Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone
Professor QuirrellHarry Potter and the Philosophers Stone
Voldemort makes his debut in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. In this story, Rowling introduces him as the Dark Lord who tried to kill Harry Potter because the boy was prophesied to destroy him. Voldemort murdered Harrys parents, James and Lily, but as a result of his mothers love and willingness to sacrifice herself for him, baby Harry survived when Voldemort tried to murder him with a Killing Curse. Voldemort was disembodied, and Harry was left with a mysterious, lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead as a result.
In the book, Voldemort unsuccessfully tries to regain his dissolved body by stealing the titular Philosophers Stone. To achieve his objective, Voldemort uses Professor Quirrells aid by latching onto the back of the latters head. However, at the climax of the book, Harry manages to prevent Voldemort from stealing the stone.

Quidditch Was Based On Basketball
Quidditch, the sport of choice at Hogwarts, resembles flying lacrosse in the Harry Potter films. One might imagine that the British Rowling thought of cricket when creating the game. After all, the Quidditch brooms look a little bit like bats. Actually, her inspiration was the all-American basketball. In her Amazon interview, Rowling explained, I wanted a sport for wizards, and Id always wanted to see a game where there was more than one ball in play at the same time. The idea just amused me. The Muggle sport it most resembles is basketball, which is probably the sport I enjoy watching most.
Thanks to the popularity of the books, Quidditch has become an actual sport, with teams at many universities and its own world cup tournament. Rowling approves since she put a lot of effort into making it a fully realized sport: I had a lot of fun making up the rules and Ive still got the notebook I did it in, complete with diagrams, and all the names for the balls I tried before I settled on Snitch, Bludgers and Quaffle.
Godric Gryffindor Is Definitely Rowlings Favorite Hogwarts Founder
Godric is derivative of the Old English name Godrich, which basically means good person. So no mystery there about which Hogwarts house Rowling sided with the most.
The last three letters of Gryffindordor are French golden, one of the colors of the house. A griffin is a mythological beast thats part lion and part eagle.

Appearances In Other Material
In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it is revealed that Bellatrix gave birth to Voldemorts daughter Delphi in Malfoy Manor before the Battle of Hogwarts. Twenty-two years later, Delphi poses as Cedrics cousin and manipulates Harry and Ginnys second son Albus Severus Potter and his friend, Draco and Astoria Greengrasss son Scorpius Malfoy, into stealing a prototype Time Turner with which she hopes to resurrect her father. Using the Time Turner, Scorpius accidentally creates an alternative timeline where Voldemort killed Harry at the battle and now rules the wizarding world. In an attempt to achieve this future, Delphi travels to Godrics Hollow on the night Voldemort killed Harrys parents, hoping to avert the prophecy that led to her fathers downfall. After receiving a message from his son, Harry, together with Ron, Hermione and Draco transfigures himself into Voldemort so that he can distract Delphi, allowing them to overpower her. The real Voldemort kills Harrys parents as prophesied, and Delphi is sent to Azkaban.

She Wasnt Fond Of Pigwidgeon
Aside from an incredibly brief Easter egg appearance on the shoulder of Ginny Weasley on the Hogwarts Express, we never got to meet Pigwidgeon in the flesh. He was an extremely annoying, tiny owl owned by Ron, and Hedwig was really not his biggest fan. As we knew that Hedwig was a rather proud, snobby animal, he didnt take kindly to the bouncy, zippy actions of the younger, more childish owl he had to frequently associate with.
What Does Hedwig Mean
Hedwig is a German feminine given name, from Old High German Hadwig, Hadewig, Haduwig. It is a Germanic name consisting of the two elements hadu battle, combat and wig fight, duel. Could A Real Owl Really Carry A Nimbus 2000
Snowy Owl often kill snowshoe hares and can carry them to their nestlings. A snowshoe hare weighs over 1 kilogram. I weighed one corn broom as 0.6 kilograms, so the weight of a real broom wouldnt be a problem for a Snowy Owl. And a Snowy Owls talons can easily grip a broom handle. So yes, a real Snowy Owl could really carry a Nimbus 2000. But the Snowy Owl in this scene simply flew through, and then the filmmakers digitally added the broom. This wasnt too hard to do. In the arctic tundra, where there are no trees for Snowy Owls to bonk into in flight, they often dangle their legs in flight. So in this scene, the real owls legs are already in position to be carrying something.
Tiny owls can easily carry mice, so letters and birthday greetings would be quite easy for them to manage. But according to The Pet Place:
Although throughout the movie, it appears the owls carry messages and even thebroom, they didnt actually hold the objects. Instead, they were attached to the birds using an invisible harness. When they reached the right point, a trainer pulled a cord, which released the message or object.
Also, notice that the broom that was delivered in the movie was really made out of paper.

Did Harry Potter Create A Demand For Pet Owls In The Uk
Scientists examine whether Harry Potter books and films drove a dramatic rise in the number of owls entering the pet trade in the UK
Snowy owl .
Are you a fan of the Harry Potter books or films? If so, then you are familiar with Hedwig the inscrutable snowy owl, who was Harrys loyal companion as well as his faithful mail-delivery owl. So influential was Hedwig in the Muggle world that she inspired some wannabe wizards to purchase owls as pets — before discovering that owls, being meat eaters, produce a rather unpleasant smell, and being nocturnal, were not the fun real-life companions that the fictional Hedwig was to Harry. According to a number of news reports, these discoveries set off a wave of abandoned pet owls across the UK. Concerned about the fate of these homeless owls, the author of the books, J.K. Rowling, wrote on her website: if it is true that anybody has been influenced by my books to think that an owl would be happiest shut in a small cage and kept in a house, I would like to take this opportunity to say as forcefully as I can: please dont .
Captive barn owl in flight. This species is the most commonly bred and sold in the UK….
Harry Potter films and books did NOT increase UK trade in owls
None of the popularity indicators strongly predicted public demand for pet owls , even when these data were projected forward by one year to account for delays in response to variations in popularity.
