Why This Is The Best Harry Potter Movie

The Seven Potters scene was all kinds of complicated. Daniel Radcliffe had the responsibility of playing Ron, Hermione, Fred, George, Fleur, and Mundungus, all of which looked just like Harry. Radcliffe had to work hard to get each character right, except for Hermione. He got Emma Watson’s mannerisms down right away.

The 25 Best Movies Like Harry Potter Youve Probably Never ...

The Harry Potter box office chart on the next page was culled from figures found at Box Office Mojo. Ive also used BOMs inflation-ratio chart to calculate domestic 2011 grosses for the previous six Harry Potter movies. The United States Department of Labors Bureau of Labor Statistics was used to update US dollar figures of international grosses.

The most notable things about the inflation-adjusted Harry Potter box office chart are:

Note: Inflation-adjusted figures are approximations so one can have an idea about the number of tickets each Harry Potter movie sold. Thats the true parameter of a movies box office success.

Regarding the international box office, its also worth noting that a decade ago neither China nor Russia were the box office behemoths they have become since. And of course, inflationary pressures vary from country to country.

And finally, bear in mind that currency fluctuations can have a major impact on international figures once they are converted to US dollars. Apart from a bump during the height of the global economic crisis of late 2008-early 2009, the dollar was considerably stronger ten years ago than it is now in other words, foreign revenues for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone would be impacted negatively when converted to US dollars when compared to those for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug

The Desolation Of Smaug sees Bilbo and the rest of our heroes continue their journey as they head East towards Lonely Mountain encountering various dangers which all lead towards a confrontation with Smaug.

From 578,827 reviews, Desolation of Smaug earned 7.8/10. Despite this good score, the film had some mixed critical reviews but was still relatively positive with the creation of Smaug praised and overall most claimed it to be an improvement over the first installment.

Dolores Umbridge Has No Redeeming Qualities

Without any shadow of a doubt, the worst teacher to ever grace the halls of Hogwarts is Professor Umbridge. She doesnt teach the students anything valuable, she hands out brutal punishments for no good reason, she hates Harry, and she does it all with a smile. Wed rather see Voldemort teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts.

NOW WERE COOKING. The finale of the epic saga ties the eight films up with a beautiful, tear-soaked bow.

Plus it gets big points for all the dramatic moments when the Order of the Phoenix shows up to fight, when McGonagall says I always wanted to use that spell!, Fred, Snape, and Lupins deaths, Neville defeating Nagini I could go on, but Im already crying.

7 Most Favorite Characters in Harry Potter Movies

Like the Chamber of Secrets, this film will always hold a special place in my heart as the first time I saw the novels come to life on the big screen.

Sure, the acting may be shoddy at times, but I can overlook it and instead just enjoy the nostalgia of Harry’s first year at Hogwarts as I watch Hedwig fly over the snowy Hogwarts setting and forget about all my troubles.

Also, top marks from the producers for skipping the Deathday Party scenes, great shout.

How The Harry Potter Series Became So Popular

The Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling, is perhaps the most popular set of novels of the modern era. With seven books and many blockbuster films to its name, the series has amassed about 15 billion dollars in sales. How did this phenomenon become what it is? For those scratching their heads, the reason can be broken down into several areas: Rowling garnered a generous initial contract for her book, separate book covers were created for both teens and adults, midnight releases/promotions/pre-orders made the public more fanatic about the series, and fan blogs were rampant. In fact, these are just a few of the main reasons why the Harry Potter took off the way it did.

The first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, was rejected 12 times before it was picked up by Bloomsburya small publisher in England. At the time, Rowling was living on benefits as a single mother, so receiving this contract was her first step to success. However, getting a book contract does not ensure the success of a book. The story was adored by children and adults alike, and this had much to do with the popularity of the initial book and the series as a whole .

Ranking The Best Harry Potter Movies

The law of averages virtually guarantees that every storied film franchise will serve up a dud. Even universally-beloved series like James Bond and Indiana Jones have their crosses to bear certified stinkers that even hardcore fans widely acknowledge as an all-time low. Theres one franchise that bucks this trend, though, consisting of no fewer than eight films, each one garnering an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 77% or higher. This charmed series? Harry Potter, of course.

Although its hard to believe, its been nearly 20 years since Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone made its debut, transforming an already popular series of books into a bona fide cultural phenomenon. From this very first instalment, it was clear the producers had nailed the magic formula, and the film was as much a critical success as it was a commercial one. Whats perhaps most impressive, however, is that this critical success was sustained throughout the subsequent seven pictures, each one Certified Fresh by the aggregate movie review site, Rotten Tomatoes.

Although all Potterheads likely have their own favourite flick in the series , its fascinating to see how those personal preferences stack up against each films Rotten Tomatoes score. So grab your wands, and prepare to discover how the eight iconic films rank in our countdown to the very best Harry Potter movie.

Q: How Do The Fantastic Beasts Films Fit Into The Chronology

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald are prequels to the Harry Potter series. Author J.K Rowlings wrote both the 2-part book series and the movie screenplaysher first venture into screenplay writing. Many fans of the Harry Potter Universe film series suggest watching these two releases before the Harry Potter series despite the fact that the Fantastic Beasts movies were made in 2016 and 2018, after the Harry Potter Movies.

