What Year Was Voldemort Born

Fantastic Beasts Will Likely End With Voldemort

The Story of Lord Voldemort Tom Riddle Origins Explained (Chronologic Timeline)

1945 was a historical year for the wizarding world. Not only did Dumbledore defeat Grindelwald in one of the greatest duels known to wizard-kind, but at the same time, Tom Riddle was sitting his N.E.W.T. exams. He would graduate the same year, and his immediate destination, an Albanian forest, would become the birthplace of his very first horcrux.

The first Fantastic Beasts movie kicks off in 1926, the year Voldemort was born, and with Rowling recently confirming that the five-part series will span 19 years, the end just so happens to coincide with Voldemorts graduation and subsequent rise to power.

Rowling has also stated that Dumbledore will make an appearance of his own, while his relationship with Grindelwald will also be explored. Though the lead-up to their epic encounter will most likely take center stage as the Fantastic Beasts sequels develop, its all but confirmed that Voldemort will play something of a role come the end of the series.

He Plays A Major Role In The Cursed Child

Those who are still waiting to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child should look away now, as Voldemorts role in the play-turned-transcript gives away a major turning point in the story. Though many still question the legitimacy of Cursed Child, anything that is signed off by Rowling should probably be taken as Harry Potter canon.

That means that Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange did indeed have a daughter shortly before their deaths, and Delphini, raised without parents just like her father before her, resurfaces years later to torment Harry and Albus Potter. When Bellatrixs husband Rodolphus escapes from Azkaban to tell Delphini of her heritage, she poses as Amos Diggorys niece, and convinces Albus and Scorpius Malfoy to travel back to 1981 and keep Voldemort from attacking the Potters.

Like her parents, Delphini is skilled in the Dark Arts, and is the last remaining Parselmouth after Harry loses the ability. She is eventually overpowered by Harry and Albus combined, and is sent to Azkaban for her crimes.

Is Voldemort Older Than Snape

Another character whose age people have trouble pinpointing is professor Severus Snape. Although he is not as old as Lord Voldemort people still struggle with determining his age in comparison to other characters.

Luckily, the books offer plenty of information about Snapes age which makes it easy for us to determine how old he actually is. Snape was a part of the same generation most of the main characters parents are.

Snape attended Hogwarts with Harrys parents and the Marauders. He started his first year at Hogwarts in 1971, which means he was born in 1960.

Lord Voldemort was born in 1926, which makes him 34 years older than Severus Snape.

Even though a great period of time separates the two, they are closely connected. After all, Snape became a Death Eater right after finishing his education at Hogwarts.

Due to how powerful Snape was and the extreme loyalty he displayed over time, he quickly became one of Lord Voldemorts most trusted helpers.

He remained in this position until Lord Voldemort learned about the prophecy of a child that will cause his downfall. Although he was the one who informed Voldemort about the prophecy, he turned to Albus Dumbledore to ask for protection for the Potters once he learned of Voldemorts plan to kill them.

Fathering An Illegitimate Daughter

Warning: this one contains spoilers from the recently published play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Voldemort, unknown to anyone in the main series, fathered a daughter with his loyal follower Bellatrix Lestrange sometime before the seventh book. Delphi appears for the first time in the play pretending to be an associate of Cedric Diggory’s father Amos she eventually becomes a major character within the plot, interacting with the sons of both Harry and Draco.

Fathering an illegitimate daughter seems to have been Voldemort’s final act to impact the wizarding world. Hoping to preserve the Slytherin bloodline, which he was the last of, Voldemort seems to have taken advantage of Bellatrix’s near-insanity and devotion to him to father a pureblood heir. This loveless union never made any attempt to raise Delphi, tossing her off on a loyal follower to raise in exchange for a sack of gold. Truly despicable.

He Used His Powers On Other Children In The Orphanage

Only 28% Of Potterheads Can Pass This Lord Voldemort ...

Like Harry, Voldemort didnt grow up with his parents around him. Instead, he grew up in an orphanage, and as he got more comfortable with his magical powers, he would use them on the other orphans. On one occasion, he literally silenced two other orphans after luring them into a cave and showing them something unspeakably scary with his powers.

Opening The Chamber Of Secrets

Talk about dangerous. For anyone as terrified of snakes as I am, this one’s particularly despicable. During Harry’s second year at Hogwarts, Ginny Weasley mysteriously obtains a diary that, unknown to her at the time, is later revealed to be a former possession of a young Tom Riddle from his childhood days at the school and one of his horcruxes to boot. The diary had been designed by a young Tom Riddle to open the Chamber of Secrets, a hidden vault within the castle of Hogwarts in which a gigantic serpent patrols the underground pipes.

