Why Did They Change Dumbledore

Are Gandalf And Dumbledore Played By The Same Actor

WHY DUMBLEDORE HAD TO DIE

Its one of the premier pop culture debates of our time: Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, or more specifically, Gandalf vs. Dumbledore. The two wizards, portrayed by Ian McKellen and Richard Harris/Michael Gambon, respectively, are iconic characters in two of the biggest franchises of the 21st century.

Why Did Snape Killed Dumbledore Harry Potter And The Half

The 2009 Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince was one of the Harry Potter movie series seasons. Warner Bros distributed the fantasy film directed by David Yates. The movie was released on July the 7th, 2009, in London and grossed over $900 million at the box office in the first year of release. Like other movies in the Harry Potter series, the Half-blood prince was quite intriguing, generating many positive reviews even from movie critics.

So Why Did Snape Killed Dumbledore

Snape killed Dumbledore because he asked him to do so. Dumbledore had a feeling that Voldemort had instructed Malfoy to kill him but wanted to die his way.

Watson Said Kissing Grint Was Among Hardest Things She Had To Do

The Ron and Hermione shippers finally got the kiss they were hoping for in the final book/film. But it was actually a hard scene for Watson and Grint, despite their close relationship off screen.

“I mean obviously us kissing was the most horrifying thing either of us have ever had to go through,” Watson told Grint during the reunion.

“It was just built up for the whole series,” Grint responded.

While it was meant to be “this dramatic make out,” Watson said the two just “kept laughing.”

Finally, to get the take, Watson said she just “went for it.”

“I kind of think I blacked out i just remember your face getting closer to mine,” Grint recalled.

“You make it sound like an actual horror show in your head,” Watson joked back.

“Kissing Rupert is one of the hardest things I ever had to do,” Watson said in an interview during the reunion. “It was “so wrong on every level, because Dan, Rupert and I are so much siblings.”

Well then.

Jennifer Smith As Lavender Brown

Although several of the actors portraying minor and background Hogwarts students came and went throughout the Harry Potter films, the recasting of Lavender Brown proved to be highly controversial. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, it was black actress Jennifer Smith who sported the Gryffindor character’s robes. Shortly after the film’s release, J.K. Rowling debuted her sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which gave the character a much more central role than she had ever had before.

By the time that installment was adapted for the screen, it was a white actress named Jessie Cave who stepped into the part of Ron ‘s would-be love interest, which resulted in manycrying foul over the choice to replace Smith before she could have more meaningful screen time. There was no specific description of the character being white in the books, and even if there was, some people didn’t think it was necessary to replace her, especially since it seemed to imply that the character wouldn’t be lovable unless she was as pale as Ron. For what it’s worth, that wasn’t the last time the Harry Potter franchise would be accused of under-representing people of color.

Richard Harris Aka Og Dumbledore Thought Fawkes Was Depicted By A Real Bird

It

During a portion of the reunion, which featured Daniel Radcliffe and director Chris Columbus , the two recalled filming certain scenes with Harris, aka the OG Dumbledore.

In their conversation, the two shared a laugh while describing filming the scenes that involved Harris and Fawkes, the phoenix that served as Dumbledores animal companion.

In the films, Fawkes is animatronic. But Harris, who was succeeded by Michael Gambon in the films after his death, didn’t know that, according to Columbus and Radcliffe.

“Richard came in and looked at the phoenix, and said ‘wow they train these animals marvelously these days,'” Columbus said.

“We never told him,” Radcliffe said.

“He just thought it was a real bird,” Columbus said.

The Field And Harry Potter

In June 1989, director Jim Sheridan cast Harris in the lead role in The Field, written by the esteemed Irish playwright John B. Keane. The lead role of “Bull” McCabe was to be played by former Abbey Theatre actor Ray McAnally. When McAnally died suddenly on 15 June 1989, Harris was offered the McCabe role. The Field was released in 1990 and earned Harris his second Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He lost to Jeremy Irons for Reversal of Fortune.

In 1992, Harris had a supporting role in the film Patriot Games. He had good roles in Unforgiven , Wrestling Ernest Hemingway and Silent Tongue . He played the title role in Abraham and had the lead in Cry, the Beloved Country .

A lifelong supporter of Jesuit education principles, Harris established a friendship with University of Scranton President Rev. J. A. Panuska and raised funds for a scholarship for Irish students established in honour of his brother and manager, Dermot, who had died the previous year of a heart attack. He chaired acting workshops and cast the university’s production of in November 1987.