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

All 10

Heres where director David Yates really started to use his deluminator. Just like the books, The Half Blood Prince was when Potter got darker than ever. Muggle murders as Death Eaters swarm the Millennium Bridge in London, a Death Eater attack on the Weasley home, a history of the young Tom Riddle and, yes, the horrific and tragic death of Dumbledore. *sob* How could Rowling do it to us? While Hogwarts is still reasonably safe, the peril that lies outside the gates is palpable.

Theres an enjoyably grown up theme here too. Teen hormones are everywhere – it seems to make sense to get with everyone in sight if youre about to be murdered by dark wizards – and the will they/wont they Harry/Ginny relationship is enjoyably handled amidst the madness. The Half Blood Prince also adds the brilliant Jim Broadbent to the cast as Professor Horace Slughorn, a pompous but good-hearted soul who once gave a young Voldemort some seriously risky information. As Harry and Dumbledore work together to find the various Horcruxes of Voldemorts soul, theres a truly thrilling narrative at work thats deftly handled by Yates. Its dark, its scary, and it knows it.

The Deathly Hallows Part 1

This is the movie that I dont look forward to when it comes to the run. I enjoy it for what it is but its not like the other films. It featured hardly any characters and obviously barely featured Hogwarts. I mean, for the most part, they were just camped out in tents in the middle of nowhere figuring out how to destroy Horcruxes.

Despite the flaws, it still serves a major purpose in setting up the Battle of Hogwarts in Part 2. I understand they wanted to leave the best parts for the second part but I do think it should have featured more of what was happening in Hogwarts under Snape as Headmaster.

Harry Potter Movies In Chronological Order

Here’s how to watch the Harry Potter movies in chronological order not including any movies in the works, like the three more planned Fantastic Beasts prequels. We know that the series will end with a duel between Albus Dumbledore and former BFF-turned-nemesis Gellert Grindelwald in 1945, but everything in between is currently a mystery. Below, we decided to just include everything Harry Potter-related that it’s possible to watch right now including the stage play, The Cursed Child.

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Note that outside the US, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is known as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Aside from the occasional flashback, the Hogwarts-set movies in the series follow a simple linear structure mostly thanks to Rowlings decision to use the British school calendar as a framework for her narrative. That means each of the seven books in the Potter series focus on a different school year , starting in 1991, when Harrys 11 years old.

Q: Why Are There More Harry Potter Movies Than Books

Which Harry Potter Movie Was Most Successful? (Ranked by Box Office Earnings)

The Harry Potter series of books includes 7 titles. In order of their release, they are Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone , Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The reason there are 8 Harry Potter movies in the franchise and only 7 books is due to the fact that the final book in the seriesHarry and his friends year 7 at Hogwartsis split into two movies, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets ~ 77 Million Copies

When discussing the Harry Potter series with most Potterheads the second book in the series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, rarely gets called anyone’s favorite of the seven. Perhaps it’s because it had to live up to it’s “most” popular sibling, or because the story came between two of the more well-reviewed of the Harry Potter movies, but not many fans mark Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as a standout. If you work in publishing though, The Chamber of Secrets is quite a star, and the competition isn’t terribly close. In fact, the second book in the series earns a silver medal where sales are concerned, having sold approximately 77 million copies worldwide.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2

As much pressure as there was on J.K. Rowling to bring Harry Potter’s literary journey to a satisfactory close when Deathly Hallows hit bookshelves, the pressure was even higher for director David Yates to do as much for the billion-dollar cinematic franchise. That pressure was so intense that Warner Bros. decided to split the final film in the series in two with the hopes that David Yates and his team could give the franchise the sendoff it deserved.

Against seemingly impossible odds, Yates managed just that with Deathly Hallows Part 2. In this closing chapter of the final Harry Potter franchise, Yates’ team covers Harry, Hermione, and Ron’s desperate search for Voldemort’s Horcruxes, Snape’s surprising backstory, the epic Battle of Hogwarts, and Harry’s fateful showdown with the last heir of Slytherin.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

All The Harry Potter/Wizarding World Movies (Ranked By ...

In what would mark the final director change for the series, David Yates makes his debut with the politically-tinged Order of the Phoenix. The film also happens to be the only Harry Potter movie not written by Steve Kloves , but the team forged on to craft the most adult entry yet. Yates deftly navigates themes of power and corruption through the wonderfully realized character of Dolores Umbridge, played to perfection by Imelda Staunton, who just might turn in the best performance of the entire franchise. The character is disgusting, disarming, and terrifying all at once, and her impact at Hogwarts spurs Harry and Co. to start taking matters into their own hands.

Its clear from the onset that Order of the Phoenix is going to be a rather different film, as Yates opts to open the movie in the heat of the summer, in a new location, with a layered confrontation between Harry and Dudley. The subsequent introduction of the Order once again serves to prove that Harry is A) Not alone in his quest and B) Severely lacking in information about whats really going on. And the return of Sirius Black bolsters the films emotional impact and deepens Harrys arc, while the film also gives us some of the franchises best Harry-Snape scenes.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire Didn’t Wow Fans As Much As The Other Films

Audience score: 74%

“Goblet of Fire” is the fourth installment in the “Harry Potter” series.

Although some complained that it felt “episodic,” or like a long “teaser” for the fifth film, others thought it did a fine job ushering in the final chapters of the series.

“A very solid movie in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise. While it may not have been as good as the third, this is the first movie where you get the sense that these characters have matured, and are no longer the same as when we first met them,” audience reviewer Aiden S. wrote.
