In the era of the Salem Witch Trials, many cats were mentioned as familials of the tried witches.
Familials are animals that serve a purpose to a witch or wizard, either as messengers or companions or even servants.
In a written piece inside Pottermore, the famous Harry Potter website about all things Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling published a piece about Familials.
In the Harry Potter books and movies, there arent really any familials, all the animals taken to the castle by the students are essentially pets.
The only one that fits the bill somewhat is Mrs. Norris.
Ironically enough, Mrs. Norriss owner Mr. Filch doesnt even have magic.
Some fans do argue that the owls are familials since they deliver and receive the magic mail.
Other cats in the Harry Potter universe are the animagus of Mrs. McGonagall, a grey cat which she can turn into, and Hermiones half cat, half kneazle Crookshanks.
All played by cats trained by Birds and Animals Unlimited, the trainers of the Maine Coon that played Mrs. Norris.

Due to the extraordinary intelligence of Mrs. Norris , many fans speculated that the cat is actually part Kneazle. In Rowlings world, Kneazles are cat-like creatures that are described as highly intelligent, capable of detecting suspicious people, and with an excellent sense of direction. They can also be highly aggressive and independent in short, Mrs. Norris fits the description perfectly.
However, Rowling has confirmed that Mrs. Norris is an ordinary cat, albeit a particularly smart and unpleasant one. Hermiones cat, Crookshanks, is a cat-kneazle cross, however. This explains Crookshanks immediate dislike of Rons rat, Scabbers . Rowling also told fans that if it came down to a battle between Crookshanks and Mrs. Norris, it would be Crookshankss Kneazle heritage that would win him the day .

He’s Terrible Because He’s Bitter Not Evil
Although Filch is a generally pretty nasty human being, its not necessarily down to an innate character flaw, but the result of his history. Had Filch been born a wizard, he would probably have become a very different, potentially quite successful, member of the wizarding community. As a squib, however, Filch is shunned from childhood. Raised by magical parents, he would have grown up aware of all the wonderful magic in the world, but been unable to use it. As a squib child, he couldnt attend Hogwarts with his peers in the magical community, and was undoubtedly bullied over his status . Unlike fellow Squib Arabella Figg, who seems relatively content with her life, Filch is miserable and bitter, suggesting that he had a very tough time growing up without magic. He is still attempting to learn, as well, which shows a certain degree of self-loathing and an unwillingness to accept his lot in life.
In short, Filch is a cautionary tale for the wizarding world. He is a character who is so twisted and embittered by his treatment by the rest of the community that he takes delight in physically punishing those children who were born magical. He’s a bitter old man, for sure, but he’s also not an evil one.

Who Did David Bradley Play In Harry Potter
David played Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movies. Argus is a Squib and the caretaker of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
He is often spotted with his faithful cat Mrs Norris lurking the corridors of Hogwarts.
In an interview with Vulture, David said he regularly gets stopped and asked to do Filch impressions or for autographs.
He explained: When somebodys face lights up as theyre walking towards me, Im trying to guess, What is it they watch? Its a little game, and I always get it wrong.
With Harry Potter, you get parents who say, Can I get your autograph? Its not for me, you understand. Its for my son, or for my daughter. They wont admit to the fact that they watch it. And for many years, it was only Potter fans who would stop me on the street.
He continued: Or they want me to say one of my lines for their ring tone on their phone, one of my most horrible Filch lines from Harry Potter in my harshest Cockney voice, so I usually oblige.