Over several years in the late 1980s, Harris worked with Irish author Michael Feeney Callan on his biography, which was published by Sidgwick & Jackson in 1990.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

Rowling used several chapters in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to reveal two major details concerning Dumbledore: his early life and his death. The book introduces his parents, Percival and Kendra Dumbledore, as well as his little sister, Ariana his brother, Aberforth Dumbledore, was mentioned in previous books. At six years old, Ariana was attacked by three Muggle boys who had witnessed her performing magic. Because of this attack, Ariana was seriously traumatised and never able to control her magic again. Enraged, Percival attacked the Muggle boys , and was given a life sentence in Azkaban. After this, Kendra moved her family to the village of Godric’s Hollow. In one of her outbursts, Ariana accidentally killed Kendra at around the time that Albus completed his education. Albus became the head of the family and was forced to remain in his house with his sister while Aberforth completed his education.

Harry Potter

Decades later, in 1945, Dumbledore finally defeated the now-Dark wizard Grindelwald, who had come to possess the Elder Wand. Grindelwald’s defeat made Dumbledore the master of the Elder Wand, which remained his until just before his death, when Draco used the Disarming Charm on him.

Dumbledore had another Hallow in his keeping since the death of James Potter: the Invisibility Cloak, which he had borrowed to examine. When James died, Dumbledore kept the cloak and decided to pass it on to Harry, James’ son.

St Dumbledore Vs 2nd Dumbledore

To me Richard Harris was the much better of the two. He played the character as it was written and was perfect doing so. Gambon had to change it, or so he claimed so he wouldnt be just copying Harris. He portrayed a much more emotional and volatile character, not Dumbledores character at all.

Frequent question, why are there 2 different Dumbledores? There are more than two Dumbledores in the Harry Potter movies as Richard Harris ( The first Dumbledore died after shooting the second film and so Michael Gambon had to replace him. That is why there are 2 Dumbledores. Richard Harris played Dumbledore in the first two movies, but passed away before the third.

Correspondingly, who is a better Dumbledore? Harriss Dumbledore may be more faithful to the books, but he doesnt seem quite as nuanced in the first two films. Gambons Dumbledore is unpredictable, exciting, refreshing. He has a lot more energy than Harriss Dumbledore, which is clear in his movements and his speech.

In this regard, why did people not like Michael Gambon as Dumbledore? Overall, his character just wasnt how Dumbledore was in the books or first two movies, which is why people tend to dislike Gambons Dumbledore. Well, I think most people who have read the books can agree that Dumbledore was always soft-spoken and tried to keep things light, even if he was angry with someone.

Richard Harris To Michael Gambon

Why Did Voldemort Want To Teach Dark Arts At Hogwarts

This particular change applies only to the movie version of Albus Dumbledore. In Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, the character of Dumbledore is played by actor Richard Harris. In every film subsequent to those two, actor Michael Gambon takes on the role. Both actors did the character justice.

And thanks to the power of costuming and make-up, they were both able to sport Dumbledore’s iconic white beard, spectacles, and long-flowing robes.

Harry Potter And The Order Of Phoenix

Snape returned with a more prominent role in the fifth episode of Harry Potter. Voldemort had returned to a mortal body, and Snape had continued working as a double agent for Voldemort.

Snape and Sirius had several altercations in this series, and he even taunts Sirius about his inability to have a role in the orders mission because of his fugitive status. Harry felt Sirius took many risks because of Snapes taunts.

Later in the series, Dumbledore approached Snape to teach Harry the Occlumency, which protects the mind against external influence. Harry also prematurely enters Dumbledores Pensieve, where he saw his father, James, and Sirius bullying Snape and Snape, calling Harrys mother, an offensive name- Mudblood.

Sirius later died in this series, and Harry held Snape partly for it.

Camelot Again And Henry Iv

For a while in the 1980s, Harris went into semi-retirement on Paradise Island, in the Bahamas, where he kicked his drinking habit and embraced a healthier lifestyle. It had a beneficial effect. Harris’s career was revived by his success on stage in Camelot, and powerful in the West End run of Pirandello’sHenry IV.

He was the subject of This Is Your Life in 1990, when he was surprised by Michael Aspel during the curtain call of the Pirandello’s play Henry IV at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London.

His film work during this period included: Triumphs of a Man Called Horse , , Strike Commando 2 , King of the Wind and Mack the Knife plus the TV film version of Maigret, opposite Barbara Shelley. This indicated declining popularity which Harris told his biographer, Michael Feeney Callan, he was “utterly reconciled to”.

Verne Troyer As Griphook

The casting of the Harry Potter films was limited to British thespiansa rule so strict it even forced producers to turn down Robin Williams for the role of Hagridbut Verne Troyer became the rare exception when he was cast as the Gringotts banker Griphook in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Troyer was the only American actor with a major role in the film, but the character was voiced by his English co-star Warwick Davis, who also portrayed Professor Flitwick and another bank teller in the film.