The opening of the chamber the first time, during Voldemort’s younger days, results in the death of Moaning Myrtle and the framing of Rubeus Hagrid, who is expelled from Hogwarts. The second time around nearly results in the deaths of multiple children, including Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny its opening unleashes a terror upon the school that few could have seen coming. Muggle-born students continually come under attack, and Hogwarts nearly closes. Only some last-second heroics by Harry and the sudden appearance of the sword of Godric Gryffindor cause the school to remain safe and open.

The New Year Is On The Horizon For Us Muggles But What Was New Year And Resolutions Like Fro Harry Potter And The Rest Of The Wizarding World

New Years Eve and Day feature in the Wizarding World. This is not necessarily always a positive time though, as Lord Voldemort himself was born on New Years Eve and was most certainly not a reforming character!

Nonetheless, one would wonder what New Years Resolutions Wizards could have? In our world, people might make resolutions about travelling more, or doing more hobbies. In the Wizard world, resolutions could be to jinx less Muggles, or get better at potions, or something. There also might be a group resolution such as to win the House Cup. Especially by Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw students who seem to be shut out somewhat in the bitter Gryffindor-Slytherin struggle.

Yet, there was a third character Dumbledore who changed significantly within each year. Whereas in the early books and films he is welcoming and protective, during the mid-series particularly in the 4th and 5th books and films, he deliberately makes a resolution to be somewhat distant from Harry, Ron and Hermione. This is because of Dumbledores desire to protect Harry by keeping certain things from him. However, he wisely reverses this strategy in the 6th year ensuring that Harry is fully versed in all he needs to know before Dumbledore meets his own date with destiny in the Astronomy Tower on the 30th June 1997.

How It Should Have Ended

Voldemort appeared in the episode “How Harry Potter Should Have Ended”, where he is defeated by Snape when he ambushes him with a gunshot from “Muggle weapons”. Afterwards, he would become a recurring character for the “Villain Pub” segments, usually joined by Loki Laufeyson, the Joker, and Emperor Palpatine. He is often the most emotionally vulnerable of the quartet, although his misgivings are not often misplaced.

He is voiced by Daniel Baxter.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Harry Potter: Hidden Details About Voldemort’s Origins Revealed | OSSA Movies

Voldemort does not appear in the third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, either in person or as a magical manifestation. He is, however, heard when Harry passes out from the harsh effects of a Dementor. Towards the end of the story, Sybill Trelawney, the Divination professor, makes a rare genuine prophecy: “The Dark Lord lies alone and friendless, abandoned by his followers. His servant has been chained these twelve years. Tonight, before midnight, the servant will break free and set out to rejoin his master. The Dark Lord will rise again with his servant’s aid, greater and more terrible than ever before. Tonight… before midnight… the servant… will set out… to rejoin… his master…” Though it is initially implied that the prophecy refers to Sirius Black, the book’s ostensible antagonist, the servant is eventually revealed to be Peter Pettigrew, who, for the 12 years since Voldemort’s fall, has been disguised as Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers.

You Know Who Also Showed A Lot Of Dedication

In addition to natural magical talent, Voldemort has an incredible amount of dedication. If Tom Riddle set his mind to something, by Merlin’s beard, he’s going to do it. He wanted to become a powerful dark wizard and that’s exactly what he did. When Tom found out he was a descendent of Salazar Slytherin, he looked to take up his legacy as such, he set the basilisk on killing muggle-born students so as to rid the school of those he felt unworthy of studying magic. In fact, he only closed the chamber because he realized that if the school closed, he’d have to return to the orphanage, so he framed Rubeus Hagrid and his pet acromantula, Aragog.

Perhaps Voldemort’s most dedicated pursuit was his quest for immortality he’d become a powerful wizard but now he needed a way to live forever. His discovery of horcruxes led him to the knowledge that he could split his soul and attach pieces of it in objects as a way of living on. He was so dedicated to immortality that he committed multiple murders in order to split his soul into seven pieces, as seven was a powerful magical number he unintentionally made a seventh horcrux in the scar on Harry Potter’s forehead, resulting in eight pieces. Creating the horcruxes and experimenting with dark magic took its toll on his body and resulted in his twisted physical appearance, but Voldemort was unbothered by the deformity.

Did Draco Malfoy Have A Sister

Draco Malfoy does not have a sister. We meet the Malfoys on multiple occasions throughout the series but it was never stated or implied that he ever had a sister. For one, if Draco did have a sister she would have attended Hogwarts at some point, a few years back or a few years after Draco starts school.

His Jinx On The Dada Teaching Post Came From Spinal Tap

While the magic behind the Dark Mark is at least explicable, no one knows quite how Voldemort managed to jinx the Defence Against the Dark Arts job at Hogwarts. As suggested by Dumbledore, Voldemort did indeed jinx the teaching post when he was rejected for the position, but neither the books nor the author who wrote them has offered any explanation as to how.

