He Never Goes To Prison For His Crimes
This isn’t all that surprising considering none of the Malfoys have ever had to pay their dues. Audiences see Malfoy 19 years later with his family on the Hogwarts Express, with no indication of why he wasn’t, you know, in prison for being a Death Eater. Although it is apparent that Draco has a change of heart towards the end of the Battle of Hogwarts, there is plenty of witnesses who can attest to the Malfoy family’s allegiance with Voldemort. Well, Lucious Malfoy is able to save his entire family from imprisonment by giving names of other Death Eaters to the Ministry of Magic. So, not only did Malfoy evade Azkaban, but so did his father.
Jk Rowling: Happy 35th Birthday Draco Malfoy
A clever Harry Potter fan realized that Friday is Draco Malfoys, and curious as to how old the character would be, she reached out to the books author on Twitter. J.K. Rowling clarified that Malfoy turns 35 this year, but she wont be celebrating with him .
Im not invited to the party, mainly because I keep telling girls theyre misguided to fancy him, she tweeted Friday.
But why would Rowling steer ladies away from Malfoy? Perhaps she wants to keep them from his bad Slytherin attitude. In a December 2014 Pottermore passage, she warned fans with crushes on the villian that Malfoy is a person of dubious morality.
I have often had cause to remark on how unnerved I have been by the number of girls who fell for this particular fictional character, Rowling wrote. All this has left me in the unenviable position of pouring cold common sense on ardent readers daydreams, as I told them, rather severely, that Draco was not concealing a heart of gold under all that sneering and prejudice and that no, he and Harry were not destined to end up best friends.
Despite that, lets hope Malfoys day is filled with cake, presents, and whatever else Death Eaters do to celebrate birthdays.
Draco Wasnt Always A Malfoy
Like any author, Rowling didnt always settle on the first name she came up with for characters in her series, and Draco is among them. Two of his earlier last names appeared on the Original Forty, a list of all of the classmates in Harrys year at Hogwarts, and although some of them never make an appearance, many of them end up having larger roles throughout the series.
Draco had many surnames before I settled on Malfoy. At various times in the earliest drafts he is Smart, Spinks or Spungen. His Christian name comes from a constellation the dragon and yet his wand core is of unicorn.
This was symbolic. There is, after all and at the risk of re-kindling unhealthy fantasies some unextinguished good at the heart of Draco.
And the name Malfoy itself? Per Pottermore, it translates to bad faith from old French.

Draco Reminds Harry Of Dudley
It is during his initial meeting with Draco inside Madam Malkin’s that Harry sees an immediate familiarity in the young wizard. Having just left the Dursleys with Hagrid, Harry is reminded of another pompous and spoiled boy who holds a sense of prejudice and narcissism. In the book, Harry is “strongly reminded of Dudley after meeting Draco. The two definitely share similarities, and it would be interesting to see how Draco would react if he ever meets Dudley.
Behind The Actor Tom Felton
Here are some additional tidbits about Tom Felton and the casting of the role of Draco.
15) Tom Felton revealed in an interview that he auditioned for the roles of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Felton didnt end up getting either role but producers thought that he would be perfect for the role of Draco. He has also mentioned that he is grateful he didnt get either the roles of Ron or Harry as his life would have been much different.
16) Tom Felton revealed on that he took the Pottermore quiz and he was sorted into Gryffindor house. JK Rowling responded by saying that she could have let him know that years ago but didnt want to kill his motivation.
17) Tom also took the Pottermore quiz to find out his Patronus and ended up getting a ragdoll cat. As mentioned in our quiz, Draco does not know how to cast a Patronus Charm as he never learned it.
18) Felton was banned from tanning for the 10 years of filming the Potter movies. This was because the producers wanted him to keep his pale complexion for the role of Draco.
19) During an interview with Yahoo, Felton revealed that a crazy fan legally changed his name to Lucius Malfoy and wanted to legally adopt him. He kindly declined the offer but it just goes to show you how crazy some Potter fans can be.
20) Felton is one of only 14 actors to appear in every movie in the series.
21) Felton won the MTV Movie Award for Best Villain for Half-Blood Prince and both Deathly Hallows movies.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
After Harry is unexpectedly chosen as a Triwizard Tournament champion in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Draco shows off a “Support Cedric Diggory” badge to Harry, then presses it to replace that phrase with “Potter Stinks.” Draco also gives malicious and often false information about Harry and Hagrid to muckrakingDaily Prophet journalist Rita Skeeter. When Draco attempts to curse Harry behind his back, the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor Alastor Moody humiliates Draco by transforming him into a ferret and repeatedly slamming him against the ground as well as dropping him down Goyle’s pants.
Harry Potter And The Half
Draco is drawn into Death-Eaters’ activities more directly in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Because of Lucius’ arrest and fall from Voldemort’s favour, Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange visit Snape at his home to discuss a dangerous task that Voldemort has assigned Draco. Narcissa, deeply worried that her son will be killed in his attempt to complete it, begs Snape to make an Unbreakable Vow to aid Draco with this task and protect him at all costs, and if Draco fails to complete the mission, he will complete it himself he agrees.
In this book, Draco is, for the first time since being introduced in the series, portrayed as having considerable initiative, ingenuity, and perseverance. However, unlike Harry, who always relies on his friends’ support and help, Draco mostly works alone in the Room of Requirement, refusing to confide in or involve his own circle of friends, whom he treats more as underlings. This, and the realisation of what he is ultimately expected to do, nearly drives him to a nervous breakdown. When Harry walks in on Malfoy crying in Moaning Myrtle‘s bathroom, Draco attempts to cast the Cruciatus Curse. Harry is faster to the draw with an obscure Sectumsempra spell that he learned from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince’s book. The spell cuts deep gashes into Malfoy’s face and chest, resulting in severe blood loss. Snape, alerted by Myrtle’s screams, swiftly arrives and heals Draco’s cuts, then takes him to the hospital wing.

