Principal Exceptions To Gamp’s Law Of Elemental Transfiguration

Voldemort & Harry Are RELATED? – Harry Potter Explained

The Principal Exceptions to Gamp’s Law of Elemental Transfiguration is a magical theory mentioned by Hermione and later repeated by Ron in the final book. She explains that food is one of these: witches or wizards can cook and prepare food using magic, and even multiply it, but not create it out of nothing. There are numerous examples in the series of food appearing to have been conjured from nothing, such as the sudden materialisation of ingredients in the pots of Molly Weasley’s kitchen and when Professor McGonagall creates a self-refilling plate of sandwiches for Harry and Ron in Chamber of Secrets. In all cases, these events can be reasonably explained as food either being multiplied or transported from elsewhere. One example of the latter is banqueting at Hogwartsâthe food is prepared by elves in the kitchens and laid onto four replica tables, directly below the actual house tables in the Great Hall. The food is then magically transported to the tables.

This is the only exception mentioned explicitly in the series. However, Rowling herself has stated once in an interview that money is something wizards cannot simply materialise out of thin air, or the economic system of the wizarding world would then be gravely flawed and disrupted. While the Philosopher’s Stone does permit alchemy, this is portrayed as an extremely rare, even unique, object, whose owner does not exploit its powers.

Voldemort Never Learns Why His Parents Separated

Meropes relationship with Tom Riddle Senior might genuinely be one of the most morbid plots JK Rowling during the course of the series. Completely enamored with Riddle, Merope gave him a love potion and essentially kept him emotionally hostage for years, locking Riddle into a marriage he never wanted to be a part of.

Its an incredibly dark thread that shows just how doomed Voldemort was from the start. What makes it all the crueler is the fact that Voldemort never learned the truth behind their relationship. Its very unlikely said revelation would change his perspective on the world around him, but it might have elucidated him to different viewpoints.

How Harry Potter And Lord Voldemort Are Secretly Related The Hollywood Inquirer

Harry Potter and his nemesis Lord Voldemort AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle are two halves of the same coin, with their lives mirroring each other but also diverging when it comes to the choices they made. But their connection also runs a lot deeper than most may realise, thanks to revelations J.K. Rowling has made after the completion of the books/movie series. Did you know that the enemies are actually distantly related?

The shared family in their history is the Peverells. The name should be familiar to Potterheads as the three Peverell brothers are the protagonists of The Tale of the Three Brothers,;as told in;The Deathly Hallows .;When the trio encountered Death, they each requested an item: Antioch, the eldest, got the Elder Wand, Cadmus Peverell had the Resurrection Stone and Ignotus, the youngest, the Invisibility Cloak.

Harry is obviously a descendant of Ignotus, with his cloak passing through the generations his granddaughter Iolanthe married Hardwin Potter, hence how it came into the Potter family. As for Voldemort, his mother Merope was of the House of Gaunt, descended from both Cadmus and Salazar Slytherin. So the pairs ancestors were brothers, making them very distant cousins.

This has to be amongst the most fascinating additional details Rowling has unveiled about the;Harry Potter;world in recent years as it enriches the central hero/villain dynamic of the saga and strengthens the feeling that everything in this universe is connected.

Voldemort Would Have Liked Delphini Nonetheless

Even if Delphinis presence in the series is totally nonsensical, Voldemort probably would have liked her if he got the chance to know her. Taking strongly after both her mother and her father, Delphini is a ruthless little monster who wants nothing more than to keep Voldemorts will alive. Shes basically the perfect Death Eater, embodying all their worst traits, but with enough intelligence to actively manipulate her enemies. In a respect, shes one of the most dangerous antagonists in the entire series. Her father would be proud.

The books reveal that an Inferius is a corpse that’s been reanimated by dark magic.

Fans may recall the scene in “Half-Blood Prince” when a swarm of Inferi surrounds Dumbledore and Harry in the cave as they try to retrieve the locket Horcrux.;

What they may not know is that Voldemort by murdering vulnerable Muggles and reanimating their corpses.;

Harry Riddle And Tom Potter

Harry Riddle and Tom PotterThe Hero, the Nemesis and the Connection Between Them

Some would say that Harry Potter is a Bildungsroman story, about the growth of the protagonist from childhood to adulthood. Others argue that it is a fantasy story containing a quest, magical powers and an Other World. Many include Harry Potter in the boarding school genre of stories with lessons, school houses, rule-breaking and friendships all playing an important part in the stories. The Harry Potter books encompass all of these things, but at the very core of the story is the connection, the struggle and the looming battle between Tom Riddle and Harry Potter.