We may not know the incantation , but we know something about where the idea came from. Older members of the audience will remember the Spinal Tap drummer, joked Rowling, referring to the semi-fictional band whose drummers had a tendency to die in varying ridiculous ways, I thought that every year well have a different teacher.

Incidentally, Professor Quirrell, who is described as having been at Hogwarts before the events of the books, was the Muggle Studies teacher in previous years, before stepping up to DADA for Harrys first year at school.

The Death Eaters Were Almost Called The Knights Of Walpurgis

Voldemort

During his school years, Tom Riddle formed a group of friends he was able to manipulate to do his bidding. Many of these friends went on to become his loyal band of Death Eaters during the First Wizarding War and beyond.

In an interview with the BBC, Rowling revealed that she had originally planned to call the group the “Knights of Walpurgis.” After all these years, she’s even kept a scrap of paper referencing that name in case she ever decides to use it.

Magical Abilities And Skills

Voldemort demonstrates his power in the Ministry of Magic

Lord Voldemort was the most powerful, skilled and dangerous dark wizard of all time. He was amongst the greatest wizards to have ever lived, often considered to be the second most powerful wizard in history, his only superior being Albus Dumbledore. Voldemort was extremely talented even while still a student of Hogwarts, with Albus Dumbledore himself saying Voldemort was the most brilliant student to have ever attended Hogwarts. As an adult, Voldemort became a tremendously powerful and accomplished wizard of nearly unrivalled skill, admired and feared by even the most powerful wizards and witches. Combined with his utter megalomania, Voldemort was regarded as the most powerful and most dangerous Dark Wizard of all time, being the only dark wizard to surpass Gellert Grindelwald.

The Battle Of Hogwarts

Upon learning that Harry and his friends were destroying his Horcruxes, Voldemort gathered an army of Death Eaters to attack Hogwarts. Prior to the battle, Voldemort gives the students and teachers of Hogwarts the chance to give Harry up, but they refuse. When the deadline passes, Voldemort unleashes his army of Death Eaters on the school.

During the battle, Voldemort murdered Severus Snape, believing that it would give him a stronger connection to the Elder Wand. Before his death, Snape passed his memories to Harry, who then discovered that Dumbledore was actually dying and that his was planned by him and Snape, who was reluctant to do so. Harry also discovers that he contained the seventh Horcrux and had to sacrifice his life for Voldemort to be stopped. He surrenders himself to Voldemort, who hits him with the Killing Curse. However, this fails to kill Harry and only destroys the Horcrux. Instead, he was sent to a limbo of Kings Cross Station, where he witnessed the remains of Voldemort’s soul, and made the choice to return to the battle to finish Voldemort off once and for all.

After his death, Voldemort’s soul, damaged by the Horcruxes, was unable to pass on into the afterlife or return as a ghost, and is cursed to remain in limbo for all of eternity.

First Rise Of The Dark Lord: 1970s

Many of the witches and wizards who joined him came for a share of the power he offered, but increasingly many joined his following out of fear of reprisal. The years of Voldemorts ascent to power were marked with disappearances, and increasingly open violence.

Each Death Eater bore a sign, the Dark Mark, a skull with a serpent protruding from its mouth like a tongue, burned into his or her left inner forearm by the Dark Lord when they had killed, Death Eaters would send the same sign into the air, comprised of emerald stars blazing in a haze of greenish smoke, causing terror when it was seen.

Voldemorts first reign of terror lasted eleven years. During this time, Voldemort and his minions attacked anyone who resisted or who defended the rights of Muggles and Muggle-born wizards, and marked the gruesome scenes of torture and murder with the Dark Mark lest anyone else think to stand in their way. Whole families were wiped out and many others went into hiding.

Overwhelmed by reports of deaths, disappearances, and torture in an atmosphere of terror, Bartemius Crouch, then Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, authorized Aurors to use the Unforgivable Curses against suspects, empowered them to kill rather than capture, and some suspects were handed to the dementors without trial. Still, the Ministry could not cope with the situation, so Albus Dumbledore began organizing the resistance, creating the group that became known as The Order of the Phoenix .

The Servant Of The Dark Lord Returns

By 1994, Voldemort had developed new plans to fully regenerate his body. He had also acquired two followers: Peter Pettigrew and the snake Nagini . With Pettigrews help he made a temporary potion with unicorn blood and Naginis venom to achieve a rudimentary body . However, full regeneration required a potion made from bone from his father , flesh from a servant , and blood from an enemy . Though he could have used the blood of any foe, Voldemort wanted Harry Potter, who had stripped him of power thirteen years before and he believed the lingering protection his mother once gave him would reside in my veins too.