Hes Related To Harry And Ron
When you understand the Malfoy family history, their hatred for the Weasley family becomes very ironic. The way Draco acts, you would think hes part of some master race, but because there are so few pure-blood families in the wizarding world, it eventually became impossible to maintain pure-blood status without marrying between families.
Cedrella Black married Septimus Weasley, bearing 3 children, one of whom is said to be Arthur Weasley, Rons father. Narcissa Malfoy, Dracos mother, was born Narcissa Black. Harrys father James was also born of the Black family.
This means that in some convoluted way, Harry, Draco, and Ron are all related via the Black family.
You will be hard-pressed to find Draco or his family admitting to the connection, seeing as how the Weasleys are not wealthy nor do they have the same agenda.

The Wand Makes The Wizard
J.K. Rowlings work is always rife with symbolism, and wizards and their wands are particularly symbolic in the Harry Potter series. Draco Malfoys wand is made of unicorn hair and hawthorn, and according to Rowling, the unicorn hair points to the fact that Draco, annoying and scheming as he is, does actually have a good side. Wands made from hawthorn, furthermore, often mean that the wizard belonging to the wand has some great inner conflict inside themselves. Hawthorn wands can also be tricky, and are best suited to highly skilled wizards.

The Impact Of The Draco Character
Here are some additional tidbits about the impact of the character.
24) Rowling uses Draco Malfoy as a way to introduce racism into the story. Throughout the series, he calls Hermione a filthy mudblood and looks down on others who arent purebloods like his Family. This is a prime example of how some people in society judge others based on their skin color and social standing. It is actually a pretty clever way from Rowling to introduce themes of racism into the story and teach younger readers that it is a bad thing. In the context of the storyline, Draco is the one who teaches Harry Potter that all Wizards and Witches arent all good.
25) The character inspired the creation of a band called Draco and the Malfoys. The band performs songs from the perspective of Draco.
26) Draco was ranked 8th on IGNs list of the best Harry Potter characters of all time.

Draco Malfoy Actor Tom Felton Made A Documentary About Harry Potter Fans
Feltons proximity to Harry Potter fandom gave him a unique perspective when he set out to make a documentary about Harry Potter fans.
Were not just talking about the fact that he was in the Harry Potter films, although that does help to an extent. His 2015 BBC documentary looks into the lives of the fans who wait in line to meet him and other actors at conventions, and how the books and films have affected them, which opened his eyes to their experiences along the way.
It was a massive insight for me, going behind the ropes and seeing what people actually do to stand behind a railing at an event, Felton told JustJared in 2015. You dont really think about the three hours it took them to stand there and get the best spot.

Who Did Draco Malfoy End Up Marrying
Draco married Astoria Greengrass, and they have a son together named Scorpius Malfoy. In the epilogue scene, Astoria is played by Jade Olivia, who happened to be Tom Feltons real girlfriend at the time. Her character plays a bigger role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I recommend checking that out if you are interested in learning more about her.

He Dressed Up As A Dementor
This scene from the books is moderately mimicked in the Prisoner of Azkaban. During their Care of Magical Creatures class, Malfoy and his cronies poke fun at Harry after hearing about his fainting on the train from the presence of the Dementors. In the movie version, they simply raise their hoods and mock Harry’s sensitivity of the creatures. In the books, however, they take it much further. When Harry is flying hundreds of feet into the air during a Quidditch match, Draco and his friends dress in hooded cloaks under the guise of a Dementor in hopes that it would freak Harry out. Well, it does work, and Harry sends an aggressive, impressive Patronus charm their way, and they are knocked off their feet.
Harry Potter: 10 Facts About Draco Malfoy They Leave Out In The Movies
The Harry Potter movies don’t spend much time developing the character of Malfoy, and here are some facts that the films skip.
Even though Draco Malfoy is definitely not written to be a heart-throb, teenage girls took a liking to Harry Potter’s nemesis thanks to actor Tom Felton. Because of his popularity, the films make Draco seem more charming than malevolent. Regardless, Draco acts as the perfect adversary to Harry, and he creates an entertaining riff between himself and his nemesis. The two also help bring a tangible representation of good versus evil, which is the most prominent symbolism in the Harry Potter story.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Draco becomes the new Seeker for the Slytherin Quidditch team after his father, Lucius Malfoy, donates new, high-quality Nimbus 2001 broomsticks. When Hermione Granger comments that the Gryffindor players made the team through talent and not bribery, Draco responds by calling her a Mudblood. This provokes an immediate, violent response from Ron Weasley. Because of Draco’s contempt for Muggle-borns, Harry, Ron, and Hermione suspect that Draco is the Heir of Slytherin, who has recently reopened the Chamber of Secrets. Harry and Ron disguise themselves as Crabbe and Goyle with Polyjuice Potion and infiltrate the Slytherin common room in an attempt to collect additional information, whereupon they realise that their initial suspicion about Draco is incorrect.