While representing the two polarities of good and evil, the two characters share many similar experiences and have many things in common from the circumstances of their childhoods, their school years at Hogwarts, their relationships with peers and friends, and their personality traits. It goes without saying that there are also many differences which set them apart but take away the roughly fifty years that separate them in age, and you will see that J.K. Rowling has given us a hero and a villain who are remarkably similar. The similarities and differences between them mean that one is almost a mirror image of the other. They share enough things in common to appear to be the same person, and yet the differences between them show us that they have chosen different paths in life.

He Was A Man Of Many Names

Speaking of names even if it is one that’s not supposed to be spoken Voldemort is a man of many. Fans of the series should be acquainted with most of them, but there are some that;many will have never encountered.;Most will tell you that Voldemort’s real name is Tom Marvolo Riddle, but that’s not entirely true. At least not for some of;those who only read the books, that is.

In order to fit in with the fantastic “I am Lord Voldemort” reveal in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Voldemort’s name was changed in many foreign language versions of the book. In French, for example, he is known as;Tom Elvis Jedusor while in Dutch language versions of the book he’s called Marten Asmodom Vilijn . Pretty much every foreign language version;makes changes in this regard with some being drastically different from the original.

Delphinis Existence Makes Little Sense

That said, it really is hard to reconcile the fact that Delphini exists. At no point in the series did Voldemort suggest he was interesting in love, romance, or forging a sensual connection with someone else. For Delphini to exist, we need to accept the fact that Voldemort was not primarily interested in extending his own life.

In having a daughter, Voldemorts motivations becomes cloudy. What he wanted was literal, eternal life- not life through a child. Voldemort was the most important person in his own life and him having a daughter betrays that theme immensely. Its hard to care about a new character when they make your main villains motivations incomprehensible.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

How Harry Potter is related to Voldemort

Voldemort does not appear in the third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, either in person or as a magical manifestation. He is, however, heard when Harry passes out from the harsh effects of a Dementor. Towards the end of the story, Sybill Trelawney, the Divination professor, makes a rare genuine prophecy: “The Dark Lord lies alone and friendless, abandoned by his followers. His servant has been chained these twelve years. Tonight, before midnight, the servant will break free and set out to rejoin his master. The Dark Lord will rise again with his servant’s aid, greater and more terrible than ever before. Tonight… before midnight… the servant… will set out… to rejoin… his master…” Though it is initially implied that the prophecy refers to Sirius Black, the book’s ostensible antagonist, the servant is eventually revealed to be Peter Pettigrew, who, for the 12 years since Voldemort’s fall, has been disguised as Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers.

Harry Potter And Lord Voldemort Are Distant Cousins

The link between Harry and Voldemort goes all the way back to The Tale of the Three Brothers and the Deathly Hallows. Antioch Peverell, the oldest brother, was said to have crafted and possessed the Elder Wand, which was passed down through combat. Cadmus Peverell, the second brother, was in possession of the Resurrection Stone , which passed down through his descendants until it came into the Gaunt family, who placed it within their signet ring. Ignotus Peverell was the youngest, and the one who had the Cloak of Invisibility. It initially passed down through his male descendants, but when his granddaughter Iolanthe Peverell married Hardwin Potter, the Cloak made it to the Potter family, and was eventually given to James Potter.

Now, thats the link Harry has with the Peverells, but how does that connect to Voldemort? Well, the House of Gaunt are descendants of both the Peverell and Slytherin family, specifically of Cadmus Peverell and Salazar Slytherin. Marvolo Gaunt was the father of Merope Gaunt and Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemorts grandfather, which is why Voldemort acquired the ring/resurrection stone and turned it into a horcrux. This means that Harry Potter and Voldemort are distant cousins due to their links to the Peverell brothers.

They’re Both Descended From The Peverell Family

And then it came to Harry in one shining piece, the memory that had stirred at the sound of the name “Peverell”: a filthy old man brandishing an ugly ring in the face of a Ministry official, and he cried aloud, “Marvolo Gaunt!””Sorry?” said Ron and Hermione together.” You-Know-Who’s grandfather! In the Pensieve! With Dumbledore! Marvolo Gaunt said he was descended from the Peverells!”Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, chapter 22

This is referring to the scene in chapter 10 of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where Harry and Dumbledore take a stroll down Memory Lane in the Pensieve and observe this scene with Voldemort’s grandfather.

