Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
    • In the film, Harry, shortly after Riddle rearranged his name to unveil his true identity as Lord Voldemort, explicitly states the latter’s the Heir of Slytherin. Harry does not do so in the book, though it was nonetheless made very clear what Riddle/Voldemort’s connection to the Heir of Slytherin was.
    • In the film, the Basilisk is seen chasing Harry all around the Chamber of Secrets whereas in the book, Harry’s fight against the Basilisk occurs quickly and neatly. In the book, Harry never climbs up the statue nor does he go into the statue.
    • In addition, Tom Riddle’s reaction throughout the fight in the film was significantly calmer compared to the book. In the film, outside of yelling “No!” in shock and stating that the Basilisk can still use its other senses , he does not react in any way to the Basilisk missing Harry. In the book, Tom Riddle is repeatedly yelling at the Basilisk to smell Harry when it is repeatedly missing Harry in their fight.
    • The film also has Riddle claiming that Harry Potter’s parseltongue abilities are of no use against the Basilisk, as it was specifically trained to only obey him, something that was not in the book .
  • In the book, after Fawkes had punctured the Basilisk’s eyes, Riddle stated that it can still smell Harry. In the film, Riddle stated that it can hear him.
  • In the book, pillars hold up the ceiling of the Chamber of Secrets. In the film, there is nothing to hold the ceiling up .

Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire : Voldemort’s Return

The Goblet Of Fire is one of the most action-packed Potter films, and while The Prisoner Of Azkaban was a colossal turning point for the franchise, the fourth installment brought about a huge turning point for the characters and Wizarding World itself. The movie is exciting, and while fans may have wanted more out of certain aspects, there is a lot to love.

If there is one aspect that can be attributed to the argument that this is the very best the eight films have to offer, it is the aforementioned turning point: Lord Voldemort’s return. The entire graveyard scene is eerie and wonderfully sickening with the death of Cedric, the look of Ralph Fiennes’ Voldemort, and the collection of Death Eaters. It is an incredible watch, and the images of Harry’s parents, as well as the commotion and emotion that ensue upon Harry’s return to Hogwarts, is the cherry on the cake.

With Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone set to launch in China today, theres a pretty decent chance that the first chapter in Warner Bros. generational mega-hit franchise will earn just enough to push it past the $1 billion mark in unadjusted global earnings. The Kid Who Would Be King

Another fantasy pulled straight from Arthurian legend, The Kid Who Would Be Kingbrings the classic struggle between the fabled wizard Merlin and witch Morgana to the silver screen. However, the story is set in modern times, and the role of Arthur is played by a 12-year-old boy Alex who accidentally finds the mythical sword Excalibur. Merlin de-ages himself to enlist Alexs help to fight off Morgana, who he fears might one day rise from her grave to imprison and rule all of England. Throughout his journey, Alex tries to do the right thing while also discovering mysteries about his past. Alex defeats Morgana and her forces at the end of the movie with help of all of his classmates, much like Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2. However, what makes the movie special is the fact, unlike Harry Potter, Alex is not destined for greatness, he earns it by merit, the only way one can own Excalibur.

The tale of the Triwizard Tournament remains a firm fan favourite, although to be completely honest, Ive never quite understood why. Dont get me wrong, the central concept of Europes top wizarding schools duking it out in a magic-fueled Olympics is absolutely brilliant, and theres plenty of fun to be had with the set pieces crafted around the individual challenges. What I find a bit frustrating here is the tone, which just feels a bit Off. In the first three Harry Potter flicks, magic is presented as something thats fun and awe-inspiringa gift that wizards and witches are lucky to possess. In The Goblet of Fire, it seems more like a curse that weighs heavily on everyones shoulders particularly Ron and Hermione, who are in a completely miserable mood throughout. Granted, theyve got plenty of reason to be, given their treatment by Tournament officials: At one point, theyre actually kidnapped and chained underwater as props in a Tournament contest. Poor Cedric Diggory fares even worse, of course, murdered so that Voldemort can finally be reborn. Its a fairly radical shift in tone to a darker, more cynical Hogwarts than weve seen before, and , the transition is a bit of a bumpy ride.

    • In the novel, Snape appears in the Shrieking Shack after pulling off the Invisibility Cloak, but in the film, as the trio didn’t bring the cloak with them, Snape appears visible and is seen when he disarms Sirius.
    • Also, in the film, Snape disarms Sirius with Lupin’s wand since Lupin passed it to him when Sirius was so wanting to kill Pettigrew. In the novel, Lupin never gave his wand to Sirius, so Snape never disarms the latter.

If you thought The Order of the Phoenix was a dark ride, buckle your seatbelts. In setting the table for the series finale, The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 puts Harry, Ron and Hermione through the wringer. As they embark on a quest to hunt horcruxes, our heroes find themselves isolated from friends and family, andfor a great deal of the films second acteven pitted against each other. Apart from a fun opening sequence in which the Order assembles an army of Harry decoys thanks to a big batch of polyjuice potion, its grim and gritty, with nary a glimpse of Hogwarts and its cozy trappings. Thats not to say its badly done, by any meansits just a dramatic contrast from the more playful tone of the first four films, effectively raising the stakes, and hinting at the horrors in store should our heroes fail.

All the struggles we see the trio go through make you root for them more than ever as they gear up for their final showdown against Lord Voldemort.