By the time Griphook became more significant to the story in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Davis took over the role completely. Davis later explained his decision to seek out the role. “Griphook has so much more depth to him than I’d ever been able to get into my work as Professor Flitwick. So, I went in and read for David Yates and the casting director, and gave them a best shot, David left a message that I’d got the part.”

He Took The House Cup From Slytherin

It

For the kids of Gryffindor, this was a really nice move. The supposedly evil Slytherin House thought theyd won the house cup and then Dumbledore swoops in there with some house points for Gryffindor and they just overtake Slytherin. The house points were deservedHarry fought off Voldemort, he deserved more than house pointsbut this was an incredibly cruel way to do it. Not all of Slytherin are mean bullies, and there are kids as young as 11 in that house so to casually pull out the rug from under them in front of the whole school was actually kind of petty and horrible.

This is the only time in the books when I actually felt I was on Draco Malfoys side. Dumbledore was definitely biased here, and he could have handled this far more tactfully.

Did Harry Break The Elder Wand In The Book

The scene where Harry walks on the bridge with Hermoine and Ron behind me would always linger, this was where he snapped the elder wand in two and tossed it away. Though Ron was in support of Harry keeping the wand for himself, Hermoine believed it should be destroyed. The wand had enough deaths of great wizards. Besides, only three people know the real story. However, In the book, Harry Potter placed the wand in Professor Dumbledores tomb. He said no one should be allowed to have that kind of power.

So instead of breaking it and tossing it out as he did, he placed it in the tomb. Those aware of the true story and the true owner of the wand are Ron Weasely, Hermoine Granger, and Harry himself. In the movie, Harry snapped the wand in two and threw it away. In the book, Harry placed it in Dumbledores tomb and he covered it up. There have been different opinions about which option he should have gone for.

He Kept The Sorcerers Stone In A School

Speaking of which, why did he decide to keep the stone in the school in the first place? This just seems like a bad place for it. Hogwarts may be the safest place in the Wizarding World, but its also one where the entirety of Britains magical youth resides for most of the year.

At no point did Dumbledore stop and think, Hey, maybe Im endangering them by keeping the thing Voldemort wants most below the lake?

At this point, it really is as if he wants to see how things will unfold if he mixes them up a bit and throws in some drama which is a dangerous attitude to have for anyone, let alone someone with so much power. What was he thinking half the time?

Why Did They Replace Crabbe In Harry Potter

And yet, Crabbe is replaced by Blaise Zabini, another Slytherin student, during this scene in the film. WHY? Warner Bros. Because the actor who played Crabbe, Jamie Waylett, actually landed himself in some serious trouble off screen that cost him his role in the last film in the Harry Potter franchise.

Why Dumbledore Never Became Minister of Magic (Harry Potter Explained)

For someone so clever, why does he seem to be so ignorant to things?

It goes back to Dumbledore seeming to be more curious about how things will play out than actually willing to protect his students. People figure out things before him all the time most notably and embarrassingly, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione discovered the Sorcerers Stone was in danger before he did. They were wrong about who it was in danger from, but they still knew something was up and got to it moments before Dumbledore himself did.

Ron and Hermione were 12 at this point and Harry was 11. Two of them had been part of the magical world for less than a year. And yet, they were all more tuned into things in Hogwarts than its headmaster? Seems suspicious

Are Gandalf The Grey And Gandalf The White The Same

Technically no: while Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White were two different physical forms of Olorin, they were both the same person. I view it as simply changing clothes same way Sauron and Annatar were the same person. If they were two different people, then Olorin technically never came to Middle Earth.

Australia And New Zealand

In many Australian and New Zealand schools, a headmaster/principal is the head administrator of a school who has been appointed to her/his position by the school board, superintendent, or other body. The principal, often in conjunction with the school board, makes the executive decisions that govern the school, as well as having the authority over the employment of teachers. The principal is often the chief disciplinarian of the students.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

In the fifth book, Dumbledore is demoted from Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, voted out of the Chairmanship of the International Confederation of Wizards, and is almost stripped of his Order of Merlin First Class due to his speeches regarding the return of Voldemort, although it is reported that he is unconcerned as long as he is not taken off the Chocolate Frog cards. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Magic does everything they can to discredit him and Harry mainly through the Daily Prophet. At the beginning of the book, Dumbledore enrages Fudge when he stops by at Harry’s hearing with a witness to ensure that he is not expelled. While Harry feels better when Dumbledore assists him, he becomes annoyed to the point of being angry that the headmaster refuses to speak to or even look at him.