His voice shook and he could feel the color in his face, but he did not care.”My mum told Sirius that Dumbledore borrowed the cloak! This is why! He wanted to examine it, because he thought it was the third Hallow! Ignotus Peverell is buried in Godric’s Hollow….” Harry was walking blindly around the tent, feeling as though great new vistas of truth were opening all around him. “He’s my ancestor! I’m descended from the third brother! It all makes sense!”Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, chapter 22

This means that they’re both descended from the Peverell brothers, making them distantly related.

The relevant statement is in a moderated Q&A session with J. K. Rowling from 2007 shortly after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Harry Potter And Voldemort Were Connected In A Way You Never Thought About

Harry Potter fans are no strangers to phoenixes, the type of bird we know Dumbledore’s beloved Fawkes to be. But the symbolism behind the phoenix, particularly as it relates to Voldemort and Harry Potter’s wands and their connection to one another, will completely shock you.

Ever heard the phrase “rise like a phoenix”? It’s a useful metaphor for describing someone who comes back from a difficulty stronger than before, much like the phoenix in Greek mythology who lived for centuries, consumed itself in fire as it weakened, then was reborn from the ashes.

RelatedThis Theory About Neville Longbottom’s Wand Explains Everything About Him

And as we know, Fawkes himself rises from the ashes and is reborn in the Harry Potter series. Fawkes also gave just two of his valuable feathers to be used as the core of a wizard’s wand. One feather went into what would eventually become Harry Potter’s holly wand. The other, as renowned wandmaker Ollivander revealed early on, went into Tom Riddle’s yew wand, making the two wands “brothers.” Curious, as Ollivander would say. This common core is also why the unique “Priori Incantatem” spell occurs when the wands connect during Harry and Voldemort’s duel in Goblet of Fire.

However, the intricate connections don’t stop there, as a Reddit user recently pointed out. Not only do Harry and Voldemort share wand cores, but they also share something much more significant:

His Greatest Fear Was His Own Death

5 Astonishing Similarities Between Harry Potter And ...

Boggarts are magical shape-shifters that transform into whatever a witch or wizard fears the most.

In a 2005 interview with the fan site Mugglenet, Rowling said that Voldemort’s greatest fear is “ignominious death,” and if he ever encountered a boggart, he would probably see his own lifeless body.

Even without this insight, it is clear that Voldemort does everything in his power including fragmenting his soul seven times throughout the series to live up to his name and beat death.;

What Are Lord Voldemorts Seven Horcruxes

In the Dark Arts Wizarding book, Magick Moste Evile, the Horcrux is mentioned briefly. The entry reads, Of the Horcrux, wickedest of magical inventions, we shall not speak nor give direction. However, Harry, Hermione, and Ron soon discover that the Horcruxes have allowed Lord Voldemort to become immortal. A Horcrux is formed when a Dark witch or wizard hides a piece of their soul in an object.

However, a Horcrux can only be formed after that wizard or witch has committed the evilest act, murder. Lord Voldemort was no stranger to murder and as a result, he was able to form seven Horcruxes that he hid around the Wizarding World, they included:

That said, when compared with some of the other major story beats in the play, it doesn’t actually sound too far-fetched.;Given all that he went through to conquer death though, it’s perhaps a little ironic that something so simple could help the Dark Lord to live on even after his downfall.

Voldemorts Mother Represents A Villain’s Spin On The Theme Of Love

On that note, its not by accident in a series the frequently utilizes love as both a concept and a theme that Voldemorts mother abuses love for her own selfish needs. In this sense, Merope becomes Lilys antithesis. Where Lily selflessly used love to save her sons life, Merope selfishly used love to steal away her sons fathers life, inadvertently destroying Voldemorts life in the process. Its only fitting that on a thematic level Voldemort represents a complete rejection of the idea of love.

How Harry Potter And Draco Malfoy Are Related

Many families in the Wizarding World are related either by blood or marriage, as is the case of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy. Here’s how.

In the Wizarding World, almost every family is related to each other somehow and Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy are a good example of that. Although these two were enemies during their time at Hogwarts, they actually had a few things in common, including some relatives. In 1997, J.K. Rowling introduced readers to the Wizarding World in the novel Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, the first in a series of seven books that told the story of the boy who lived and the darkest wizard of all, Lord Voldemort.

Although Voldemort was the main villain, Harry had to deal with many other not-so-friendly characters, most notably the Malfoys. Harry and Draco were the same age, and started their Hogwarts course the same year. Their rivalry was settled from the beginning, when Draco insulted Ron and his family and thus Harry refused to shake his hand. Harry and Draco were never friends, but by the end of the book series, they made peace and were more civil towards each other. Still, these two had a lot in common, such as their connections with Voldemort and their family background, and not just because they came from families with big reputations in the Wizarding World.
