry and company happen across Neville Longbottom, who has come with his grandmother to visit his parents in the long-term care ward. They also find former professor Gilderoy Lockhart there, still suffering from the effects of a backfired Memory Charm.

Its the one-and-only, all-wizarding village of Hogsmeade, and youll only find it at Universals Islands of Adventure! The main attraction here is Hogwarts castle, which comes to majestic life on select evenings for The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle spectacular.

Get A Park To Park Ticket

As mentioned above, to get the full experience of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you have to get the Park to Park add on for your ticket. Without it you are unable to ride the Hogwarts Express, so even if you are planning on spending a day in each park you still wont be able to hit everything. You will undoubtedly feel the draw of Platform 9 and 3/4 when you are there, so why not plan ahead and get the park to park ticket ahead of time.

Which Park Is Better: Diagon Alley Or Hogsmeade

If youre looking for Harry Potter rides, the Hogsmeade area in Islands of Adventure has three of them compared to just one ride at the Diagon Alley area in Universal Studios Florida . On the other hand, Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida has more shops and restaurants.

In the end, though, theyre both great and it probably comes down to personal preference. Do you have a favorite scene or location from the Harry Potter books? If so, you may find yourself drawn to one area more than another, but you should absolutely experience both parts of the Harry Potter theme park in Orlando.

Theres only one restaurant in Hogsmeade, but there are two Butterbeer carts and a pub, so you wont go thirsty.

Three Broomsticks

The rustic charm of Three Broomsticks lends itself to hearty fare like beef pasties and rotisserie chicken, or go for the full Harry Potter world experience by ordering The Great Feasta family-style meal with all the fixins.

Hogs Head

Located in the back of Three Broomsticks, Hogs Head serves Butterbeer, Pumpkin Juice, and alcoholic drinks, including the Hogs Head Brew thats only available in Hogsmeade at Universals Islands of Adventure.

Butterbeer Carts

There are two Butterbeer carts in Hogsmeade where you can get frozen or cold Butterbeer, water, and other Wizarding World beverages.

Whats The Difference Between The Wizarding Worlds In Orlando And Hollywood

While just as magical, Universal Studios Hollywoods version of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter only features the Hogsmeade area and is significantly smaller than the Harry Potter world in Orlando. Theres still plenty of shopping, you can dine at Three Broomsticks, get a drink at Hogs Head, and ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Flight of the Hippogriff at the Hollywood park, though.

Shopping In Hogsmeade Orlando

One of our favorite things to do in Hogsmeade is shop! This little village has some incredible shops and store fronts that transport you right into Harry Potter World Hogsmeade. The only difficulty you may have is trying to determine which are real shops and which are simply store fronts to give the feel of being in Hogsmeade. There are plenty of store fronts that we wish were really stores we could explore but there are four actual stores you can explore and shop in that you wont want to miss.

But First A Little Refresher On How Diagon Alley Differs From Hogsmeade From The Books:

Both are wizarding settlements, both have shops selling magical goodies and both have insanely fun rides you could try out.

The difference between them, however, begins in the movies. Diagon Alley is basically a shopping mall/alley.

There are restaurants selling robes, books, ingredients to make potions, magical instruments, pets and of course, wands. There are bars and restaurants dotted around the shopping area, selling all kinds of liquor and food.

Diagon Alley basically is everything a wizard could want and anything a Muggle could dream of.

Oh, and it has a bank to help you easily acquire more Galleons to spend!

Harry first went to Diagon Alley to pick up supplies for his first year at Hogwarts. Ever since it has been the site of many adventures for him and his friends.

Hogsmeade on the other hand is a village.

In fact, it is the only all-wizard village in Britain! Along with the iconic quaint Old English houses, it contains all the usual British village must-haves coffee shops, cobbled streets, a good bar and a shady bar, the occasional snowfall and even a creepy haunted house!

Harrys first visit to the village was the highlight of the Prisoner of Azkaban. I mean, Malfoys face when he got a face full of snow? It was priceless.

Hogsmeade has seen the emotional side of Harry Potter his first date, first DA meeting, last time talking to Dumbledoreokay, Im going to leave it at that or Ill tear up.

The Time Of Year Youre Visiting

Depending on the time of year youre visiting the crowd levels inside the park may vary.

The best time to visit Universal Studios Orlando for lower crowd levels is between January and May and September .

Alternatively, if you cant afford to be flexible as to the time of year in which you visit the park then try to avoid Fridays through to Sundays and instead visit between Monday and Thursday.

While smaller crowd levels often mean youll spend less time waiting for the parks most popular rides, weve still gone during peak-crowd levels and had a fantastic time!

Where To Buy The Must

You already know theres plenty of places to purchase wands, robes, sweets, and souvenirs in the Wizarding World, but if you want to be extra prepared you can purchase many of these items on Universals website before you even arrive at the Harry Potter theme parks.

You can also get them in your hotel, at the large souvenir stores at the entrance to both Universals Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, or at the Universal Studios Store at CityWalk. The biggest benefit to buying your merch outside of the park areas is that youll have more time to experience the rides and appreciate the attention to detail that went into making the areas feel like Harry Potters world. Window shopping and browsing is more fun than standing in line, anyway.

Take Advantage Of Early Park Admission

Guests who book a vacation package, stay at one of the Universal Resort on-site hotels, or have a Preferred or Premier Annual Pass have the opportunity to enter one of the parks an hour before scheduled park opening with Early Park Admission. During this time, you will be able to enter Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley and ride all of the rides except the Hogwarts Express. This time is incredibly valuable to maximize your time in the parks and experience The Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions with shorter waits.

Madam Malkin’s Robes For All Occasions

Madam Malkin’s is a clothing shop next to Flourish & Blotts. It sells robes and other clothing, including the standard Hogwarts-required plain black work robes, and dress robes. Inside the shop, Madam Malkin and her assistants will tailor the robes to fit. Malkin is an archaic term for a crotchety old woman.

Harry has two meetings with Draco Malfoy in Madam Malkin’s shop. This is where Harry meets the first wizard of his own age, Malfoy, for the first time, in Philosopher’s Stone. Harry is rather bewildered by the questions Malfoy asks, because Harry is still unfamiliar with many aspects of the wizarding world. A second meeting occurs just before the beginning of Harry’s sixth year, in Half-Blood Prince. This meeting is far more unpleasant, and escalates quickly into a near-duel before Malfoy and his mother leave in disgust.

Sit A Spell At The Three Broomstickss Back Patio

In times past, the back patio hidden behind The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hogsmeades restaurant was something of a secret, a secluded and relatively quiet place where you could contentedly eat your food or just enjoy the sweeping view from across Islands of Adventures lagoon.

Today, this little slice of tranquility has been a bit subsumed by the sheer commotion that has been steadily descending upon the theme park. During the day, a number of riders waiting for their virtual-line return time for Hagrids Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure tend to park it in this little area, while at night, some viewers use it to watch the Hogwarts Castle projection-mapping show . And then theres Jurassic World VelociCoaster, the mammoth roller coaster whose track nearly butts right up against the spots railing, requiring the installation of some greenery to try and mask its presence .

Still, even with the comparative congestion, the back patio of Three Broomsticks is a not-to-be-missed oasis, a great little spot to collect your breath, enjoy your Butterbeer , and soak up a little peace in the busy Wizarding World.
